I am not a fan of bar soap usually because there are far more convenient cleansers out there. That said this stuff really makes my face feel clean without feeling like I used detergent. It gives a nice lather and removes every trace of my Merle Norman total finish foundation which is stubborn to remove. No breakouts no dry patches. I don't care for the packaging because the tray doesn't allow for water to drain so the soap sits in it. Clinique could do better with packaging and the price is steep for a simple bar of soap. Overall Iike this as a basic cleanser, but I like to use other products with it not the most efficient system.

I originally tried this back in 2007. I liked it then, but ultimately stopped using it because the dish it came in didn't let the water drain away from the soap, leaving it really squishy and gunky on the bottom. I also seem to remember it made my cheeks a little dry. I've recently bought a new bar, and the dish has holes to allow water to drain away from the bar which is perfect. So, I've been using this twice a day and it works really well for me. I use L'Oreal's Hydrafresh toner after this, and the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and my skin is smooth, comfortable and glowing. For a 5.2 oz. bar, the price is great because I can see this lasting for months!

I do like this face soap. I bought it around March of last year, and have used up about half, so i think the $12 price tag is justified by how long it lasts you. I usually go through a bottle of face wash in about 2-3 months, so i think this is a pretty cheap buy! I use it with the #2 clarifying lotion, and the DDMG (i find the DDML too oily). This can be slightly drying, but i find pretty much every wash drying if i dont use moisturizer! I use it in the morning, and My face is SUPER oily in the morning, and i use vaseline at night as my eye cream/lash grower/lip balm. This takes it off very easily with a creamy foam. The reason for a 4? if it even gets NEAR my eyes, when i rinse it gets in them, and it STINGS like a MOTHERF! i have CRIED before, because it hurts so bad! this is bad for me, since i need my face wash to be able to take off the leftover vaseline around my eyes and lashes. Thankfully, i have a bottle of Johnson's baby wash that i use for that purpose, but still. So i recommend it, and probably will repurchase when im a broke college girl, but watch out ladies!

UPDATE 12/10/12- i dont know why i said this was drying, it really is the best!! it leaves your face soft, and totally comfortable, but not oily like a cream cleanser can make it. i absolutely love this face wash now, only one thing-im about halfway done with it, and all of the sudden, only on the top, its bumpy. on the bottom, totally smooth, but on the top, bumpy. I dont really mind, but im just curious. Ive read a few reviews that said the same thing, but am not sure if its a bad thing or not...?

If you use this soap THROW IT OUT. This is the original soap formula from Clique's incarnation from 1966. The PH on this soap is extremely ALKALINE, just the opposite of what skin is (ACIDIC.) You'd be better off using something like Dove or a soap from Olay. These have ingredients in them which make them more condusive for modern facial cleansing. They don't have a PH which is destructive to the Acid Mantle of the skin and they have ingredients which help them to rinse quickly and leave no residue leftbehind.
This is the same for the stronger version for more oily skin. The formula is from 1966. Washing with Dawn Dish Washing Detergent with Olay Serum for softer hands would be better than this Clinique Soap. It should be discontinued!!

After using this soap I am really surprised by the amount of negative reviews that this soap has received. I have oily and sensitive skin and my boyfriend's mother recommend this for me after both of us were talking about skin care products.
I have been battling acne for years and oily skin. My skin is also sensitive to products and cleansers. I have tried many drugstore brands and acne cleansers but all of those products seemed to break me out and never left my face feeling clean.
The first time I washed my face with this bar I knew that I was in love and I made the right decision. The soap does not leave any residue on your face as long as you know how to rinse your skin. Because the soap is in the form of a solid and not a liquid it requires a little more rinsing than a traditional liquid soap.
The nice thing about this soap is that after using it to cleanse my face my skin instantly felt clean and refreshed. I have cystic acne and regular pimples and within a few days my pimples were already shrinking and my skin felt more balanced.
This soap is not harsh on my skin and is a perfect solution for my skin problems. I will continue to buy this product. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Love love love this stuff. Hardly any ingredients, no SLS, no herbs, essences, bark willow or other crap that skin does not need. Simple, basic, a real winner. Hope they make this forever. Will repurchase for life.

I didn't like this soap at all! Who was the friggin' genius who decided that washing your face with a bar of soap was a good idea? I told the SA that I have dry, combination skin, and she urged me to buy this. I guess you can't always trust the nice ladies in the white lab coats, for their paychecks, they will steer you wrong.

First of all, I hate the actual physical act of washing my face with a bar of soap. I feel like I'm in jail or in the military. Is this the same bar of soap that I'm supposed to wash my hair and body with too?

Secondly, my bar got little bumps after I was using it for a few weeks. I don't know if it was a defective, or old bar that they sold me, but rubbing a bumpy bar on your face does not feel nice at all!

Third, my bar dried my face out. It felt very tight after I washed it, and my skin got flakey. Not even that aweful smelling mosturizer they sold me did anything to help.

Lastly, the bar dried out after a couple of months. Thank God! It gave me the perfect out to just trash the bar and find another face wash, any thing was better than this prison sentence!

NEVER AGAIN!

I know most of us haven't used soap since we were teenagers. But I've recently rediscovered it (in my early 40s) and have now become a huge soapaholic!
I found that I'd actually forgotten what truly clean skin feels like. I've also discovered that nearly all of the complaints associated with soap are solved by making sure you're very thoroughly rinsing.
This soap is by far the most easily available, and most affordable, unless you wanna give Dove a try. But the Clinique soap is really my favorite, and probably about all you could hope for!

this wasnt... bad. i used this back when my acne was at its peak (red, angry, and about to burst).
for a bar soap, it wasnt as drying as i had expected. i still needed a moisturizer, but it didnt flake out my skin like other soaps.
for an ACNE bar soap, it didnt do much of anything. it just cleaned my face, but my acne was still sprouting up like nothing was treating it. this soap didnt make my skin worse, but didnt make my skin any better.
as a regular cleanser, its ok. but if youre really trying to treat your acne, i'd look somewhere else.

I think I might prefer this bar over the liquid soap. It has a nice creamy lather, and leaves my face feeling clean without the tightness. I think these will also last a long time so it is a good value. Hasn't caused breakouts.

This is the only, I repeat ONLY, soap I can use on my face on a daily basis without fear of spots, redness, dry, flaky skin or any of the other horrible results I've had with other supposed 'facial' soaps.

I agree that it is more expensive than some other facial cleansing products out there, but when you consider that the travel size of this lasts for well over 3 months (if used correctly and left out to dry after use), it's really not that expensive at all.

There's hardly any smell to this soap either and it lathers up nicely, just enough to make you feel you've washed your face thoroughly, but not too much that you end up with that horrible 'I've just washed my face with a bar of soap and boy, don't I know it' tight feeling you can get with other makes.

This is a staple part of my daily facial cleansing routine, and provided Clinque don't suddenly decide to change the formula or discontinue it, will continue to be so for many years to come!

I bought this because it was pretty cheap and I wanted to try something new. I actually got the 3 little soaps with the travel case, which is the mild facial soap but in 3 little soaps (hence the name). These little soaps took me a year to finish! I did not like the case that it came in because the soap would not dry after use so I would place it on a soap dish that collected water. The soaps were very mild and cleansed the face...didn't do anything special. After a while, I was just using it just to use it up. Average rating...but if I could, I would give it a 3.5.

Bought this in a package from a Clinique counter, with wild promises that using their regiment would clear my acne and give me the skin I've always wanted. Who can pass up a claim like that?

I can't see any difference between this and other face soaps, other than the steep price. And it tends to get really gross looking after several uses. I'd try to scrape off the nasty and carry on, but I switched cleansers after a while and no effect.

Using the kit, I did find that I really like their clarifying lotion/toner.

Fail. I used this soap for 2.5-3 years during my teenage years when I just didn't know any better and had I been armed with the knowledge I have today (or have known about makeupalley then), I would have saved myself the heartache and the money.

This product, despite its name, is far from mild. Not only did it dry up my skin (in an awful way), it also left me FLAKY. I think Clinique definitely got it wrong with their 3 step skincare system, because almost everyone I know who has tried this product was left disappointed.

I wouldn't waste my money on Clinique 3 step products. Clinique may have other great items, but this soap is definitely not one of them.

I really like this soap, it really gets my makeup off well. My face feels nice and clean after I use it, and it doesn't overdry my skin or make it oily. I also really like that you get such a huge bar and a cute soapdish with it for only $12. These bars last a good 2-3 months for me, and I use them 2x a day, in the morning and then again at night. I tried the extra mild once for a little while because I had run out of this kind and my Sephora didn't have any more of the mild kind in stock. Well, I won't be making that mistake again...my skin was overly oily and greasy and just gross. This soap however, keeps my skin in check and I don't have that issue with the mild formula. I will definately buy this over and over again.

I have this product in a smaller trial size with comes with their free bags and I have to say this is not comparable to the liquid facial cleanser. I like how it comes with a soap container which is absolutely adorable but I don't like how my face feels after cleansing. It cleans my face fairly well but after washing off my face it feels as if there's soap residue left on my face. Since I got it for free I can't really hate it. I still use it when I travel because its small and convenient but for everyday use I would prefer using the liquid one.

It's a good basic soap for sensitive skin. If it doesn't seem to do anything good for your skin, take heart that it doesn't sabotage it either (as far as I can tell). But you might expect more from a product that costs as much. I plan to try the Cetaphil soap instead since it fulfills the same requirements without costing 4 times more.

I have used this soap for the past 6 years, and now that I've found it, I am a customer for life. Growing up and dealing with acne, oily skin, well just plain bad skin really lol.. we tried so many things for me over the years. Specialty soaps, tea tree mint soap, Neutrogena, Clean and Clear, etc etc.. let's just say basically everything else, and nothing worked.. if anything, they made it worse. When I started hearing about the Clinique 3 step system, I figured why not give it a try.. everything else has been there done that lol. I can honestly say, this has worked better than anything else I've ever tried before. Nothing comes close! I have many times tried to "cheap out" and try something else, but once I get those horrible breakouts, blackheads and oil slicks again, I run right back to my Clinique bar. I also find that it's really quite reasonable, as I can make the bars last anywhere from 10-12 months each. Again, I will stick with this and yes, definitely repurchase many, many times!!

Id say this stuff is not that great. I have skin that gets zits once in a while and have some bumps on my forehead and this didn't really get rid of them. My skin is only so so right now and since I spent money for the whole system (mousse makeup remover, soap, toner, gel moisturizer) I wanted and expected amazing skin. Not so.

SIDE NOTE if you get this stuff up your nose (which seems to happen easily by putting it near ur nose and breathing in too long) then you will sneeze 15 plus times and be stuffed up afterwards!!! I dont know, this happens to me atleast twice a week and its annoying as hell, even thought I take precautions to avoid it. So if you use it CAREFUL AROUND YOUR NOSE. does anyone else notice that? oh and if it gets too close to my eyes (not even in) then it seeps in and they burnnnnn.
