This clay bar has been my favorite skincare item I've ever purchased. I am so glad I decided to splurge on it. I use it about 1-2x week and it has lasted me at least 6 month and I still have more than half of it left. This is why I don't think the price is too much, because it lasts so long. Whenever I am having a really bad breakout or a bad skin week I just use this bar and my skin clears up shortly after. I have very oily skin, so this bar doesn't dry me out instead it keeps my oil under control. It also does wonders for my black heads. If they are getting inflamed, I use this bar and they calm down. It is also very good for sensitive skin, I've never had a bad reaction to it.

I have been using this for about a week now nightly after my cleanser. Not entirely sure if it was my switch from my cleansers containing BHA to a mild cleanser and this clay or if it was the work of the clay entirely but my skin has not been this good in a long time. I have recently been breaking out with whiteheads and cystic-like acne around my jaw, but ever since I made the switch all has been dramatically decreasing. In order to use, I just use a spray water bottle on one end and rub on face. A little is a lot when it dries. The only problem I have is that I recently fell asleep with some on my face as a spot treatment; however, it was very difficult to take away with my cleanser and water. (Reason why I did not give 5 stars)

I love this product. It really helps to keep my skin under control. I use it a couple of times a week in the evening after washing my face. I moisten the bar, slather on a good amount, and let it dry on my face. Sometimes I leave it on for up to 30 minutes. It seems to really help with oil control, and makes my pores tighter. I have had the same bar for about a year, and it is not even halfway gone.

Picked this up at Sephora today been wanting to try it out. I should have read the reviews that this is a *ROYAL PAIN* to use. I do not prefer the bar method of application of all. You are supposed to moisten the bar and gently apply it to your face, this is very difficult as it dries all most immediately so you have to constantly re wet the bar to get a decent layer of this on your face.It feels like your rubbing a super dry mud brick on your face, I don't like the feeling of it. I will return it for the product that is in a tube, which is essentially the same product but with the ease of a creamy mask in a tube.I was expecting this to be creamy and easy to apply from the bar, NOT! This is way too expensive to be such a pain to use.

Amazing product but messy to use. I made a mess on the bathroom counter...
I think it's worth it to pay the extra $ for the one in the tube. It's hassle free! It's the same product but mixed with rosewater...

I wanted to try this bar, but NOT for $38 after finding out that it is ONLY Fuller's Earth, so I went to Zerbo's and bought a half pound of powder Fuller's Earth for less than $7. Storing in a beautiful glass jar. Now this I love. Wet your skin, put about 1/8 tsp into something you can add water to (little plastic cup or something), make a paste and apply to your face and let dry, 10-15 min and then uses as a scrub as you're rinsing off. So nice. Does not shrivel up and pulsate the way Aztec Healing bentonite clay does, they're different. I like them both. I will purchase plain old Fuller's Earth again when I run out. If I had money to burn, I'd buy the Fresh bar just because it's luxurious.
Fresh is laughing all the way to the bank on this one. Brilliant marketing.

This is by far the best skin care purchase I have ever made, i saw results by day 2, i used as a five minute mask both morning and night, saw a reduction in my redness around the nose and chin, pores looked smaller too, but skin felt sooo smooth, not drying at all. It is expensive but i think it will last me a good while, and plus cheaper than getting a facial and way better results! i absolutely love this bar and will repurchase

Unlike other clay masks in tubes and tubs, doesn't have a long list of ingredients with several other possibly sensitizing chemicals, oils, extracts, additives, fragrances PEGs or parabens. It's just a thin layer of clay alone. Pores are clean after.

This seems like one of those love it or hate it products. Or love it but hate the price tag. I do love this bar and will purchase it again. I know, $38 for basically what is a bar of dirt is steep. But if it works, it works and for as long as this bar will last, the per use cost isn't so bad.
I'm certainly no expert but I did take soil science in college and the properties of clay have a lot to do with the weather and water in a particular region. In other words, not all clays are created equal. I have used other clays and find them all to have benefits depending on their use. For some reason, this bar in particular has benefitted my skin. Perhaps I have been brainwashed by marketing, but I feel that my skin looks and feels better since I started using this product daily three weeks ago. And that's good enough for me.
I keep mine in a covered soap dish that is ventilated and only moisten one end to apply it to my dampened face before getting in the shower. Three weeks later, the bar hardly looks used at all. My acne and reddness has cleared up considerably and I feel great about the fact that this has been acheived without chemicals!

this product is AMAZING!!! and the review is coming from some one who had amazing skin and all of a sudden had terrible skin full of breakouts for nearly two years....tried everything out there from prescription medicine to birth control to clear skin to extremely high end products in order to get back my clear skin....but nothing worked in the long run...from the time i started using this product , i stopped using all prescription products and over the counter BP. All i used was this and fresh lemon juice. washed my face with it in the morning and at night rubbed it on the pimples and left over night. with 1 month and face cleared up and still clear. NOW, all i do is wash my face evry mornign with it and once a week use it as a mask. use it. trust me ...its SOOOOOOOOOO WORTH IT!!!!! using one bar everyday for 4 1/2 months and still half of it left. ...BTW< DONT go for fuller's earth...its not as good as this one. Where i come from , every household has it for beauty use...all that does is deep clean BUT nothing close to this one!

Bought this yesterday for my congested skin, and I will admit that after just one use last night, my skin does feel smoother and less congested. However after reading the review that mentioned you can buy the same exact clay at mountainroseherbs.com for way cheaper I checked out the site, 1 lb of Fuller's Earth for $7.50!! vs. 7.1 oz. Fresh Clay Bar for $38!!!!! Wow, less than half the amount for more than 5 times the price, what a f@$*in rip off! I ordered a pound of the Fullers Earth, plus a pound of French Green Clay, and a 0.5 oz bottle of organic tea tree oil, plus $10 for shipping and it was still under $38 ($32 to be exact..). As soon as my package from mountainroseherbs gets here the Fresh bar is going back to Sephora. I'm going to mix the powdered clay I ordered with some mineral water, mush it into a bar/ball and use it exactly the same way as the Fresh Clay bar. God I hate rip off products but thank god for Sephora's awesome return policy.

Used it for the first time ten minutes ago. And it does what it claims. I moistened my face and rubbed the bar against my face and let it dry for five minutes. The mask tightened my skin and made my pores appear smaller. I had a small pimple and it popped when i put the mask on. I am excited to see the results after continous use.
I don't know if I will spend $38 on the bar again but I may buy the aztec clay mask for a much cheaper alternative.

I'm really bummed about this product. I bought this because I had clogged pores and hormonal breakouts. Nothing was working so I read the reviews on this and bought it. It really didn't do anything, in fact I felt like It might have clogged my pores even more. I used it for a couple weeks. I tried it as a pimple spot treatment, a mask, used it morning and night as a wash/mask and none of it did a thing.

This bar is probably the best product i have ever purchased!
I have moderately sensitive skin that breaks out most of the time when i try new skincare or makeup products. I bought this bar on a whim after having suffered a hormonal breakout with two large cysts that had been eating away at my face for over three weeks with no sign of improvement...on top of that I tried lancome's teint idole foundation to cover these puppies and it gave me a bunch of surface breakouts (i usually use laura mercier mineral powder but just wanted to try something with a much heavier coverage). To say the least, my skin was NOT happy.
I put this on the first night that i bought it. It was easy to use and it felt like a normal clay mask. the next morning i was sooo surprised to see that my two giagantic cysts had formed to a head!! after three weeks of no change they had come right to the surface :)
On top of that most of my surface whiteheads had dimished to half their size.
I have now been using this for about 4 days. I use it in the morning as my cleanser, and i use it at night after i take off my makeup. I always let it dry for a few minutes before rising. All of my surface breakouts are pretty much non-existant, and my cysts are almost completely flat and the scars are starting to heal.
This product is drawing out all the little buggers that have been hiding below the surface. My combination skin is looking radiant and poreless, and this doesnt dehydrate me or dry me out. I cant wait to see what my skin looks like in a few weeks!
Would be nice if it came with a good soap dish.

I have dry, sensitive skin (eczema) and have been using this bar for a couple of months now. It was the smartest skincare purchase I have ever made. I get frequent flare ups on my face and was looking for something to somewhat suppress the patches and came across this. I had been using some Fresh products prior and was really pleased with them so I decided after reading some reviews I would buy the Umbrian Clay Bar. Like other reviewers have said, it does crack. I knew that before I bought it so that didn't surprise me. I just use it one piece at a time. I use it daily after cleansing my face and let it dry for a minute and rinse it off. My skin looks incredible. I rarely get the flare ups anymore on my face and have used it to treat other areas of my body that do. I still have over 3/4 of a bar left and I bought this bar over 2 months ago so I feel that it is a good value even though it is almost $40/bar.

It is expensive but the bar is big and will last you quite some time. I use it as a face mask and it shrinks my pores to nothing and they stay like that for the rest of the day. I will usually apply it on my nose and sleep in it overnight...my boyfriend doesn't mind, lol.
It does take some getting used to since it is a bar shape that does not foam or lather, you just kind of wet it and whatever wetness comes off of it, you smear on your face.
At first it feels like nothing but when it dries you will feel and see how much is actually on your face. I reach for this on really humid days when my face feels sweaty and congested. I broke the bar into 3 pieces which makes it much easier to use and I think it wastes less at a time.

Based on the positive reviews here, I mustered the will to buy the $38 piece of clay at my local sephora. I would never buy this again even though I didn't hate it. It still only deserves one star for unfulfilled promises and difficulty of use (or more it's annoying to apply a product that doesn't event work). I've tried dabbing it onto pimples in hope that it would shrink or something. I tried convincing myself that this product was worth the money but it simply isn't.

This bar is ridiculously expensive, but works so well! I use a Biore strip, followed by this mask, followed by a comedone extractor & the gunk comes that survives the Biore strip & the mask easily comes out with the extractor.... The mask pulls the gunk out & leaves my pores looking teeny. I have normal to dry skin & I don't have trouble w/ blemishes. If I do get a hormonal breakout, I put a small amount of this on the zit & leave it on overnight. It shrinks it right down.
I think the easiest way to use the bar is: I put a little water in the palm of my hand & then rub the bar in it until it makes a thick paste. I just do that a few times until my face is covered.

Wow, who knew a skin care product could be so controversial? Regardless of its origin, I love this stuff. My skin is dry, but I have occasional breakouts and this bar clears them overnight. I apply a little at bedtime and wash it off in the morning. The pimples are gone and I'm left with soft smooth skin, no flakes! It's taken me 2 years to use half of it, so it will be awhile before I need to buy another, but I will definitely repurchase.

Hands down the best purifying mask on the market. I love how it has JUST ONE ingredient so you know exactly what and how much of it you're getting. (I think this is better than the Umbrian Clay Treatment that comes in a tube). I don't care where this product is or isn't from - I just care that it works. It will also last a long time so IMO the price is justified. Try it - it's awesome! :-)
