I know people find this to be tacky in feel, but I wonder if they are talking about the older formula. I remember feeling the same way some years back, and then trying it again at the salon I use and finding it had changed. I've been using this for at least 2 years, in Aspen, and it really does work for me. I use it over Clinique city block, and get very sheer, even coverage and a polished look, and most importantly, have been well protected from the sun. But when I did a huge cosmetic clean-out recently, I figured there had to be something newer and better, so I tried to find some other BB/tinted moisturizers. Now I really appreciate Inner Light. I tried 2 Dr. Jarts, black and gold (25 and 45 SPF, how great I thought), and now have the driest, flakiest skin I've had in years. Then I tried a Too Faced BB cream and ended up with orange streaks on my face. I'm afraid of Stila (historic break-outs) and can't use anything with chemical sunscreen, so don't have a lot of choices. Years ago Chanel had a beautiful product they discontinued, then I turned to Shiseido's TM, but after a while it was reformulated with chemical sunscreen. And then Clinique discontinued their Almost Makeup, which I used off and on throughout for years, and always liked but didn't love. I used it interchangeably with the Aveda and felt it was pretty much a corporate twin (same owner), so now that Almost Makeup is gone, Inner Light really is my best option. I can't keep experimenting with this, it's not fair to my rosacea, so I bought a new tube of Aspen today. Even if it isn't the latest and greatest or loved by all, I would recommend you try the current formula for yourself if you are having trouble finding a TM with physical sunscreen that is kind to your skin.

I worked at an Aveda salon for 3 years and became really partial to this tinted moisturizer and the dual foundation pressed powder. Let me start by saying that I have extremely acne-prone skin. I've never had a tinted moisturizer or foundation that doesn't break me out, and this stuff doesn't! I love it! I think it has just the right amount of coverage for a TM. I apply this all over and then set with the dual foundation pressed powder, also from Aveda. I'll probably go back to using this, but I'm searching for something that has a longer wear (although it doesn't make me oily--sometimes I develop a slight sheen on more hectic days, if I perspire or if my skin is just oilier that day--it only has, for me, a wear time of about 5 hours before it starts to wear off and my blemishes and acne scars start to show through). Overall, I will repurchase if I don't find something with more coverage and a longer wear life. Finding ANY product that doesn't break me out is a godsend.

OMG , please DONT buy this. I used this one and this sent me to the emergency room. My face broke up into rashes and skin around my eyes were swollen. Doctor said its an allergic reaction to the chemicals in it. I thought Aveda is suppose to be all natural. They had to give me an injection of Benadryl and Prednisone. I knew it was from this bc I switched from La mer to this to just try it. This makes me afraid of any other Aveda products. I should send the company of what my face looks like now.

Really like this. I've got pretty sensitive dry-ish skin and have trouble finding foundations that don't have too much fragrance, aren't silicone heavy and don't look overly made-up. This has an impressively short ingredient list, blends well and provides just enough coverage without looking made up. I use concealer on any blemishes on top of this and I'm happy. I use Eve Lom's TLC cream underneath and this mattifies any shine from that. I also like that it's not overly fragranced, there is a slight chemical smell but it disappears as soon as you apply. Best of all, I've had no reaction or sensitivity to this and that is rare for something that delivers some sun protection. I got this during Debenham's sale so with 5 pounds off through Beauty Club points and 10% off for the event sale it was a bargain at 21 pounds.

I was looking for a great "BB Cream" (moisture & sunscreen & tint all in one), and chose this one for 3 reasons: 1.) it has no chemical fragrance 2.) the active suncreen ingredient is known to be very effective, non-irritating, and natural. 3.) Paula Begoin put this makeup on her Beautypedia list of "best makeups available, with suncreen." She gave it a rave review on every count, and it's hard to get a rave review from Paula! SO I really wanted to love this product, but I can't say I even "like" it. The packaging is perfect, but the product... meh. On the plus side, I will say it is non-irritating and doesn't make my eyes water. And the shade "Aspen" is a very decent match to my very fair slightly golden skin tone. I also like the feel... glides on light and easy, and the very slightly "tacky" feel does not bother me. The finish, though, is just plain odd and pointless. Yes, there is somewhat of a "healthy glow" if you stretch your imagination, but in my opinion the glow is nullified by the very problematic "finish" of this product on the surface of the skin! The tint does not stay "even" across the face... at only 15 minutes after putting it on (over washed, toned, and bare skin) I noticed that the color appeared a bit "mottled" already... that is inexcusable in a high-end product, especially given that my skin is not that oily. The product does not look natural on the skin... if you look closely, you can see it sitting on top of the skin. It also accentuated my flaws, such as shallow scars, fine lines, enlarged pores... now TRUE, many makeups (even the good ones) DO accentuate those particular flaws, but "in exchange" for that, they COVER discoloration, and make your skin look even toned. This Aveda product does not do that.... it did not "even out" my skin-tone very much at all. I can already hear people saying "but it's not a foundation!... it's not supposed to cover anything." Ok... I get that... but it IS supposed to provide a sheer "evening" effect, no?... and I'm saying that it doesn't do that very well... so unless you have nearly PERFECT skin to begin with, I'm betting this will not be "enough" evening-out for you. You'd be better off just mixing a dab of your normal foundation with any facial sunscreen that agrees with you, if what you want a super-sheer application that actually proves some evening-out. In all fairness, I think the main reason I don't like this product is because I am discovering that "BB Creams" are just not the "thing" for me. I WANT to like them, because they appeal to my "minimalist" philosophy. But it seems to me that with all of these "lightly tinted" face products, you get all of the drawbacks of wearing makeup, with no actual coverage!
I'm going back to my Clinique "Even Better" makeup... I appreciate it so much more now!

I bought this for the non chemical sunscreen (titanium dioxide) since I am sensitive to various chemical ones. Being it was tinted was a bonus. Unfortunately, I am sensitive to something else in it because my face has more red spots and bumps on it than ever after wearing it for only a week. Besides that, I don't think it is very moisturizing either. Overall a fail. Will probably throw out or give away since I doubt I will be able to return it :(

At first I was really excited how nice it made my skin look. I have sensitive skin and it didn't leave me with any discomfort! Jojoba oil is one of the ingredients, and I know a lot of people swear by its effectiveness against acne and for moisture. (For myself, I hadn't had so much luck, but I digress...) SO I was really liking it, and dusting an acne controlling powder on top. I did have transfer on my hands, but so long as I don't touch my face right? ... I had breakouts, but I figured it was just stress and changing my cleansing routine... then I run out of this. No more makeup. And my face clears up! Then I go out one night and wear this again after two-three weeks of clear skin. Breakout! And its the kind where you not only have pimples, but you have these red patches around some of them. This product is bad news on normal to oily skin!
OH! and one last thing, I got major gunk buildup on my brush from this! Can't be good for your skin!

This stuff is one of the worst products I've ever used. It left my skin very angry after using just one time - yesterday!
Two days ago, my skin was clear, calm and glowing with no irritation. Today, I woke up and my face is covered, I mean COVERED in red dots that look like razor burn mixed with small white pimples all over my face.
I'm no stranger to irritation as my skin is combination dry, sensitive and prone to breakouts if it doesn't agree with a product but this is excessive. Finding products that work for my skin has been a real feat and I finally found a good skin care regime that works to calm my skin and now one day of this stuff messed it all up. The worst part is that I didn't even like the coverage as it had a tacky feel all day and a white cast to it. So disappointed - in the trash it goes.

PROS:
-Has significantly more coverage and is longer wearing than other tinted moisturizers I have tried, blends well
-has great staying power on my skin (have not tried it in very humid weather or temperatures above 90 degrees)
-actually lives up to it's moisturizing claims
-wears well with blush, bronzer, highlighters
-luminous finish without looking tacky or too dewey
-matches my fair skin with slight yellow undertones (Aspen)
-photographs well
-washes off easily
CONS:
- pretty much has to be worn alone. Aside from a light dusting of powder or sparse use of liquid concealer, cannot be worn well with a stronger SPF or moisturizer under it and still wear well. Also does not work as a base for a heavier coverage foundation
-not transfer resistant
-limited shades, probably only good for dry and very dry skin.
*if you find the consistency very gluey or tacky, you may have gotten an old tube. This happened to me once, they replaced it no problem.

This is a review for Aveda Inner Light Mineral Tinted Moisture SPF 15, no.3 sweet tea. I think I like the product, but the colour is completely wrong for me -- almost yellow-looking. If I can find the right colour, I may try it again. The coverage is good for a TM, though with the colour being too dark, it did accentuate lines when I looked at my face close-up. But from a distance, my face looked dewy and healthy, and it didn't feel heavy on the skin.

I was looking for a moisturizer that was tinted as well. I really don't like to wear makeup but this product really works well as a moisturizer and foundations. Two in one is a bonus! Plus it also SPF! I would definitely recommend this for anyone who doesn't like to wear makeup up but still wants to look as though they are wearing something. I bought it for $20 at the Aveda salon.

Leaves my skin feeling sticky and oily - and I have dry/normal skin. Just yuck. I love Aveda stuff in general, but definitely not this.

*EDIT* Much better in the winter when my skin actually needs the moisture. still needs blotting and doesn't have great staying power on me, if I need that I head for my Almay TLC. bumping it up to a 3.
Not a good product for oily skin, despite some reviews I've seen here. It stays tacky and greasy all day, and just doesn't do anything flattering for my skin. Such a pity that Aveda doesn't do returns.

I really like this TM. The only one I've liked better than Mecier. I also have the Inner Light Mineral Dual Foundation so if I want more coverage I'll use it dry over the top. It stays all day, looks soft and does a good job moisturizing.

I would most DEFINITELY not buy this product again.
At first it looked great, it totally gave just enough coverage. Then, after about a week, i just broke out.....and it was HORRIBLE. So, if you never ever get zits, this product could be for you...but be careful!!!

This product is not like I thought it would be. My best friend is an Aveda stylist and I am always impressed with their products but this was a little bit of a disappointment to say the least. This product had a pleasant "Aveda smell" but was useless when it came to concealing or using it as a foundation. I felt like it made my face feel oily and I have normal to dry skin. The color blended well with my skin tone and I didn't have any lines by my neck and face line but the product did me no favor in covering anything up. I didn't feel as though it was a makeup and it didn't help my skin at all, I began to break out a little after using it for a while. This product was a disappointment but maybe I used it wrong? I still like Aveda but I don't particularly care for/recommend this product.

Oh bummer, I'm so sad! I wanted to love this product, everything from the name to the packaging to the recommendations from various beauty gurus made it sound fabulous. I went and got a sample in the shade Poplar and tried it on today - It went on beautifully - a little tacky at first but set well with Nude by Nature mineral finishing veil. It looked lovely on me ALL day (did become a little more oily towards the end of the day). But it made my skin look so lovely and glowy as if it really had an inner light! And I loved the coverage for a TM. HOWEVER! and this is a big big however - I noticed two zits at the end of 10 hours wearing it in spots where there were no zits yesterday. Yes friends! As many other reviewers have noted this TM is notorious for breaking people out, especially in the cheek area same place where I got two zits today. So sadly, lovely and beautiful as this TM looks on faces, zits scare me more than anything else and I will not be trying it another day or buying it. I'm currently using Dr. Dennis Gross MD Skincare AllIn-One Tinted Moisturiser, which is good, but no where near the lovely finish and staying power of Aveda Inner Light. But it is atleast skin friendly. Sorry Aveda :( Although - I would wholeheartedly recommend this to women who do not break out easily and for slightly cooler climates or weather.

I have tried Laura mercier tinted moisturizer and was really disappointed. My hairstylist recommended this to me (her face looked flawless and like velvet and I asked what she used) we both used to use MAC but it would clog our pores. I tried this tinted moisturizer and I love it. My face looks dewy and smooth after applying. I still need to use concealor under my eyes or over any blemishes. It can be a bit tacky if it's humid out so I also bought the aveda powder and just dust a small bit on.
This is what gives me a flawless face. I'm really impressed, especially since I have REALLY oily skin. So bad that I go to a dermatologist for it, but avedas tinted moisturizer holds up great!!

I don't understand this TM and I am not sure who to recommend it for either; I purchased it after reading great reviews and seeing it win awards. Aveda as a natrual brand fits my style and Aspen seemed suitably pale (not many products are). The tester patch on my hand had a beautiful sheen and the colour blended into my cheek; in 2 seperate stores the assistant raved about it as a product. needless to say I was really excited to get it on and start working out the best way for me to wear and apply it.
Initially it does give a radient and even look, for me I have found it very tacky and sticky and 'heavy' feeling on my skin. Also powder blush or finishing powder can't be applied over it.
I found that it 'sat' on my skin rather than morphing with it. I can't blend it with any level of sucess with either a liquid foundation or a moisturiser. My biggest issue however is that it has irritated my skin beyond belief. within an hour ( I have now used this for 7 days) each day my face has been feeling dehydrated which is something I have never expereinced before, not only that but terribly itchy too. When I then cleanse my face it is litteraly beetroot colour, again I have never had this response before. The sales pitch suggests it allows skin to breathe and keeps it hydrated all day. I dispute these to claims.
So, it irritates sensitive skin; it dehydrates combination skin therefore I can't see it will work for dry types and it is too pearly for oily skin. Who can wear it?
Really disappointing. product.
UPDATE; I contacted Aveda and 12 days on I am yet to receive a response

Sooo.... The NEW version is 40% thinner than the old version and that is great! The old version was really thick, moist and really fragranced.
I bought the new version and it is a whole other product! I really love this one, it is sheer but does balance my skin and my skin color (btw. Im really fair and shade 01 Aspen is great for me). The fragrance is subtle and you don't feel guilty about wearing this make-up cause it doesnt have bad chemicals.
It is very moisturizing so I did have to put a little loose powder on top but Im thinking about skipping that and just go with the dewy finish and healthy skin look this TM gives.
This TM is exactly what a TM should be !
