I am pale, about NC15. I used to always use Linen but am now finding that this is more flattering under eyeshadow. It makes a nice base for eyeshadow because it covers all darkness from my thin eyelid skin (unlike UDPP).

Surprised by the high ratings. I wanted to use this as a primer, but my e/l slid under my eyes. When I use the same e/l w/my Lumene primer, I did not have this problem. I also did not notice any improvement in e/s color on top of this product. Too pricey to be a mediocre primer. Wheat was a good match for my NC25 skin.

I've used this product for years and I still like it. In fact, I stopped using any primer/base for a while when mykids were really little and I came across it again the other day. Still love it. I have mono lids and this stops my shadow from creasing. Everything stays put. It's also a perfect match for my NC 30 skin so I use it under the eye too

I have used UDPP for years thinking that was the only thing that could ever hold my eyeshadow in place until i started using this at my job. im about nc40 & this matches my eyelids pretty good instead of using concealer. love how matte it dries & hold everything in place.

This is, in my opinion, the best eye shadow primer of all. And especially, wheat should suit most skin shades. The best thing about this primer is the natural look it gives, while providing great coverage at the same time. You can easily use it on its own, just to even out your eyelids' colouration and it will look very natural, while, with UDPP, you can only use it as a base for an eye shadow, otherwise it will just unnaturaly show on your eye lids. It does not crease, and I've got very oily eye lids and my make up last several hours. All in all, the best and the most convertible eye base product you can get (if u can get it, as not easily found). The only thing is the packaging. The tip is too short and it can not reach the bottom of the container, which still contains plenty of product.

I have been using this for 3 years. As a busy stay at home mom, I don't even wear eyeliner and eyeshadow anymore, I don't have the time and honestly don't care. I just use this, the LM under eye concealer, and mascara and I'm good to go. When I used to have time to put on eyeshadow and liner, and wore this underneath, my make up looked just as good at the end of the work day as it did first thing in the morning. Now, I just swipe in on my eyelids, it takes away the redness and wakes my eyes up.
Basically I can't live without this stuff.

I'm officially obsessed with this product. I use it everyday. When the Laura Mercier rep recommended it to me I thought I had plenty of eye shadow bases from urban decay and Mac among others. But I realized this one was different, mainly in the fact that you can just wear it as an eyeshadow and it makes your lid look bright and flawless. I spend most of my work week just wearing wheat on my eyelid. It's fast and easy to apply and instantly brightens your eye to a natural refreshed look. I had no idea how discolored my eyelids were and how many fine veins I had until I compared the difference in the natural daylight between an eyelid with wheat and one without. It is so quick and easy to use, my go to product when I'm in a hurry for the day but don't want tired looking eyes. Love this product!

I like this eye base. I bought it for half price so I was happy about the price - also it is pretty impossible to get Urban Decay and the like in Australia so I haven't even been able to compare.
This product makes my eyeshadows last at least twice as long without creasing as they do with either stila kitten smudge pot as a base, or with no base whatsoever. It does its job, and it helps coloured eyeshadows pop a little more.

When I was getting my makeup done recently the salesperson asked about my eyeshadow base and I had no idea what she was talking about...I went back to the office and asked friends about it and the just looked at me like...Where have you been? Anyway, bought this and really liking it - makes everything last longer. Only issue is that the smell has turned a bit (similar to what used to happen to my touche eclat every once in a while)...will buy again.

This is the best eye shadow base I have ever used, and I've tried quite a few of them. This spreads easily, dries quickly, and helps any shadow I apply over it show up so much better. Will repurchase until I "discover" a cheaper alternative.

Like the previous reviewer, I got this as part of a kit at Sephora, but mine was a bonus points selection. The kit is actually pretty good, with a primer, tinted moisturizer, scrub, mascara and this shadow/primer.
The product itself is pretty darned good. In the tube, it looks very much like my own skin colour or like Painterly Paint Pot but when applied it somehow seems darker and a bit "muddy" on my lids, so not great as a shadow but it does work really well as a base to keep my shadow from creasing. I just think that if I decide to purchase this product, I'd choose a slightly lighter or more brightening shade (Linen, perhaps?). I do really like the packaging, in a clear tube with a doe foot applicator - so much more practical than jars like Mac Paint Pots (which can dry out before you finish the product) and the clear tube allows you to see how much product is left so that even if the doe foot doesn't reach it all, you can use something else to get out every last bit. All in all, a really good product in intelligent packaging but just not my perfect colour.
UPDATE (March 2012): I wore this yesterday for the first time in a while, as my UDPP and Painterly were packed for a trip (leaving later this morning). It worked well enough but I did notice at the end of the day (a rather hectic one but only about 10 hours after applying) that my shadows looked quite "muddy" - far more so than with other primers, so while I may purchase this again in a lighter shade, it would be to use as a shadow more than a base.

I received this as part of a Laura Mercier kit from Sephora and decided to use it as a eyeshadow primer in lieu of my all-time favourite, Urban Decay's "Eden". It works well as a primer, but the colour is much too dark - "Wheat" is a camel with orange undertones and at least two shades darker than my natural skin colour (it's January, so right now I'm at my palest).

I have this in the sample size in which I received in a Laura mercier kit
From Sephora. It couldn't pick a shade so I received it in the color "wheat". Love the fact that it's inna clear tube so you know how much product you have. Applicator is a doe foot wand, similar to the urban decay primer potion. Luckily the shade wasn't too light for my skintone. A little amount def goes a long way. I realized that this product did help keep my eyeshadow from creasing throughout the day. I don't love this product but I dont hate it either. Consistency isn't thicky but it isn't thin like the UDPP. Wouldn't purchase this In the full siZe tube. I'll stick with my UDPP (in the squeeze tube version).

The color is great, it did brighten my eye area and make shadows stand out...but even the tiniest amount made my eyelids feel dry and tight. This is probably a fantastic product if you have oily skin but mine is dry and this product is unecessary.

This does not work for oily eyelids. The colour is nice, evens out the lid, but sadly it does not stay, nor does it make my eyeshadow last longer. I think that Urban Decays primer works better than this.

This looked wonderful when the make-up artist applied the product on my lids. However, when I got home and tried it out the following week, I got a horrible allergic reaction that lasted two weeks and the product creased like no other.
It obviously went back.

Nice neutral primer. Flax was too light (and pearly). Wheat was a better match for my NC25-30 as a primer base. Alone it doesn't do much, but paired with powder shadows, it adds staying power. I believe they have reformulated this -- it used to have a "thicker" consistency -- now it is thinner/runnier.

I'm so disappointed by this, especially given all the great reviews. First, the positives: great color for my fair skin tone, evens out discoloration on my eyelid, great packaging, and it's really easy to blend eye shadows over this. Now, the big con (which is the deal breaker for me): It creased within about 3 hours. Here was my experiment: I used a matte MAC eye shadow that I know has good lasting power (Quarry) and my trusty UDPP. On one one lid I used UDPP and on the other I used LM Eye basics, and applied Quarry on top of both lids. The e/s with Eye basics creased within 3 hours, the e/s with UDPP creased after 9 hours. Next, I tried layering UDPP under Eye Basics, and that did nothing to increase the wear time. I tried various other eye shadows and techniques over a 2 week time period and Eye Basics never lasted on me. Thus, I can't recommended this for anyone with very oily lids like mine.

I truly love this product. The absolute best trick to this is to dab a very small amount on the lid and then blend in with a fluffy brush such as a MAC 217 or Sonia Kashuk Crease Brush. Using your fingers to blend this product does not give you a nice even coverage and will perhaps taint your opinion of this product. This is basically a dupe for MAC Painterly PP in reference to shade but much easier to work with, less drying, better movement, better setting power and is a HG everyday shadow for me. This can obviously be used as a base for powder shadows but for the past month I use just this on my lid, highlight brow bone with MAC Blanc Type, and then line my upper lash line. This makes my life so much easier in the land of makeup.

I've reached a point where I actually cannot imagine life without my beloved Wheat. I've used this everyday for years. I put a bit on my finger, apply from lash line to brow, then stand back and behold the awesomeness. Wheat is the perfect color for my skin, always looks natural, and my shadows - whether cream or powder - last all day. Please don't flag this review but....I find it FAR superior to UDPP. **gasp** LM used to make darker Eye Basics (now it looks like they only have pastels) and I am hoarding them like gold. I always make sure I have a Wheat back-up in case some crazy person in marketing decides to discontinue it too. **gasp**
