First off, this product is NOT the smelly T/Gel (which is listed in the 'Treatment' section of MUA).

I used the original (smelly coal tar) T/Gel for years until this version for dry hair came out. I much prefer this newer version for dry hair as the smell is far preferable (a bit like cucumber or something mild), and it does leave my hair in better condition than the original did. I have used it several times a week for the last ten years or so, and it has kept my scalp in good condition, barring a few times in winter when it has been really cold outside.

If you have tried the old one and hated the smell but found that it did work, don't be afraid to give this one a try. I couldn't live without it.

The active ingredient in this dandruff shampoo is 0.5% coal tar, which is one of the ingredients used in anti-dandruff shampoos. It works fine, but I cannot rely solely on this product as I must rotate dandruff shampoos as to not lose effectiveness.

I'm not sure how much this product did for my dandruff, but I couldn't stand to use it because of the smell! It reminds me of gasoline, and it lingered on my hair even after another shower the next day.

I bought this shampoo because I developed a flakey scalp due to severe sinus allergies. It does cleanse pretty good, isn't harsh/drying, and good for daily use. However, it doesn't really control dandruff that great and smells weird. I do like it though and keep using it.

Best Dandruff shampoo ever!!! I have been using this product off and on for years. I only have to use it once or twice a week in the summer but more often in the winter. It's smell is gentle compared to other dandruff shampoos like Polytar (my dad's remedy for dandruff) and you get used to it. The trick to any dandruff shampoo is massaging into your scalp with your fingertips and not scratching with your nails. Also, let it sit for a couple of minutes before rinsing. I would also recommend using the T/Gel conditioner.

I bought this shampoo because I got an itchy scalp recently, I have been using herbal essences hello hidration for a while, but my scalp didn't tolerate it anymore and it started to itch. so I had a go at this shampoo, based on the instructions on the product. it smells very badly, but considering this is a medicated shampoo, it's ok. the consistency is a thick gel, you didn't need a lot of it to do the job. but it didn't work for me, my scalp is still itchy. i have medium curly hair. though it's stated that you should see results within six weeks, it's been three weeks already and no results. i will use the whole bottle but will not repurchase again.

I've had dandruff since I was a child, so I've been using this on/off for almost 10 years. Funnily enough I was recommended this from my grandpa. Anyway, I don't believe it completely gets rid of my dandruff but it controls it so well, actually it's the best product I've used for itchy/dandruff scalp. I've used a whole lot of medicinal shampoos that were over the counter purchases as well as cheap anti-dandruff but none of them did the trick, in fact some (head&shoulders) worsen my condition. My dandruff is a seasonal thing. A few months ago I decided to try out some new organic shampoos which worked well for a few weeks but my scalp became so itchy. So I've just returned to my t/gel and it's not itchy anymore! Shampoo for dandruff is definitely a personal thing, but I recommend this for people who've tried almost everything. By the way, this has an extremely strong odour (like tar?), which I've grown to like.

My stylist recommended this shampoo. I have dermatitis in my face and scalp. With regular use, it keeps my scalp and face clear. If you've ever had visible dermatitis you're so desparate to find a cure, you could care less about the smell.

I follow the T- Gel shampoo, with my regular shampoo and conditioner and I have no lingering smells. I have been using this weekly for years and have had no problems.

Couldn't use this more than once because of the smell. It really is horrid, and it lingered in my hair until the next shampoo! No thank you.

Tried this a few times and instead of helping, it seemed to irritate the condition and make it far worse. The smell is bad too. Switched to Head & Shoulders Ocean Breeze and it's worked wonderfully

I was hoping this would control dandruff on my scalp since I was little afraid of using Nizoral for long term..oh boy what a waste of money, after one time of usage, the dandruff was still there sitting minding its own business on my scalp. I finally use this shampoo to wash my bras :o

It smells bad, and the smell lasts for a few days at the least. Since it has methanol in it, it is very tingly and cooling. I washed my hair at night and it worked...until the next morning.

Smells horrible and does nothing. I tried this as an attempt to get rid of my horrible dandruff and it didn't even do as well as head and shoulders. I also agree with a previous comment that it is reminiscent of dog shampoo.

I used this shampoo for years because my dad used it. It didn't do any harm, but it's formula does basically nothing for my head. It works great on my dad though.
Anyhow, my dandruff reduced a tiny bit, and my oily scalp was controlled. The tar smell actually mixed well with my natural scent, so people complimented me which was strange and uncommon. It worked better than Head and Shoulders for me.
Now I use Nizoral or Jason's Tea Tree Shampoo. They are better at reducing my dandruff, but they are causing other issues which I just combat with other products.
It works great for some, just not for others.

I have seborrheic dermatitis, as well. My brother recommended this as the only thing that works decently, so I bought a bottle. This smells bad, like tar, but it works. I scrub this into my scalp and leave it a few minutes, then follow up with my usual shampoo and conditioner. I don't use this every time I shampoo, maybe every 2-3 times. I don't know how this is for my hair, since I try to use it just on the skin. For the scalp, it definitely works. As unglamorous as this stinky stuff is, I'll buy it again.

I have seborrheic dermatitis and have been trying to control it with Head and Shoulders. It (H&S) quit working for me, so I bought this out of desperation, and it seems to be doing the trick! I hate the smell, it smells like an old man to me, and the scent seems to linger, but I am willing to deal with that if it means that my scalp doesn't itch and flake all over the place.

I applied it just to my roots and tried to keep it out of the rest of my hair as I could feel how drying it was. I use a good strong conditioner, and will have to start deep conditioning every once in a while so my hair doesn't turn into a pile of straw.

I'm taking one lippie off for the smell and for how dry it left my hair, but it is still worth it for me. If my luck with this changes, I'll be sure to edit this review.

edit: I am only using this about once a month, and it really seems to be keeping my itchies at bay. If it keeps working, I'll keep buying!
