I tried both versions. This one does not give near the same volume as the Root Pump Plus. I haven't experienced a bit of stiffness with this version, though. I can't wait to use this one up so I can buy more of the Root Pump Plus. The smell of neither is noteworthy but tolerable. These were on sale at Ulta for $10 recently which is a more appropriate price point than the regular price.

At first I didn't like this product at all.. But i figured out that is because I wasn't using it correctly. I would use a rat tail comb, to seperate my hair, spray this into the root, keep doing this in sections then after i was done i'd move all of my hair back into place and sort of rub it into my scalp i suppose you could say then blow dry upside down with a round brush and va va voom lol I love this stuff.

I bought this in a small $3 dollar trial size. So far I'm not impressed.
I don't like the stiffness it gives my hair. I would like volume without hold....if that's even possible. But that is what I would like. Basically I don't want my hair to be crunchy. I guess it did provide some volume. But I was hoping for so much more, it doesn't even have a good scent. If it even has a scent I don't know -- I don't remember, I think it has a strange but light artificial smell to it. Nothing that makes you say "MMm..that smells SOOOO good". It's just nothing special.
I am glad that I got to sample a small size before commiting to the full size can. I'll keep searching. There has to be something better out there.

My hair is long and thick and voluminous at the ends and sides, but it tends to get weighed down and flat on top. I use this product to give me some lift at the crown and then I coat the mid-shaft to ends with moroccan oil to smooth everything out before I blow dry. This combo works great! I think the oil counters the drying effect that others have experienced. I've gotten so many compliments on my hair since I started using root pump. It's also buying me more time between getting my layers trimmed, which is what I usually do when the top gets flat, and my hair stays cleaner-looking longer, which is a huge plus.

I originally got this as a gift and I absolutely adore it. I use it after I shower and while my hair is damp. I spray into the roots and just blow dry away.... then WHOA... I have hair that lifts. It also gives my hair more volume. I love the spray bottle and that its not a mousse where I have to wash my hands after use. The packaging of this product is awesome. It's not cheap but you get a lot and it lasts.

When I first used this I hated it. Then I read The Small Things blog (you'll recognize her hair tutorials from Pinterest) and there was a video showing how she puts on her volumizing mousse and I realized I was doing it completely wrong. Basically you put this on your roots the same way you would if you were coloring your roots - part your hair everywhere and apply product - and then comb it through the length of your hair.
I take about 15 minutes to blow dry my hair (always upside down while sitting on the floor, bent at the waist like i'm touching my toes, reading a magazine) and when I come up for air my hair is HUGE. This has enough holding power to lock in the work of my straightening iron. My roots feel a bit stiff, like starched I guess, but it LOOKS good and really that is what I'm going after. I can get two days of great hair using this product. Highly recommend!!

I dont know what the big hype is about this product, but it doesnt work well for me, and to be honest, ive had better affects with pharmacy products at dirt cheap prices, so this is something that is definitely overrated. I like using volumizing products when I blow dry my hair, and I decided to give this a try. First of all it's not exactly cheap, I think I paid 10$ for it, and it was on sale. I applied it to my hair when I blow dried by rubbing it in my hands first then distributing it in my hair as some othe reviewers suggested, and I just didnt see any effects. Plus, it left a weird sticky feeling, didnt leave my hair soft at all! Please dont waste your money on this!

After reading the reviews I purchased this on amazon for my fine thin straight hair (cut into a short bob). This didn't do much at all. It looked the same as when I blow dried it. Maybe this has something to do with my hair type - might work better with medium-thick hair or different textures.

I'm not a fan of mousse but this does exactly what it says and using it in minimum quantities still provides awesome results. I have thick, coarse hair, and after I apply this directly at the root and start blow drying the hair just starts standing right up. I've seen it work magic on fine, thin hair too. Smells pretty good, the typical Big Sexy fragrance. Since you don't need to use a ton of it, it lasts a really long time.

I really love this product. I think the key with this is that "less is more", though. I've had it almost a year - and there's still a lot left.
I use this on towel-dried hair - one small shot on either side of my part, and then one shot on the crown - I work it in, (make sure there's not a blob of foam in there) and then comb through. I then put my hair in a bun until I'm ready to dry it, within 15 minute or so. This is probably not ideal, but I have two little ones to get ready in the morning, so it's the best I can do! :) I then fully dry my hair, and finish with hairspray -
I have thick, but fine hair - and this gives it crown and root volume without grease and heaviness.
I use this with B&B's Styling Lotion (right out of the shower, combed through), and TIGI's Massive Shine Hairspray (to finish), and my hair looks consistently finished and styled.
Good product - just don't use too much.

It did give me a little volume but just like another member posted - I also can't stand he dirty hair, grimey feeling and how dull it makes my hair. Also I have to wash more often when using this product. Last nite, I only used a tad by my bangs & it was much better. Definately less is more when using this product. Anything more is asking for trouble. Would not repurchase.

I got a couple new volumizing styling products at Ulta over the weekend to help combat my dreadful, limp hair. Root Pump was one of them. I didn't expect much because I have been disappointed time and time again at styling products that claim to do what they never actually wind up doing for my kind of hair (straight, fine, thinning). I used this today and was very impressed. First off, I can't stand volumizing products that leave my hair crunchy to the point where trying to comb through after my hair is dry feels like it's breaking & snapping because it's so tangled. Sexy Hair Concepts Root Pump is great in that it gave my hair excellent (!) volume, as well as NOT making my hair tangly and crunchy. I got great all-over volume and great root volume as well. Whoopee! Spray nozzle lets you direct the foam spray just where you want. I did this, but then also distributed it a bit better with my hands. Unless it quits working, I will definitely buy this again.

I've wanted to try Big Sexy Hair products for a while, and I bought the mousse as a treat for myself in a gift set that also included the Spray & Play hairspray .
I use the mousse on damp hair and then blow dry upside down, it works wonders.
Definitely a product range that I'd recommend.

I love this product. My hair is straight and tends to go flat. This product gives me a boost at the roots without teasing my hair. I am amazed at how much volume this gives my hair. I can't imagine going without it now.

Spray nozzle works really well, but that's about it for the positives for me. I would give it a "0" if I could. Sorry to be the downer here, but I found this to be extremely drying, made my hair look dull and I can't wait to wash my hair and get this out. Going back to Redken!!!!

heck yeah i would buy this again! ok, fine, flat straight asian hair is what i have. i took the advice of the mua'er below and split my hair in the middle and worked in a small amount and then both sides. i sprayed it into my fingers and then massaged it into my roots. i then shot it with the hair dryer and O M G-volume!!! i had big sexy hair oh yes i did! i went to bed and the next morning, i still had sexy hair (it wasnt so big but still had more volume than if i hadnt used it). this stuff is great! not crunchy at all, leaves no residue AND it was still kicking butt the next day until my next evening shower. my visiting cousin mentioned, "hey girl, you are so lucky to have such thick hair" and im like, "sista friend-root boost!!!!" and she ran off to ulta and bought herself one that day! it was 16.99 at ulta but when i got to the counter, surprise! on sale for 7.99 and i was so stoked. this stuff REALLY works. i was using paul mitchell's extra body sculpting foam for years and its good stuff but it always leaves my hair with a filmy dull texture and it definitely doesnt last into the next day. love love love this stuff :)

First time user. Great results. I applied the product to 3 horizontal parts on the crown area.I followed instructions.
The blow dried pulling hair away from scalp. As well as flipped hair down and blow dried.
Wow my results came out good! Next time i will be a little more even with application.
I am a Newbie to styling my hair, and using product other than Bio-Silk.
Expensive, but at TJMaxx $5 bucks!
