I've used Korean BB creams in the past (skin79 gold in particular) so i got a couple samples of this to see how the American brands compare. The only issue i had with the skin79 pink and gold creams is that they leaned the slightest bit too pink for my medium pale skin with yellow undertones.

I got samples of the Tarte bb clay in:
Light-Medium ("for light complexions with beige undertones")
Light ("for light complexions with yellow undertones")

I found that the Light color was a better match, and the Light-Medium skewed a tad dark and slightly orange on my skin.

As for the comparison, this was just as light and semi- transparent as the skin79 gold (since i like light natural coverage this was a plus) . The finish is dryer and more matte, though, and looks more like makeup. Also, it dries down and sets fast so fast its harder to spread around evenly.
So, overall i like the broader range of colors that Tarte offers but prefer the more dewey finish of skin79.

Pricewise, i think they're more or less comparable: 40g of skin79 ($30) vs 48g tarte ($35)

This is the best tinted moisturizer that I have ever used. I don't really like foundation because I hate looking cakey but I do like a little coverage for my face because I have a tendency to get a little red. I have tried many different tinted moisturizers including Laura Mercier's which is supposed to be one of the best ones. None of them have compared to this one. This actually provides coverage while being moisturizing. It doesn't dry out my skin or oxidize during the day. I am very fair an I wear the lightest shade, Ivory. I have repurchased this countless times and will continue to do so.

HG foundation! I love this foundation. I never thought I would be able to wear a liquid foundation because I breakout from everything and have tried everything from drugstore brands to BareMinerals to Dior. This foundation is it! It does not clog my pores, provides a perfect amount of coverage, and actually IMPROVES the condition of my skin. I would be happy with it just not breaking me out. However, this totally made my skin look better, which was a nice surprise. It's been hard to find lately. They better not be discontinuing it. None of their other foundations work for me at all. I've been using this one for about 2 years

I received a sample of this at Sephora, and I'm considering getting the full-size. The sample has lasted me a long time, so a little must go a long way. It's not heavy, but the coverage seems to be as good or better than many foundations without looking like you're wearing makeup. I either use an inexpensive ELF studio foundation brush or my knockoff Beauty Blender (the pink one from TJMaxx/Marshalls that Casey Holmes reviewed on YT a few years ago- can't remember the name) to blend. It seems to last about as long as all the other foundations and BB creams I've tried, and I haven't noticed a ton of oxidation.

Yikes!
This TM goes on so smoothly, covers well.
But then oxydized and made my skin itchy.
Then i broke out...
So no will not be purchasing again. Ever

I really like this bb cream, it has a really creamy, not-too-thick texture, that I really appreciate. it lasted the whole day and it still looks very natural and does not oxide. I mixed it with a drop of physicians formula illuminating argan oil and it made it apply even smoother, (my skin is kind of dry in fall/winter months) I applied with the real techniques sponge and it blended into my skin beautifully. I have the shade light medium, I may be a light shade in these months but since i don't want to bother with buying another shade, a pump of luminizer can lighten it up for me.

I LOVE Tarte products, but this one was not my favorite. I usually have very clear skin, but I noticed when I started using this, I was getting cystic acne, and even with powder over it, I would be oily very quickly. Very disappointed in this product. It also oxidized a lot.

I got a makeupalley login just to write a review about this! I use this every day and it is the best bb cream I have ever found! I use it with the ecotools bb cream brush, and it blends so well. If I'm going out, I will use about twice as much as a normal day, and it covers even better. I haven't gotten sunburned on my face since I used this as well (which I normally get hella sunburned all the time). Definitely recommend!

I love this stuff. I convinced my aunt and sister to get it (we're all different shades, ha!) and they love it, too. The hyaluronic acid, I suspect, is what keeps it from giving me that cakey look. And I LOVE that it's a mineral sunscreen. I wear the lightest shade and it's a TAD yellow on me, but it blends very well.

Light buildable coverage to medium. Keeps my skin moist but not oily. A little expensive. I will decide how much I miss it when its finished. Probably buy again because of the healthier ingredients.
