I have used this for several years now & it is the best styling product for naturally curly hair that Garnier makes, in my opinion. I get compliments every week on my hair. I will be 59 in Oct. & this product is a must for me! I will say that Ouidad Climate Control is a better product, but more $. Both have the one ingredient that my hair can't be without & that is hydrogenated castor oil. It is essential. And also, castor oil, is a hair strengthener. I do use L'Oreal Everstyle Curl Activating mousse with it. (which also contains the castor oil) I always allow my hair to air dry. Have not used any heat or dye for several years now. I do spray this product into the palm of my hand & work it through, after I apply the mousse. Works for me! For reference, I have below the shoulder length hair.

I have very fine and straight hair and I use this whenever I curl it.
First of all, the spray nozzle is very complicated.. it just shoots out a very "choppy" stream of thick gel. And it's just like any other hair gel too..so.. not impressive.
Makes my hair feel crispy and hard to maintain.
Not a fan.

Bought this for my daughter who has naturally curly hair. Needed something to define the curls and make her hair look more polished. A little disappointed in this. The spray gel is extremely thick and runny/gooey. Not really a awesome product to use on dry hair but works okay on wet hair just out of the shower. Also tends to matte up in hair making it VERY difficult to brush through after the day is over. Smell not very pleasant. Won't re-buy and will continue our search for a better product.

I hate to leave a mediocre review but this product didn't really do anything for me. I have very thick, fine, slightly wavy hair and wanted something lightweight to bring out my hair's texture. This didn't do a whole lot for me; I applied it damp as recommended on the bottle and then twisted it around my fingers and air-dried it overnight. When I woke up the next morning, I had some definition but not much, and it all fell out as the day went along. When I used the spray gel dry to "refresh" my curls as recommended on the packaging, it left my hair feeling a little waxy/crispy and looking dull, but it did make it a little wavier; however, that went away soon after.
Overall, I'd say go for this if you have hair that is already naturally pretty wavy and lightweight, but stay away if your hair is only slightly textured or very heavy as you will encounter build-up trying to use enough product to keep your waves/curls.
One big plus is the packaging; though the gel seems a *little* too thick to come out cleanly as a spray, the packaging feels sturdy and well-put together. The pump works well and it's very easy to see how much product you have left since the bottle is clear.

This gel is way too thick for this spray nozzle. The whole reason I prefer spray gels is for the light distribution. This just shoots out blobs of gel that you still have to mix in yourself. You are better off just spraying it in your hands and applying that way. It has the typical Garnier smell. And like most of their products it starts to feel waxy on your hair after a while. It did NOTHING for my fine wavy/curly hair.

LOVE LOVE LOVE!
i have really thick, kinda curly/wavy hair, and i use this whenever i don't straighten my hair, and i always get a lot of complements on my hair! only down side is that i have to use a lot when i put it in my hair, so i only get about 7 days of usage out of it. But, it's a really fair price at walmart. great product. :)

I can't believe I haven't ever reviewed this. I use it every day that I wear my hair unstraightened - about 4+ times a week. I spritz a little in after washing, twist it up in a jaw clip and let it air dry for about 15 minutes while I get dressed and put on my makeup. Then I blow dry, scrunching my hair up until it's about 80% dry and spritz about 10 more sprays into my hair. Finish blow drying until my curls stay and spritz with finishing spray. It makes beautiful, natural curls, and as a bonus the next day I can just lightly wet my hair and re dry for the same gorgeous effect. For reference, I have shoulder blade long, layered, color treated hair, that is just slightly wavy without this stuff.

Wow, I love this product for my thick wavy hair!! I have been using it everyday for the past month since I got it, it's became a must have product in my daily routine. My hair was shorter before and it couldn't really form waves, but now that it's grown, I'm really into enhancing the natural waviness. I wash my hair at night so in the morning I would dampen my hair with some water, and then spray the gel on my hands and scrunch it into my hair. I use 3-5 pumps for each side of the hair, and then another 3-5 pumps for an overall scrunch. So you see the key is to distribute the product evenly, and also do not overuse it. This product enhances the waves in my hair and as the day go on, it actually gets more and more natural looking, never dull. It has a slight hair product scent, but it doesn't linger, in fact I think the scent is mostly gone by the time I leave the house. You must try this spray gel for your wavy hair if you want it to look natural and beautiful.

This product creates curls... if your looking for thin stiff dull curls. i gave this 2 stars because maybe on people with thicker hair who are interested in the stiff look it would work better, but on thin hair that is not curly but not straight- it looks horrible.

I don't know how this product works for people who have very curly hair. My hair is pseudo-wavy, and I often try to "enhance" the wave by braiding my hair at night, sleeping on it and letting it out in the morning. Instead of brushing it out, I use this Curl Shaping Spray Gel to hold/define the waves and eliminate frizz. I find that it works really well. I cannot complain about a) the 5-second morning hair routine and b) the super-cheap price.
I do find that my hair gets "crunchy" immediately after application, but after about 10 minutes, the crunchiness dissipates and I am left with soft, frizz-free waves. I like this product and would recommend it for people who are aiming for beach-style waves.

I decided to try this because they were out of frizz ease at the store...The product is more like a gel than a spray. It weighed down my hair and made it crunchy...maybe my hair is too fine for this? It held a curl throughout the day though so that's a plus but i won't buy again

I was given this gel to try by my sister since I have curly hair. I expect gel to help make my hair shiny and defined curls. This did NOT make my hair shiny, and only minimally defined my curls. It also was REALLY sticky. On the plus side, it smelled ok--similar to most Garnier hair products, if you like that smell. Will not repurchase due to sticky texture and lack of shine-enhancing.

Right now, I'm starting to embrace my natural waves instead or straightening my hair like i usually do. I've tried several wave enhancing products and although this is a "curl" shaping gel, it creates messy and beachy waves with up to a 5 hour hold. Also, it makes my hair smell amazing. The way I use it is two ways: air dry until about 90% then add the product and scrunch my hair until the waves are created or on dry hair, spray on my palms and distribute and scrunch.

It does not hold enough for me. It doesn't help w/ frizz either. Really disappointed in this.

EDIT: Have been using this for 2 weeks now and like it much better. Learned how to work with it--still a little "crunchy" but it really holds the waves. I switched my rating to "Yes, buy again."
I bought this by mistake thinking I was grabbing the wave enhancing spray. Since I'm not totally thrilled with that product, when I got home and saw the mistake I decided to try this out. I have wavy hair but it's by no stretch of the imagination curly. However, this actually works fairly well at bringing out the wave. It also holds the wave longer than the wave enhancing spray. The downside is, it gives that "crunchy/80s hair gel" feel that I remember so well from college. And it makes my hair look a little too "beachy" (i.e. greasy) for my taste. If my hair were truly curly, I could probably comb through to get rid of the crunch without losing the wave, but since it's not, I can't. I bet this would be a great product for those with actual curls and, if you have waves with more holding power than mine, it might work for you too. Anyway, at $4 or so it's worth a shot.

Works really well at defining my wavy/curly hair. I used to blow-dry my hair straight, but wanted to quit that & work with the texture I have. My hair is just past my shoulders - I spray about 7 pumps of the gel into my hand & then distribute evenly through my hair. It helps define & hold the curl, and my hair stays soft.
It'll take me a long time to use up the whole bottle. Good stuff!

This is a good scrunching gel although the gel is sometime hard to get to spray out because the it is thick. It gave me really nice curls and made them shiny. If you put to much in your hair though it get that scunchy hard look which i don't like. i dont actuLLY spray this in my hair i spray it in my hands because it looks better like that. Its cheap and can be fond anywhere.i would buy this again.

My hair is naturally wavy, but without any curl-enhancing products it tends to be a frizzy, poofy mess, with some sections straighter than others. This product is great for defining my waves -- I apply it to slightly damp hair, and scrunch while quickly blow-drying my hair on low to help set the wave. It gets rid of most (not all) of my frizz, and makes my hair so much more wavy, almost curly -- since my hair is so thick, sometimes I worry that this gel makes my hair *too* big and wavy! It is a bit sticky and can make your hair a bit crunchy, but the spray applicator lets me use less product so it still leaves my hair less sticky and crunchy than gels you apply with your hands from a squeeze tube. It has a light fruity scent that quickly fades after application. Overall, I'd definitely recommend giving this product a try since it's also a great price!
(I do use a heat-protectant spray and a mousse with this, but the gel definitely does most of the work when it comes to defining my waves!)

I used this product once on dry hair and it did nothing. Then, i scrunched it in damp hair and continutally scrunch my hair with no products while it dried and for the first time in my life my one length, thick, straight frizzy hair was a dream. It was wavy, smelled delish and looked so cute! love this stuff. The only downside is that it is kinda sticky, which i dont mind but some people may not like.
