It dried my skin and only cleaned the surface. It did not get rid of any of my acne.

I tried this cleanser over 10 years ago and I remember it was totally awful. The scent is over-powering and the formula is soapy, drying, irritating, and didn't help my breakouts. I never have bought it since. There are ay better products out there.

This product was okay. It didn't really get rid of my acne but it did keep it at bay. It would sometimes dry out my skin if i didnt put enough moisturizer on which irritates me because then it gets flaky in specific areas of my face. I liked the smell because it wasn't too strong and smelt nice. Overall, this wasn't the best cleanser and I'm probably not gonna repurchase.

I have very oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin. I bought this a long time ago and i thought i'd do a review to warn people with sensitive skin of this product.
This dried my skin out completely!!! It looked like i had a white mask on! :'( i even tried to give it some time to adjust to my skin. nope......it made it worse. my skin started to peel! Makeup that looked natural on my skin started looking like a mask :s. I threw this away and switched to SIMPLE kind to skin refreshing wash gel. amazing!!!

This product contains AHAs! Neutrogena has done a terrible job advertising this fact in its packaging. I only noticed this because I read all the info on the back of the bottle before purchasing.
I found the (BHA only) gel to be a touch drying and prefer this product.
I use once a day (morning) with 0.5 to 1 pump to wash my face. I massage into my skin with the pads of my fingers and let sit as long as possible before rinsing.

I went on the Neutrogena Skin ID website and, according to the survey I took, a salicylic acid cleanser was recommended for me. I wasn't about to order anything online, but I went to Ulta to buy a comparable Neutrogena cleanser with salicylic acid. Neutrogena had several cleansers available, but I settled on this one because I like cleansers that foam/lather like soap. Unfortunately, this foam was really foamy - which means that it was too effervescent and thin. The product simple didn't have enough substance to cleanse my skin thoroughly. In fact, after washing my face it still felt greasy. I guess I'll try another salicylic acid cleanser from Neutrogena but after this experience I won't get my hopes up. This is disheartening for me to write, because it's rare that I encounter a Neutrogena product that I don't like.

I bought this product a few months ago, and it worked fine. It didnt dry out my skin, which is oily, and it had lasted a long time. I wouldnt say its the best, or the worst. I probably wont buy again, just because i want to try the pink grapefruit one! But overall an okay product. It kind of feels like once you put it on it absorbs into your face and you have to use a TON to wash your face. But its a pretty good product.

i'm a clean and clear girl but the neutrogen had a clenser that smilar to the clean and clear and i had brought it while it was on sale. i really liked it granted i don't suffer from pimples or anything but it keeps those time of the month pimples away. anyway when it ran out i decided to try this one just to try and i really don't like it and i have to use a ton because my face just don' t never feel clean enough plus it overdrying. will i buy again? N-O

For some reason when i first started using this cleanser it was working great. My skin was soft with no dryness at all. But for some strange reason two months after I stated braking out like with these huge pimples on my forehead. I was wondering why is this going on? Then i stopped using it and my zits are starting to cool down. I'm disappointed I thought it was a great product but then this happen.

I tried this along with the scrub and another cleanser that's in a tube and it has a thicker texture.
I really don't like this "foam" cleanser because for some reason it's just wayyyy too soapy! It's all slippery and I just don't feel that squeaky clean feeling after I rinse.

I used this a few years ago for quite a while and can say that it really helped me at the time- I have since changed my face routine for the better because my face likes benzoyl peroxide as opposed to salicylic acid (but that's another story). You obviously need an excellent moisturizer with this cleanser, and I did not have any problems with severe dryness - so I think it's worth it to try this out.

I tried this product before and it was always overdrying. However, I decided to try it again in a desperate attempt and sure enough it was so overdrying that I had to quit by the third day. I found that the body wash worked better for some reason. I think it contains the same ingredients though.

Wow, I just read a few of the reviews below and my experience sounds very similar. The oil free acne wash is a staple in my household. Everyone from my DH, to my youngest DD, my DS and myself use this on a daily basis. But, we use the gel more often. My son was hooked on the foam because it was more fun but then he started complaining about it being too drying and irritating. I then tried this...several times, with quite a few days apart, sometimes weeks, and the results were sooooo different from when I use the gel and similar to my son's reactions. This irritated the crap out of my skin. It left that swollen, dry feeing that also aggravated my eyes. I dont get why. The gel usually soothes my skin and calms it down. My brother also used this a couple of years back to clear his breakouts and it worked amazingly well for him. Did they change the formula or something?
I dont think I'll repurchase this for me or anyone in my household. I'll stick to the gel or cream formulas.
UPDATE: I deleted my old review and did a new one because I finally figured out why this is so irritating in comparison to the gel or cream version. IT HAS GLYCOLIC ACID! I'm really really surprised since both the gel and the cream form do not have this. The glycolic acid is pretty far down the ingredient list but regardless of the percentage, this could be the reason why it's so irritating an drying to some of us. Makes total sense now.

This completely dried out my skin, like most Neutrogena products. I ended up using the rest as a body cleanser when I get a blemish on my back. It actually has very little product in it since it is so watery and you have to pump the bottle several times to get enough foam, so it's not even a good deal for the money. I would not recommend it for sensitive skin.

I'd really recommend avoiding this product if your skin has even been even slightly sensitive in the past.
I used this for three consecutive nights - first two were fine, but within a minute of using this product on the third night, my skin had broken out in the most ridiculous red rash! The bumps lasted about 4 days, and then the top layer of my skin just flaked off - not a good look at all.

Really i dont know where to start. This product was a complete failure for me. When i first went to the dermatologist, he made me wash my face with this. It made it totally dry and ashy. Ugh! I've been using it for a while and it didnt do any wonders for me. My face is still the same as how it was before and im still looking for the right product for my face.

Overall, I really like this product. It's kind of a gel, and not as liquidy as I expected. I this at night and a scrub in the morning so that I don't dry out my skin too much, since it is pretty drying. I would not reccomend this to anybody with less than moderatley to very oily skin because again, even after one use my skin was left pretty dry. Since my skin is VERY oily, I need something to keep the grease at bay. Once a day is enough to keep my skin pretty dry, but I'm pretty sure twice would just cause flaking and peeling like some other acne products.
A lot of people are saying that this is way too drying, so again, this is not for anybody who doesn't have very oily or acne prone skin.
I'm gona buy it again! Yup, good product!

I will NEVER BUY THIS AGAIN!! When I was in jr high/high school I tried it a few times and it did nothing but dry my skin out/acne stayed the same/skin would feel irritated. Well I decided to give it a try and what happens the exact same thing but 6 years later. Only buy this if you have extreme OILY skin.

I really like this cleanser.
I've only been using it for a week or so, but have already seen a difference in my skin. My breakouts (yes its that T.O.M) have been controlled a lot more, and it leaves my skin soft and smooth.
I've seen comments saying that it leaves their skin very dry? I haven't had any problems with this, however, my skin does feel a quite tight after this. It's not to the extent that i'll stop using it, but for that it's not perfect so i deducted a lippie.
Will update if anything changes.
But would repurchase :)
UPDATE:
As you can see, my first review with this product was really positive. After using it for around 2 weeks now, it's terrible. it's actually causing my skin to break out more: thanks to this stupid cleanser i have a HEAP of red bumps on my cheeks, and its making my skin incredibly dry.. to the point of it FLAKING and PEELING. My skin is by no means sensitive... this is just.. appalling.
God it's awful. NEVER EVER BUY THIS!
