Best for removing product build up and mineral build up. I have tried a good bit of shampoos to ensure build up is removed. This has been the best so far. When my hair is normal it does not cause any problems but when I have damage it a bit drying so I follow with a really moisturizing conditioner.
When looking at products to remove build up you need to look for certain ingredients. Most importantly the product shouldn't have ingredients that will build up like oils, waxes and silicones.
Ones that get the job done in this product:
Sodium Myreth Sulfate - gentle cleanser compared to other sulfates can remove build up
Cocamidopropyl Betaine - gentle cleanser to avoid using several harsh cleansers
TEA Lauryl Sulfate- this is a harsh sulfate but works well to remove product build up
Witch Hazel Extract - is good for the scalp to help clean it balance it out
Disodium EDTA - it counteracts the adverse effects of hard water by binding with heavy metal ions

Has a nice citrus sweet smell. Not strong at all.

I don't use a clarifying shampoo too often because I don't use cones on my hair but this is my favorite for when I do clarify. It's the most gentle I've found since my beloved Aveda Detox was discontinued.

Wanted to see if I'd like this more than Redken Cleansing Cream. I don't. It's a good shampoo, cleanses thoroughly, pleasant grapefruit-y scent. I can tell it removes all product build-up, but it strips my hair a little too much I think. On days when I wash with this shampoo, my hair ends up a bit dried-out. Will finish the bottle but when it runs out, I'm going back to Redken Cleansing Cream.

Back in the mid-90s The Body Shop had a great grapefruit shampoo which I loved, and when I was searching for grapefruit shampoos in hopes of finding something similar, this one came up. This does smell nice and fresh, like pink grapefruit. It's a thick pink gel that lathers well and rinses clean. My one issue with it, is it tangles my hair quite a bit and I end up having to use way more conditioner on my fine hair than I would like, and I end up with flat hair. I use this only once in a while.

I don't use 'cones on my hair, but I still need to clarify every once in a while to remove buildup. I use a lot of stuff in my hair as leave-ins (babassu oil, aloe gel, and super-watered-down, cheap, 'cone free condish like Vo5 or Suave, to name a few) because my natural texture is somewhere between wavy and curly and tends to look poofy without something to weigh it down a bit. I usually CO-wash, which is gentle and wonderful for my wurly hair, but definitely not adequate to prevent buildup! I use this whenever my curls start to look less defined and my hair starts to feel a little damaged despite going about my regular routine the same as always, two telltale signs that it's time to clarify. For me this is about every 1.5 months.
Anyway, as far as the actual product, it is a clarifying shampoo! Which means that it makes my hair look fluffy and even more damaged afterward. But I know that it has done its job when I go back to my regular CO-wash and my hair falls in perfectly defined, impossibly soft ringlets. It would be nice if I could skip the bad hair day immediately afterward, but I've come to accept that that's just par for the course when it comes to clarifying. That being said, I really don't find this any less stripping than any other clarifying shampoo, so I have to say I'm pretty surprised that other reviewers have found this to be the case. To me this is just harsh sulfates with minimal other ingredients, just like Suave or Vo5 clarifying shampoos that cost 10 dollars less. I'm gonna try diluting it with water to make it more gentle but I don't plan to repurchase.

Love this shampoo. Hard water? Chemical services? Build up? This is the most effective clarifying shampoo I've used that doesnt strip my hair.

Smells like the sweetest, most delicious grapefruits ever!

The shampoo is the color of the inside of a ripe grapefruit and very thick and moisturizing, yet it takes all of the dirt, and buildup from cyclomethicones and dimethicones out of my hair.

It's strange because I have very long and thick mixed hair and when I shampoo the strands of my hair separate and fluff out, and go back to their natural curls. Then after I remove my curlers my hair is so very light and bouncy.

I guess that's because the products are washed away and only my natural oils are left. I could get away with using this every week but I choose to use it only once per month.

I paid $13 at Folica.com

My go to clarifying shampoo. Smells great and does the job without stripping hair. I use it about once or twice a month depending on how much I've done with my hair. Love it and will repurchase!

A great clarifying shampoo. It's gentle, doesn't strip color, and has a refreshing grapefruit scent. I use it about once a month, before a protein treatment.

I have finally found it! I have been wary of clarifying shampoos for the past two months because every time I have tried one, my lowlights fade! I use several styling products on my hair everyday, and need to use a clarifier. This is perfect! It got all the crap out of my hair but didn't dry it out and my color looks exactly the same, but shinier. Love this, will rebuy when I run out.

It's just mystical. I don't know how a clarifying shampoo is so amazingly effective, and gentle at the same time. So I had blonde hair, I dyed it blue black, it was very porous. Theres that general rule, you should wait two weeks to clarify. I didn't, used this, my color didn't budge. How does it do that?

This is a great product--my hair loves it. After clarifying I followed the procedure set forth by the wonderful Hair Board experts--a protein treatment (Redken Cat) and then K-Pak reconstructor. My hair is superfine but I have a lot (but not tons!) It looks wonderfully full, shiny. Respectfully submitted, colormepink

I gave this 4 stars because it leaves my hair on the dry side sometimes. I used it again today because my hair just seemed to lie really flat this week. Surprisingly, my hair is full, shiny and clean today. I don't use conditioner too often since my hair is fine. Seems even the lightest conditioner weighs it down sometimes. So, overall I'd give this chelating/clarifying shampoo a 4.5. It's gentle and effective. Definite repurchase. It's concentrated/thick (though not mentioned on the bottle). A little goes a long way.

This is pretty good and the price is reasonable. I have naturally slightly oily scalp. I used to shampoo my hair everyday before I started using this scalp purifying shampoo from other brands: Phyto and Fekkai. If I don't wash my hair everyday, most of the times my scalp itches and I can't sleep well during the night. I don't like that unwashed smelly hair, too, greasy roots. OK, Kenra doesn't dry out my locks. I recently permed my hair and I have dyed hair. My stylist used vegetable dyes tho, so it doesn't damage your hair. The only down side, Kenra makes my hair oily on the roots the next day. By 2nd day, it's worse of course. I prefer Purerology green bottle. But, then again it can strips out the color of your hair if you use it often. I read Kenra doesn't strip out your color, that's why I bought it. I wouldn't repurchase this.

This definately cleans hair well. I cannot not use it too often, because it will dry my dryness-prone hair out. So, I could never image using it daily. But I love to use this every few weeks as needed. Before this I always used Suave clarifying. I definately prefer this to that.

After using Aveda Detoxifier for years as my HG, I found myself at the mall, in need of a clarifying shampoo and no Aveda store in sight. I decided to try this after remembering that many MUAers love it. I picked it up for $12 (the Aveda is $9, so it's a bit more). However I'm not disappointed. It seems to clean very well, removing all build up. It isn't as drying as some other clarifying shampoos, but I definitely wouldn't recommend using daily (like the packaging says is ok to do). The smell is easy to describe: grapefruit. I haven't decided if I like this more than Aveda Detox or if I will re-buy. But I'll definitely use it up, happily.

So yeah i love this clarifying shampoo. Ive tried ACV, suave daily clarifying and pantene. The suave is okay but i was worried that it was not a CHELATING shampoo. I just like that just in case there are any mineral residue left. I have 4a/b hair and it gets my hair squeaky clean. I follow with Kenra MC and im good to go. Been using the liter size for 2 yrs now. I clarify about once a month or 2.

I could have sworn I've reviewed this before. Anyways, this is a great clarifier. Simple, short ingredient list, average price, and it smells really good too. I think it could be a little more deep cleaning, but to make up for that, it's really gentle. The bottle says that it can be used daily, and I almost think it's possible (almost because I'm not using anything marked as clarifying just in case). If you want something that cleans more, try Neutrogena's Anti-Residue Shampoo. I'm trying Nexxus Aloe Rid or Redken's Hair Cleansing Cream after this, but only because I like trying different brands.

This is my HG clarifying shampoo! Removes all traces of build-up, doesn't strip my hair, and has a pleasant grapefruit scent. Plus it's a nice pink color :) I've used this once a week for over two years, and my hair always looks great, never weighted down!
