This one is one of Madini's better oils, smokey sweet, Musky.. very exotic Embers, some say this sin';t authentic while others say it is. This one has a lot of character and is the one to try although my SO hates it because it starts out medicinal. If you like patchouli -amber type scents, you will like this one.

I am basically repeating what's already been stated...but this oil smells like pure firewood and smoke....it is very rich and takes just a miniscule amount...I bet I applied 2 drops and the sillage is massive, but not in a bad way. If you like smoke fragrances, I think this one should be a foundation fragrance, that you measure others against. The oil itself has the color and texture of pure dark molasses, which explains why it is such a potent fragrance and takes so little. I really like smoke and campfire fragrances, but I like some sugar sweet in mine and this one is not sweet, it is pure smoky.

Have you ever smelled those little incense-laden paper strips made to burn as air-fresheners, called Papiers d'Armenie? I adore the aroma from their smoke, and this perfume oil smells exactly like it!

It lasts forever on the skin and the tiniest bit is all that is needed. Madini oils are a great value and provide hours of sniffing pleasure because they are so exotic and surprising as they develop. Fun! I've tried several, but Ambargris and Musk Pierre are my favorites so far.

This stuff smelled seriously foul when I put it on. Vomitous, actually, which given what ambargris is, shouldn't have surprised me. Dries down to a warm, smoldering bonfire smell that would be wonderful in winter.

This fragrance really is something. A while back I won a bunch of Madini oils on ebay from someone who'd originally bought them in the 80s and the few that I've tried so far have aged quite well. (Bear in mind that this may smell different to the Ambargris currently available.)

The bottle of Ambargris I have is in a pale, green glass rose-shaped bottle, while the other scents are in glass vials. The liquid is a rich, dark brown yet not as thick or viscous as I expected an oil this old to be.

Given Madini's description*, this has real ambergris in it, so vegans will want to avoid it. I wasn't sure what to expect other than that I had read somewhere that ambergris is supposed to smell like human hair.

Initially, there was a top note of pine tar and another sharp note I can't identify. The tar soon disappears and is replaced with a resinous and smoky incense.

I'm Greek Orthodox and the Ambargris smells just like the incense they use in church. It's so much like having a censer full of incense and burning embers emanating from my wrists, it's uncanny.

I'm not very experienced with incense or amber scents (I'm more of a green/citrus/fruity/marine kind-of gal) but Ambargris blows me away. It really is a beautiful and evocative scent and I'm going to keep this little treasure.

If you love this kind of fragrance, run out and get some!

*Official description: "A healing panacea made from large chunks of ambergris when found by fishermen floating on the Atlantic Ocean. A scent to captivating and beautiful, it inspired John Singer Sargent to paint his famous La Fumee d'Ambergris." Ambergris is kind-of in the grey area of the ethics of using animal-derived ingredients (as opposed to musk, civet etc.) because it can be gathered after the whales have expelled it.

I have owned this scent for a while now, and own many other high end amber scents for which I paid a ton more money. But today after applying this little gem, it struck me that I never need try another amber fragrance, as there will not be a better one than Ambargris. it jars me to think that I paid $9 for this tiny roll on which should last me several years; as their oils are extremely potent and you only use a few swipes. This fragrance is so evocative and comforting and sexy ............ and the descriptions really do little service to prepare you for how fantastic this smells. I find it only gets better as the day goes on, oh yes, you will still smell it the next morning on your skin. Highly recommend!

This is to die for. It's possibly the loveliest fragrance that I have ever experienced. It's a heartbreakingly lovely amber over smokey fire embers. It's both dead-sexy and very comforting and comfortable.

This is a masterpeice of perfumery!

oh.
my.
god.

i've been loving incense fragrances for about 2 years now (maybe 2 1/2) -- and along comes this and blows everythng incense that i've smelled so far out of the water, smelling as it does of *real* smoke, *real* burning embers, over something very cozy, dry, and warm.

this may be one of the most beautiful fragrances i ever smelled.

bar none.

Have you been searching for a scent to remind you of sitting at a bonfire on a cool Autumn night? Love the way your sweater smells after being there for hours? If you want to hear the flames crackling and feel warm and toasty....this is the scent for you. Simply amazing. I will stock up on this, regardless of the high price tag. A little dab will do ya, and last all day long. Bonfire under the stars. Perfection.

I had never smelled ambergris until I smelled this one, and I picked a fabulous one to start with. I had read that ambergris promotes healing in the body, and I was not feeling well when I got my little vial and tried this. It is not sweet. While some say it is similar to amber, to me it is not the same scent. And in terms of description, I don't think I can add anything to Dunanda Falls' review below, but do try this unsweet totally natural scent, completely lacking in the petrochemical toxins so common in fragrances today. Madini is a fabulous company, and they set the standard for natural, in my book. Well, they are good enough to set the standard for scents, period. Update: My review was for the original Madini fragrance, which came in a 1/5 dram vial and was very intense. A teeny dab lasted a whole day. I have not tried the new 3 ml roll-on that is for sale today, and cannot comment on how natural or lovely it might or might not be.

Madini Ambargris is a lovely blend of amber, deep smoky wood, incense and musk. Oh heavenly sweet smokiness! This is the most beautiful, rich fragrance and seems to have just enough of each and every component. It is extremely well crafted and perfectly blended. The smoky wood has a slightly piney, dry, balsamic feel as it dries down. Ambargris is sweet, resinous, smoky, woody, ambery, dense and oh so sexy. I love it, but be careful with this one. Though considered to be unisex, I find it to be highly masculine, though you may enjoy it if you enjoy dense, smoky woods. Log onto madini.com and sample this one first. Madini oils are very thick and potent with a lot of sillage. With Madini, a little goes a long way and they last all day.
