Absolutely love this product! I wear it for night outs and it looks very pretty, it accentuates my yellow skin undertone. It is looks very dramatic but classy! The only thing I have to wear a lim balm under because it tends to be drying on the lips but otherwise it absolutely perfect and boost up your face also makes your teeth appear whiter and that just a plus! a bit expensive but definitely worth it.

So, I was at the mac counter trying all the red lipsticks Russian red, ruby woo, Mac red, lady danger, and so on. None didnt match with me at all. In fact, it seems to bring out my imperfection and made my complexion look dull. I'm a nc 30 with yellow undertone with light brown hair. Standing there clueless, a Mac girl came over and suggested I should try this one. It's the perfect red, it's very subtle and not orangey. Very classic and glamorous. I paired it with Mac burgundy lipliner and it look absolutely beautiful.

Classic, dirty and sexy red. It is a very flattering red, most skintones can pull this one of in my opinion. I pair it with half red lipliner. When I was at mac I asked for a very retro old glam red lipstick, he gave me this one. I was in love, wore it that same evening and got lots of compliments. I love the matte finish, such a beautiful finish, my favorite (next to frost). Very retro, with a blue undertone, so perfect for my cool skintone. But I think a warm skintone can pull this off too.

This lipstick makes me feel like a classic vixen. I like to wear it dark with a compact by my side to keep it in check. It's a lot of maintenance by how can you resist such a rich an sensual red? It does tend to dry the list out so I put MACs classic lip glass over it. Luckily my hair is short so I don't get my hair stuck in it. The only down fall is the mark it leave on your coffee cup. Doesn't anyone have a cure for that?

I like the candy smell and would reserve this color for evening dinners although I find this color so passe.

Ok so I love this lipstick because of its colour and matte look so I would probably buy it again however I find that it smears and fades easily so it has to be reapplied many times throughout the day or evening.
As many other commentators pointed out also, it does tend to dry the lips, but putting a small amount of lip balm on the top or bottom after or before applying it really makes a difference...but should you make so many provisions for the "perfect lipstick"? no. I repeat; great colour but a little too dry and not great stay.

This is THE classic dark red llpstick. It is matte so it looks very beautiful and Marilyn Monroe-ish. The money goes to a great cause and it's a classic. Highly recommend!

I use MAC NC42 foundation and the lip color looks great on me. When I first used it, I said yes, I finally found the PERFECT red. I fell in love. I knew this was the one.
It looks very flattering on me. I love wearing it but I hate the fact that it bleeds, A LOT. And I end up reapplying the lipstick 5-7 times a day.
Other than the fact that it melts/bleeds, I love the way it looks on me. I guess that's why I even chose this color.
Great lip color for olive colored skin.

This is the perfect red lipstick for me. I have a lot of the Viva Glam lip products, because all the proceeds go to a good cause (that's why I rated the price as cheap), and this is I think the best of the bunch. It's a red lipstick that isn't too bright, and it doesn't make my lips look smaller like many other reds do. The matte finish isn't too drying. A real gem!

Am a bit torn on this... I'm the tenth picture in the row, by the way, so judge for yourself. I don't know if there's too much brick in this for me... I wanted a classy red that stands out, but still ladylike, not trampy. It's so hard to find a shade that really suits... I think I wanted something less brownish. I just don't know what suits me. I have been wearing this around the house trying to get used to it, but I've been too scared to wear it out so far... Ridiculous, I know.
As for the texture: it lasts OK, but it's extremely drying. I guess that's pretty much a given with these matte lipsticks, but it's quite uncomfortable.
Edit 21 October 2012:
Well, I think this was a bit of a miss. I've worn it out exactly once. It was supposed to be easy to wear because it's not as in your face as Russian Red or Lady Danger or Ruby Woo, but it turns out subdued red is still as scary as proper red but just not as nice. This is too brick-toned for my liking and it makes me feel old and a bit like a wannabe. I don't know if I will be brave enough to wear them but I'm very close to running out and buying both Russian Red and Lady Danger! Party season, here I come...

Here's the thing..like everyone else I've also been on the hunt for the perfect red..have tried different brands but found this to b a HG for me. A red lipstick shouldnt wash out ur complexion, make u look tired or aged, instead make u look healthy n with a revived glow even when ur eyes r getting droopy with sleep.. In other words a red lipstick is a best friend of insonmics :) this is my shade of red which does all those things for me mentioned above. Ive got black hair, medium fair , warm complexion with yellow under tones and pigmented upper lip. Russian red just didn't do it for me something was missing but it was a good red, but it didnt go my complexion looked muddy with it dunno y. This lipstick was is my hero heheh. It's a classic red with matte texture n a very good staying power. Does dry out lips like nude matte lipsticks but it's fine I guess..u can easily tell that I'm in love with it n will buy it again. Give it a try

I have spent a small fortune -literally hundreds of dollars-trying to find the perfect red lipstick. I have black hair, hazel eyes, medium skin tone and it would seem that red would be my most flattering shade, according to nearly every makeup artist and what I read. Ultimately, they are either all too bright, too pink, too orange or too purply for me to bear. This lipstick is really unique. Most reds make me look pale and clownish but because of the brick undertones, my complexion really warms with this red. It is fantastic at night and safe enough for day. Yeah, yeah, it is a little dry but to me that is a plus. Creamy, glossy reds bleed and I would rather have a red stay put on my mouth than slip all over my face. I cannot believe how long it took me to find this lipstick considering how long it has been on the market. It looks best when I wear tinted moisturizer or bronzer-makes my face come alive. Bye bye, clown red lipsticks. This one is classy, sexy and the real deal.

I love everything about this lipstick. It's matte, but easy to put on. Long lasting. Smells fantastic. It's a gorgeous bricky red. I always get compliments when I wear this. I find that this is even wearable during the day since it's not too bright or too dark. A nice even red. Will definitely repurchase.

This is the perfect red--totally flattering. I'm a redhead with very pink skin so I had doubts that red would look good on me, but this one is excellent. The texture is great, but it can dry out after a while. I have to make sure my lips are well-exfoliated and moisturized so the dry bits don't show through the color. It definitely makes up for that with how highly-pigmented it is and how well it stays. I usually don't even use lipliner and I've experienced no feathering and very little bleeding.

I remember when this first Viva Glam came out, maybe 1994. Aids was still a dirty secret (how sad) and Mac bravely, before they were bought by Lauder, had Rupaul pitch this with $1 per tube going to aids foundations. It was scandalous, this was before "vamp" and everyone wore brown or bronw pink (remember Twig and Del Rio?) matte faces, so much powder! Very 90210, the early 90's.
Well, I certainly think it is perfect now and just got it today. Oh, I would never have in 1994, not the self confidence to wear red. This is a tame and perfect red, somehow a true red but with a warm touch of balance in it. Actually recomended by a Mac artist, and my only gripe is God it is dry. I use a lip primer, Smashbox nude lipstick, this, then a lipstick sealent and get a darn 4 hours before any fading but have to put gloss on top, it feels so dry. It is just the perfect red to me, I am N4, but sense this would look beautiful on you fair ladies, very 1930;s.

A true go-to classic!
I literally looked for YEARS for a red lipstick that wouldn't change to orange or pink as soon as I put it on my lips. Exasperated, I thought I'd give Viva Glam I a try & it worked!
Love that it's matte but not drying & lasts almost all day long through eating & drinking.
The color is a deeper, blueish red (although still a true red) that is super flattering without being to bright or making you look like a clown.
I wear red a lot & prefer this color for the fall & winter & wear a brighter Revlon red in the spring & summer but this is a product that every woman MUST have in her makeup kit. Super sexy & very pretty...

I was looking for a classy red to wear on nights out. I asked the MAC sales girl and she said this color is really, really pretty. I was skeptical because it looked kind of brown and garish in the tube. But she insisted it was gorgeous so I took a chance. So glad I did! No wonder this red has been around forever. It's classic and gorgeous. It's not bright, which makes it look classic instead of a "trashy" red. It actually looks sort of retro and pinup-girl. This is the red women in the 1940's wore. I love wearing this with neutral eyes and I get many compliments on it. The matte finish makes it stay and last. My favorite red hands down.

I would give this 4.5 because it is a bit drying. Nothing More to say that hasn't already been said:) This is the perfect neutral red-not too bright and not too dark; it's a blue red with a hint of berry to deepen it. Very wearable for everyday. I'm nc30 Asian w yellow undertones.

This is a shade of red that's a bit deeper than a basic red, its more of a brick red, and I can see this working on many skin tones. This is very heavily pigmented matte lipstick too, so you can wear it full on for a retro look, or put some lip balm underneath to soften the shade. My one peeve about this is that although it goes on smooth and velvety at first, it does tend to dry out my lips, and there's nothing worse than chapped lips covered in red lipstick. It's not my favorite shade of the Viva Glam line, so I wouldn't pick it first from the lineup, but I would buy this again if I was looking for a basic red.
