Received this in a swap recently, and I don't know how helpful this review is going to be for people who were looking for a dark wine shade, because unlike the other reviewers, Merlot on me comes up a bright plummy red. The wine-plum element in it is enough for it to be wearable for daytime, and it's sheer enough to apply almost as a just-bitten stain on me, but it's still very much a red. And a beautiful, very wearable one at that. It helps give some colour on pale, 'ugh' mornings, but it's evidently very much brighter on my fair Asian skintone than it is for the other reviewers below me. Staying power is alright, it fades nicely, and the fragrance doesn't bother me too much, it's not very obtrusive.

I have bought about a 1000 dark lipsticks this year (or so it seems). This is my favorite. A dark burgundy color, but not scary on the lips. I am PPP (blush Ivory, hazel eyes) and old, yet this is not too much for me. A great shade for winter months, day or evening.

I gravitate toward any kind of plum/wine type of lipstick shade, so this lipstick immediately drew my eye. Looks better in the tube & on my hand...I went to the LM counter to try it on, and disappointingly the color is a bit off with my skintone. I like warmer shades...this has a little too much berry/pink in it. Highly fragranced too. Low lippie rating because the color is not flattering for me...but I will definitely look into more shades from this line.

I'm completely into red lipstick right now but I'm really really picky. I like deeper reds but look bad in anything too bright, too blue, too orangey, too brown, too dark, too pink, etc. Merlot is almost perfect. I would say it's a deeper red with some berry tones in it. It looked sort or sheer and glossy on the back of my hand but not so much on my lips. The only reason I wouldn't buy this again is because it looks way to similar to NARS Gipsy on me and I like the finish and wear of Gipsy much better. Very pretty red lippie though!

This is one of my favourite lipsticks. It is a deep cool-to-neutral wine-red with intense pigmentation, and yet there is a sheerness to it...one of my holy grail fall-winter lipsticks. It's intense enough to wear in the evenings, yet not over the top for daytime use. For reference, I'm a LM Blush Ivory, blue-eyed brunette. Gorgeous colour.

This color is gorgeous! It's a deep berry red, more cool than warm [but works on me - warm LLL], with a soft semi-shine finish that's not at all glossy. You just have to see it. The pigmentation is great, it looks great with a black dress and evening eyes.
