Lovely shade! It is a silvered tauped with a hint of lavender. The shimmer in the Chantecaille iridescent shadows is really quite subdued -- rather than a full-on shimmer, you get almost a crushed-pearl effect, and for this, I am appreciative. (I am in my 30's now, and like to look polished.)

Basalt looks beautiful to highlight the browbone, or as an overall shade. When used all over the lid, it pairs well with purples and blues (really like it with Tanzanite), and I find that it really brightens my dark brown eyes. I think it would also look stunning on blue-eyed or green-eyed girls.

Good lasting power - don't need a primer - pigmented, and just pretty!

Age: 44-55   Skin: Combination, Fair, Cool   Hair: Blond, Straight, Fine   Eyes: Blue

On my fair, pink-porcelain skin, Basalt (Lasting) is a soft pale greige with a hint of lavender. Though matte, the shadow is not flat or dusty. Very silky, easily blended, long lasting without creasing, Basalt looks gorgeous worn with other Chantecaille shadows, such as Sel, Granite, Quartz, Zinc, Peony, or Perle. On its own, it provides a very refined and elegant, yet natural, look. Chantecaille also offers Basalt in the Iridescent formulation, which I find to be slightly warmer but just as lovely. It is much less shimmery than Stila Cloud, which I cannot wear because it makes turns my eyelids into a mess. Basalt (Iridescent) makes my lids glow.

As I get older, I have begun editing the *colorful* colors I wear; I don't want anything too pigmented, too dark, too sparkly. I finally appreciate that Chantecaille is not heavily pigmented, so I can layer to the depth of color that I want.

These shadows are very high quality, and you actually get quite a lot in the pan compared to Chanel or Dior singles, which cost the same, so I disagree with ziebam, who writes the same review in most Chantecaille topics about it being a waste of money. Then again, makeup, especially high end, is a luxury item, not a necessity, so it depends on one's personal interpretation of waste. I don't find it wasteful in the slightest when I look like a better version of myself instead of a woman with a face full of makeup.

NW10/15, golden brown eyes, dark brown hair

On my skin Basalt is a silvered taupe, with just a tiny hint of taupe and perhaps a whisper of lavender.

Mainly it is useful as a silver wash. Preferred to Stila Cloud in its colour and packaging.

I have been wearing this as my wash with some dark liners and rose lips for my January look, and the result is a soft, wintery beauty.

Chantecaille e/s comes in hardy packaging, which is surprising to me since I associate the brand with a withering, pretty, ethereal kind of look. It's a great bonus.

Would definitely purchase again, but the amount of product is generous so I doubt I'll need to.

I am a PPP cool-toned, and surprsingly, Basalt has become an HG overall lid color. It is wearable, believable, flattering to my green eyes and blends well w/wo many other tones. It is very very slightly yellowish beige on, so it corrects those weird blue-purple-red veins on my delicate lids. I receive so many compliments whenever I wear this color, it's a shock. Definitely, if you're cool-toned pale lass, think of getting Basalt.

I was looking at the reviews I have done over the past couple of years and was shocked to discover that I have rarely reviewed any of the wonderful products I have purchased or swapped for from Chantecaille. I think because they are expensive I tend to save them for special occasions and don't usually have them in my purse - where most of my product reviews stem from. Basalt is my favorite every day eye shadow color. This color is a fairly sheer matte greyish-taupe color. This color is light but has alot of pigment and it only takes a couple of swipes with my eye shadow brush to give my blue eyes a my eyes but better look. The staying power is excellent. Like all Chantecaille products I like the elegant yet understated silver container with a mirror. If I ever run out of this eye shadow I will definitely repurchase.
