Just got this and wish I had done so sooner. I always curl my lashes but have to heat a traditional curler with a blowdryer or hot water. This is so much less hassle and worked better.

I guess my eyelashes are really, really stubborn because even with this, it still doesn't curl easily. But I'll take what I can get. What I do is apply mascara, curl with metal lash curler, then apply the heated curler, then repeat the last 2 steps until I have a curl that will stay. The mascara melts off a little and I reapply a very light layer after the curl sets. As the battery dies, the curler gets less hot and I have no problem pressing it against my lids. But once I put a new battery in, it gets super hot and hurts if I press it against skin--so be careful. As this product is a little high maintenance to use (make sure to keep a Costco size supply of batteries nearby), I would only recommend it if your lashes are very stubborn.

This is a great tool for people with thick straight lashes that don't hold curl. I am obsessed with curling my stubbornly straight eyelashes, some of which point down and back into my eyes!!! So, unfortunately I cannot go anywhere without an eyelash curler. Curling them makes me feel and look more awake. Anyways, the best old school curler I used was the Shu, but after an hour, the curl was gone. So I was recurling my lashes with the Shu all day, and I still got that crimped effect. Plus you're not supposed to use a traditional eyelash curler on lashes that already have mascara on them, because it can pull your lashes out.

With the Japonesque, I am so excited to report that my lashes are now staying curled ALL DAY! Important thing to note is that I use the heated curler AFTER I 1)use the Shu and 2) apply mascara. I press the heated curler into the root of my pre-curled mascara coated lashes and very, very slowly slide up along the length of the lashes. It does take some patience, but the results are GREAT. I think that heating up the mascara changes the property of the mascara, so that it actually holds the shape you're creating. Kind of baking it into position, but not really, because it's not that hot. It kind of melts then dries it the upward position as you slowly move the heated curler upwards. I've been experimenting with different mascaras, which seems to make a difference. If you're going for a thick spidery lash look (not my preference, but...) you will have to re-apply more mascara because the Japonesque does remove a little mascara on it's way up.

The batteries do wear out quickly, that's true, but it's still the best method/tool I've found for my evil little straight lashes. It's the only thing that works that lasts all day. I wish there was something that worked for me that only took 2 seconds and didn't require batteries, but at this point, there isn't.

I definitely recommend that you try it - the price was comparable to a Shu eyelash curler, and you might end up feeling like me- that it's the best thing I've found for makeup in a long time.

I LOVE this curler. I was a little bit skeptical when I first bought it and thought that I would quickly revert back to my regular eyelash curler, but I have not gone back since I bought this product. I originally bought it because I had gotten eyelash extensions and you are only allowed to use a heated curler not a regular one, but I love how easy this is to use and most of all it can go everywhere with me. The only negative thing I could say about it is that it runs out of battery quite fast but if you keep a couple extra with you in your purse then you're good to go!

I really like this product. My lashes are really long...but really straight. I don't like the traditional curlers because the leave the crimp marks and I always manager to pinch my skin. This curler is really easy to use and it really works! Like some of the other reviewers have stated, it does go through batteries rather quickly, but I keep a couple of extra ones in my makeup case. It's design has a really convenient feature in that, when you put the cap back on after using it, it automatically switches it off.

I've been using this for about a month now, and I really like it! It does go through a lot of batteries, but I always have spares on hand so it's not really an issue for me. You can tell when the battery is out of juice when the curler doesn't heat up as "hot" as it usually does. I have very straight lashes and I absolutely hate lash curlers because they ALWAYS pinch me and leave me with bent lashes. It was always such a hassle for me, so I quit curling my lashes all together. But this heated curler does a great job of giving me a nice, natural looking curl. The curl doesn't last forever, but the device is so small, I could carry it around in my purse if I wanted to and just touch up. It's not too hot because i've had it against my eyelid and it didn't hurt me, but I know different people are sensitive to different levels of heat so yeah...just depends on your eyes. I use it almost daily and I would probably buy another one if this one broke (hopefully it doesn't lol) and I got it for $18 at Ulta.

EDIT: I've been using this for almost a year now and it still works great! I hardly wear eye shadow anymore on a daily basis, but I do use mascara and this makes my eyes always look great.

I have straight, Scandinavian hair and eyelashes that point toward the floor. I've always hated the time and effort necessary to curl my eyelashes with a regular eyelash curler so I ordered this hoping for something simpler. Japonesque, where have you been all my life?!! This little gizmo is amazing and curls my lashes quickly and easily after one quick coat of mascara. I turn it on just before I apply my eye shadow and it's hot by the time I've applied a light coat of mascara. One or two swipes on each eye, holding for a few seconds, and my lashes stay curled all day long. So much less hassle than the classic pinch curler, which half the time pinched my eyelid. About the size of a tube of mascara, the mini heated eyelash curler fits easily into a makeup bag or purse. I wouldn't be without mine. Love it!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this curler!! I was super skeptical because it seemed like it would just push the lashes up rather than give it a curl. Thankfully I bought it at Ulta because there was a coupon. It's AMAZING, it gives my stubborn, straight Asian lashes curl. Before I could only use waterproof mascara because washable ones undo my curl and it hurt to curl afterwards. Now I can wear washable mascara and still have a curl! Yaaay no makeup remover!! One coat of mascara, curl it with this (takes 30 seconds for each at at most) and I have glorious noticeable eyelashes! Highly, highly recommend. If it's too pricey I'd look for some Ulta coupons, (usually save 3.50+ on purchases 10 or more) and if you don't like they'll take it back =D I don't work for Ulta but I loooove their flexible return policy, btw.

I have had this curler for a good 6 months now and it is great. If you have eyelashes that curl in all directions or some that curl and some straight ones, This heated curler helps control them. It is awesome when the battery is brand new and it gets really hot. Unfortunately the power does not last very long. A rechargeable battery is a good thing to have with one of these because if you use it daily you might need a new battery a week or more. I have thick long black eyelashes and this definetly helps make them all go the same direction. If you want a super dramatic curl, you may need to use a regular curler along with this because this gives off a more natural slight curl. If you try and comb it through with mascara it will melt it off so make sure you dont, unless you have a clump then it works wonders.

I'm amused because the person below me is my real-life best friend and also the person that gave me this fantastic beauty of an eyelash curler. I use my Shu, apply my mascara, then use this. I always end up with nice swooping lashes and the curl lasts all day. This does go through batteries fast but I always have spares in my makeup bag so it's no big deal to me. I love this curler and would absolutely get it again.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT! Even after using my friend's Shu curler, I still prefer this item. I turn it on while I'm applying my concealer and when I'm done it's all hot and ready to go. I curl my lashes prior to mascara and shortly after mascara goes on. The curls are large and swooping. Nothing terribly dramatic, but I'm sure I could force it to be if I wanted it to. It doesn't get HOT HOT, but pretty warm, nothing a normal person couldn't handle. What's super nice is that throughout the day if you wanna add a little extra curl you can. It says that for best results to curl lashes after mascara goes on, and you can't do that with a regular curler.

I've been using this Japonesque heated eyelash curler for years and still love it! I'm on my second one, actually. The first one cracked when I forced the cap on instead of turning it off first by sliding the power switch down. I used a rubberband to fix it until I eventually got another one. It uses 1 AAA battery and I always keep extra batteries in my makeup bag. It's the size of a tube of mascara and is very easy to travel with. I turn on the curler to let it heat up while I apply my first coat of mascara on both eyes. I use the heated curler to then curl the mascara'd lashes and it also clears off any clumps of product. I can easily add another coat of mascara after that. I usually don't have to curly it again after the second coat. Forget the crimping lash curlers! My Asian lashes are short, sparse and stick straight so this saves me every time!

I bought this product and used it for about 3 months. The short summary is that is puts a non-crimpy TEMPORARY curl on your lashes. The longer version: Japonesque products are sold at Trade Secret. The mini heated curler is about the size of a tube of mascara, so it easily tucks away in a purse or bag. The silver band around the center makes it a liitle easier to identify mixed in with other items. It uses a single AAA battery--FREQUENTLY. Changing every 2 weeks would not be unusual. It is a wand-style instrument, not a crimper. It is used by heating, then pushing up/back against the base of the lashes. 30 seconds or more is ideal. It will not burn you, but occasionally feels warm. You can use it before or after mascara, but it seems to work best afterwards. The heated curler works, but generally needs to be repeated every 2 hours or so, taking a little mascara with it each time.

Here is why I won't rebuy;
1. It burned out after three months. Not a battery issue--the coil failed.
2. The results are temporary at best.
3. It wastes an awful lot of energy.
4. It is not superior to a good manual curler (I compared it to the Revlon and the Shu)

I was IN LOVE with this eyelash curler right from the start! I bought this on sale at Ulta 4 months ago and it worked wonders on my stick straight, stubborn lashes. I was never good at using the traditional eyelash curlers to achieve a curl - I got more of a crimp if anything. The heated curler came with a AAA battery, so that's a plus! Now the negatives about this product - the heat is only strong enough to curl my lashes when the battery is fresh. So I've had to replace the battery on average every 3 weeks - even though the battery tester says there's still about 50% power left. Another negative - the light indicator broke just 2 days ago, so I thought the whole thing was broken, but turns out, it still works, but the light won't turn on anymore. Considering this, I still love the curler, but now I'm going to try the old fashioned curler + hairspray + blowdryer method.

WOW - I tried this out before reading these reviews and I'm glad I did. I LOVE this lash curler. I gave up curling my lashes YEARS ago because I got tired of the "L-shaped" look and accidentally catching my eyelid in the eyelash curler (see, I'm a clutz!). I did not have any trouble using the heated lash curler.

I had mascara on when I curled my lashes. It seems to be holding the curl really well. It also can be used to separate lashes w/ mascara - which I hate when the lashes get clumped. The extra bonus? I can also curl my bottom lashes - try that w/ a traditional lash curler!

As far as the durablity of the lash curler - well I don't think I would toss it in my purse for daily use - but I think it will last longer than a year. If it doesn't, I'll repost and let you all know! LOL!

I normally don't post - but I was so excited about this product - I just love it when SOMETHING WORKS - that I wanted to share my experience.

Great idea, poor deliverance. It did manage to bend my lashes in an upward fashion, but as soon as I applied mascara, the "curl" fell. No matter how long I held that wand there, or how long I let the curl cool or what type of mascara, it just didn't hold. The wand started to fall apart quickly, and the battery just never seemed to have enough juice in it. Not a great design. Definitely not worth the money.

This was nice, while it lasted. My issue is that the battery compartment half of it split and the unit would not stay together and power on. Even taping it with gorilla tape around the split did not help because the heating/curler part of the unit kept slipping out. I will stick to more cost effective versions of lash curlers. To buy one of these evey year would really add up.
