I love this serum. It's lightweight, doesn't make my skin oilier, feels nourishing and definitely makes my skin look brighter. I am not sure why so many negative reviews, but anyone using this should also be using a broad spectrum SPF of at least 30 on their face, every single day. If you're not, you are not protecting the brightened skin this product reveals. You need to block your skin from the sun, which is the cause of discoloration and aging skin!

This serum is a waste of money ! It does nothing !
I own the whole shiseido white lucent range but i find this serum is too weak . I went through the whole bottle and felt no changes . I even thought the moisturiser work more effectively then this serum . Recommended to use no serum ! just use it moisturiser is enough to protect and moisturise :)

Note : I've been using shiseido for 6 years and decided to purchase the serum for my collection .. apply twice everyday but no results =/

I tired this product because I had read so many good reviews; however it didn't work at all for my skin type. I have dry-combination sensitive skin and this product made me break out within a week of using it. It also dried my skin out really badly that I had flaky patches of skin. I wouldn't recommend this product because it was expensive and did nothing for my skin, not even keep it moisturized and broke me out.

I bought it because I believe on SSD. I had bought 1 full box of SSD white lucent, include Day + Night cream, Toner + this serum one years ago.
I disapointed of SSD. Althought the name of product said White but my skin hadn't change anything. Product just helped my skin moist. That's all

I know a lot of people love this product, but I didn't feel that it had any extra whitening effect for me. I would caveat that I had been using whitening products for years prior to that so that may not be a fair comment... It's extremely expensive however, and as I'm not seeing any added results I will not be purchasing this again. Have been using this for a year now.

I received a sample size of this product through their Facebook promotion. I used it morning & night for ~2 weeks; I would cleanse with Cetaphil, apply this serum, then moisturise with Biotherm Aquasource. I didn't notice any reduction in my sun spots which is what I was hoping for after using this treatment; maybe it's meant for people with clearer skin than me (my skin is moderately damaged by the Australian sun). Some users have said it takes longer to work than that, which is fine, but that it takes continued use to maintain their skin. At this price, I'm not interested in just a temporary effect, although I did notice a little bit of serum went a long way.

I've used this serum for over a year giving it a huge window of time to work.

after a year and $600 bucks (i always bought the big bottle) i'm on the fence. i tan and freckle easily and i use retin-a.

if this works at all, its SUPER SUBTLE. so subtle that i think i wont miss it one bit once my last bottle is done.

it will NOT whiten anything, nt even the faintest little cheek freckle. it SORT OF brightens, but that might be wishful thinking on my part after sinking 600 bucks on this. i used the whole white lucent line too, not jst this serum.

im not buying this again, there are a lt of brightening serums on the market left to try that arent this expensive.

I had three .3 oz sample size bottles and used this for about a month on my face with no effect. Switched to using it on spots on my left hand and arm for another two months and had no appreciable fading. I switched to my hand/arm for a couple of reasons. First, this has a lot of alcohol in it which is very drying for the face. I'm not too concerned if it's a bit harsh for my non-facial skin. Second, the spots on my hand and arm are very distinct and have definite edges such that it would be easier to see if fading occurs. Third, the spots on my arm are covered during the winter so there is no worry of fading being undone by lack of sunscreen or sun exposure. Overall, it's possible there is slight fading on the lightest of freckles, but on any noticeable spots or discoloured areas, there was no difference. This is very expensive and, for my skin at least, does nothing to warrant the price. Packaging was a nice, light-tight pump. Will not repurchase.

i LOVE everything about this serum. this serum is my first ever serum. i was a little doubtful but the lady told me that this is the best for brightening. at first i though the price is just ridiculous but ive only used it 3 days now, i can see difference! i used to wear face shop bb cream quick and clean, it made my smooth face had small bits of white heads. theyre small but many around my forehead, chin to cheek. it was soo annoying. i stopped and desperately needed something to get it off. n this serum did it for me! my face is back to its clean stage as it was and it is also brightened my face. if i can find a serum just like this with a cheaper price i ill buy it, but til then ill stick with this! :D

EDIT 5th jan 2012
i have to say im using this only in the morning since inve got another serum to use at night. i can see difference now, my forehead that used to have a weird skintone seems to fade and seems a little brighter/whiter. and the brown spots are also fading, i guess this does work! but u just have to be VERY patient. and also this works perfectly if ur moisturizers is a whitening moisturizers, works better since i used kanebo impress whitening :)

I have a few discolorations on my skin from past acne. I've tried lots of brightening serums (including the whole bottle of lancome even better dark spot corrector) and haven't had any luck with them. This one is different. It definitely brightens and fades dark spots. I've used it as a spot treatment so far and it's been amazing. I got a large sample from sephora, and it seems to go a long way. There's no way I would buy the full size, even though it works wonderfully - it's just way too expensive. Still, if you're looking for a brightening serum that actually works and you don't mind the cost, this one's for you.

Expensive? yes. Does it's job? yes. Buy it again? yes, if i dont find a cheaper alternative. I have been using this for nearly 4 months and granted that I didnt use it everyday twice a day it has done a magical job of getting rid of my pimple scars and dark spots and also making my skin look brighter.

I use this serum religiously to try and fade various dark spots, uneven pigmentation and such. And it works. It's probably one of the best skin brightening serums I've used (I've tried ones from Estee Lauder, Caudalie, Lancome, etc.) in that it is effective. However, I do blanch at the price, especially because I use this serum so much I run out quickly. But until I find a less pricey alternate, I'll be coming back to White Lucent.

First of all, I really want to say that this is a serum- its meant to TREAT the skin, not moistorize.

I have to admit that sometimes I pick at my blemishes, ESPECIALLY when I was in my teens when my acne was at its worst, and it ended up leaving some nasty looking scars. I've tried everything- Clinique's serums, Sti-Vectin, etc- and for me, nothing worked and I was super hesitant to try anything else because all it does is leads to disappointment.
I tried Shiseido's White Lucent Serum and basically just rubbed it into my skin over the spots religiously 2 times a day- once in the morning and once at night.

I saw it fading in like less than two weeks and in about a month some of the lighter scars were pretty much gone! I absolutely LOVE this product!

Honestly, I'm not sure if it is the serum alone that made such a difference in the look of my skin, or the fact that I combined it with Shiseido's Furture Solutions face cream (another great product, in my opinion!) but either way, I'm super happy!
On the left side of my cheek ALL of my scars are pretty much completely faded away, the right (which had the worst!) is almost there!
As far as would I buy it again? Yes, I would. But I don't really feel like I would need to because since its serum you only need a little bit so the whole bottle itself should last me quite awhile. I am a college student on budget so it is definetly pricey for me, but skincare is important to me and I figured if I hated it and didn't want it anymore I'd just return it asap. I love it though, and on my bathroom counter it stays! :)

*Side Note: I think what is throwing the reviews off for this is that since its expensive people expect it to do everything, but its meant to brighten the skin and fade spots, not moisturize and take away wrinkles or anything like that. It does do its job. It'll probably take like a month for an acne scar to really be alomst gone, but even so, you see a difference after like 2 weeks and that was enough encouragement to keep me using it.

I've using this one for about 2 months, and i see the difference after 3 weeks. I have few dark spots on my right cheeks and it went away just in 3 weeks!! I tried other products, like Clinique, but it ruin my skin, and my skin broke out really really bad. Well, i think it reacts different on everyone. It took me about a month for my skin to get back to normal, and i actually got 2 scars from it. I have a very sensitive skin, so i can only use shiseido skin care. Maybe other products are too strong for my skin. I bought the whole White Lucent set, except the massage cream and serum for neck which i think unnecessary. Yes, you have to be patience for about 2-3 months for your skin to lighten up. It is pricey, but you will see the difference.

I got the White Lucent Brightening Serum as a sample from my Shiseido sales contact, so I just incorporated it into my routine without much thought, and if it lightened up any acne scars, great!

After a week of use, twice a day, I noticed I was getting some hives on my cheeks, which is usually where allergies or irritations first appear on my face. I stopped using it and the next day, my skin was back to normal.

Unfortunately, I don't know if it lives up to it's name because I didn't use it long enough to see any whitening or brightening effects.

This is a sticky white gel. I personally noticed no benefits from using this product. It is very expensive and with that kind of a price tag I expected more. The phrase, "you get what you pay for" does NOT hold true with this product. You will spend a lot of money and see no change in your skin. In my opinion: save your money and go get a microdermabrasion treatment at your nearest clinic/spa instead.
