Urgh I do not like this stuff. Even the tiniest amount leaves my fine, damaged hair feeling both greasy and dry. I can usually load my hair up with oils without it feeling too heavy, so I suspect that the silicones were to blame.

This stuff is amazing.
I have short very thick wavy hair that is a little frizzy.
I put a little less than one pump then run it through my hair and repeat.
I straighten it and the results are fantastic.
My hair is incredibly soft, it has a certain shine to it without being or looking oily and my flyaways are nearly gone.

Only thing is, don't use too much or your hair will be greasy and look bad!

I bought this product when my usual Redken product was unavailable. The product comes in a pump bottle with a plastic cap. The pump works fine, but the plastic cap doesn't fit the bottle and constantly pops off. All that aside the product really isn't worth it. It tames frizz pretty well, but it leaves my hair greasy in places and dry in others. I've tried using less but my hair didn't return to normal until I stopped using it entirely.

Its a combination of an anti-frizz serum and heat protector. But the only problem with this is sometimes it weighs my hair down. I have to very careful whole applying this to my hair. If I accidently apply even a little extra, my hair will be greasy. Less is more with this.

Edit: I've stopped using this because it was weighing my hair down too much for my liking. I like a lot of volume in my hair and I couldn't achieve it while using this product.

This product does work, however it's difficult to use correctly. If you have hair that is weighed down easily, you have to make sure not to use too much or else it'll build up into a gunky mess and look awful. I have medium thickness, fairly straight hair that tends to poof out and get dry at the ends. If you have a similar hair type as me, I recommend using a MAXIMUM OF ONE PUMP of the product, rubbing it between your hands, and apply mid-length and down mostly on the outer layer of your hair where the most damage occurs. Resist the urge to put this any higher up near your roots. Do this after you towel dry your hair, not when it's sopping wet, then blow dry.
Heat Glide does make my hair silkier and it definitely cuts out the poofiness I am prone to. My hair looks better once I sleep on it after I use this. I took off some points because you have to be really careful not to use too much and I feel it cuts down on the shininess of my hair a bit, but not much. I can understand why this product is amazing for those with super thick hair.

UGH!! i don't see how this got a 4 rating on pville. i tried using it before i flat ironed . usually i put some chi silk infusion to protect my hair. i took maybe two pumps of this. it's incredibly sticky and thick, like honey, and it leaves a nasty waxy coating on my hair. My hair felt coated and fake, like doll hair, not the usually silky-ness that i get with chi. I don't see how anyone can use this. Maybe i used it wrong? Its gross feeling ugh!
I dont even....whatever.
I will not repurchase. In fact, i'm returning

I took the plunge and finally, after years of mulling it over, purchased the Smooth Down 'poo, con, and this serum. Why didn't I purchase it before? A few reasons.. I used All soft, which I adored, and have adored for at least 7 years.. it always did right by me.. until the recent reformulation. it is merely.. O.K. Second reason? macadamia nut oil.. to be honest, I wondered if I would react to it, as I cannot actually ingest the nut.. makes me sick, So I thought maybe I was allergic to it or something.. turns out, it is just a rich nut that my stomach doesn't seem to like, but BOY, does my hair love it!

I washed and conditioned last night.. this is a first impression review, so bare with me.. I put 2 small pumps of Heat Glide in my hair and blow dried.. my hair felt nice.. I went to sleep. When I woke up, My hair still looked the same.. sure, to you this may seem to be a small thing.. to me? it is major.. my bedroom is an oven in the summer, even with the AC on.. couple that with a hubby who is nothing short of a furnace, and you get frizzy, kinky, ridiculous hair upon awakening. I thought this was great.. so I proceeded to flat iron.. added a small touch to the ends to smooth them and I was out the door with my daughter to walk to school...

Should I mention, that it was 35 with humidity outside? ( 95 F for you American folks.. hee hee.. ) Sooo humid out.. and when I came back inside from dropping my daughter off.. my hair was .. the same! no frizz.. no freak show ... I have half-a$$ed curly hair .. but incredibly frizzy so I blow dry it into submission.. this stuff is Holy.. I hope I continue to get the same results along the road.. The true test, will be when I bring my daughter HOME from school.. it will be almost 45 with humidity at that point.. if it can make it through that, I will build a shrine for this stuff in my bathroom.. lol.. Honestly, this is the first frizz serum I have ever used that actually did what it said it would do. I love Redken, I always have and for good reason. I will certainly purchase again.. but this will last me for a long time..
A quick edit: same day... Got back from school... hair looked fab.. hour long sweat fest at the gym.. .running on treadmill... etc.. not an ounce of frizz.. I am marrying this stuff... lol....

LOVE! Simply put this tool away my burnt hair smell and makes my hair so soft and shiny and my hair lasts straight all day. It is a bit pricey, however; the bottle is pretty big and since you are using 1-3 drops max it lasts forever.

I am giving it 5 stars because it deserves it. I live on a island and the humidity level is very high.It does its job perfectly as it performs well after a 2 hours of intense workout so my hair stay frizzless and controlable. It is the best heat protection AND anti frizz product I have used so far and I definately buy it again. Excellent product.

Edit: I am super sad that this and the whole Redken 'Smooth Down' line is being discontinued, :( I went to the Redken site and the Smooth Down line is being replaced by Lock down or something, it will be interesting to see how the new 'heat glide' compares to this classic.
I think this is my only review here on MUA that I have ever given 5 stars. I love this serum. I have very thick coarse hair and I love using this as a heat protector, hence the name heat glide. In my opinion, this product is worth the money and a whole bottle should last you awhile. Since I like to rotate my products, especially serums, I rotate this with John Frieda Thermal Protection serum and Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment, the smooth down heat glide bottle lasts me at least 1 year. I usually only use this when I flat iron since it is a very thick serum I normally don't use it to tame flyaways, I think the Macadamia healing oil is a bit lighter and easier to manipulate to use for flyaways. I love the smell of redken's heat glide, it does also contain macadamia and it feels like silk. I would definitely reccommend this.

This was too thick and oily for my hair I think. It left a layer and didnt really help with my frizzies either. I also wasnt a huge fan of the smell.

LOVE this product, but it's easy to over-use. A friend taught me a trick: I have shoulder length hair. I get my hair as dry as I possibly can with my towel. Then I put two pumps in my palm, and rub my two palms together. I bend over, and apply product only to the pony tail part of my hair. Rub it through, then lightly rub what little product remains over the top and sides of my head. Then I blow dry and style with a round brush and sometimes with my flat iron. My hair looks smooth and silky every day. But I have to be careful... after a few days, this product builds up a bit. So I use just one squirt instead of two.

I'm a big Redken fan, so when I read all the great reviews for their Heat Glide, I pretty much flew out the door to get it. I have medium-thick hair, with frizzy ends from excessive straightening and blow drying. I used about 2 pumps 10 minutes before styling, mostly from the ears down. Works very well, my hair felt very soft and even looked better all-around. My only thing was I'd sometimes apply it after I'd finished drying my hair, mostly at the ends to give it shine and control the last of the frizz and it seemed to make my hair static-y. Besides that little road bump, good product.

Best serum I've used. My hair is fine and has natural waves and sometimes it can look really frizzy (specially in humid environments). But smooth down heat glide really tames the frizz and makes the hair shiny and manageable. Before I iron or blow my hair i use 3-4 pumps (long hair) only on the ends and up, never on the roots! And after heat exposure I take another 2 pumps to tame the friziness, works great! The smell is wonderful and lingers for some hours. It works great if you dont expose your hair to heat also, those times when I let my hair dry naturally I take Smooth down to tame the frizz.

Just another sillicon based hair serum, I'm not overtly impressed. Pretty concentrated and thick, I use one pump when my hair (just a couple of inches below shoulder) is semi dry. Can be used on damp and dry hair.

This is the best serum I've ever used. All of them promise smooth frizz free hair but this is the only one that has delivered. The best thing about it is how easy my hair is to blow dry and straighten after I've used it, takes half the time to style my hair straight. Since I started using it people are always asking me if I've been to the hair salon because it looks so shiny and sleek. If I go out in bad weather or go on a night out in a hot club it still controls my hair, not perfectly but far better than if I wasn't using it. One negative is that you have to be careful to only use a very small amount or else your hair will get really greasy looking, but on the postive side a bottle of it will last for ages so it's worth the money. I've been using my bottle for 4 months and I'm only a 5th of the way through it so I can see it lasting far over a year. Seems to work as a heat protectant although I normally spray a bit of heat protectant on my hair too just to be on the safe side. Will definitely rebuy once this eventually runs out!

Redken Smooth Down Heat Glide is a staple in my hair product routine when I use heat styling products on my hair. I typically use two pumps of this product, which I squirt in to my hand and then mix with several other hair products before applying the mixture to my hair. Heat Glide smooths my thick head of fine to medium hair, adding a bit of shine while protecting it from heat. I have had the same bottle of this product since I was in tenth grade, (almost four years) so because of the small amount I use each time, I really don't think the price is bad at all! Absolutely recommended!

Smooth Down Heat Glide is a great product. It comes in a small 5oz pump container, and is marketed for dry/unruly hair, so it is very thick, and very greasy feeling, but for my dry frizzy hair it works well. I apply a few pumps on each section of my hair then proceed to blow dry my hair. My hair is left soft, and feels nice. The directions only say to apply this product to hair before blow drying then after styling, so I'm not sure if this product should be applied when flat ironing- I did try it, and it did release a lot of steam from the flat iron, so I'm not sure I will try it when flat ironing again. I will use it before blow drying and as a finisher.

I was tired of using my old heat protectant - it wasn't working well with my hair type. That's when I decided to try and find something else to start using, and decided I would give this a go! All I can say is that this is like an answer to my damaged, dry and thick hair. I put about five pumps in my hair and then proceed to dry it, and the end result is a smooth, silky hair feeling - something I have never experienced after drying my hair before. To think that it doubles as a heat protectant is mind-boggling, my hair feels too soft for it to be true! I'm in love.
