I liked this at first but then had to stop using it because I had an allergic reaction to it... an itchy rash all along my back and shoulders and wherever else the lather touched. This was the only new product and it stopped when I stopped using this.
It did work fairly well. Better at first but not bad afterward. Did give me more volume and cut the oil. My hair started looking greasy slower than usual at first and I was really excited but then it sort of went back to normal? It's def a harsh shampoo.. you should try the gentle, more moisturizing route first to make sure your scalp isn't overproducing oil due to being stripped. If you're hormonally oily as I suspect I am, this is worth a shot. Perhaps the results will last longer on you than they did me. And hopefully you don't have an allergic reaction like I did.

This shampoo definitely clarifies, however after finding out Matrix is owned by L'Oreal, which animal tests, I have thrown my half-used bottle in the bin. I've gotten this shampoo in my eyes a couple of times over the years, and it burns like you wouldn't believe so I cannot begin to imagine the pain those lab bunnies would have gone through for my vanity.
I've switched to Apple Cider Vinegar which admittedly isn't quite as glamorous, but definitely does the same job, and I'm fairly confident that the loads of SLS in this shampoo cannot be good for my health, short or long-term, so I'm happy to discontinue my use.
If you don't care about the animal testing, I wouldn't recommend using this product more than once every few weeks as it dries out your scalp insanely.

I have super fine hair that gets oily at roots and dry at ends. I shampoo in the morning and by afternoon my hair is flat and greasy. I have tried ALOT of shampoos to dry up the oils and every single one is way too drying. Nothing to use daily. But this one is different. I use it every morning and my hair is oil free ALL DAY! My hair has alot of NATURAL VOLUME because the shampoo clears up all the oil that weighs it down. But just one WARNING: you HAVE to use a QUALITY conditioner with this shampoo! It will dry your ends out if you don't. I use Pureology Hydralight conditioner with it. I only use a small drop of the conditioner (the size of a pea). I blow dry with a round brush (no product) and my fine hair is soft, shiny, and super bouncy all day!

I have extremely oily and fine hair (wash in the morning and by the afternoon or evening it's usually oily and limp)
Pros:
- cheap compared to other professional brands
- large bottle
- lathers extremely well
- controls oil and doesn't make my hair feel limp
Cons:
- not scented nicely like I would have hoped!
- can be difficult to find in larger bottles (I usually go to the salon supplies stores to get this)
I've used many other brands and types of stuff including AG, Matrix, Schwarzkopf, Rusk, TIGI, Joico, etc. and have not been satisfied with any of them. Definitely worth trying if you have oily hair!

This shampoo is OK - definately better than your average pharmacy/supermarket brands but after usint it for almost two months unfortunately I haven't found that it's really 'normalized' my hair or assisted with oiliness. Probably wouldn't re-purchase as it's expensive for little result.

This shampoo, designed with the claim to help balance an oily scalp, actually succeeded in making my hair look and feel greasier after each wash. I definitely couldn't skip a day of shampooing if I was using this, and I really can't stand such a high maintenance product. So, back to Ulta it went. A shame, since I had high hopes for it.

I bought this shampoo for 15 dollars, and with that price I thought that it would be some help for my oily hair. The first time I used it, I fell in love with it because my scalp felt really clean and voluminous. However, as I kept using this shampoo I started to notice that I was losing more hair than usual which made me very upset. It began drying out my scalp and made my hair very frizzy. My scalp became more and more itchy and oily the days before my usual wash. I wasted my money on this product and had high expectations for it. It definitely did not 'normalize' my scalp, because it was very harsh. My mother tried this same shampoo as well for a couple of weeks and noticed the same outcome as I did, she was losing more hair than usual and it dried out her scalp. Do not use this product if you have a sensitive scalp, and do not have high expectations on it when you purchase it.

This dried out my scalp very badly, this and the Biolage Hydrating shampoo. I gave them both a chance for 3 months (to not waste the bottles). Big mistake. It dried my scalp out so badly that it became super oily.

This product seems to work great to balance my oily hair/dry scalp/frizzy/fine/wavy hair. I try lots of other things but I eventually return.

I have really oily hair and this shampoo is one of two of the better shampoos I've used to help the oiliness. It doesn't weigh my hair down and leaves a nice subtle smell as well.

See pic above, because most of their shampoos look the same to me. I used to use Normalizing Shampoo when I was younger (early 20s), and I really loved it. For several years I have moved onto Nioxin since my hair started thinning. I decided to try this again because just as a last resort to reduce oily scalp, but I hate this shampoo. It makes my hair greasy looking by mid day. It is suppose to take away oil. Last year I bought Shampoo One by Paul Mitchell used it twice and put it away, I used that yesterday and my hair is sooo fresh and clean and I even skipped washing my today. I think Shampoo One is still sooo much better alternative to oily hair. I also use dry shampoo to maintain my hair inbetween washings. I feel for all you ladies with oily hair like mine. I am even considering going back on birthcontrol so I can have better quality of life (less oily hair and skin, decrease in breakouts, less sweating, lose water weight, slower hair growth, lighter periods, etc and the list is long). For now however, I am washing my hair everynight with Shampoo One, and using a spray leave in conditioner on my ends, and blowdrying roots.

I hate this product. It was recommended to me by a new salon I went to, because the lady who cut my hair told me that my hair was dry and dull. So I go the normalizing shampoo to "normalize" my hair. There was a buy one get one half off deal so i ended up getting the big bottle of the shampoo and a bottle of the Redkin all soft conditioner. First time I used it, I felt as if it were drying up every oil in my hair and made my hair so squeaky and rubbery, and it was so hard to lather because the shampoo would NOT make any bubbles! I kept using it and I began to notice that alot of my hair was falling out. In hairballs! It was horrible seeing so much hair on the drain and in my hands as I washed the shampoo out and applied my conditioner. But I kept using it since the bottle cost me 23$. ...and everyday the same amount of hair or more would fall out. Some days I would almost cried cause I thought I would soon go bald. I thought, maybe it's just stress, or because the weather is changing my hair is shedding. But then I slept over at my friend's house for about a week and used her Treseme shampoo, instantly the 2nd day there, i noticed less hair falling out. The last night there only 2 or 3 strands fell out.
I hate this product, I would not recommend it, my once soft, asian hair now seems dry and tangled, and I dont see anymore shine than I had before, actually maybe less. and..my hair is like half the thickness it was before. I would never even consider buying it again.

My shoulder length, layered, fine, oily at roots and dry at the ends hair tends to get frizzy and has a slight wave to it. My hair also needs to be washed daily. I was hoping that this clear gel shampoo would balance my hair out. The light, fresh smell is very pleasant and it lathers well. However, I find that even though my hair looks shiny and healthy after drying, I seem to be losing more hair than usual with this brand. Even though I use conditioner from this same brand, my hair gets these tiny tangles at the roots and is hard to comb out; I find that I need to use a wide-toothed comb both in the shower and after drying, and even then I am having this problem. If it wasn't for this one issue, I would have given it 5 stars. Unfortunately my hair is already fine & I can't afford to keep losing it, so the search is on. It cost $15 at Ulta Beauty.

I have long (mid back) color treated hair that is oily on top and dry on the bottom. When I explained my situation to the sales associate at Trade Secret, she recommended this. I purchased the huge bottle for $15. I hate washing my hair every day and I am so jealous of people who can go 3 or 4 days without a wash. When I began using this I slowly started to wean myself off every day washing. This, in combination with dry shampoo, has helped me get to every other day washes. Now I don't even need the dry shampoo on the second day, so I am working up to 3 days with the dry shampoo on the third. It also makes my hair very full after I shampoo. I only wash my roots, though. On my ends I condition with Neutrogena Daily Deep Conditioner, which is my HG conditioner. Seriously, go buy that conditioner!! Anyway, great shampoo. I'm almost all the way through the bottle and I haven't experienced any late onset greasiness. I only gave this 4 lippies because while it worked well, it wasn't exactly the miracle I was hoping for it to be.

Made the mistake of buying a litre bottle and now have to live with the consequences. This dried out my once soft, asian hair and irritated my scalp. I hate that 'squeaky clean' feeling after washing with this shampoo; I felt like my hair had been stripped of all its natural oils. Might work better for oily hair types. Compared the ingredients to cheap Herbal Essence shampoo and the top ingredients are mostly identical. I expected more from this shampoo.

This shampoo does not work and my roots are very oily the next day. Also makes my hair break a lot. You have to use conditioner otherwise your hair will hate you. Waste of money. Drugstore shampoos work better than this.

I have very oily roots but since I have very fine highlighted hair my ends are very dry. This shampoo works wonders for my oily scalp. I really like using it. I use it with the light detaingling conditioner and it works well for being able to comb my hair out gives it lots of slip. But I find after using it for a few weeks my ends start looking pretty bad, but I DO LOVE what it does for my greasy roots. So I use this in conduction with Redken all soft shampoo and conditioner and so far so good. I will keep using this because as I said it works so well for the oily hair problem.

I've used this since I was a kid. Love the smell, it does help with my oily hair. But my hair has gotten oilier as I've gotten older so I've tried to move on to something that will help battle the grease.

I used to really battle an oily scalp, and I didn't like washing my hair every day because I usually keep it long, and it's thick. I saw that this was a normalizing shampoo. It is really easy to lather up and I felt like it cleaned my hair really well. I could get by with washing every other day. It smells wonderful--the classic Biolage scent that I can't describe. I used this shampoo in conjunction with others, and I think the bottle went bad because it did a terrible job of washing my hair after about a year of having it. Be careful not to let yours last too long if you purchase.

I'd have to say this is the only shampoo I've found that won't strip my oily hair completely while still cleaning it. I use this with the hydratherapie conditioner just on the ends of my hair because thats what they reccomend and thats what comes in the package when you buy the big bottles together. I've been using this product for about a year now and my hair is shiny and soft and very healthy looking. I wash my hair every other day, I wish I could go for two but I have yet to find a shampoo that does that. But so far this is my favorite shampoo because it works well and doesnt overdry my hair. My mom also started using it too and found it works well even with her dry hair. Amazing.
