I love red nail polishes and at least twice a season, I wear an in-your-face red. This certainly fits the bill. It is classic red and has a cooler-leaning undertone that makes it flattering on a range of skin colours. I consider this more of a jelly, and I did find that application was a little uneven. However, it was still fairly easy to use. I found that it took 3 coats to reach the same depth of colour as the bottle. I have said I won't repurchase bc this is a standard neutral red and while I love the idea of a classic Chanel red, I'm sure I can find a dupe in a less expensive, but still good quality, brand. Shine and wear time are both very good on me. I use butter London nail foundation as base, and Sally Hansen Insta-Dry as top coat.

Love this product. It's such a gorgeous, classic red. I was going to order Chanel 'Rouge Fatal' online but was in a department store yesterday and picked this up after seeing the colour of Rouge Fatal in person. Am so so glad I didn't order Rouge Fatal and picked this instead. Rouge Fatal is a tomato-like colour where as this is much more berry in tone. Applies beautifully, quick drying. Love it.

Without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best colour in the existance of nail polish. This is the perfect red for the classic half-moon red nail. It is vampy without looking tacky. Two coats are more than enough. xo

I have no idea why I was shocked when these Chanel polishes turned out to be better than OPI's and all other "mid-range" polishes. I guess sometimes I just assume that designer beauty products are pulling a fast one? I don't know. But not the case here.. this stuff is the real deal, in every way. Lasts a solid week with minimal wear, the application is impeccable, the brush is SO precise and the color payoff is shocking; I actually shake my head after doing every nail. Looking forward to buying more.

The perfect red jelly. This is not so vampy or in your face that you can't wear it to work. Bridget Bardot classic. I like it with two coats. Three gets a bit too sultry for me. Wore fairly well too. Would rebuy.
Thanks Chanel for reissuing! Now if you could bring back some moar old nommy colors, we might become nail besties.

The good: Pirate is beautiful. The formula is as smooth as silk and easy to work with. Three coats provide the best opaqueness with the result being a truly beautiful and richly pigmented classic red.
The bad? This is one of the most chip-prone polishes I have ever worn. I'm so sad, because the color is so beautiful, however it barely lasts 2 days before it looks horrible and needs to be removed. I use Seche Vite as my topcoat, so I may experiment with different topcoats to see if I can get more than 48-hours of wear before classy turns to trashy.

I don't understand how anybody can expect this one to be a brownish red from looking at the bottle. I expected an intense, blue based red creme, and that's exactly what I got on the nail. As always with Chanel, application was fast and easy, and I could have stopped at one coat and got a bright, clear fuchsia, had I wanted to. I applied three coats though and got the color it has in the bottle. Coming to think of it, it's rather strange that Chanel haven't had this color in their range before. It is a standard blue based red, close to many other true reds. It's very beautiful, but if you have about 25 reds in your collection, you probably already own a color like this.

Chanel Pirate was my first foray into mid-range or high-end polishes, after spending much of freshman & sophmore years rotating between NYC Black and black Sharpies. Whichever worked best and was more conveinient at the time. Maybe I'm nostalgic, maybe it's the fact I threw that first bottle out last night while cleaning, or maybe it's the knowledge of knowing this was my first real cosmetic counter purchase that my Mommy didn't buy for me as a stocking stuffer. Who knows. Suffice it to say, I love Pirate.
On me, Pirate with first coat goes on a bright red colour. It's first coat is very opaque, but I have to do two coats to get the burgundy-brown-red it looks in the bottle. I'm extremely pale, and this looks dramatic on me, but in a more grown up way than NYC Black ever did. And even if I love me some black nails, there's some part of me that has a bit of a block against it - like I should have the Hot Headz Pink Hair I did in 9th grade when I pull out the old NYC Black. Pirate is deep, dramatic and dark on me - almost like what I would imagine dried blood would like in some B-list vampire movie. It is much more wearable in my boring, office job than Black.
This also stains my nails like mad if I don't use a base coat.
Chip-wise, it does chip. The un-chipped portions last a good amount of time, but it does chip. Usually about 2 days after, it will start to chip. Then, it'll stop. I've had un-chipped portions of Pirate last on my nails for up to 2 weeks. Regardless, all these reviews about how it doesn't chip kinda surprised me. So, took off a star for that.
Personally, I find it a little too much for summer, but I'm all over this in fall & winter.
I love the formula, but I do think there are better and cheaper alternative out there. However, the colour IMO can't be beat and I'm willing to re-buy.

This is my favourite shade of red... but definately need 2 or 3 coats to see the best colour. Doesn't chip!

Pirate is a classic red nail polish with a deceptively cool name. As another reviewer mentioned, it requires three coats for opaque coverage and to go from bright pink (Don't panic.) to medium, blue toned red.
Doesn't last well on me at all. Never seems to chip, but it likes to peel off in the shower.
Nowhere near worth the money. I'm done with Chanel polish.

This was my first foray into Chanel nail polish, and I'm feeling a little let down. Pirate looked like it was a rich brown red in the bottle, but after 3 coats (yes that's how many it took so that the whites of my nails wouldn't show through), it's a blue-based red creme. It's a beautiful and classic color, but it does not look like it does in the bottle. And frankly, I have the classic blue-based red from many other brands that look and wear just as well for half the price. I will continue to use this color for my toes, but I won't be rebuying it again.

wonderful colour! classic, dramatic and funky at the same time. perfect for feet. what i love about the consistency: you really can apply a thin layer and still get rich colour. the brush allows you good controle.

every lady should own a shade like this ;-) a true, fiery red colour without shimmer. I wear it both on my toes and fingers (on short, round nails to avoid the "hooker" effect). I apply two layers to really get the classic-red colour and to prolong the staying power. a must-have!

I never liked nailpolish until I tried Chanel. It lasts so long, dries quickly and it covers 100% from the first layer of color. So worth the price. I am never wearing any other brand more. I just feel so free when do not need to check my nails all the time if my polish has chipped. With Chanel polish I can actually dear to wear my nails bold and dark!
But Pirate is not my color. It is a blue based true red. It does not really look good on my short fingernails or toenails either. I should be wearing something more orange or muted. I wont purchase this one anymore but definitely will the other colors!
EDIT!!! I just tried Pirate with the discontined Chanel Cobra wich is a very dark, almost black purple shade. So I first wore the base coat, then Chanel Cobra and tthen the pirate. Result: Real dramatic, gorgeous rouge noir shade. I am glad I found the way to use these and I can remove Chanel Rouge Noir from my shopping list.

Not a shimmer. Not a metallic. Not a pearl. Just a classic, true medium red. Pair it with the Hydrabase lippie of the same name for a killer look!
