I bought the Acne Gel 2 which is the stronger formulation, my skin is bloody stubborn and I knew the stronger one would be best for me.

I had a face full of painful acne and used this product once a day, at night because I wouldn't want to try to cover it with make up.

It stings for a second but then it's fine.

My active acne has gone, some cystic acne deep under the skin has improved dramatically.

I exfoliate the next day to get rid of any flakiness, which has been very minimal.

Highly recommended product

My medical esthetician recommends me to use this with JM BP5% when I have acne breakouts. He said to use it in the morning before JM sunscreen. I have moderate acne to begin with and oily skin. I also use Glo Minerals foundation which I stopped recently due to color mistakes (the golden still looks kinda ashy on me altho I'm yellow Asian). So, I went back to Bare Escentuals new Golden Medium shade which is almost perfect with my skin tone. Anyway, I tried using this with makeup, but my mineral foundation doesn't look that good. It gives me kinda scrappy rough texture looking. It just doesn't blend well. The problem is, the acne gel has a high content of alcohol as their 1st ingredient. It can get drying as well. I only use this every other day at night time or during the day when I just stay at home with no makeup. Certainly a NO NO with foundation. Well, I'm not sure with liquid foundation, but I doubt it...it will gives you a little scaly scrappy surface. It's a great antiflammation, since it has glycolic acid, it kinda helps with my acne spots. I really think your should follow what JM said "Use it under professional care only". I made mistake with Bioglycolic clear lotion. Bought it without any consultation and I ended up not using the product, wasting money and it broke me out like crazy plus super drying. My esthetician didn't ever recommend me to use that product. Other JM item that I love and works is Bioglycolic cream in a jar as a night treatment, read my review. You will get more result if you use the treatments altogether. UPDATE: I almost finish the bottle and I pretty much like it. I only use it nightly, works great, not a miracle since I my acne is genetic and hormonal now (I'm 28). I prefer this over BP. BP can leave dark spots and I already have a lot on my face. I only use JM BP sometimes only. I'm looking forward to get Acne Gel 2.

This product works well in conjunction with Jan Marini's BP 5%. I have found that just the Acne Gel 1 by itself doesn't completely do the trick. I like the gel formula but be prepared for a slightly medicinal smell. It soaks in quickly and the smell disappates quickly too. I generally like the Jan Marini line for acne control. I have strayed a few times and tried other brands like ProActiv and always come back to JM.

This review is for acne gel II which is stronger. I like the fact that it can really do the job of getting rid of pimples real quick, but sometimes it leaves purpleish black marks if you use it twice a day, in probably 3 days consecutively. So I only use this to spot treat the pimple, once a day at night due to the blue colour of the gel and when the pimple has died down, I use other spot treatments. Also I have to really spot treat the pimple and cannot use it in a large area or apply it around the pimple as it will burn those areas and make it scabby.
However, if you use a q-tip on the pimple, it shouldnt be a problem.

Although this has a cap, I hate that I cannot control how much I squeeze as one pump can be too much, and when you pump the product out, theres a little dent in the dispenser thing which traps some of the gel so I need to wash that occassionally.

The price is reasonable as it comes in a huge bottle and I only need a tiny bit of it.

I would repurchase this and it could become my HG!

This is one of the few products that I repurchase. I don't want to like it so much (because of the blue color, sticky texture, and tendency to cause peeling), but it works so well as a spot treatment. I am willing to put up with the slight peeling in order to get rid of acne quickly. For me, if I use this as soon as I feel a zit, it usually eliminates it overnight. If I use it on acne that has already formed, it lessens swelling, pain, and redness. I wouldn't use this over large areas of the skin unless you had to because some are sensitive and will peel. Remember to moisturize and to use a gentle scrub a few days after you use it to get rid of peeling and dry skin. It also seems to lessen red marks.

This is for the Acne Treatment Gel II. My friends review below mine is for the II as well FYI. To clarify, "Acne Gel I is half the strength of Acne Gel II. However, either strength is very potent. Therefore, it is recommended to begin with Acne Gel I and later increase to Acne Gell II if necessary", but both have the same ingredients:

Salicylic Acid, SD Alcohol 40B, Deionized Water, Glycolic Acid (Partially neutralized with Ammonium Hydroxide) Sorbitol, Acrylates Copolymer, Hydroxypropylcellulose, Lavender Essential Oil, Chamomile Essential Oil, Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer, F D & C Blue #1

I got this free from my bf's mom and I didn't know there were 2 diff kinds or that the one I had was the strong one. I started using this everynight on all my face and then as a spot treatment for body zits. After a week or two I started to peel on my face. I am sensitive to AHA's and this product finally convinced me of that. Which is sad because I loved how it cleared my complexion and made me glow. But, as a spot treatment for me, it is HG. The skin on my body can tolerate the AHA's in this, so it works great. Zaps most zits overnight for me. I use this on my face sparingly and only for spot treatment now too. Both are packaged the same in a plastic clear pump bottle. The product is a blue gel that has an odd smell that goes away after applied, it doesn't bother me though. Also, When I used it all over my face it tended to sting a lot, which I guess is normal for AHA products, but just to warn everyone. I have oily skin. I'm not sure what retail is for this, but I've seen it online for $37, maybe you could find it cheaper. It's steep for an acne gel, but it works fantastic for me and since I use it sparingly it lasts a while. Most likely I will purchase one when I run out.

This was probably the worst thing I have ever put on my skin. I didn't know I was so irritated by alcohol. This burned and stung and made my eyes water. I rinsed this off almost immediatly rinsed it off, but the reaction caused breakouts for over a week. This product is super strong in alcohol! Do not go near it if you have sensitive skin, or even dry skin. Bad Jan Marini! Im sure the GA didnt help either. My skin dried out and peeled and I will never go near this product again!

This is a glycolic/salicylic acid acne treatment gel, in an alcohol base. If alcohol irritates you, stay away, but this is a highly effective spot treatment for acne. It zapped a nascent zit on my chin overnight. Use sparingly, though, and be warned that if you put another product over it right away it may 'ball up.' To avoid this problem I use it only as a spot treatment, or on larger areas at night. I don't know the concentrations of the active ingredients, sorry! I got this a as a GWP when I bought the JM Bioclear lotion from Essential Day Spa. They work great together to keep pores clear and zap zits before they get out of control. It's a gel consistency that is clear blue in color. Dries clear though.
