I join the chorus of (mostly) positive reviews for this Ultra-Hydrating Shampoo. Like some of the others, I tried the Hydrating version and it did actually seem to make my hair crunchy and drier over time. This however, is a wonderful product which makes my formerly dry hair feel and look soft and silky, with renewed shine and bounciness. I used this in conjunction with the regular conditioning Balm and the frizz-free shine serum; what a great combo! I absolutely love the classic Biolage scent and all of the natural ingredients in this shampoo; it's really awesome and can't believe how many great products now exist in the this line since I first used it in 1990. Great stuff.

UPDATE: this shmpoo ruined my hair! I used it for a week and my hair felt coated with a heavy wax. My ends felt gummy. I had to wash my hair with antiresidue shampoo for 3 days just to start to break it up. Now my hair is dry and coarse and reacts horrible to other shampoos. Even Pureology makes my hair look crispy and knotted at the ends and greasy on top. I will never use biolage products again! Hair: fine, shoulder length, letting color grow out, greasy roots, dry ends.
I've been using the biolage color care shampoo but that dried my hair out. I switched to the ultra hydrating to put moisture back in my hair. I've been using it for a few days. It has the perfect amount of moisture an my hair isn't greasy! It gives my hair shine too. My hair is super soft and I can actually run my fingers through my hair! But this shampoo doesn't give the "silky" look or feel I was hoping for. My hair is flat and doesn't really move. If your looking for something just to add moisture this is the perfect shampoo. You'll have to use other products to give your hair the "silky" look. I use the biolage detangling solution with it (a super light weight conditioner) and a few drops of matrix exquisit oil before I blow dry.

I prefer this over the regular hydrating shampoo, since the regular hydrating shampoo can be drying over time. It smells great to my nose (classic Biolage scent) and cleans well without drying out my hair or making it feel stiff before I apply conditioner. My curls remain intact without losing bounce, shine, or volume. I use a nickel size amount and concentrate on my scalp only. I have also used the GVP version and that worked well too.

My hair has been getting worse as far as manageability over the last year. After I had my son and also after getting my hair done last year, it just seemed to be at it's absolute worst. DRY, completely unmanageable, tangly and frizzy. Nothing I tried worked. I tried all kinds of shampoo and conditioners, leave in conditioners, sprays. You name it! I started trying to comb my hair out with conditioner in my hair while I was in the shower, and it felt like the comb wanted to break each time because it was just a tangled rats nest. I finally found this blog and found out about Biolage Ultra Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner Balm. Let me tell you, it has made a world of difference with my hair. I can get a comb through it no problem in the shower, and I don't have to spend an hour after the shower trying to get my hair under control. My hair is softer and more manageable, and I am absolutely thrilled! I really thought there was no hope for my hair!

I was recommended to use this shampoo by my hairdresser and Im glad she did. I have thick long curly/wavy fizzy, 'Blasian' hair and I lost hope in finding a shampoo that is strong enough to smooth my thick hair. First time I ahve used it my hair was soo soft and smooth I couldnt get over it its now my HG product. I have been using it for a couple of months now and it still has the same effect.

I. LOVE. THIS. SHAMPOO. When I say I have dry hair, believe me, it is DRY. It's super long, naturally very curly, super thick, and all around just a pain to deal with. I've always had issues with frizz and that gross hay-like consistency dry, curly hair tends to suffer from. Then one day after getting some highlights put in, I noticed that my salon was having a sale on Biolage. A former coworker, also of the Dry and Curly Hair Club, had told me years earlier that she swore by the stuff, so I decided to give it a try. And you know what? She was absolutely right. It's awesome. Pricey, but a little goes a long way even with my really long, thick hair, so it's well worth the price. I don't wash my hair every day anyway, since my PITA hair won't tolerate it, but using this stuff every other day or so keeps my hair really soft and nicely moisturized. I still usually have to follow up with a curl-defining mousse to tame the frizz, but not nearly as much as I would without Biolage. I'm a fangirl. A total fangirl.

I love this shampoo. I have long, curly, medium-thick hair that I straighten frequently. I have always struggled with frizz, flyaways, split ends, and dryness, but this shampoo makes my hair so soft and shiny. The only downside is the price, but the result is completely worth it.

No matter what I try for my hair..I always come back to the biolage ultra hydrating because out of the tons of products I've used these have always made my hair look at feel the best. I perfer this shampoo over the regular hydrating, as the regular has sodium LAURYL sulfate(much more harsh than laureth) and laureth sulfate, and it honestly does feel more drying than hydrating. This one only has laureth sulfate, which honestly doesn't seem to bother me at all. I need to just stick with this instead of trying other things because I truly think it is THE BEST.

Okay so far so good. I am usually pretty neutral about shampoo, it just doesn't impress me but I have been using the Hydrating Balm in this line for a while and I decided to give the shampoo a go because it was on sale(it came with the ultra-hydrating conditioner which I will review later). I am actually pretty impressed so far, my hair feels softer but what really has me liking it is that my curls look like frizz free soft curls. Like the way people with straight hair look when they curl it (think Dita Von Teese when she curls her hair) it's that smooth perfect curl that I have never been able to get before. I have not changed any other product besides my shampoo and I am amazed that a shampoo would make this much of a difference. It hasn't been that long 2 weeks or so, I am hoping these results remain consistent. I wore my hair down twice already and got a compliment!!!
Other than the results the scent is fine, tons of lather, rinses clean but without that "squeaky clean". The bottle I bought is huge, I wish it had a pump, I keep dropping it in the shower. Would repurchase.

This is the BEST shampoo for THICK, COARSE, DRY, FRIZZY hair. After just one use I noticed the difference it made in my hair, it felt so much softer and moisturized than before. I definitely recommend this if you have the same hair type as me, you will LOVE it!!!! Also, try it with the ULTRA HYDRATING BALM :)

Love this Product! I have ultra dry, fine, chemically treated hair. While I was browsing Ulta another customer recommended this to me, so, knowing Ulta's return policy, I bought it. It doesn't make my hair feel rough/dry after I use it like most other shampoos, even after I shampoo my hair twice (which I almost always do). It actually leaves my hair feeling moisturized-something I never thought a shampoo capable of. Works well with the corresponding conditioner. I will definitely continue to use this product.

Not for me. Made my hair feel extra dry. The regular Biolage Hydrating shampoo works best for me, the ultra seems to coat it so that my conditioners can't penetrate. The frizz factor was terrible. I gave it to my friend though, who thinks it's the business for black/ afro-caribbean hair.

Works great! Smells great! I will buy this for the rest of my life! My hair feels so amazingly soft just after one use. I also always process my hair and I highlight my hair, and my hair is extremely weak. This saves my hair from becoming dehydrated!

This is an excellent shampoo. I read the other reviews, and I think the mixed reactions are because not everyone who used it has very dry hair. This is probably not a good shampoo if you have an oily scalp, and it seems to have a lot of ingredients, so it's not for people with very sensitive skins. The bottle says it's for thick, dry hair. My hair is now quite fine, but it is very dry. I have hypothyroidism-if you do, you will know how hard it becomes to keep your skin and hair hydrated. I used to colour it some years ago, and it is fairly long-upto my bra strap. It is curly and wavy and can get very frizzy. My hair felt like straw, and I didn't want to spend the extra money on Kerastase, which is the only shampoo that compares. My hair now feels MUCH softer and smoother. It's much less frizzy. It has a really nice smell, and it's thick, so it goes a long way. It's not very cheap, at least here, but for the results, it's not too bad at all. The negatives: my hair doesn't shine much still (too damaged still?), and it does nothing for my Seborrheic dermatitis afflicted scalp. But I'm so grateful to have my hair feel normal that I don't mind.

Great shampoo! After a course of Accutane I became afraid of shampoo because my hair was so dry and fragile. Conditioning cleansing only made my hair feel gross and it added to the frizz. I've been using this shampoo for a week and my hair feels so much stronger and moisturized. It is soft, shiny, and there is noticeably less frizz. I recommend using the matching conditioner, too.

This shampoo, along with the ultra hydrating balm, SAVED MY HAIR!!! I do a full foil every 10 weeks, and recently had seen my hair really drying out no matter what i did... i only wash my hair every 3 days, and it still was severely dry. This product literally transformed my hair back to its luscious soft self!! I would definitely reccomend this to anyone who has thick, dry hair! Try Salonsavings.com, their prices are much better then salons!

Simply put, this shampoo is the best in the world! I have been using this on and off since I was a child. On and off because I still like to try what is out there but ALWAYS end up coming back to biolage. The smell is great, unoffensive and soothing. I love this shampoo! This works far better than any $30 or $50 shampoo out there!.

I have used Biolage and other Matrix products nearly my entire life. Matrix is the main brand that my Mom sells in her shop, so we always had this shampoo at home. It is safe for any type of hair. It cleanses without stripping the hair shaft. It is conditioning without being heavy. It lathers well. The scent is wonderful, fruity and clean. I trust Matrix as a brand and this shampoo will always be a staple in my home.

Awesome!! I love this stuff. I have tried everything - usually loyal to Kerastase or Fekkai, but this shampoo is better (and cheaper). It never fails to give produce a luxurious lather, and does not strip your hair. It reduces frizz and smells fabulous! Highly recommend.

Yes!!! I had been using the regular one for a while...then I was like ohhh why don't I switch it up and go with Redken b/c they use it at the salon!! BAD PURCHASE....my hair looked so blah!!! I've been using it since October...when I got a new hair cut and I just felt like something was missing. My hair never looked great! So finally I decided to go back to Biolage...omg...ONE SHAMPOO and I've noticed a huge different in my hair. I am biracial (white and black) and have really curly hair. My hair has shine now and little cute ringlets that are silky. So happpy!! I can't wait to straighten my hair to see it's gorgeousness!!
