This is one of the best dirty musks in a perfume ever...it balances amazingly sweet, fluffy sugary musk with a dirty, harsh civety M.Ravageur note, making this the most feminine masculine frag!!
I adore it!!
Theo Fennel comes very clost to this, but whereas Theo is plain dirty, H.L. has some kind of sophisticated sweet nonchalance, which is waaaaaay better and more complex than Rodeiguez, T.Fennel, even M.Ravageur....sweet,rosy, honeyed, dirty, skanky musk that smells so sexy I could have its children!!sex in a bottle for sure....smells very, very guerlainesque (vintage L'Heure Bleu is very close to this...Vol de Nuit Evasion, Guet Apens too.....)
10/10

Now discontinued and very sorely missed by me....wanted to let others know that I've just found that Frederic Malle 'Musc Ravageur' comes pretty close - more powdery, but almost there. Love it!

It's taken me a while (years!) to "get" this fragrance. For the longest time the artemesia and herbs in this was too strong and clashed horribly with the powder note. Now that the fragrance has aged, I found it more musky, which is what I was looking for. It's very sweet and powdery and not quite as musky as I would like. To continue the t-shirt analogy, it's like one that has been washed in highly-scented floral detergent and then worn for an hour.

A gorg sexy musk fragrance which is unusual to receive inquisitive compliments. Shame the lasting power is not great on me (even the edp). Lovely simple bottle.

This musk fragrance is the best ever musk scent I have ever tried, very similar to Lorenzo Villoresi Musk. Seduction pure in its cleanliness, pureness and intimate nature. I never have enough of it, my HG!!!

A complex musky, sexy, clean scent. I always get compliments when I wear this. More complex than Narcisco Rodriquiz for Her.

Helmut Lang exceeds any musk I've ever tried. It plays many roles that you want a musk to play -- sexy, clean, naughty and settles into an incredible skin scent drydown. I can make a vigorous stretch of a comparison to Narcisco Rodriguez for Her (EdT), but Helmut Lang is more complex. Unlike Narcisco Rodriguez for Her Edt, Helmut Lang is defined as unisex and isn't as linear. What I really like most about Helmut Lang is that it has many layers of freshness from it's awesome herbal musk opening notes of Lavender, Rosemary and Artemisia to it's super clean out of the shower almost medicinal clean freshness that comes from the Viginian Cedarwood and floral middle notes including Orange Tree, Jasmine, Rose, Heliotrope and Lily of the Valley. It teases with notes than enhance the musk and can either come on strong or coyly. It fits my many moods and reasons to wear musk; as I find musk sometimes comforting and as other times to seduce and tease. Which brings me to the mellow drydown. Rich in vanilla, Indian Sandalwood, Indonesian Patchouli, and a Skin Accord -- It's sexy as a musk should be, but yet it still has that ability to be subtle. It's a 'no-brainer' scent. As another reviewer mentioned it doesn't konk you or anyone on the head, but it does blow me away. It's a really lovely scent fit for anyone who likes musk.

Helmut Lang EDP and Kiehl's are equal favourite musk fragrances for me. This is a very deceptive little number. Sweet and sexy skin musk with great staying power. Designed by Maurice Roucel, I like it better than Musc Ravageur because it can be worn anywhere, anytime. It has a clean wash throughout which apparently comes from rosemary, lavender and fresh cotton. It's a little bit dry from the cedar and this balances the dose of vanilla somewhat. I don't detect the patchouli specifically but the ambery dry down is beautiful. I see it's been compared to baby powder on many MUA reviews. I would agree that it's powdery but in a very adult way, not innocent or babyish at all. It's very gentle but provocative. It's soft and sensual and a little tease. I receive nearly as many compliments on this as I do when I'm wearing Kiehl's.

I love the bottle of the cologne and the cologne is nice. Is does remind me of baby oil but very light it also reminds me of. .. .a cookie.

the edp is funky, too heavy for me, too musky/fatty aldehyde laden.

The cologne is so subtle though. Was sad when I wore it out and sat next to someone I would have liked to waft something more exciting over to, like cdg palisander. this stuff is very private.

I also get some of what I call "high notes" through a lot of it, something very slightly minty.

the cologne reminds me of a very diluted lutens la myrrhe

I like it but not really enough to wear it, except maybe when I don't want to have much sillage, which isn't that often. I think it might be very nice for the gym though.

It's as though your natural smell is just sweetened a tiny bit.

I received this in a swap and am so happy I had the chance to try this! Helmut Lang reminds me so much of a scent from my childhood. Something you could find in the old Woolworth's drugstores. Something in a blue bottle similar in shape to the large L'air du Temps bottles - narrow neck, wide flowing sides, wider than tall, but not round, narrow. Gold cap. I've tried for eyars to remember what that scent was - I keep coming around to L'Heure Bleu, but I KNOW that's not the name of what I'm thinking of. It certainly wasn't anything high end - I bought it with my little girl allowance. La Reve Bleu? Who knows. Anyway, Helmut Lang takes me RIGHT to that scent - sort of clean, musk, vanilla, perhaps slightly soapy. A thick scent, like breathing in fluffy white down. Not heavy and cloying, but thick nonetheless. A scent you feel in your throat (not necessarily cough-inducing, just present) as well as perceive higher up in the nasal passages.

Very pretty, very gentle. I know my daughter will love this one. On my own skin, though, it's a bit sweeter than I care for, and I just cannot shake that childhood Bleu association.

After suffering from a bout of perfume schizophrenia...searching for the perfect summer-the temp is 90+ degrees and I need something light that last..., I dug this out of my stash and gave it another chance. Yup. This is it. Light, fresh and a bit musky ( in a good clean way) and it last !! Even my DH thought it was dee-lish. It is a very close to the skin scent, it is not going to konk anyone on the head as you walk by. I cannot stop sniffing myself!

Love the EDP!! I get musk, vanilla and a bit of anise with this one, but its done in a very 'clean skin' sort of way, if that makes any sense! Its a very warm, cozy & classy scent. I actually find myself reaching for this one when I'm not feeling well...it one of the only perfumes I can tolerate when I'm feeling ill.

Dreamstorm got this exactly right.... read below.

This was a huge and WONDERFUL surprise, as I received the bottle in a swap - unsniffed.

I am a lover of clean scents (as long as they last) - but not a lover of anything girlie. In reading all the reviews talking about baby-powder, I thought it would be a good scent to sample before bed.

How can I sleep - when I can't stop sniffing my arm!!?? AND... it passed my "can it make it all night" test - adn was STILL gorgeous in the morning!

I don't do musks - except Ravageur - so it's not too musky.... but it IS fresh and does turn soapy clean which I love.

I could see myself grabbing for this one - a LOT

This totally smells like baby powder on me. Straight baby powder. I'm not thinking I want to smell like baby powder so this won't be one I reach for too often. :(

I have gone through two bottles of this, and love it more and more everyday. I usually only wear it in the winter, and I find the scent to be cozy. I get so many compliments on it, and have gotten a few girlfriends hooked on it. I am not someone that wears a lot of perfume. I pick one summer scent, and one winter scent, and am often loyal for years. I have yet to find a summer perfume that lives up to this clean, classy and subtle smell.

For awhile I really liked this perfume. Then I had a craving for it whenever that time of the month rolled around, possibly because of the musk? Unlike some of the other reviewers, I can't smell any vanilla in this at all, I wish I could, because that sounds pretty nice! I think this EDP would smell really good on someone, just not necessarily me. Also, it's more for colder weather--in the summertime or in anyplace with lots of warm bodies, this could be overpowering and stifling. I'm glad I bought this to play with, but I won't be repurchasing.

Wonderful scent !!! I'd classify this as more of a comfort scent, at least to me. I actually don't get any of the top notes in this, or if so, they disappeared pronto. What I get mostly is a very comforting sandalwood scent, with a feel of added musk, with light vanilla to sweeten it all.

Nice. Has a baby-fresh quality to it and is a soft skin scent. The best musk type fragrance that I've tried.

Oh my -- the perfect dupe of Frederic Malle's Musc Ravageur. A warm, vanillic, dead sexy, spice-tinged musk, only without the deadly Malle price or the pesky exclusivity. Wow, what a find!!
EDIT: Okay, so not quite. It's a bit spicier and with a bit more green running through it. After a while it takes a turn to smell a bit "clean" unfortunately. Also it lasts nowhere as long =( Still an acceptable substitute though if you are strapped for cash I would say.
