I have the overnight leave-in conditioner and all it did was make my hair even dryer and frizzier. I would never ever buy this again!

I love using the Acid Shock, HOWEVER, lately all the Sally stores that I have visted have dicontinued the item. So if anyone out there knows where I can buy more of this product please hollar. This conditioning booster really helps my long thick hair to stay shiney and not so coarse.

I first came across this while in an unnatural hair color phase. I was losing the color much quicker than I would have liked and while searching the web for advice on how to keep it bright longer I came across a mini lesson explaining the pH of hair, how it affects color, both chemical and vegetable based dyes and the results of various products to open or close the hair shaft, thus affecting both the dye job and color fade. Off I went, determined to find out more without enrolling in college. Fully armed with my new chemistry lesson, product info and wallet I headed to Sally's.
I hadn't come across info on this during my obsessive research but the bottle caught my eye and after reading the label I realized this is exactly what I needed.
I mixed with a deep conditioner after dying my hair (purple that time I believe) and left the whole deal on for 30 minutes. Rinsed out and my hair looked great. Not a huge change as veggie dyes aren't damaging so I wasn't looking for serious conditioning, just to close the hair shaft and hang on to that beautiful (and slightly scary) color. I began mixing it with my daily conditioner every other wash and quickly noticed the extra softness my hair had. And yes, it worked and my color stayed true for much longer, for the first time my roots grew in before the color faded.
I don't use veggie dyes anymore; now it's bleached, dyed, highlighted and pretty much trashed. Yet this product, mixed with any new conditioner I try, always leaves it feeling soft, detangled and looking healthy.

I was instantly intrigued by this product when I saw it at Sally's. When I looked at the product description, I had chemistry class flashbacks, so this review will turn into a little chemistry lesson. :)

Most of the things that we use on our hair are basic, or having the properties of a base. A base is a substance that has a pH of greater than 7. Soaps, shampoos and conditioners are more basic in pH. A base by nature has a slippery or soapy feel. The better a conditioner detangles, I would imagine it would be more basic. These slippery substances tend to leave a slimy residue on hair, resulting in buildup. As we all know, product buildup is a main reason our hair dulls and our color fades.

In the midst of all this, here comes Beyond the Zone's Acid Shock. Acid Shock is a mix-in that is meant to balance out the pH of your conditioner. In doing this, the product takes your conditioner to a more neutral pH (closer to pH 7, that of pure water), eliminating the alkalinity that can be so hard on your hair.

I use this about once a week, and mix the same amount of Acid Shock into my normal conditioner. It does not feel as slick on your hair as your conditioner alone, but there is not a big difference in the detangling properties once you attempt to comb it out. Your hair does look shinier and split ends appear to be "sealed" and smooth. When you use this with your first shampoo after coloring, it seems to lock in the color and add shine to hair that the coloring can sometimes deplete.

This product is inexpensive (I think it was $3.49 with my Sally's card), and the little pump bottle is cute and doesn't take up too much space in the shower. This is something I will continue to use to smooth my hair and seal my color. I highly recommend it.

I didn't notice a difference in my hair after using this. Hmmmm? I read a review mentioning trying it out on my roots in the shower for limp locks. I have half a bottle left of this, and I think I'll try the roots thing.

Did NOT like this stuff! First of all, I couldn't get the pump to work. So okay, I figure it's a defective pump, no biggie really, so I mix it in with my conditioner like the directions say. Right away, I feel tangles starting. That never happens to me in the shower, even though I have natural spiral curls. I rinse it out, and my hair is so tangled I have to go and put some conditioner on it just to comb it out. Again, this never ever happens to me.

I will not be repurchasing. I can make my own tangles for free.

I have been using this product to keep my hair shiny and healthy for quite some time now (around two years). And well to give you a brief history, my mane is a mutt, it has spiral curls, waves, and straight parts just everwhere. Oh, and to top all of that off, I color my hair, it also has a tendency to be dry therefore i only need to wash it every 2 to 3 days. Anyway, the way this stuff works, is that acid (otherwise known as the wonderful "low pH" that everyone raves about) closes the hair cuticle making it softer, shinier, and less prone to tangles. And as mentioned by another reviewer it does effect porosity making it smaller which enables your hair to hold onto color longer (and with how fast deep red likes to fade... this will keep it in for far longer.) Also low pH products will add body to your hair. And used correctly, mixing in 50% or more, with a deep conditioner preferably (such as neutrogena triple moisture or pantene deep recovery). It will definately make your hair glossier. Oh and for those looking for more volume (ick i have none at my roots) after mixing the conditoner and acid shock, and combing it through, take an extra pump or two and rub it into your roots. (and if you would like more high gloss and managebility try using the acid shock in conjunction with Federic Fekkai glossing creme- it has olive oil in it, great for revitalizing those luscious locks)

i won't give this a bad rating since it did come for free with my last call mask, but i couldn't tell a difference when i added it to my conditioner. i have wavy hair that tends to get a halo effect if i don't smooth my hair out, and this did nothing to tame that. i really couldn't tell any difference.

I should have left this one at Sally's. Its NEVER a good idea to buy a product that you dont know whats it for....lol...my addiction & confession.

That said. I dont know what this is supposed to do- I understand its supposed to smooth the hair cuticle & balance the PH in my hair- but perhaps my hair didnt need any of these items bc this didnt do a thing for my hair.

I'm crazy about the BTZ line- but this one just didnt do anything for me. I really liked the packaging, though- very easy to use- and the price is good. So if you want to buy something...that you maybe dont need...and maybe dont know how to use...

*scratches head*

What exactly is the product supposed to do? I mixed equal amounts of this w/my regular conditioner and didn't see much of a difference. Maybe a tad more shine, but no added softness. Smells nice and fruity, and the beaker bottle is cute, but I probably won't buy this again b/c I saw little to no difference in my hair.

I still have a bit of a mixed feeling on this one. I think it depends the type of conditioner that you use and what the ratio is. So far, I find it best with a very moisturizing conditioner that has a creamy texture and use a a tad more confitioner, 60/40 ratio instead of 50/50. I'm gonna have to continue to experiment to find the right combination. If you can figure out the correct amount and conditioner for your hair, it does help smooth and defrizz your hair.

I love this! It is supposed to adjust your "pH balance" in your hair and,I believe, help with porosity. I mix it in with my deep conditioner and leave it on under my heat cap. The result is super shiny frizz-free hair. I have even noticed that I can go without drying my straight hair when I use this(I blow dry it more to "smooth" it than to straighten)...but with this I can just air dry because my hair is so smoothed. It has a gel-like consistancy and smells pretty good-kinda a tropical scent (for a beyond-the-zone product).

This stuff is fantastic!! I wish I had discovered it sooner. It made my hair much shiner and less frizzy. My hair was noticeably softer. Has a nice scent to it as well. I got this free for buying the Last Call masque and I will definitely repurchase this again.

I was attracted to this by the cute beaker-ish container. Anything with beakers- I'm there man! I'm a science geek. But I digress. My hair does seem shinier after using this. Even if it does nothing I won't cry b/c I got it free with the BTZ Hair Masque & it smells good.
