I had to have this duo based on the gorgeous shimmery cool brown shades, and because it swatched like a dream. However, application isn't quite as dreamy - there is more glitter fallout than I expected, and not as much colour payoff as expected. Nice shadows, but not worth the price IMO. I'd rather use my similar shades of Dior, UD, or even MAC.

Its not often I feel violated from makeup purchases but with this one I feel like they saw me coming! I loved shiseido's refil eyeliners (that was their last saving grace....gone) so faithfully bought this duo thinking it would carry across their range. I liken this to revlon velvet eyeshadows very very similar in colours and textures however you are paying a gold tooth for shiseido. Here's the essentials imho - poorly pressed (ive barely used it and its well hit pan -extreme fall out worse than any ive seen) colours in duo are very close in colour so you can't do any real 'effects' with them, poorly pigmented - should be called 'shimmer' shadows not 'silky'!, and I didnt find any staying power on my lids with or without primer. This could be used for highlighting if it didnt end up all over your's and your next door neighbours face!

I've had this product for several years and my opinion of it has gone around in a circle. When I first bought it I loved it, and then i thought it was too cool, and now I reach for it all the time again. Will repurchase. (unless I change my mind!)

To anyone who has this eyeshadow - try using it wet!!
I first bought this because the colors are just gorgeous. The shadows have a really nice texture, and are very smooth ... but they go everywhere when you use them dry. The whole compact gets messy with eyeshadow fallout, and yes, you can end up with this on your cheeks after you apply. (Though once it's in place it doesn't move around too much.)



It was a pain, and so I just never bothered to use it, I had other shadows that I always reached for first. It floated toward the back of the drawer and I forgot about it for a while. Then one of the times when I did pull it out, I tried using the eyeshadows with a wet brush. WOW what a difference! The colors are just as beautiful, and the great texture is still lovely, but all of a sudden it's not going everywhere or making a mess. There's no fall-out and it just stays exactly where you put it. Once the shadow is applied it quickly dries down to a gorgeous satin finish. The colors are slightly more intense, but not really any different than if you had layered for more intensity. The best part is that after applying them wet, they just don't budge at all until you remove them. GREAT lasting time, and absolutely *no* creasing.
Now I use this all the time, it's a great go-to eye. Today I even got a spontaneous compliment on my eye makeup and all I was wearing was this duo and light mascara.



I'm giving the eyeshadow a 4 instead of a 5 because I think you do have to apply it in a particular way for it to really work well, and a truly great eyeshadow will work well however you apply it.

This is the first Shiseido product I have ever bought and it is great quality. It's very expensive so I won't purchase it again. However, I do like the subtle soft shimmers which glide on smoothly and wear well for a natural look. They also work as a good base for darker eyeshadows. I use the pink Shiseido one as the base and a shimmery chocolate eyeshadow in the outer corner, blended in for a soft brown look for my greenish eyes.

UPDATE - took a lippy off as over time have realized these shadows do not have staying power. What's the point of a great everyday shadow if it's all creased up by lunchtime?

The great thing about Shiseido is that you do pay for great quality and it is just the right price. The duo shadow of Taffeta Taupe are just so natural and soft. You can wear the duo day and night and shadows are very silky which is great when applying onto the lids. The shadows are great for people with oily lids and dry lids because of the fact of it being so light weight and the sheen just sticks on so well even if you don't wear a primer. I love the natural look that the duo gives. Tie it with a soft brown liner only lining the top and 1-2 coats of mascara on the top as well and a little of shadow lining the bottom of the lashlines and you are good to go!!

Beautiful colors to add to your eyeshadow collections.

I only purchased this eyeshadow because I had to exchange a foundation that I had purchased, but I am so glad that I did! This is one of the best eyeshadows I have ever used. The colour is perfect for what I wanted - subtle enough to wear to work during the day, but bold enough when layered for night - and it lasts from morning to night.




I love the sleek compact that it comes in too... I will definately buy again, I can't wait to try the other colours available.

I love this eyeshadow! i find that it's very long lasting, silky smooth to apply and blend, lasts forever, and it has gorgeous packaging! I also love the brush it comes with as it makes it so easy to blend and apply. I love everything about this eyeshadow! The colour is one of my favs since it's one of those 'no fuss' colours. Love it! Definite repurchase.

More like 3.5 stars for this one. The color is great, it's a pinky brown that is natural, but shimmery and so brightens up the eye well. But it just doesn't last that long, even with eye shadow primer. I love the silky texture, goes on smooth and comes in a cute tortoiseshell compact. It's a real shame because I do love the shadow, I just wished it lasted longer than just a few hours before disappearing. Also, I'm not sure if it because they don't give you that much, or if it's because you have to apply over and over, but it doesn't last that long. I think I ran out in just about a month or two which is not something you want for spending $25+ on eyeshadow.

This is my eyeshadow staple for the fall & winter months. Modestly shimmering taupes. Love what it does for my eyes. The staying power is amazing...I can go to work all day, and go to the gym for 2 hours and the stuff still looks perfect! My only gripe is that the shadow is very powdery, so the compact gets very powdery. Small painpoint, given the great product!

Very expensive for two eyeshadows & horrible, horrible quality unless you're looking for glitter all over your eyes & barely any pigment! Was sorely disappointed. On the tester unit it looked so glowy & light, like it would brighten up my eye area, was I wrong. I should have known when I read the packaging, it's for a sheer translucent wash of color. Still, I wasn't expecting so much glitter. What is with department store brands? The only eyeshadows I have found to be well pigmented & easy to work with are Lancome shadows. I should never stray again.

I had never tried anything Shiseido until my good friend Echo7 told me she got Silky Eyeshadow Duo in Taffeta Taupe. Props to Echo7! This duo is amazing and very sexy, the colours go on well and are pretty universal. They go on soft and are easily blendable.

This is a messy shadow, even with regular cleaning of the compact and tray. However, the silky texture, shimmer, and neutral tones make this one of my favories. The duo works well on its own, but also blends well with almost anything else to vary the look. The darker color works well as a powder liner when I want something subtle, and the shimmery shade works well undereye, accross the brow bones, and even swept over the cheeks. This has been a staple in my bag for about four years and I'm still not sick of it.

This is my go to e/s when I want a very neutral look. I was surprised that these colours looked good on me seeing as though I am a CCC with highly pigmented eyelids. I love the shimmer as it adds a nice sparkle to a very natural eye. The one thing I do not like about this e/s is that the shimmer gets all over my face and compact after application (more so than other shimmery e/s like stila). This may due to the fact that this e/s is lightly compressed into the compact. I would repurchase.

I love the colors, which compliment my greenish-blue eyes perfectly. However, I am a bit disappointed by the quality of these E/S, as they seem to end up everywhere, except for on my eyelids. Staying power got a bit better when I applied them on top of the Artdeco E/S base, but I wouldn't repurchase. Also, the amount you get for the money is small.

I love this duo. I decided to experiment with other brands (eg MAC, Flirt, lancome, body shop, clinque, benefit, revlon) but I keep coming back to this one. I can use it in the daytime at work as well as at night. It has a nice shimmer, doesn't crease, and lasts throughout the day when I first dab powder or foundation on the eyelids. It's expensive (around $28-30), but am willing to re-purchase b/c I just love how it compliments my skin tone and it's long-lasting!

Really like this! I usually wear it with a brun fonce (another shadow) as a liner, and I have received numerous compliments. My only complaint with this (and all Shiseido) is that the compact tends to come apart, break, etc. if I try to carry it around. But will certainly continue to buy!

I bought this after I felt how fabulously soft these shadows were. This duo looked great on the back of my hand and in the packaging but when I put it on it looked like I hadn't at all. I have fairly light skin so I expected to see more, dissapointing. Maybe I can exchange it for a different color. Love the packaging.
