This is a really dark brown. It looks almost black, but softer. I do like the color. I read the dry/creamy debate below, and to me it's both. It picks up on your brush easily, but it does have a thick and dry consistency. There's no drag, but it's far from gliding across your lids. Definitely less easy to work with than MAC Fluidlines, but it's far easier to make a perfect line with too thanks to its thickness. The wear time on this stuff is amazing. When I came home exhausted and decided to just take a cleansing oil to my skin and skip my eyes to deal with them in the morning, it looked the same when I woke up and I ended up just leaving it on for the whole time. Great lasting power!

PROS
-This is the perfect shade of brown liner in my opinion. From a distance it may appear black on the eyes, but it's really quite a bit softer, yet still noticeable. I would describe the shade as a true dark chocolate brown.
-You get quite a bit of product for your money. Almost 50% more than you get with the gel liners from Smashbox, and for $2 cheaper.
-Very multi-purpose. Along with eyeliner, I've used this as contour cream (yup!), eyebrow filler and as a base for a brown smokey eye.
-Blends nicely. This liner can be used for harder, clean lines, or smudged with a brush for a soft, day-time appropriate smokey eye. The name really doesn't lie guys! But beware, you should blend this product as quickly as possible because once it dries, it doesn't BUDGE until you douse your eyes in makeup remover...Which brings me to my next point...
-Super long wearing. It goes on and STAYS on with zero fading, smudging, transferring or creasing.
As far as the texture goes, I'm not complaining. People whine when a liner is too dry and say that it should be "creamier", but what they don't realize is that creamier liners generally do not have the great lasting power that those with drier textures do. And this liner isn't that dry anyways. It picks up on a brush well and I have no problems using it. I can't comment on it drying up in the pot yet because I haven't had it that long and I don't use it very frequently (I usually use black liquid liner), but I will update if that happens. Just make sure to close the lid tightly after each use ladies!
Overall, Stila Smudge Pots are probably in my top 3 favorite gel liners. And this particular shade is great for women who want definition, but feel that black is too harsh.

I really liked the look of this but was a bit reluctant to try it as I had read that it is dry and there were complaint of it not being creamy enough. However, I really liked the look of it in the store so I decided to buy it and i'm so glad I did. The texture is really creamy, and I dont think for the amount that you get the price is bad either. I dont leave the house with out now and is a much more flattering shade than black, even though it is definately dark enough to get noticed. It is also really long wearing and doesn't even come off at the gym. I've even used it as a base under glitter eyeshadow and it works really well! over all I love this and I will def be buying another one when this one runs out :)

Love it. Applies like a dream. The prefect color, not harsh, like black can be. Yet dark enough that it's very noticable. I can control the intensity of color and the thickness of the line. I can even apply lightly to sparse spots in my brow, (I have black hair). I like it better than the MAC equivalent. I've had it for a week and I'm a happy camper, so I can't remark on the pot drying out, but I will update if that happens. As of now, I would so buy this again.

I liked this product while it was still useable, but it dried out rather fast (especially for $20). There was still a lot of product left in the pot when I had to toss it. I liked the color and texture; had no problems using it at all. It went on well and lasted all day long. Just very disappointed that it dried out in the pot so fast it wasn't a worthwhile purchase.

I love this as a gel liner! I use this with an eye liner brush I have from Ulta. I have used both MAC and Bobbi Brown gel liner, but I like this better. The consistency is good and this product doesn't dry out like the Bobbi Brown. Also, there is so much product it has lasted me for a while now. Will repurchase.

I don't know if it was because I bought this and it was already dried out, but every time I use this, the cream clumps up. I have a lot of trouble with this getting in my eyes and irritating my allergies. It was not easy to smudge, but it was fairly easy to apply. Within a couple months of buying this, it became to dried out and too clumpy to use anymore. I feel like I've been cheated out of my money with this expensive product. On the upside, it did last a long time and was tear-resistant.

I got the mini in a swap. I love it, the application is great. I use my ecotools brush with it and I can do it in one smooth line. It doesn't dry quickly, so it gives you lots of time to work and smudge nicely to give the feathered look. Even though it's suppose to smudge, I found that it actually hold up a lot better than other liners that I have tried. Anything that doesn't give me the panda eyes at the end of the night is a good liner.

I've tried cheap and expensive gel eyeliners both. Mostly I've had a really hard time with the liner smudging and being hard to apply. I have to say that this is the best I've probably used. It does tend to smudge a bit in the corners of my eyes by the end of the day, but that happens with any eyeliner I use and this does it less than the others. It also applies smoothly. I would definitely buy this again when I run out.
EDIT: After some time using this, it is DRY, DRY, DRY. Don't think I would repurchase after all.

My first purchase of this Smudge Pot was wonderful......I looooooved how it applied, very smooth and the staying power was amazing no smearing or fading....who knew. I didn't have any problems with it drying on me whatsoever. I actually used up all of the product in the container. My second purchase was a little different, it was fine but after I used it a handful of times it started to get dry.....really, really dry. I had to put a tiny amount of olive oil to actually use it. I would probably repurchase again but if it dried up on me again then I would definitely look for other alternatives. I would have given it 5 lippies if I had the same experience as my first S/P.

The brown smudge pot is perfect for every day. It's dark enough to appear black from far away, but light enough so that your eyes don't look so harshly lined up close. Of all the smudge pots that I own (I have black, bronze, golden noir, and brown), brown is my favorite because I can wear it everyday and know it will look great.
I am surprised with low ratings this has gotten. I am of medium-dark complexion, and this brown smudge pot shows up on me perfectly. I think one of the reviewers is thinking about the bronze smudge pot that came in a trio last year.
All in all, I would recommend this to everybody. It really is a product you must try.

After seeing Kandee Johnson's video on YouTube talking about the results you get from a gel liner, I bought the Stila in brown. I LOVE this liner because it goes on with amazing ease, stays on exactly as applied for many hours and when it starts to "wear off" (it doesn't actually wear off) after 12 or more hours, it looks slightly smokey...not worn, runny or anything that looks bad. It looks great no matter what. This is a very dark brown color, and for my light eyes and complexion, I will have to see if they have a lighter brown, which is simply my preference.
PROS:
- easy to apply
- stays moist in the jar (unlike some competitors)
- jar of product lasts a LONG time - a little goes a long way
- never wears off, smudges, runs
CONS:
- there are none
This is not an inexpensive product. Since I was trying it out for the first time, I found it on Ebay (with a Stila eye liner brush) for $16.97 with free shipping. Even at full price, this product is a bargain.

I love this stuff!!!! Its the best eyeliner i've ever used. I don't know what people here are talking about with the dryness. To me its the perfect consistency to create perfectly lined eyes...but doesn't have the, 'drawn on with a marker look' that liquid liners do. This stuff turns out perfectly when you use an angled brush for application. Once its on and dry, its pretty much impossible to get off if you're only using a finger to rub at it. haha! But thats why its great..it lasts all day and doesn't smudge higher on your eyelid through a day of blinking. The color is just right also..very dark but not as harsh as black..soooo great!!

I think that the people that poorly reviewed this product, may have had trouble applying it. This was the first smudgepot that I ever purchased, and at first, I was like, this product sucks. The better I got at applying, the more I looked like a makeup artist had done my eye makeup.
I have dark skin, and the brown shows up well. It blends well, and lasts for hours.
Love it!

I used this as my eyebrow liner cause when i used it on my eyelid, it doesn't have much color to it cause i have brown skin.Perhaps it will look nice in pale or fairer skin tone. I got this in a package of 2 other colors smudge pot. It was in sale. :") I won't buy it again though.

I am holding most of stila smudge pot colours, but i am not happy about them, it got dries even if it is unused still in box..
It is easy to blend for me , unlike others i liked this product, the only thing makes me crazy is it gets dry so fast in the bottle,
once you look your product is still in a good condition the next day you may not find it like that..
i love the colours it has many colours that MAC, BB doesn't have like Jade..
I am still unsure will i buy these products again or not, it is bigger than MAC and BB ones.
if it doesn't dry up it very fast will be very long lasting..
i had 3 Stila pots was nearly dried up that i have to use mixing medium to bring them back to their old condition..

It's hard for me to review how this products worked since it was so dry that I was not able to get any color out of it at all! I used my small angled brush from MAC. I also tried with a wet brush, but it was still too dry, so I must have received an old product from the online store where I bought it. No matter what, it can not be a good quality if it dries out that fast and you will never get to use the whole product that you have paid for and what a shame. I was very disappointed and I would NOT repurchase this again.

Holy ouch. I have super sensitive eyes and am a contact wearer, so everytime I try a new eyeliner or mascara brand it's kind of a toss up. L'Oreal, NYC and NYX are my stand-bys. I don't have problems with MAC either, but I've only tried the kohl pencils and ehh, no staying power. Anyway, I've read such good things about this gel eyeliner that I was sooooo hopeful. Unfortunately, it was a nightmare. I wore it to work and now twelve hours later my eyes are stinging and dry... it went on really smoothly and is a little creamier and easier to apply than the HIP dupes. Unfortunately, besides the stinging it didn't stay put. Smudged all over and disappeared in spots as the day went on... Oh well, guess I'll try MAC's Fluidline next.

love, Love, LOVE this stuff! the color on the cap is a lightish brown, which is deceptive because the real color inside is the perfect brownish-black. applied with a fine brush (tip: i got a nice watercolor brush at Michael's, it's better quality and CHEAP) you have a choice of applying a very thin, barely-noticeable but still eye-enhancing outline, or you can thicken it a bit for a stronger look. you also have a choice of leaving the line smooth or smudging it a bit for a more natural look. it's somewhat blendable but still has a tenacity that makes it stick all day long. and when it wears off it still looks good, sort of that rocker-sexy look. also it's extremely long lasting. i've been using one pot for over a year now and it's still mostly full. i guess it does dry out on top after a while, but i just wet the brush before using and it hasn't been a problem.

This product works perfect for me. It is a high pigmented product and I like the variety of color Stila has. Has a soft creamy gel texture, that stays put long. I used liquid eyeliner for many years, but for many reasons I was not 100% happy, but this one, is gentle for my sensitive skin, easy to apply once you get the hand of it, and made my "cat eye" eyeline looking very define but not as hard as liquid eyeliner. I will buy again.
CONS & TIPS.- 1) The product will dry and get hard. Put small amount in a separate small pot , better made of glass (I use the small cream sample containers that Lancome gives as a gift with purchase) for your every day use and refill it by small portions. Keep the original container with the lid closed tightly, in a plastic bag storage in a dark cool place ( I have it under my sink). It will last very long. When the surface get hard, just poke it and underneath you find more soft product.
2) It takes some practice to apply it right. I couldn't get a thin line using an angled eyeliner brush. I have 2 of them in different sizes, they draw a line that is too thick for me and it doesn't look define and clean, as you want for cat eye lining. TIP use a bent eyeliner brush, that will give a smooth define thin line and make very easy to apply this product.
I hope this helps Helen031, the product you got, probably has been too long in the shelf. It shouldn't be hard, it should be creamy-gel .
