I found this to be a too heavy oriental fragrance with no lasting power...

No, this scent makes me feel ill. I don't understand what the body shop are doing with this range. I usually love their fragrances but this is just too heady. Its sickening and way too sweet.

Zinzibar, Citrella and Altaro are my least favorite in the 'invent your scent' range (my faves from the range being Amorito, Aztique and Chymara...they all have terrible lasting power though, so i layer abit of patchouli oil on my skin before spraying them on)...anyways, Citrella is just waaay too citrusy, just squeeze a lemon and you get Citrella, Zinzibar smells like nothing but sneeze-inducing ginger juice, and Altaro is too heavy and herb-y, although I don't think that it smells particularly awful or anything, i just wouldn't wear it on myself...there's this cloying-medicinal-herbal note (it's the cloves, i'm pretty sure) that annoys me and reminds me of a chinese medicine shop...this one is my mom's fave in the range and it smells okay on her, a warm and comforting sort of smell, interestingly she's the sort who won't part with her Tiger balm (herbal medication balm used for achy joints).

This is my general fallback scent. I dunno why people don't like it on themselves, it smells cinnamon-ey but fresh and almost herbal. Goes especially well with rose scents. I get a lot of compliments when I wear this.

I have a love hate relationship with this item. People says it smells good on me, they say it gives me a mysterious aura....(nice). But i have to be honest to myself, i am not crazy about this scent, it is too heady for me. Maybe i'll like it better if i am a place with a cooler climate. The humidity in my country really makes the heady scent hard to bear and nauseating. Practically gives me a headache. To make it bearable, i only use it at night, sometimes i mix it with Vanilla fragrance also by TBS.

I simply adore Altaro. It smells sooo good, I usually get a lot of compliments on it.
On me it's more of a musc and sandalwood blend.
Layering it with vanilla seems to add some softness to it too.
It's my comfort scent.Too bad it's discontd. :(
I have about 5 bottles of it.

I did not like this at all. I was reminded of a used toilet when first spritzed (sorry for the image), and now it's not that bad, but still unpleasant to my nose.

I feel I should stick up for this product. Scent is probably the most personal matter of opinion there is. But Altaro by no means smells like bubblegum, muddy dogs, or woodsheds (well, maybe the last one, but in an appealing way). It's an oriental, but a soft one, and though it has a hint of musk, it's not that overbearing artificial musk that recently proliferates in fragrances for both genders, and which I cannot seem to avoid on public transit (and to which I seem to be allergic - does anyone know what I'm talking about?). I layer this scent with TBS Amorito, to add a yummy vanilla flavour to the mix and it's really lovely. However, I must drop a few points for staying power. This stuff's really watery (or alcoholy as it were). It's strength does not compare to dept store fashion house scents. That can be a good thing for some - never overpowering. But it's almost more like a body splash than a perfume/EDT.

This is the worst of the "Invent Your Scent" collection. It smells like a combination of muddy dog and wet fertilizer. It is in no way romantic or elegant. I find it very unappealing and I don't recommend it alone or mixed.

oriental + passionate. "hints of cinnamon, clove, and amber. Mix it up with Citrella or wear it alone."
this is easily my least favorite of the bunch. i honestly smell no cinnamon, clove or amber. it reminds me of the original maybelline kissing potion lip glosses.
its powdery and smells a whole lot like bubblegum with a hint of wintergreen. wintergreen is one of my least favorite scents ever. im also not a fan of anything powdery.

Altaro is one of my favorite of the Invent-Your-Scents, and one of the few I bought in the bigger bottle. I love the deep, woody-spiciness. It is especially nice with Zinzibar (very spicy) and Beleaf. The only thing I dislike about this scent, and all the IYS scents, is a strange powder note to it. Otherwise, the bottle is nice (super-sly how they all fit together), and the price isn't bad ($16 for one, a bit more than their other EDTs, but 2/26 is a nice deal).

altaro is a nice, soft, oriental fragrance. cinammon and clove stand out the most on my skin. it is truly a lovely fragrance, and i like to layer it with chymara, but the lasting quality is very poor on me. i can barely smell it an hour later. purple bottle.

This is pretty close to what I've been searching for. I like subdued, warm, *skin* scents. This is a very light oriental, in my opinion there is nothing typical about this. I've always liked orientals but find them too heavy and perfumey, any that aren't heavy are boring. This is light but warm, not perfumey at all. Everyone I get close to while wearing this always leans in to get a better whiff and I've recieved several comments that it smells comforting. For work I usually top this with Aztique. Unfortunately, it doesn't last long at all, but for this price it's not much of a problem.

I really like this !
I am keen to try out some of the others in the range too, but my nose was too overwhelmed when i was smelling them in the store so i have to go back. :) I'm not sure what it is that i like about this so much - and yeah, it does wear off to fast for me, but i will try putting some neutral smelling lotion on my skin first to give the fragrance something to 'stick to'. Well done Body Shop!!

Finally, I come to the last of the 9 scents in my little sampler pack. Altaro smells typically "oriental", kind of like a lighter version of Opium or Coco. On me, the clove stands out the most. Not my usual cup of tea, but it's an interesting change of pace. I'll try this one with Aztique, Amorito, or Citrella.

Ok, I went to CP this for someone last night, but it was so yummy I had to get one for myself too! I'm very selective with fragrances, as in, I only wear like two different ones. So it's a big deal that I fell instantly, hopelessly in love with this scent!! It smells gorgeous. My only complaint is that it wore off really fast, so I can tell I'm going to have to douse myself in the future. The bottle is purple, and it somehow smells...purple... ;-)

I would like to thank the Body Shop for perfectly capturing the scent of my grandfathers garage in New England- like raw old wood and kinda damp. Tidy but not exactly clean, because, after all, it is a garage. For that I am grateful. But, alas, I do not want to smell like Pop's garage. So I keep my sample vial to sniff, not to wear.
