this works great for me as a night time spot treatment! i haven't found it to be overly drying, but like i said, i don't apply all over my face. i started getting big zits in my 20's (why??) but since i started using this, i haven't had anything truly hideous. i only use it on my nose, chin + anywhere a pimple seems to be forming. too bad i can't use it during the day b/c it can dry into a light white powder that balls up under other products. would buy again, except this will last me years as a spot treatment.

I first used this along with the cleanser and astringent, and during those times it did clear up my acne's but I noticed that after I stopped using it, my acne's came back (till now I'm still struggling with this problem) So I tried buying this moisturizer again with the cleanser, not with the astringent this time cause I wanted to try the Glycolic Acid Toner from Mario Badescu. This moisturizer stings as it did before but also it helped drying up my acne's but it really stings! Also it gave me redness and "allergic reaction" (i guess you can call it that) around the corners of my nose. I tried putting it only on the areas where I have acne's and are oily, I stopped putting it around the corners of my nose when I got that reaction. All in all it's good in drying up my acne's but once you stopped using it, it doesn't last long, your acne's might come back, I think you need to use it continuously. If you have sensitive - acne prone skin be sure to know the parts where to put this on or else you might get the same irritations as I have.

The very first time I used this product, I felt like it mattified the skin really well, and I was impressed. Like other reviewers have posted, the effects wear off quite quickly though. Fortunately, I only had a sample, so I didn't have to spend any money. Interestingly, the saleslady at the Kiehl's counter said that this moisturizer is very "strong," and best suited for people who have accutane-level acne. She said for my (anywhere from 5-10) isolated pimples, the moisturizer is total overkill. I'm not sure how right she is, but combined with it's kind of weird smell, and high price, I won't be buying this moisturizer.

so far so good, it hasnt made me breakout and it seems to be helping with the breakouts that i did have on my face. this moisturizer wasnt made to perform miracles, and im not expecting it to. it does what it says, makes your skin matte, helps control breakouts, etc. packaging is great, i just toss it in my purse if im in a hurry.... i switched all my skincare over to kiehls and i already can see a big improvement in my skin. so far i like it :)
edit: affects wore off...i started to get more and more pimples each day.....unfortunately i had to return this....

My problem with this moisturizer is that it was expensive and unimpressive.
I saw absolutely no changes to my skin at all for the better, infact I think it cause a few breakouts during the time I was using it.
I only used this at night as a night moisturizer, and the reason for that is I dont think it has SPF which no good for day use here in Australia.
The product smelt abit funny which I hate, and everytime I apply soo much and yet I feel as though it never enough cause my face is still soo dry.

I really wanted to like this products. I was looking for something to use at night that wouldn't leave me oily 10min after washing my face and sadly this is not it. I washed my face as usual then put a small amount of this on and within a min or 2 felt like I had a coating of something on my face! My face was tight and dirty feeling. I thought that since my skin is generally pretty oily this wouldn't make me so dry but it did! I actually had to rewash my face and put on my normal Boots No 7 moisturizer because the tight, mask feeling never went away! I guess I will stick with my normal night moisturizer and return this one. It's too bad because Kiehls does make some good products and it definitely isn't a bad price, it's just not a good product for me.

Mattifying and moisturizing, this made my skin produce less oil. Could definitely see a difference between this and other moisturizers that are made for oily skins - after a couple of hours my skin was markedly less shiny and easily touched up with a blotter. And I have REALLY oily skin.
A little more expensive than your average drug store brands but considering the packaging is 100ml it'll last you close to a year - I've been using for 6 months now, twice a day and still have more than half left.
Worth it!

I have sensitive, blemish-prone combination skin (oily with some dryness) and am always on the lookout for a light moisturizer that :
1) has some skin-clearing properties (e.g. salicylic acid)
2) is lightweight (not pore-clogging)
3) is mattifying if possible
4) moisturizes....
According to the description on the tube, this Kiehls moisturizer has "salicylic acid and extracts of cinnamon bark and ginger root for oily, blemish-prone skin" so I was pretty excited to try it out. It is a pale blue cream-gel with a slightly antiseptic (not unpleasant) scent. Quite cosmetically elegant as it sinks in fast into the skin and does leave a matte finish. I didn't experience any of the problems other reviewers mentioned about the product balling up under makeup or leaving streaks.
Most unfortunately, however, this also stings - horribly! - on my sensitive skin. I have no idea why. I tried it several times, and the stinging sensation did not go away each time. This moisturizer is also not moisturizing enough, somehow. In fact, it left my skin feeling tight and irritated. There may be an ingredient in the cream to which I am sensitive/allergic, although I doubt it. I think it is just that this moisturizer is quite harsh, especially for people like myself with sensitive skin.
I switched to the Suki Balancing Day Lotion and it is my current HG! No stinging at all, and it moisturizes while leaving a decently matte finish.

If your skin is similar to mine, meaning that you really don't need a heavy oily moisturizer as your skin produces enough of it as is, then this will work for you.
I found that it dries quickly and leaves no residue, only drawback is that the smell isn't the nicest!
But it's well worth it!

I am rather surprised by some of the reviews that mentioned how this moisturizer balls up and clogs their pores. I tried a sample sachet after I had a breakout from using other incompatible products. My skin is now in a better condition even before the breakout and I am very happy with how it clears up my skin.
My face now feels very soft and smooth and this moisturizer sinks in quickly upon application and it doesn't leave any oily feeling. I am now planning to buy a tube as it really does work!

I actually like this moisturizer, although it is expensive... I have oily acne-prone skin, and this moisturizer makes the skin matt-looking at least throughout half of the day. I like that it doesn't dry out the skin too much, as these kinds of products usually do (containing salicylic acid and promising the matt look). I can wear this product during the warmer half of the year, but when the winter comes this is not moisturizing enough!
It gets a good rating because it minimizes pores and makes the skin look matt, but it is unfortunately too expensive to buy again......
Still worth trying! :)

This is a decent moisturizer for combo to oily acne-prones. This did not irritate my skin or worsen my acne but it did not improve my skin either. It did help a bit with oil-control, imparting my skin with a matte and velvet finish. However, this tended to ball up at times and did not seem to fully sink in to my skin. This was a problem since I only used this as a day moisturizer under my makeup. But all in all, an average moisturizer that may benefit oily skinned acne-prones.

If you have oily skin that doesn't require that much additional moisture, Kiehls Blue Herbal Moisturizer is the product for you, my friend.
While I don't use this product every day, it's the first thing I reach for on mornings when my skin is a bit more wonky than usual. I'm 33, and prefer to use a heavier moisturizer at night, but for young people or those with more problematic skin, this would probably be perfect both day and night.
It has a light, gel-like texture and needs to be rubbed in very quickly after application. About two minutes after you apply the product, your face will be totally matte and ready for makeup-application.
The smell is not fantastic (it's a bit medicinal), and this moisturizer is certainly not for everyone, but the price is fair and the product is better than good. Definitely give it a shot if you're considering buying.

Definitely matte, not heavy, does seem to moisturize
HOWEVER...
I don't know if it's because of its oil-free nature, but it seems to cause my skin to excrete excess sebum. I find that I have to blot by around 11 o'clock or noon, whereas when I use kukui nut oil as a moisturizer I can blot at around 2pm. Also I don't see much of an improvement in my skin. So, the matte effect is only temporary and comes with "revenge" (even more oil) and it doesn't diminish acne. Hmm. Sorry won't be repurchasing.

Pros: absolutely non-oily. Most moisturizers are too rich for my oily/combination skin, but this one gives a matte, velvety feel instead of a greasy feel. Also manages to do a decent job at oil control.
Cons: like some other reviewers mentioned, it doesn't sink into the skin very well and tends to leave a white, dry streak if you don't rub it in properly. I find that it rubs off easily as well, which is not what I want my moisturizer to do. Didn't seem to dramatically change or improve my skin, but I guess no one product is able to do that.

it mattifies which is good for oily skin. but i found that it mattified too much for me.. i had little white streaks on my face even after blending in the lotion. and even though my skin wasn't flaky, the residue made my face look dry. as i said in the other reviews, what doesn't work for me may end up being the best for someone else. good luck!

I got a sample of this stuff last time I was at Kiehl's and I must say that its one of the best moisturizers I've used for oily skin. It somehow manages to penetrate into my pores, leaving a nice glowy finish. I will purchase this next time I'm at the store. Although I wouldn't recommend this for dry skin as I don't think its moisturizing enough but for us oily skinned girls its 5 lippes. I can't wait to buy the full sized bottle.

I like this moisturizer alot as I have super super oily and acne-prone skin.I think it's good for super oily and acne-prone skin like mine, but maybe abit too drying for oily skin(very oily) as i have to admit like what others said, it maybe not be hydrating enough. But it does gives a matte appearance and it does not clog pores up.
