I used to love this scent when I was 18 - maybe it was the marketing. 6 years on, I find it slightly too synthetic in smell, too soapy, and just not sophisticated enough and without enough character.

It doesn't do anything wrong, but it doesn't do anything right. Won't be repurchasing :p

Romance is a pretty floral perfume...smells like roses and violets...soapy and dainty floral...Romance is so romantic...nice for all occasions and lovely for spring and summer...

Contrary to prior reviews, or as the name Romance suggests, Iwould not describe this as an overall girlie or uber feminine scent. For me, it's sort of an outdoorsy,....sporty, chic scent. After the first hour I absolutely detect a subtle woodsy and musky notes and there seems to be some recognizable Ralph Lauren ingredient reminding me of his Polo scent my first bf gave me decades ago. I really like this My husband loves this. Winner for me!

By the way, it smells a lot like "Pleasures" by Estee Lauder, but is less sharp than Pleasures, which is a good thing:)

i got this for last christmas and first i thought its an ok smell. over time however i really have started to love it! nice, not a too overwhelming scent and smells fresh and clean.

Fresh, clean, sophisticated. Definitely doesn't smell natural—it smells like perfume, though I wouldn't say this is a bad thing. It's great for winter.

OH MY GOD! I have been on the hunt for my HG scent and I have finally found it. I think this perfume must have a mood enhancer in it orsomething because whenever I put it on I am instantly in a good mood and just feel very confident about myself. This is everything that you look for in the perfect scent. It is sweet, sexy, but elegant, and most importantly long lasting. For me any perfume can smell great, but if it doesn't last or hold then it is a bust. You MUST try this if you haven't, you won't be dissapointed.

I bought this some years ago looking for a "romantic" or "girly" floral because all of my fragrances tend to be mildly spicy and unisex in nature. In the store it smelled really nice.but once I got it home I realized that I have a hard time with roses. This turn into a sour babypee-like monstrosity on me. I gave it to my niece and when I saw her again I asked what she was wearing it was RL Romance!!! She smelled exactly what drew me to buy it in the first place. Really pretty, romantic and feminine. I gave her my DG Rose The One also . . . i'm still looking for a floral that works for me

Personally,I find this scent quite overpowering and headache inducing. A strong floral.
However, having bought this a couple of years ago...to smell it brings back some memories of my younger teenage years. I will definitely keep the bottle and its remaining contents, as I am a very sentimental individual. :)

It's a girly girls, love in the air sorta scent..but not so special..the first spray just comes out harsh n more alcohol like, takes time to settle I guess..like all love affairs driven long... U will loose interest eventually ;)

I got a sample of this EDP and woah, I never hated a fragrance so much. This is way too old for my liking and it is so strong that it give me itches which is like a miss for me.

I never really wore this after one try, and tried spritzing in the air just to get a relative idea on why I hated it. One whiff, and I know my nose couldn't take it because it's really overwhelming and sharp.

Definitely not purchasing it.

I was given this as a gift, so had no idea what to expect from it. It's a pleasant scent, but definitely nothing special. It is VERY floral and girly so not one for those who like something a bit more interesting. The top notes are quite harsh, but after about 1 hour of dry down, it settles into a nice springy sort of smell.

In terms of wearability, because it's quite generic, it works well both as an evening and a day scent. I would not repurchase however, as ultimately it feels a bit too commercial for my taste.

This is a timeless, beautiful, floral scent. I never get tired of smelling myself when I wear this, and I usually tire of perfumes quite quickly.
I'll continue to buy this again and again! It has such a clean scent and is not at all overpowering.

I second the reviews before: first spray is harsh and it kind of smell like old lady for the next hour (though i still love the involving smell, that sends me to dreaming awake). Then, it becomes the most romantic floral fragrance possible. My fiance hated it when i applied, a few hours late he sniffed me and complimented on how great i smelled! Lol...

Packaging is boring. Scent works for me... I've worn it on a regular basis for nearly 10 years now. I fell in love with in while I was in high school and I still love it. It doesn't come across as overly floral on me... and I don't get the comparison to Estee Lauder perfumes (every one of those I've ever tried has smelled like old lady to me). It is slightly aquatic as are most scents I like.

This scent is a rather pleasant scent actually. Though the initial spray does have a strong alcohol scent; it does calm down to quite a pleasant and soft linen scent. Of course with the clean smell it is accompanied by some heavy floral smells. This is very comparable to the Estee Lauder, actually my mother had mistaken it for her perfume and thought I borrowed it without permission. But this Ralph Lauren one is better in the aspect of design because of the simplicity of the rectangular glass bottle. Which does prove it's simplicity as elegance. And the for those like myself with a trickier and heavier body chemistry, I do recommend spraying this fragrance LIGHTLY and sparingly on clothing and use the roller-ball for the back of the ears and the wrist, where the scent isn't too strong. Then it'll stay true to the scent of the bottle. If not, once the fragrance is mixed with the body's chemistry, it can give off a sour and nauseating smell that people seem to complain about. Overall, I have no regrets of trading in this perfume. I have a very big problem with sweet scents that make my head hurt, or spicy notes that burns my nose. This is very clean and when I mean clean I mean a lot cleaner than fragrances such as Jennifer Aniston or Philosophy's Amazing Grace/Pure Grace collection. So for those who give up on girly sugary, powdery or fruity scents, this would be a nice one to switch to.

I'm stunned at all the positive comments here. I was perfume shopping and wanted something more mature so had a test spray of this and continued shopping but really liked the smell on my wrist so when I was leaving town I bought a small bottle. From that first spray I instantly regreted it, it smelt like a cheap old lady perfume. I waited and hoped for a change but it was actually repulsing me. When I got home my boyfriend said "why do you smell like an old woman??"
I really wanted to love it but I can't say anything nice about it EXCEPT it has amazing staying power-even after a shower I couldn't get rid of the smell fully!! If you like it then consider that a plus, it wasn't overbearing reeeally I think I just noticed it more because I really didn't like it.
If you don't like overly floral scents then steer well clear of this.

My all time favourite scent to wear for any occassion and any season. There's a reason I just keep coming back to this perfume. I've gotten so many compliments on it and it's just an amazing scent. Not too powdery, or floral, or musky or heavy.

It's light, summery, and just makes me feel gorgeous.
