I wish I would have come to MUA and read reviews instead of reading reviews at the Aveda website. I have a horribly sensitive scalp that reacts to so many products. I went to an Aveda store armed with knowledge about this product and the SA suggested that I buy this shampoo, the matching and conditioner and Dry Remedy. (I ignored her). I think I know why she suggested the Dry Remedy, because this shampoo has made my hair SO DRY. I am still itchy, but not as bad as so many shampoos have made me. I wash my hair with it every few days with this, but I think I'm scaling back to once a week and alternating with another shampoo.I just don't have enough products in my shower (sarcasm). Will not purchase again.

Works well, love the smell. My scalp felt very good after using after a week. The only thing that was not great about it, the cost. I paid $70 for the big bottle. For that, I think it should have came with a pump.

I like this shampoo, it smells nice and it gets my hair clean. I don't have any scalp concerns, I just got scalp benefits because I like the smell better than shampure. I haven't had any problems and my hair seems just as healthy as with any other aveda shampoo. In the winter I trade off between this and dry remedy.

So far so good! I purchased the shampoo & conditioner almost a week ago, and I can say it's made about a 40% improvement on my scalp.
A little backstory: Back before I knew that I was allergic to avocados, I decided to give Garnier Fructise shampoo a try. The main ingredient in that shampoo is avocado oil. I couldn't pinpoint what it was at the time, but as soon as my scalp became painfully itchy and irritated, I stopped using the shampoo immediately, since it was the only thing in my routine that had changed. It's been about two years and since then, I've had this patch on my scalp that become relentlessly itchy and irritated. I was so grossed out by it, and I would honestly do my best not to scratch it, but I would wake up in the middle of the night, literally scratching my scalp to death in my sleep. It would often times get raw and, though it never bled, I could definitely tell there were slight open wounds from all the scratching.
Enter, Aveda Scalp Benefits shampoo & conditioner. I read millions of reviews before buying this because I didn't want to be disappointed. I was so excited at the thought of my scalp finally being normal and non-irritated. Though the patch is not completely healed--which I wouldn't expect it to be in less than a week--I can definitely feel a difference. It doesn't get itchy like it used to, and I don't scratch at it anymore since the itchiness is minimal. The smell of the shampoo was a little different than what I was used to, but I honestly love the scent and kind of wish it lingered in my hair a little longer. My hair looks and feels great, too, so by no means am I compromising the quality of my hair for the healthiness of my scalp. I will definitely update this review once I've used it for a little longer, but so far we're headed in the right direction (:

After years of denial, I have finally realized that I have some kind of scalp situation. It's probably something dandruff related. Most dandruff shampoos smell gross and left my hair feeling awfully dry and unmanageable. I'm giving the scalp benefits line a try before I go the RX route.
I'll review more later when I have more time with the products.

For the price, not that great. I hate the woodsy, manly smell that lingers in my hair all day. Does seem to make my frizzy hair with oily scalp somewhat softer and shinier - but not terribly impressive. There are better products out there - certainly better smelling ones.

The only reason I gave it a 4 is because of the price...when I buy both this and the conditioner together, my bill is over $90. Other than the price, I love this shampoo (and the conditioner)!! I have very oily hair. I was using "drugstore" shampoo and conditioners prior to using this. My hair would be greasy after an 8 hour work day. I was the type of person who would have to shampoo my hair again if I wanted to go out for drinks after work. Not anymore! This stuff really works wonders at keeping my oily hair at bay. Some people didn't like the smell, but I think it's actually quite nice!

I have used Aveda products for years. The Shampure was a go to for a while, but it began irritating my scalp, so I decided with the recommendation of my hairdresser to try the scalp benefits. Not until after I started using this shampoo did I develop dandruff and a VERY itchy scalp. I love the way it smells, but can't stand how it makes my scalp feel. Not getting this one again. I do like the rosemary shampoo however. Much more mild and non-irritating.

I checked out reviews online looking for another flaky scalp reducing shampoo and ended up with this one.
At first, it worked great. I washed my hair every other day with this. Seemed to fix my dry itchy scalp issue. I was using it with the conditioner as well. And now that I've come to almost the end of the bottle, it's extremely drying out my hair and scalp and my hair almost feels like straw. After reading some comments on here, I think I might go to a once a week/few times a month method and see if that works. I'll update this review if that helps. Otherwise, being that this small bottle of shampoo is on the expensive side, I think I'm going to pass on a new bottle.

So my hairdresser told me I had dry scalp and recommended this to me. So my husband bought it for me. At 1st I noticed it made my scalp less dry. I was happy. Then I noticed a over build up of oil. Like I would usually wash my hair every other day and then my hair would end up greasy in one day. OK fine. Now my hair seems extra fragile, breaks easily, falls out more that usual and just feels dry to the touch. I'm not going to use it anymore and it seems like it was a waste of money. It practically ruined my hair! Very dissapointed...

This shampoo burned my scalp horribly. I have a very sensitive scalp (dry, burning, itching) and have to use very mild shampoos. I don't have any dandruff but have a very sensitive scalp and thought that I could use this shampoo for that. I was very wrong. It burned my scalp and actually gave me dandruff. I actually got dandruff from this shampoo.
So if you don't have dandruff but have a very sensitive scalp (dry, burning, itching) then don't buy this shampoo. It's much too strong.

I'm an avid Aveada buyer and recently started to get a very dry itchy scalp. I went into the store to look for a product that could help me and was told this works wonders on dry itchy scalps. After washing once and then also using the Scalp Benefits Conditioner I have to say my scalp is still very dry and itchy (i'll assume it will take longer than one wash to balance things out) however my hair is sooooooo clean looking and shiny!! Was also told this product DOES NOT strip out color!! YAY .. The smell is the Aveda "House" fragrance.. Not a bad price either.. Hopefully it works for my dry scalp!

I have never seen my hair look healthier and shinier, as well as soft... This stuff is one of the best products I have ever tried! Ok, the smell is not the best, but I combine it with Sebastian Hydre wich has an amazing smell (and I only apply it to my ends) and my hair end up smelling amazing anyway! I have oily hair which gets greasy very easily and I can actually skip washing my hair everyday thanks to this shampoo. I love it!

I bought the scalp benefits shampoo, conditioner and the scalp remedy spray has I had a bad case of itchy and dry scalp.
Don't know if it was the shampoo, the conditioner or the remedy spray or the combination of all the products - but this stuff works!
The itchyness and dryness is all gone - and pretty fast as well.
I generally like my shampoos to lather - this hardly did .. so it didn't feel 'smooth' and soft on my hair.
The scent is herbal.. and rather unisex.. not my thing either .. but I'll return to this product again if the itchynerss returns (tho' I'll probally repurchase the conditioner and the remedy spray first to see if they'll do the trick alone.. as I prefer those two products over this one)

its really good for irritated scalp. if you buy the larger size it does make it cheaper and more affordable. the smell is not the best but considering its a treatment shampoo, its not bad. gentle enough for daily use.
Age: 44-55 Skin: Sensitive, Fair Hair: Brown Eyes: Brown
This was very drying to my color-treated hair, so I gave it to my husband, who loves it. I think it's better suited for men with hair-loss issues, and yes, the smell is strong but pleasant in a masculine, woodsy way.
Age: 36-43 Skin: Oily Hair: Brown Eyes: Blue
I dont think this did much to balance my dry, flaky scalp. I've tried it several times, despite the smell. The smell is a very woodsy, strong smell. Like cinnamon bark or something.
Age: 19-24 Skin: Very Dry, Olive, Warm Hair: Black, Curly, Coarse Eyes: Brown
First off, this product smells. Badly. I really can't describe it. Secondly, performance wise, it's ok at best. As far as I can tell, it doesn't have any alcohol, which is great for dry/flaky scalps like mine. It does contain sulfates however. I really couldn't say that this product works any better than every other shampoo or conditioner specifically made to treat dry scalps. I'm just sorry I found out the hard (pricey) way.

I have long, thick hair with an extremly dry scalp. This shampoo is the only thing that has worked for me since Aveda discontinued Sap Moss Shampoo. I would recommend this product to any with scalp issues.
Age: 25-29 Skin: Very Oily, Fair-Medium, Cool Hair: Brown, Curly, Medium Eyes: Blue
ok as a shampoo its pretty good but as a face and body wash THIS IS AWESOME. if you have acne buy this right now it will really improve your skin. I know it sounds weird but it works.
