I agree with those who mention the overpowering opening notes. In fact those opening notes almost made me sell or swap it right after I got it from an online store without testing first. My initial impression was that it's way too rough and spicy (in a wrong way) for me to use it.
But after several days I felt its smell on my coat that I had on that day - and I found it wonderfull! After you let it linger it turns very warm and pleasantly sweet. It even became my signature perfume during this winter.
It is definitely a winter fragrance - would never use it in summer or spring. And it's not too sophisticated, of course - like all CSPs. But it's nice and comforting, I'll keep using it next winter :-)

This cinnamon vanilla fragrance unfortunately translates to my nose as cheap potpourri. The note description sounded lovely, warm and rich enough for me to purchase online, but I was disappointed when it arrived. CSP has some great scents and some that are pretty bland, and this one isn't in the better category.

Not yet sure how I feel about Vanille Canelle.

Pros: ..
- DELICIOUS dry down that smells warm and foody like cinnamon buns-perfect for winter and snuggling close.
- Something boys ADORE. I just tested this and my doorman, the assistant super, our mail guy and UPS guy all commented on "ow smells good! like cake."
- Pretty long lasting just like my faves-Vanilla Abricot and coco Vanille.
-Stays true to its own scent.

Cons:
- PRICE! like all the CSP's VERY expensive unless you buy it online. Iwas fortunate enough to trade for it. Also hard to find-think its discontinued.
- EXTREMELY heavy on the cinnamon/nutmeg in the opening notes It was really red-hot for the first hour or so. Almost too strong-tickels the back of my throat pretty good. It did mellow out into brown sugar and vanilla eventually but that opening might ruin it for me.
-Packaging annoys me as usual-impossible to tell how much is left in the can. But its sturdy.

Overall I like it but dont LOVE it. But I will hold onto it for now.

The thing with Comptoir fragrances is that they're really simple yet well-made, long lasting, deep and natural smelling fragrances, true to their initial smell. Don't expect any evolutions or chemistry changing effect from these, and you'll be satisfied with what you have. Among CSP fragrances, Vanille Cannelle is my second favourite after Vanille Abricot. It's another cakey sweet delicious foody fragrance, not overpowering, not cloying at all, yet gourmand and sweet enough for me to drool. It may smell of cinnabuns, all right, I love them, I love cinnamon in every way. And I love ginger, too, and how vanilla melts them all and won't really stand out, but rather give cinnamon and ginger more body and softness. A definite winter-wear fragrance, inoffensive and relaxing.

From CSP website: "The delicious taste of an exotic dessert which blends red-hot cinnamon, ginger and brown sugar in a mellow cream of vanilla."

Vanille Canelle reminds me of having a cinnamon-spiced cappuccino by a wood stove. Delicious and not overpowering.

I got an amazing deal on this on ebay - and being that the reviews on here for vanille canelle are so mixed, I thought I would take a chance... and I'm so glad I did. I'm *thrilled* with this particular perfume. I have a few others in the vanille series, and although most of them smell pretty good on me, this one works really well with my body chemistry. Strangely enough, I don't really get much cinnamon - it smells like delicious dark cream soda on me - or root beerish. The dry down is excellent - a sweet vanilla cookie scent. Although I agree that it does fade pretty fast, unlike some of the other Comptoir Sud Pacifique scents, this one lingers faintly a few hours later (unlike some that are fully gone within a 1/2 hour). I really recommend this one!

Ditto on the cinnabons, and sadly, no staying power. I like it's spiciness, but it is also mega heavy on the alcohol, which for me seems as dominant as the spice. Concept is good, but the execution falls short.

Found this gem at Marshall's for $9.99. I love the burst of cinnamon and then the dry down is a yummy vanilla frosting. If you swoon by the Cinnabon store at the mall you might like this. I like to wear this in the winter. Makes me feel all cozy and warm even on the coldest days.

Vanille Canelle is...

- a cute blend of very heavy vanilla and a deep cinnamon scent!

- foody; my boyfriend even remarked how "cake-like" I smelled...

- extremely longlasting, apply in the morning and is still there at night.

- rather "what-you-smell-is-what-you-get" in a boring way.

My only gripe with this "perfume" is the fact that it doesn't seem to evolve. According to the website the top notes are supposed to be cinnamon and ginger. Unfortunately the ginger is very much a goner in my opinion. Heart and base notes are brown sugar and vanilla pod. Now, the vanilla is easily distinguishable, the brown sugar I am not so sure of. There is perhaps a slightly sweet "burnt" sugar quality to it, but, sadly, it quickly fades away and so does the sweetness that I like. In my perfect world the vanilla would have been sweeter and fruitier. I would also like it if it had more "character". By all means, it is very nice, but it basically smells like vanilla and cinnamon the entire time. I've had other scents interact with my body chemistry to produce much more interesting whiffing experiences. So, even though I do like this type of smell I would rather waste my money trying to find something I like even better. As I am approching the end of my 5ml sample I realize that Vanille Canelle reminds me more and more of those little cupcake dolls that were so popular in the early 90ies.

My current HG...I find myself reaching for this day after day, particularly at night, it's so comforting as a bedtime scent, but wonderful during the day as well. It is a spicy scent, but CSP's signature vanilla base is very, very sweet, so it balances it out perfectly. The people around whom I wear the fragrance love it, too, they always think someone's baking a coffee cake :P

Don't let the bakery aspect turn any prospective wearer off, though, it's so much more complicated. The head notes are very sweet, and it does smell rather foody, but there's a beautiful smokiness to it too, that's perceptible in the drydown, but it's never overwhelming. I can see myself wearing this every day for the rest of winter. I haven't loved a vanilla frag this much since iPDF's Vaniglia.

I'd rate this a 3.5. When I first sprayed on Vanille Canelle it smelled like cinnamon scented laughing gas. After it warms up on the skin it really changes. On my skin it's cinnamon and warm floral notes. It's a very comforting scent. It's much like wrapping yourself in a fluffy, warm and favorite comforter on a cold day! Something in Vanille Canelle is spicy, edgy and vibrant as well. Perhaps it's the ginger that gives it that edgy feel. I agree with one of the previous reviewers who stated that Vanille Canelle was great for layering. I wore it underneath J. Lo's Live Luxe and it smelled great. I'm not sure if I will keep my full size, but it's really a nice scent.

Notes: cinnamon, ginger, brown sugar, and vanilla enhanced with fruity, floral & amber notes. Fragrance family: Oriental.

Oh this is sooo good on my skin. I loved it from the instant I sprayed it on. I did pay only $9.99 at Tj maxx for it, would never pay full price. It's delicious, and so yummy. So it's an inviting fragrance that brings others in. Very good to be layered with other perfumes. It's one of my favorite gourmands now. Especially for this time of year! The vanilla and spice are equal, and on me one doesn't overwhelm the other. It can go from almost edible, to more like a spicy perfume.

This is my favorite comptoir sud pacifique fragrance. It is definately not for everyone. I'll be the first to admit it smells sorta= of like a cinnamon scented candle. I swear I get a waxy note from it like demeter's funeral home. I just love it. Keep in mind Halloween is my favorite holiday and Autumn is my favorite season. I am also a huge fan of bath and body works sweet cinnamon pumpkin, so if you like it you will probably enjoy this. I also love how well vanille canelle layers with other fragrances. When it is layered with vanille peach, you get peach cobbler. When it is layered with vanille banana, you get banana spice cake.

Sexy soft vanilla with a touch of cinnamon. It's innocent cinnamon -- not red hots --just like a spinkle of cinnamon on top of a pastry or on rice pudding. It's there but blends so nicely with the whole composition. It's linear from spritz to drydown. One day I tried layering CSP Vanille Cannelle w/ Kiehls Original Musk --- and it's brilliant. It adds a rich earthiness to the mix that makes it purely sexy. Amazing combination that takes this purely innocent fragrance to all out sexy!! Love that!

I really like this scent. A very spicy, but soft cinnamon fragrance. I was a little hesitant to purchase this scent because I pictured a really strong cinnamon fragrance and was just put off by it. But, once I decided I was going to collect every single Comptoir fragrance, I made myself purchase it and I am so glad. It is a soft, comfort, cinnamon scent so don't worry that you will smell like a cinnamon roll. It is very sophisticated, however I did take one lipstick off because as with every single Comptoir fragrance they do not last long. They are best for warmer weather because the heat and humidity makes them stronger and last longer.

I concur with all of the prior reviewer's comments about this gorgeous fragrance. No cinnamon monster here! Just a pinch of spicy cinnamon which melds perfectly with the vanilla and brown sugar notes...there's great balance in this fragrance. The vanilla note is not as powerful as some of the other CSP vanille-based scents (as noted by the prior review as well), but it definitely has that distinct siganture CSP vanille note that I have loved for so many years. A definite winner in my book. I luckily got this as a freebie from Beauty.com, but when my bottle runs out, I will have to repurchase. A great comfort scent for gourmand lovers, and the perfect scent to make you feel warm, cuddly, snuggly in the cold winter months.

I'm sorry other reviewers have had such bad luck with this, but coming from me, Miss Fear of The Cinnamon Monster, that I was even willing to TRY this is a testiment. There is no cinnamon monster on my skin, and my skin can make cinnamon monster out of most things with it. Rather, this is a very warm, dark, rich vanilla/spice. It isn't the strongest vanilla, the Bad Boy vanilla CSP can whup out. In fact, my biggest quarrel with this 'fume is how soft it is. But it is lovely -- requires reapplication, but enjoyable every minute of wearing. On me, anyway, the sillage is intimate, and the fragrance itself is so natural and delicate it comes across completely as my-skin-but-better. I am not getting room spray at all -- if I did, I'd be buying up that roomspray I can tell you!

Yucky. It really does smell like room spray. It smells good for room spray, but not as a perfume. There is nothing to even distinguish it as being perfume, nothing warm or lush. I can't smell any vanilla at all, even after it fades.

If you could bottle sexy, Vanille Cannelle would be one of the variations. It is spicy, sweet, comforting and seductive all at once. It hits the skin with an intense burst of cinnamon and brown sugar, then settles down to a confection of a scent with the previously mentioned notes combining with a delicious vanilla.

It's the perfect come hither scent for the winter months, and one that just makes me think of gingerbread and warm fireside evenings.
A bit unusual in the floral-fruity-candy world of fragrance that is so popular right now, but still a stunner and one that I find myself reaching for quite often.
