The smell is very strong at first and dies down after about 15 minutes. Upon first spray, I thought it smelled like old-lady soap. After it wore down a bit it smelled more neutral and less offensive. I bought a .5 bottle for $5.90 on super clearance so I figured it was worth a try. I wouldn't buy it again, but I intend to use the rest of the bottle on my errand days.

I read reviews on this and was instantly intrigued. I heard that it smells lovely and it also smells like rancid fruit. Well I'm all into rancid fruits so I went on hunt for this.80's ambrosia. Finally found this gem at Ulta. My niece told me it stunk but I loved it. It reminds me of a warm summer day. Fresh cut grass and slightly minty. Maybe like someone dropped spearmint gum on their lawn. Not overpowering at all but doesn't disappear 20 minutes after you spray.

The price was a bit steep but all in all I guess it was worth it.

didn't like it washed it off and still could smell it it is clean smelling like a too-powerful soap granny made out by the cement pond - not my thing at all very unusual and probably quite memorable and must be very nice on some people the packaging is very plain and actually ugly to me but it did sound like one I just had to try because it is so unique

This is my all time favorite scent. It's a blast from the past for me too but something made me think about it last year and I found it at a store and have been wearing again ever since. It's a clean scent. Love it.

Now this is a blast from the past! I used to wear it in high school yeeears ago, and off and on since then. It's a classic. Calyx is a crisp, green citrus that has a sparkling, slightly bitter edge. It's not one that I can get a specific note on: the blend is so complex that it's like Calyx is a reference to nothing but itself. Sort of like a citrus green Snozzberry; a fruit of the imagination. From the Prescriptives website:
"The exhilarating top note of Calyx Exhilarating Fragrance includes a profusion of grapefruit and mandarin with a tropical blend of passion fruit, mango, papaya and guava. The refreshing middle note is a bouquet of freesia, muguet, neroli, rose, lily, jasmin and marigold. The deep sensual base note is a luscious weaving of oakmoss, orris, sandalwood and vetiver."
I noticed one of the main notes is mandarin. Mandarin in perfumery doesn't smell like a mandarin orange. It comes off rather astringent, synthetic, and bitter, like the mandarin fruit but more typical of the peel than the juice. And this is starting to sound like a light cyphre (think green/slightly bitter earthy), looking at neroli, marigold, oakmoss, orris and vetiver.
On me, Calyx starts off as a crisp, fizzy, and plasticy citrus-green. As it mellows, the fruits and florals come out as it softens but still retains a brisk, mouth-watering freshness. I don't find it sweetens much on my skin as do most citrus-scents, which is why I could wear it in Phoenix...in the summer...and not come off smelling like condensed soft drink syrup.
NOTE: I've found this formula to be especially light and heat-sensitive. Keep it in a cool drawer to maintain freshness.

This used to be my everyday fragrance a few years ago and I loved it (time to buy a new bottle maybe?). This is one of those scents that make you happy and just lift you up. Hello world, here I am! Better for spring/summer time as its refreshing and a bit fruity (in a citrusy way). Love it!!!

I've known about Calyx for decades, but never tried it until this year. The Sales Associate at Nordstrom had me try it, and I'm so glad he did.
Let me start by saying that I normally never wear fragrance when it gets hot. I dislike being hot and sweating. When it's hot outside, I sometimes feel slightly nauseaous. Heat intensifies fragrances, so I've always avoided them like the plague when the mercury climbs ... until now, that is.

Calyx is a light, lovely, fresh fragrance that is perfect for warm or hot weather. On me, the top notes are grass, hay, spearmint, grapefruit, and oranges. The middle notes are added rose and lilly, and the spearmint disappears. The dry-down is a delightful and refreshing blend of citrus, green, and floral. Calyx does not get sweet or fruity on me as many other reviewers have found.

I like this scent. It reminds me of that fizzy grapefruit smell that a lot of today's energy drinks have, and that's exactly what I was hoping for. I don't get any greenness on my skin, but the fizziness fades and becomes a gorgeous, upbeat, creamy fruit scent.

This scent makes me feel sick :P Reminds me of taking a wheat grass shot. LOL

Bath and Body Works makes a green scent. It's called rainkissed leaves. It smells a little less sickening.

I have heard alot about this scent for a couple of years now but i thought it had been discontinured so i was very happy when i saw it over the weekend for sale. Upon first spritz it smells like walking through a field of lemon grass. Its very crisp and fresh. A little later i think i can detect lily of the valley. After wearing Calyx for a few days it is what i like to call a nature scent. You know when you walk outside on a nice day and it just smells good outside? You cant pick out anything specific but you seem to smell flowers, trees, bushes etc etc etc. That is what Calyx smells like to me. Flowers, trees, leaves, bark, dirt, mulch, weeds, and herbs. It's an odd little fragrance but highly enjoyable.

Been wearing this for 20+ years and I still get men stopping me asking me what I'm wearing. Die hard Calyx fans will agree- there is nothing like it. Clean, refreshing and feminine- lasts a long time. Still haven't found one I like more.

Bleeeeech!!! This made my nose cringe for quite awhile, it smelled almost of BO or something. I'll stick to my orientals and leave the citrus to the gals who like those scents....not for me.

LOVELY. I first came across this scent years ago when I was too young to actually wear perfume. But I've returned to it as the weather is warming up. I usually HATE citrus notes, but the one that I can tolerate and actually quite like, is grapefruit. Calyx delivers the grapefruit scent I love in spades. This is wonderful for summer and anytime your mood needs a little boost. I detect the other fruit notes like the guava and peach as well, but none of them overpower the grapefruit note. I smell the floral notes in this the least and sometimes I can't even smell them at all. The lasting power is pleasing as well. I'm not a huge fan of the bottle. I don't find it to be attractive and doesn't look great on a dresser, but that's my only true grievance. No biggie, because the scent inside is what matters. And the scent inside is divine!

This is a lovely, fresh perfume. Notes are:

Top Notes
Tagetes, Apricot, Spearmint, Bergamot, Cassie, Peach .

Middle Notes
Lily, Muguet, Jasmin, Melon, Rose, Cyclamen.

Base Notes
Musk, Moss, Raspberry, Cedar.

On my skin, I get an initial whiff of bergamont and a bit of peach. This dries down quite quickly to a lovely blend of lily, mint, and rose that has quite superior lasting power. Some have mentioned it smelling very fruity on them, but I don't get much fruit at all, other than the citrus in the initial spritz. Very refreshing, and a must for spring.

This starts off as a pretty sweet and strong mix of rose and tropical fruits, but the rose doesn't get too sharp and sour, unlike other rose perfumes. Unfortunately, it has the same nose-tickling properties as Clinique Happy, which keeps this from being a winner for me. The drydown smells like some of the Calgon hand lotions I've had in the past.
~Edit~ Now that this is available at Target, I had to try it again. It's still pretty sharp and loud at first, but the perfume has really grown on me. Not an everyday perfume, but worth a try.

Appropriately named--it does smell like a green, juicy stem, a bit sweet, but mostly astringent. Smells just like the Avon Mango Madness body spray I had in the 90's.

Calyx Prescriptives has been my signature fragrance since I was 17. I'm a huge fan of citrusy, clean-smelling scents, so this definitely fit the bill. I really dislike heavy, musky smells and this was such a breath of fresh air compared to all the other perfumes I've smelled over the years. A 1.7 oz. bottle lasts me for well over a year, and I use it just about every day. Although it's a bit on the pricy side, it's still definitely worth every penny.

The reviews on here, and the description of the scent on Prescriptives website made me want to try it. I went to their counter and tried it out, didn't buy it. Good thing, it would have gone back.

I found it strong. I did get some of the green scents, but overall it just smelled kind of cheap to me. Just must not mix well with my body chemistry. I tried hard to wash it off, took a while.

I expected something light and fresh. But that 's not how it smelled to me.

Oh, the perils of cruising a website in two windows...

I meant for the review below to appear under Jovan's Woman...my apologies. I have added it there, but can't locate a method for removing it here.

On the other hand, I am *very* fond of Calyx, and have rated it accordingly in this entry. It's one of the few chypres I truly like,as it's softened by the citrus notes.

I gave this fragrance 3 stars because it truly is distinctive, instantly recognizable, a true snapshot of '80s sunny optimism, right down to the futuristic green hue and uber-modern bottle and typeface. But... it's not for me.

Calyx reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum and canteloupe rinds stuck to freshly cut grass... or a chemist's rendition thereof. It is intensely green and intensely fruity, but on me it is unbearably sharp and artificial, almost like a BBW body spray. I really do want to like this more, but as many times as I've tried it, I know it's just not my thing. There's no warmth, no organic feel. It isn't the least bit sexy or even feminine to me. And the price is outrageous for something that has low-to-average lasting power.

However, I do not knock this scent as a concept, and I know it smells great on some people.
