I have the ES79A as well, it was my first NYX product and since then I'm sold.
I like the color even though it's just really not purple. It's a dark black/gray/brown with small purple glitter. With that being said, I used it almost everyday and just ordered my second one. It blends well, it can be used really dark or really light and I just love the subtle glitter.

Okay, this shadow is very confusing. First of all, NYX has two Deep Purples that look nothing alike. The two shadows are 1. ES79A and 2. ES52. I am reviewing ES79A which is a deep dark metallic shade that is mainly charcoal with a hint of blue/purple containing a lot of shimmer. You can see ES79A better in the 3rd pic of this review. ES79A is the last shade to the right. ES79A needs a primer to show good pigment. Without primer, it's a sheer wash of color. With primer, it's a very pretty color great for doing a twist on a tradional smokey eye. I enjoy this shadow because it's a different shade that I don't own and it's very inexpensive.

I have the ES79A. I'd really have to use my imagination to call this purple - it's more like a dark neutral charcoal gray with a hint of purple, topped off with a wash of tiny silver sparkles. It does apply a bit sheer, so it's suitable as a crease shade, but it would definitely need to be applied wet for use as liner. A nice shade, but doesn't fit into my purple eye look the way I was hoping for.

'Deep Purple' says it's a 'metallic' finish, but to me looks a little matte with subtle hints of shimmer. The pigmentation is quite good and was better than what I was expecting. It applies smoothly and easily blend-able. Not chalky at all. What I like about this is that it doesn't give me a ''black-eye'' look which can sometimes be the case with some purple shades on me. I like pairing this with a darker purple and a matte black for a smokey eye.
Sure, its not exactly a ''deep purple'' as the name suggests, but when you apply it with a damp brush, the color pops even more!

I bought Deep Purple (ES79A) and it's very dark, almost matte with little to no shimmer. It's not what I was looking for ~ I want a deep purple with "shimmer" for evenings. This shade should be called "deep violet" ~ it's a violet and black mixture. This will work as a wet eyeliner.
I've noticed that most of NYX dark shades look almost matte, even though they are labeled as "shimmer". Back to the drawing board for this color. I will continue to buy NYX shadows, just not this shade...

the color is great (m wearing ES52), it pop right on even without primer, highly pigmented purple-blue-y(?) shade, once applied you'll find a matte smooth color that faily lasts. and love the cute little packaging, definitely will repurchase

I finally figured out why there are mixed reviews on this product.....There are two different nyx deep purple shadows, ES52 and ES79A. I have ES79A and it is definately a DEEP shade. It is almost a greyish deep purple with shimmer. It is a great smokey shade and you don't find this kind of purple shade often and I will definately repurchase.

Overall, it's a pretty purple, but I agree with the other's that the name is a little off. I was expecting more of a deep purple as in eggplant, but it's more of a medium purple. This pairs well with Red Bean Pie, which is more of a deep purple and is one of my favorite NYX eyeshadows. For what's it's worth, I once this is gone, I will repurchase. Even if the name doesn't really match, I'll repurchase once this is gone because it's still a really pretty color.

I thought this "deep purple" would be... well... a deep purple. It's not a dark purple, at least on my skin. It's more of a medium light purple. A totally misleading name, I still like it though. It comes out a very lovely metallic purple. I always use a primer so my shadows usually come out true, so I'm not sure if that's why others are having a problem with it staying on. I think I'm going to try and buy Eggplant and see if that's a darker purple that I was wanting. I will keep my deep purple and probably repurchase when needed.

I have ES52. Overall, this is a pretty blue-y purple that looks gorgeous. NYX makes gorgeous pigmented eyeshadows, and this is no exception. It has a slight shimmer to it, but not at all glittery. I love the packaging; the square pot is quite cute and unique from the regular round eyeshadow pots. The packaging is sturdy as well and actually feels more secure than the MAC eyeshadow pots! This shade is pigmented, soft, and silky, and for the price, it's definitely a great buy. I'm taking a lippie off because of its misinforming name. With the word "deep" to describe a shade, I'm thinking this will be a dark purple. Rather, it's more of a medium tone purple--still gorgeous--but not what I was expecting. But still, a great eyeshadow!

This purple is soo gorgeous, I compared this to MAC's satellite dreams and it looks like a matte version but this is much prettier. This eyeshadow is a metallic purple with obvious reddish purple shimmer, nice for the outer v and lining. I suggest you apply it wet if you want a more purple colour, and dry is you want a deeper shade.

I was surprised to see that this doesn't exactly have the best reviews. I got plenty of pigmentation out of this product (I used the single eye shadow -- I think that in general those work a little better than what you get in the trios). I just think the name is a misleading, as is often the case. It's not a really dark shade, but more like a very metallic medium-toned purple that blends well and prettily with a darker color. That said...I think it's true that there are better purples out there. I don't think this is poor quality at all, though, and I definitely still reach for it.

I REALLY like this eyeshadow! Dry, it is a dark, satin-like plum. Wet, it is lighter with more shimmer. It blends pretty well and I am impressed by the pigment.

After reading all of the other ladies' reviews, I'm pretty surprised to see that they think this colour is dark. I was about to say quite the contrary. This color comes out pretty sheer on me (NYX is usually highly pigmented). I purchased this eyeshadow on-line and the colour preview they had was totally different than the true colour and colour pay-off! I was expecting a truly DEEP, DARK purple to use for my smoky eyed looks. This colour kinda reminded me of an eyeshadow that a pre-teen would use just playing around with her make-up =/
Let down...

Deep Purple is sooo pretty! I agree with kealoha when she describes this as a rich eggplant color, although a tad lighter. Paired with lighter purples, this is stunning in the crease and wet as a liner. One of my fave purple eyeshadows that make my hazel eyes pop! (LLL-MMM, olive-neutral)
