ETA 12/18/09: I won't deduct lippies since this product was good while it lasted: it lasted 4 months! Dried up in the pan, and I protected the weird container, closed it as tightly as possible, and put it in a box in a drawer. All I wound up with was a sllck feeling, no pigment, and a brush which was oily. Tried with my fingers; worse. Moved on to MUFE F&B for now. If you want to use this product for the short term, it works very nicely. Just don't commit to it cause it's not gonna stay in the pan.
I purchased this foundation from drugstore.com for a reasonable price; liquid foundations look maskey on me and mineral makeup enlarges my pores, so I thought I'd try this cream foundation.
The color is Warm Champagne which is gorgeous on my pink-toned skin (NW20), and the texture is luscious. I took off a lippie for two reasons: after a few weeks of using this product several times a week, I have developed a row of whiteheads on my chin from it (not a tragedy but not great); and the packaging is weird. It closes with a slide-tab which is difficult to secure. Half of the time it is not fully closed shut and the prouduct can easily dry out without your knowing it.
I like the look of this cream foundation on my skin. I need to cover a few splotches of melasma on the top of my cheekbones and it pretty much does it plus it provides a very flawless finish to my skin which, minus the splotches is good skin. I apply with a pointed brush from Cover Fx and the effect is almost air-brushed. When I need to touch up areas (blowing my nose destroys the entire application there), I use my fingertips. It is quick, simple, easy, and a pleasure to use because I see my face transformed into Me, But Better.
Of course, this product is being discontinued because prescriptives is being discontinued. I have ordered a tube of MAC Studio Sculpt and I will attempt to alternate each product. The cream formulation is, for me, a wonderful look on my face, and I want to save this product for Christmas photos. It really does work as a "photocrome."
Maybe some other company will come up with a similar idea and formulation for gals like me who prefer something other than liquid foundations.
I would buy it again but since it is a product of the past, I prefer to leave it there when I have finished this round compact of it. It will last into the New Year and probably by spring it will be histoire.

I am in my 50's. Very imperfect skin. I have two photos on my fridge of me and my dog, Jake, who is gone. Taken at Petsmart about 10 years ago. Didn't expect to be in photos, but had to hold Jake. My skin looks great, thanks to PhotochromeI am devastated about PX shutting down. Will stock up as much as I can afford to.

I adore this foundation. It is a silky-textured cream, easy to pat on with your fingers or stipple with a sponge. It provides medium coverage and blends right in with my skin, somehow becoming invisible once applied. It doesn't break me out or dry me out, both of which are complete foundation deal-breakers for me. I use this over the rosaceated areas on my midface and then use Smashbox Halo to cover the rest. I've never felt so good in my makeup as I do with this combo! It seems a small amount of product for the price when you first purchase, but I've been using it nearly daily for at least 3 months and I have lots and lots left with no pan showing. I don't layer it or apply with the enclosed sponge, both of which would use up product sooner, I suspect. It does not contain sunscreen, which is fantastic for those of us (me, for example) whose skin can't tolerate it. Have a Prescriptives MA color-match you and you'll be pleased as punch and gorgeous, too.

I'm adding this to the HG list! I only have 2 other foundations as my HG and this is at number 1. Love how this looks on my skin because it looks exactly like it minus the red marks. It applies like no other foundation I've tried, it feels silky when I apply it with fingers and it just feels comfortable on. It takes about a minute to put it on my cheeks and forehead, really quick and flawless look. I think the coverage is great, medium to full. Its medium with one light layer and can be layered easily without a caky look. I usually wear ivory in prescriptives and the warm ivory is a perfect and extremely natural match. I have really oily skin and I love how this foundation lasts all day while feeling comfy on and not drying like some oil control foundations out there. I powder and blot throughout the day but I'm happy with the way this foundation looks at the end of the day. It won't last through a hot and sweaty run but nothing ever has on me and thats just fine, it does last during hot days with moderate activity though. I don't reapply this during the day, it just made me really oily when I tried that out once. One light layer covers my red marks and lasts all day long, this is so easy to apply and go and so natural on. I can't believe I haven't tried this out before, I'm glad Prescriptives brought it back!

I'm upping the lippies from three to five on this one. I've been using this product now for several weeks, and I've been very pleased with it. It's sheer, has a fine texture, gives good coverage, doesn't break me out or do weird things on my skin. It has a dewy finish, which I like, yet it isn't slick or shiny. I do use a primer under it (MAC's), so I get a really flawless look. I like the ease of application with this. I'd purchase again.

i think it is excellent product...:)
i used flawless finish foundation but by accident i broke the bottle and the i lost it.. i went back to px counter as tehy are the only ones where i can get blue undertoned foundations.. so i went there and they recommended this that it will be easy to use with buildable coverage.. i have to say it is a pretty good stuff.. blends easily good to wear especially on my very very dry skin.. do not have to touch up all day... ok, the packaging is a bit big but as long as the product is that good i can live with it:)) will buy it again!

Well, I really wanted this product to work for me, since I'm always in search of a good oil-free, non-acnegenic foundation that still provides solid, full coverage. But unfortunately, as a medium brown-skinned Black woman, whenever I find a great product, they usually don't have my shade. Probably a bit harder because of my skin type as well. And this particular product was no exception.
Application was smooth and no skin reaction, but unfortunately the darkest hue (Warm Toffee) was still too light for my complexion. It covered absolutely nothing (probably due to the light color). Made my skin look ashy. According to other reviewers though, it seems to work well if you can get a color match. It was surprising though, since Prescriptives is known for color matching and their fairly varied set of hues. I currently use Prescriptives VM in Fresh Ginger (perfect match for me), but I wanted some other options.
The case was sort of strange as well; mind you, if the color had worked, I wouldn't have really cared. But the compact doesn't lock very easily, so you want to make sure you're careful with it (makeup could dry out if you leave it open by mistake).
Only 3 lippies for Prescriptives Photochrome and some advice (include darker hues). Hope this helps you!

I bought this for the first time 3 weeks ago at Dillards. The lady that helped me told me that they had just come in. Anyway, I had heard that Prescriptives was all about color matching so I decided to give it a try. As a light skinned, african american woman, it seems to be very hard to find the right shade, except for Mac which I have been using for years (Studio Fix). I decided that I needed something a little creamier for the winter, but I didn't need full coverage, well the MA tried this one on me and we were able to find an exact match. Wow! I really wasn't expecting that! I knew that if I didn't I would be able to do the Custom Blend, if needed. This lasts all day for me and I don't have to touch up even though I bring my compact with me just in case. It really doesn't require much effort. I use a foundation brush first, then smooth it in with the sponge. Can someone explain to me why there's this big square space in the compact for a triangular sponge that just barely fits? I do think the compact is big and unnecessary. A round compact where the sponge fits in the bottom is just as good. I really don't care about the compact, it's what's inside that matters and what's inside is what I love and I don't have the need for a finishing powder. I really do love this foundation! P.S. When you first put this on, it looks really oily, but it just takes a few minutes since it is cream to powder.

Photchrome is absolutely back!! Bought last week (1-2009) at Dillards.
I agree with previous poster that the packaging could be better. There is no reason that it shouldn't be refillable.
Overall, I like this foundation. I used it years ago and was surprised to see that it was back. I really like that you can build the coverage. I have used the sponge that it comes with as well as the foundation brush. I could use either and have no problem although the sponge has a strong latex smell to it that I don't really like, but the coverage seems to be the same either way.
I think the color match is great. I was using Px Flawless prior to this and wasn't liking how it made my pores look. Photochrome covers my pores well as well as some redness around my nose.
Do I think it's my HG? Not sure. It just might be :)

Best foundation I've ever used! Covers up my rosacea without looking cakey. However, they told me it was discontinued! Despite the reviews below that say it's back, they didn't have it at Nordstrom 2 months ago? Actually, I took the advice of a previous review and found CG's AquaSmooth makeup is somewhat similar, but the color selection not so good:(

Love this product.
Just re-bought it.
First used it ages ago and didn't realize it was back until recently!
I had been using the Px mineral makeup and liked it, but I heart Photochrome!
Perfect coverage for my skin, which I need to even out redness.
I'm pretty blemish-free (age 37!) and I love being able to build my desired coverage. Match is unbeatable.
Forget the sponge. Don't use it. It soaks up too much product.
I use the Px foundation brush and/or my clean fingertips.
Compact is stupid, more plastic than necessary and it's not re-fillable?!?!? And the locking mechanism is dumb too.
But, the product inside is gold to me.
Glad to be reunited w/ my Photochrome.

Hi all! I just want to CONFIRM that Prescriptives is bringing this product back...it was originally scheduled for July 08, but due to the mineral makeup launch has been pushed back to late September/October 2008!! I work for the company, so we got the scoop a couple months ago. They aren't changing a thing...it will be the original formula, original packaging :)

This was my HG of foundations, and I'm still mourning the loss. The previous reviewer stated that it's coming back and I really hope it's true! I also hope that they keep to the original formula. This was the perfect foundation, it covered very well, left my skin looking smooth and even and the best part, it really did look great in pictures. Most foundations leave me looking yellow and sallow in pictures, but this foundation never did. Again, I'm hoping and waiting for it's comeback, until then, I'm still searching for a new foundation.....

It's discontinued so for me to say that I won't buy it again is moot point but I believe people can still find it on ebay or outlet stores. I bought this years ago because I wanted SPF for my foundation. Because it's cream foundation, it blended beautifully, but also made me an oil slick by mid day. I *hated* the compact because you can't really close it properly. I never did finish using the foundation and earlier this year, I threw it out since it was just taking valuable space in my train case.

Updated 10/09: Okay now I officially DID burst into tears when I heard the news about Prescriptives going under. The Macys lady must think I'm insane.
I LOVE the formula, even though the compact and I never got along. I was about to burst into tears when the lady at the counter told me that it was discontinued. Damn you Prescriptives!

UPDATE: IT'S BACK! I bought one last week and everything is the same. My skin has changed so much. My acne (probably induced from other foundation) and is gone now. My skin loves this stuff and the coverage is awesome.
I loved photochrome makeup and I'm thankful I bought two extra compacts when I found out it was discontinued. I don't think I'm ever going to buy Prescriptives make-up again. They love discontinuing HG foundations and replacing them with no-coverage sheer "foundations."
I usually don't buy drug store foundation but I've found that Cover Girl "CG Smoother" foundation works a lot like photochrome. It's only 7 dollars and a little goes a long way. You have to wear moisturizer under it.
