Received this in a swap and now I am hooked. When I first sniffed it from the bottle, I was not very impressed-to me it smelled like Almond Extract...too foody. I had a very similar experience to other reviewers once I actually tried it on my skin. It became smoky and warm...and well, snuggly. I get more Amber than Almond. I suggest at least trying it on your skin, you might be surprised.

This is buttery almonds to my nose. Too sugary and creamy. It smells so different in the imp and then on my skin. Slowly some gentle spices creep out. I'm not in love, but it's ok

I really liked this imp on first application. It smelled like slightly sweet (but no sticky sweet or food sweet) amber with a hint of honey and a nice incense background. I thought that I might like wearing this as much as Snake Oil but no such luck. That initial sweetness wore off so quickly, in as little 10 minutes. The drydown was nothing but honey a slight smokey incense. Don't get me wrong the drydown wasn't unpleasant at all, but it wasn't anything special either. I will wear this from time to time maybe until my imp runs out but after that I won't miss it enough to buy a full size.

This is such a gorgeous, sweet, syrupy scent. Starts drying down a little nutty, and it has a familiar note in it, that I cant pinpoint - but whatever it is, i LOVE IT. OMG. The more it starts drying, the better it gets. I could eat my arm, it smells so good.

Honey and more honey. Any more honey and I'd drown. Take this away please! To be sure, I dislike honey in anything. Just so's you know. I know it's not a stated note, but I smell it too, just like Maximina does.

Wow...Delicious. I am glad Bastet lived up to all the nice reviews. Comes out wet smelling of hot cherries and almonds. Immediately dries down so the cherry isn't as sharp. Then the almond nuttiness of it comes up. Ends up smelling comforting, buttery. I do detect an incense in there, but is actually tolerable. DH loves it.Looovvee the butteryness without being to foody of it. I definitely will by a 5ml of her.

This is an amazing perfume oil. I agree with the reviewer who cited the cherry marzipan effect is almost sickening at first but then it evolves into a warm, sensual golden potion. Give it a chance and you won't be disappointed. I also agree that the sillage is subtle - it stays close to the skin.

Another of my BPAL favorites. Sweet yet earthy... oh goodness this scent is heaven! I always get compliments when I wear this. If you're an amber fan you have to try Bastet! It does amber justice and is complimented well with the accompanying scents. The almond isn't overwhelming as it can often be. The musk isn't too much either. Ahhh... a perfect blend!

Okey doke: Bastet....
The description alone made me swoon...I absolutely LOVE cardamom and almond....and am now beginning to respect amber..so I have been pleased as punch to have the opportunity to try. Now mind you..I have tried this several times already...just needed to find the RIGHT time to reflect and analyze without feeling stressed or rushed...the weekend for me is perfect for this type of thing...
Okay..enough babbling..let's do it!!!
Sniffed from decant: Straight up almond..with the cherry vibe thrown in..I like it...
Applied wet on skin: Am still smelling the strong almond/cherry note..but I think I smell intermingled in this the amber...wow..this smells really good.
To me this really does smell *luxuriant*...like a slow, sure, well-bred fragrance..it gives off to me the lazy/sexy confidence...funny how I am NOT registering the lotus..which in my past experience has always been amped to the point of overwhelming sweetness...
Couple of minutes drying on skin: The party consists of golden amber, musk, and almond..with a hint of the cardamom...everyone is having a good time on my skin...including my nose..hee hee
Can I tell you how much I am enjoying this????
The throw is good on me...as I have stated before I have tried this several times and this particular BPAL oil has impressive lasting power...
Dry on skin: Same notes partying..but a bit softer..warmer...hmmm..lovely!!!
Bottom Line: I absolutely love this. For me this scent can go late summer through early winter..it's that versatile. I love the warmth of the amber coupled with the almond and cardamom..all the notes melded beautifully on my skin..another winner from Beth.

At first pure cherry/marzipan. A little sickening it is so strong at first. BUT THEN, it immediately changes into delicately floral, pure, soft, woodsy *HONEY* on me. Looking at the notes I see there is no honey in it and I am startled. This smells like the type of honey *dripping* fresh from a honeycomb. It has a rawness to it and is good enough to lick. Deliciously golden and warm.

Described as "(excolo) Bast, Ubasti, Ailuros, Ba-en-Aset. Represented as both a domestic cat and a fierce lioness, she truly evidences traits of both. She is the Mother of All Cats, Goddess of Sensuality, Fertility, and a guardian and protector of women. She is also one of the Eyes of Ra, and in that aspect is an Avenging Goddess, seeking retribution and punishing enemies of her people. Luxuriant amber, warm Egyptian musk, fierce saffron and soft myrrh, almond, cardamom and golden lotus. (Gender neutral)"
In the bottle this is straight up amaretto. but it morphs immediately once on the skin to something more complex, still with the almond sweetness that smells like honey to me, with resin (amber?)in the background. I'm liking this one a lot. However, the scent did not last very long on my skin- would not repurchase for that reason..

Wet and in the bottle, Bastet made me shudder in delight. My first thought on putting it on was that Bastet smelled like LOVE, though I'm not exactly sure where the thought came from. It certainly is a sexy scent, but there were no visions of romance or lust coming from the oil, it was just my reaction to it.
Wet the almond note is really strong in it, though it was one of those shifty almond notes that smell deceptively like cherry and not too much like almond. The lotus in the blend probably helped this impression. I could smell the amber too in the background, really warming the scent up.
The almond/cherry not that was so strong in the beginning backed off rather quickly, and within twenty minutes or so was just a whisper. From then on, Bastet was all about amber, rich, warm and lovely. The blend was very spicy and a bit smoky. In the middle stages I could definitely smell the myrrh, saffron and the cardamom as the provided a glorious pedestal to the amber.
Bastet is just exotic and blazing, evocative of grand marble temples, large comfortable cushions made of luxurious, golden fabrics, and air thick with perfumed smoke. Of just lazing around in splendor, quick smug about the fact that it's all for you and you quite deserve it all, much like a spoiled feline so it's very appropriate!
I love this lots! So glad I got a bottle. It just wears beautifully, and since I'm such an amber fan, there's no way I couldn't adore this.

This starts out with a blast of almond oil. It smells like you've opened a bottle of almond extract, very sharp. The strange thing is, the almond disappears after that and what you are left with is neither sharp nor foody.
After the initial blast, this is a fairly traditional oriental fragrance with powdery musc and amber dominating over subtle hints of myrrh and saffron. The drydown is lovely, golden and soft, but very mild.

this was fairly fruity in the vial, but on me it turned fruity/obsession/opium, then just all-day opium. like haunted without the baby powder finish... like a little old lady's empty perfume atomizer. just really...perfumey.

I'm probably not the only person who ordered an imp's ear of this scent just because I loved the name and the concept. :)
When I applied Bastet to my skin, I smelled an initial blast of cherry that reminded me of cough drops. I was already mentally listing this imp for swap, when the cherry note dissipated and Bastet revealed her true nature as a warm, sultry blend of amber and sandalwood, with some additional spices in the background. (I didn't notice any musk, which is fine with me.)
I'm usually more of a floral type, but I've been enjoying my sample of Bastet so far. If I decide to continue worshipping her, I'll purchase a 5 ml bottle.

This is intoxicatingly beautiful - exotic, golden and sultry, and yet subtle enough that I don't think I could OD on it, the way I have on some other scents like Snake Oil. The almond is fairly pure, and the myrrh is light enough to be pretty but not overpowering. Similarly, the lotus in this works for me here. But mostly I pick up on the cardamom, musk (subtle), and saffron topped by glorious amber and they make for an alluring, feminine, powerful scent that is just divine. All the relevant associations of the goddess of felines, pleasure and fertility are there.

Bewitching Brews ~ Bast, Ubasti, Ailuros, Ba-en-Aset.
As soon as Bastet was upon my skin, my first thought was how beautiful and regal she was. Just like a cat when they are sitting up, cooly observing you and all that is around them. This is indeed a golden scent, and it absolutely glows on my skin. The first note which struck me was the almond, but it quickly fades to the background as the musk and amber come to the forefront, with what I think might be the saffron (not really sure what saffron might smell like in a scent though). Sometimes I feel like it's almost lashing out at me, but there's a beautiful softness there too with the myrrh and lotus, and then, I think, a dry cardamom playing about. But it's that soft, gently spiced warmth that continues to radiate from my skin, and it's just gorgeous.
I've been very much looking forward to trying this scent! I adore Bastet... I have a little figurine of her and Anubis sitting amongst the perfumes on my dresser. Now that I have her scent, I just need Anubis'...
