Is it me, or have the Roger & Gallet floral soaps lost some of their power? I recently bought Carnation (my favorite soap ever) lily of the valley and almond blossom and all were very weak. I used to use them as sachets, now I open my linen closet and all I smell is linen. These soaps used to perfume the bathroom after use, now the scent is overpowered by toothpaste. What gives?

I agree with luckygirl322. The scent is gorgeous, the soap is very drying.

I'm old-fashioned in many respects, one of which is my preference for bars of soap over shower gels. I love a good soap, and Roger & Gallet Carnation is one of my favorites. It's very well-perfumed with a spicy, clovey carnation scent, and the lather is nice and creamy. Even the wrappers are well-scented. I tuck them into my drawers and use them as sachets.

Wonderful soap that smells fresh and has a beautiful carnation scent. Soap lasts a long time and smells wonderful for man, woman, child and beast. But then again. .. most of R&G soaps smell great. Carnation by far is my favorite though.

Smells amazing, I don't use soap but for this one I'll make an exception. A warm & spicy, sexy carnation with a hint of a soapy, powdery undertone (because it's soap, I'm guessing). This soap does a good job of cleansing, lasts a long time, and makes my skin feel soft.

A good friend of mine gave me a bar of this soap as a gift from her trip to France many years ago. I absolutely loved it: the scent, rich luxurious lather, packaging. I had it for a long time, like a little treasure, saving it for special moments. We were both students and this soap was a piece of luxury I really enjoyed. I forgot about it for a long time until recently I saw it at some store. I had to get it. And it's exactly as I remembered it, and unlike many other soaps it does leave my skin moist. The scent is sooo warm. Mhmmm.... I want to go & use it now!

I'm going to be the first to mess up this product's perfect rating...this makes me sad, because these are very nice soaps.
The scent is perfect, a rich, warm, TRUE carnation scent...smells like the pinks my Grandmother used to have in her garden. Love this scent!
The packaging is so pretty...peachy-pink and green art-nouveau box, each soap nestled in it's own silk tissue, opening the box is like opening a lovely box of bonbons.
My low rating comes from the soap itself...it is drying to my skin, and it leaves a nasty layer of soap curd and scum all over my tub...YUCK! I've moved my soap to the sink, and out of the bathtub, because it's truly unplesant to use in the tub. (Please keep in mind that I have very hard water...you might not have this problem at all if you have nice, soft water!).
Even though I cannot give this product a perfect rating, if you love carnation scents, you owe it to yourself to get your hands on these soaps! I SO wish there was a lotion and perfume in a matching scent!

Pure luxury. I forget about these soaps every once in a while, but for a little golden edge to everyday life there isn't much that can beat them; the quality of the soap, the scents, the packaging... and as a lover of spice, especially clove, I find this soap completely irresistible.

I normally don't buy bar soaps because they dry out my skin, but when a lovely MUA swapper (thanks, kealle!) was nice enough to include two bars of Roger & Gallet soap in my package, I had to try them. I started with the Carnation because I adore the carnation note in Apres L'Ondee, and much to my surprise, my skin hasn't dried out at all! The spicy carnation scent doesn't really linger on my skin after a bath, but the bar is making my bathroom smell wonderful. I can't wait to try my bar of Vetyver now!

Love, love, love this soap. Yes, it's expensive, and the creamy texture is lovely but about the same as other top-of-the-line soaps. What sets this apart is the wonderful carnation fragrance. For those who haven't tried it, carnations smell almost more like a spice than a flower -- even my boyfriend had no objection to showering with this soap. It's just a perfect, subtle scent on your skin. I would kill for a perfume exactly like this!

Yup. Not cheap. A 5.3 oz bar runs either ~7 bucks in a box set or ~9 prepackaged in a travel kit. But, wow, great quality soaps. The scent is true carnation, and while maybe strong when smelling it wafting right out of the box, is perfectly balanced such that when you use it the scent doesn't overwhelm or become cloyingly floral. Even more amazing is that afterwards, when the bar's sitting in its dish, the aroma fills my bathroom. I bought these on a whim from Merz Apothecary, and I have to say I'm impressed. Had I more money I'd try more soaps and would buy again.

I love these gorgeous spicy carnation soaps - the fragrance is delicious and very long-lasting, which makes them ideal for scenting lingerie drawers. The quality of the soap is high, and one bar lasts for ages. Packaging is also lovely, especially the pretty storage pots the largers soaps come in. Not cheap, but regularly on sale after Christmas, and a nice everyday indulgence.

Absolutely gorgeous packaging distinguishes these elegant soaps. Not to mention the fact that her majesty the Queen endorses this brand. The scent is definitely carnation and very beautiful, it's like standing over a vase of carnations, slightly spicy, floral, so pretty. Wow is all I can say !!!!!!
