This smells great and it's an effective dry shampoo. Application is easy with a little practice. I use it sparingly and brush through. and it's not visible on my blonde hair.It adds lots of volume and grip, which I love since my hair is naturally very fine, silky and hard to style.I was really excited to find an alternative to dry shampoos in aerosol cans. They work well for me, but it they don't last long and have to be disposed of responsibly, which is a bit of a hassle where I live. Unfortunately this powder always makes my scalp itchy and sometimes creates unsightly flakes that look like dandruff in combination with some of my hair products. I ended up emptying the bottle out and filled it with a natural baby powder since the application is so much better with the stila bottle than the container it came in.

I've got a fringe, so this stuff is perfect for those in between wash days when my fringe needs a bit of a clean but the rest of my hair doesn't. Unlike spray dry shampoos, I really notice a difference with this. You do need to brush your hair really thoroughly after applying, otherwise you'll look like you're going grey (Stila's website says to work the product through with your fingers, which really doesn't work, especially if you have dark hair). Scent is pleasant, but not obtrusive.

The downside is that it does leave buildup on my scalp no matter how little I use or how much I brush it out.

I have tried many dry shampoos, and this one is by far the best. I used to think only spray ones are worth it, but I've changed my mind now that I'm using this.

The best way to use this IMO:

1) brush your hair
2) lift your hair in parts and squirt short puffs of the bottle holding it horizontally to each part that looks greasy
3) use either your hands or a towel to wipe through your hair
4) brush and style as you wish

I have dark hair and have noticed absolutely no powderiness like I do with other products. The scent is fresh and lingers just long enough for you to become convinced it was a good idea to skip washing your hair on a day you were feeling lazy.

I have healthy, shiny, straight asian hair...that can get a bit oily at the scalp if I don't wash it daily. I thought a hair refresher would be the answer. Well, I was wrong. This one gives me a gross white/grey cast that looks even worse than w/o it. The only positive is that it does SMELL good, but it just looks bad. :( Too bad...I was hoping that it'd work well.

this is my HG hair powder (i use both scents). i have medium brownish hair, and only when i use too much does it show. the smell is light and pleasant, and it doesn't leave a buildup in my hair when it's time to shampoo. i carry one in my purse and leave one at home. highly recommend.

I love this product! I have blonde, fine and long hair and this is perfect for me. This makes my hair feel and look clean and pretty. The scent is lovely and light.

Without this I would have to wash my hair every day. Now I can save my long hair ends and use this on some days instead of shampooing.

My hair is naturally curly, but I prefer to wear it straighten because it's easier to maintain. I use dry shampoo as a way to keep my hair clean and to refrain from having to wash and straighten it everyday.

I tried Ojon's dry shampoo and it was terrible. The product clogged the nozzle and I was only able to use it once. $11 down the drain. It was so bad; I won’t buy another dry shampoo in an aerosol can.

This product on the other hand is damn near perfect – albeit, quite pricey ($28).

The scent is pleasantly fresh - somewhat florally, somewhat cucumber-y. It’s so very light it's not noticeable after I’ve used it. The only way I can smell it is if I'm sniffing the bottle. I supposed if I were able to sniff the top of my head I'd be able to smell it, but then again, no one has ever commented on it, so I going to presume they are unable to smell it either.

While I do love the smell of this product, its best feature is the bottle. It’s akin to a condiment bottle – not a ketchup or mustard bottle, but the generic yellow=mustard / red=ketchup kind. It has a skinny pointed nozzle so the product can be applied with precision directly to the scalp with only a little squeeze of the bottle. No clogging possible. I have seen people spray dry shampoo all over their head (though, I’m not honestly certain why. If you’re one of those people, you may not care for this product), but I only use this on my scalp and the nozzle ensures that I don’t have powder all over my head.

My scalp feels cool after I put it on. I have to make certain to brush my hair quite thoroughly afterwards. By "thoroughly" I mean for several minutes - Marcia Brady "thoroughly", but I have jet-black hair. This stuff does give the hair some volume – not enough to make it a “volumizer” by any means, but it is noticeable.

Lastly, this stuff lasts for a very long time. I only apply it every two or three days because it sops up every bit of oil on the scalp – EVERY BIT. My hair feels so dry after I use it I want to put some kind of oil based moisturizer in it.

All and all, this is a great product – it’s certainly worth its selling price.

This smells light and clean and does not use talc (an unhealthy ingredient in a lot of dry shampoos). The packaging isn't as good as Oscar Blandi's and it can be a bit messy, but overall it effectively refreshes and scents unwashed hair and I would probably repurchase.

This smells AMAZING, the scent is a 'cool, green tea floral' and freshens your hair beautifully. It gives great matt-ish texture and volume, way better than any other dry shampoo/hair powder I've tried. The only reason this loses a lippie is because it's slightly annoying to apply. You are meant to squeeze the bottle so little puffs come out, but I find this isn't enough for me so usually end up putting some on my hands and raking it through my hair - it would be much easier if it was in a spray can like Batiste or Bumble&Bumbles. It has revolutionized my getting-ready routine - I only have to wash my hair every 2 or 3 days rather than every day, which was time consuming and damaging. I now prefer my hair on its second and third day to when it's just been washed and styled, cos it is fuller and easier to control with no flyaways :) Also, it's expensive but lasts for absolutely ages. Seriously, I think I will have this same bottle for over a year.

This product was a big disappointment to me. I've used it multiple times and am never happy with the results. I've used less/more thinking maybe the amount of the product I was putting on was the problem but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It just makes my hair feel gross and doesn't seem to add any body either. I don't like the scent either... strong floral that makes me nauseous. The one positive is that it does blend into my hair well. Just not worth the money.

I hate to be the one bad review here, but I just didnt think it was that great. left a white cast in hair- after multiple tries to get it right, still left a white cast. doesnt really add volume, which is fine, and the freshning quality of the product is mediocre. smell is wonderful, but thats the only positive I could say.

I have found another Holy Grail product. My hair gets limp and lifeless by the end of the day. All I have to do is sprinkle a little of this into the roots and *tada!*, new vibrant, fluffy hair. I also use this on the day after shampooing when I just don't have time to wash it. It amazingly brings the life back to my hair, even though, after sleeping on it it's straggly and lifeless and oily. I now just couldn't live without this product. HOW did I go so many years without it? It smells great, it has a strongish jade blossom scent when you add it to your hair but the scent dissipates within a few minutes as you brush your hair out, leaving a fresh, light floral scent. If you're looking for a good hair refresher, try this, you'll love it!

I've never used hair powder before but I have to admit that I really like this product. I have a somewhat oily scalp and I usually like to wash my hair everyday. This allows me to wash my hair every other day when I use it. I was torn between the two scents: Jade Blossom (floral green tea) and Creme Bouquet (powdery vanilla). They both smell terrific. I decided on the Jade Blossom b/c it smells more refreshing, which I think is nice when one is trying to cover up an oily scalp. I find that this hair powder works better than baby powder b/c baby powder can leave a greyish tint to my brown/black hair. The Stila powder disappears into my hair more quickly. I am curious about Bumble & Bumble's hair powder b/c they come in tints. I'll have to try that next, although I would repurchase Stila's powder.

I have to agree 100% with Aubergine 10. I like Stila's hair refresher much better than the B&B powder. I love the smell of the Jade Blossom, which lingers for a while but does not get overpowering or sickening. I really dislike the old ladyish floral scent of the B&B powder. And I also love how Stila's gets "invisible" in your hair and on the scalp (though it does mattify a bit), while B&B stains your scalp and hands.
My method of application: I squirt a bit of the powder into one hand, then I kind of flip the powder back and forth into my other hand until the palms an fingers of both hands are evenly coated with a thin layer of powder. Then I start from the back of my head and kind of brush my fingers and hands through my hair near to my scalp. I continue this process further up the back, and around both sides of my head (usually takes about 4-5 squirts of powder for my entire head), but I kind of avoid the top layer of hair so that it stays shiny. This way, the excess oil can be absorbed and the underlayers get a bit of lift, without making it too matte. I also use a bit of the powder at the ends of my side-swept bangs, which helps it to get some "grip" and stay to the side. All in all, I really love the product and pray that Stila never d/c it!

This is the best thing ever! I finally found something that works brilliantly to combat second-day oily roots.

I've tried the Bumble and Bumble powder, and the Stila is far, far better - the B&B powder's tint is actually a problem, since (if you're a brunette) it makes you look like you used that fake-hair spray from the late-night infomercials. The few times I used it, my scalp looked muddy-brown, and I had to wash my hair 4 times until the water ran clear. Also, it smells awful.

The Stila, on the other hand, smells divine and disappears into your hair. I noticed that other reviewers complained that it tints your hair gray. With a little bit of experimentation, I figured out that you can't tip the bottle upside down and pour the powder on your hair - instead, you hold the bottle horizontally and squeeze out puffs of Hair Refresher, which settles on your hair invisibly. It's like spraying perfume in the air and walking under the spray as the perfume descends - the result is a lot less concentrated.

Anyway, a couple of puffs refreshes all my roots, and it lasts forever without needing reapplication. The only downside is that your scalp may get a little dried out after a while, but it normalizes as soon as you wash your hair, and honestly, the temporary dryness is well worth it!

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the price is perfectly fine, considering how long one bottle lasts. I have long hair, and I use this stuff a couple of times a week. So far, my original bottle has lasted me for 13 months, and there's still quite a bit left.

I have been using this for over a year now, and am absolutely in love with it! I have very fine, thin, oily-prone blond hair that I wash daily. I usually wash my hair around 6:00a.m. before work, and by the time I leave work in the late afternoon, it is beginning to look oily in the front and around the roots. I carry my Hair Refresher with me, and if I am headed out for dinner or drinks after work, I just apply a little to the problem areas of my hair, and it looks freshly washed again! When I have a late night out with my friends, I apply it once or twice throughout the night, and it helps to keep my hair from looking greasy and flat. LOVE IT! My hair is way to oily to go without washing, but if I am going to be somewhere where I can't wash it in the morning (camping, etc) then this helps to keep my hari from looking really oily. I just put some on the front and roots, brush my hair, and pull into a ponytail. Really makes a night and day difference. It lasts forever! I'm still on the same bottle I bought last year. A little goes quite a long way. There is no doubt that I will repurchase. I cannot go without this product. I would highly reccomend for people who are constantly battling oily hair and scalp. This is the relief you have been looking for!!

This product doesn't do much for my hair.

pros: 1. smells really nice and does a good job covering that yucky smell, 2. turns clear very fast, I have black hair and it didn't make my hair gray

cons: 1. doesn't cover up the oil well, 2. I tried regular baby powder and found that it does the exact same thing

Not worth the price.

I am in LOOOVE! I really hate washing my hair and having to dry it and everything, so much easier to get up and go if I don't. I used the hair refresher for the first time yesterday, in the afternoon (I had washed my hair that day) I just poured some directly onto my root areas and this morning when I woke up, my hair was NOT greasy and all flat like normal. It was full of volume and looked like it had just been washed. Now it's almost midnight of the first day without washing and it STILL looks just as fresh, I think I may even be able to go without washing TOMORROW!

I love it! And it smells great.

And I did discover after using it that you aren't supposed to just shake it or pour it out, you hold the bottle sideways and give it little squeezes and it "puffs" out. So awesome. I won't be without it again!

Oh yeah, as far as the price is concerned, it is pretty steep -- I know Bumble and Bumble has a hair powder, but I'm not sure how much theirs is. I WOULD pay $28 for this, but I wouldn't be happy about it. Luckily I work for stila and I have a huge discount, so it's cheap for me. ;)
EDIT 7/2/2005 -- I love this so much, can't live without it. Anyway, my scalp is less oily than it used to be, because I am no longer over washing my hair. I can go an extra day without washing and NOT use the hair powder anymore, because my scalp is balanced now. Yay.

I have been using this product for about 2 weeks and it is truly a miracle for my hair! I dislike washing my hair (medium length, highlighted) every day--this keeps the greasies at bay! The scent is beautiful, yet it doesn't last more than an hour or so. The main reason I use it is to kick up the volume and 'refresh' my hair--which it does. Love love love this product! Although, YMMV, per the other review!

I just love the smell of this stuff. It's yummy! I just bought this and only have used it once. I don't wash my hair everyday and I was looking for something that would make my long hair smell (and look) fresher. BTW, my hair is very long, highlighted and normal. I want to note that you don't want to overdue it with this product and have "dull" looking hair. **Edited** Sorry girls, after careful consideration, I've had to subtract a lippy. Although the smell is divine, it doesn't seem to negate the dirty hair smell. Too boot, my DH thought my hair looked dirtier usint this and a friend pointed out that a little too much made it a little "gray" toned and dull. I took off another lippy because of the price. US $28 for a 2.6oz bottle is a little steep!
