Contrast is so gorgeous. A deep, dark blue-violet (mostly blue) that is absolutely stunning as a liner and a not-black smokey eye. I wore it smudged out with Scene blending it into Electra and it was a knockout.
However, by the end of a long work day, I glanced in the mirror to see besides what had set my eyeliner, Contrast had almost completely faded away! This was with Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which usually does a fine job of holding onto my shadows like a vegetarian does her wheat grass. I've never had this happen with any other MAC shadows. I was disappointed to see it but probably won't return it... Contrast is just way too beautiful to take back. Hopefully I can find something that will grab onto it better for next time.

I am 65, NW20 with dark brown hair and green eyes. I use this as my go-to thin or smudged navy e/l and sometimes for evening on my outer V. This is softer than black, more interesting than gray, and livens up the whites of my eyes. Little-no fallout or smudging.

just does not look good on my tan skin ..i loved the swatch of this shadow when i saw on the internet it's not a typical dark navy eyeshadow but much more unique ..run to mac store to buy...i'm nc 40 - once applied on my lids the blue aspect of this e/s seems to fade and it just kind of looks black as other reviewer stated here ..i have black eyeshadow already that helps me achieve a really nice smokey look ...so this shadow was completely useless for me... had high hopes for this shade really

I finally met with a MAC makeup artist who is fantastic at her job and love the work she has done for a family member. I had her create a few looks for me ...... I am very cool-toned ..... my skintone is NW10 and my haircolor is also a cool-toned blonde, however, I have brown eyes which clash with my coloring ....... I love blues but have a hard time finding the right choices ....... she applied MAC's Linger Softly (a gray/blue on my lid and then Contrast which is a dark navy with hints of purple-blue on my crease and then used Contrast to line the outer corners of my eyes and it not only worked with my cool coloring but also made my brown eyes pop. Contrast is a wonderful choice for PPPs.

Contrast is a beautiful purplish-blue with blue pearl... but unfortunately it is a velvet which makes the texture not so great.I find that you really have to pack it on the lid and build the color so that it doesn't appear patchy. I don't think it blends particularly well either... I still gave it four lippies because the color is gorgeous. My favorite way to wear it is: Contrast on the lid, Kid in the crease and transition, Vanilla pigment to highlight and Brun in the outer V. I'm actually wearing this look today and loved it so much that I decided to write a review. Check out my blog for pics:

Im an NC50 and this product is great on its own for a smoky eye, just apply the eyeshadow to the lid, then smoke it out with a blending brush, ad some black kohl pencil to the top and bottom lash line a bit of mascara or falsies and your ready to go. I would say use a primer just to get the coulour to pop a bit more, and you really need to pack it on but im very happy.

AWESOME dark blue eyeshadow! This is a beautiful dark crease color that I love to use with a silvery light-blue Urban Decay shade called Strip. They look so nice together, with a winged black e/l, Contrast in the crease, Strip as the all over lid color blended out with a shimmer like UD Sellout and then highlighted with a matte (like MAC Blanc Type). Love and will be buying a backup!

This is my favourite dark eyeshadow - it's perfect for smokey looks or as an eyeliner. Either way, it really looks great with my brown eyes.

If I had to get rid of all but one MAC shadow (let's pray that day never, ever comes), I would pick Contrast above the rest. I cannot adequately express my love for this shadow. As crazy as it sounds, since it is a blue, this is one of the easiest shadows to wear. Thickly line the upper lid with some blue or black liner, pack this on top, smoke it out with a blending brush, and then re-line with black fluidline and you have an instant, perfect smokey eye in a matter of minutes. One of my favorite looks ever for my light brown eyes. Would I recommend this shadow? Yes, yes, yes, yes.

the best Mac eye shadow as far as I think:)
great for my green-yellow eyes (skintone NC20-25), doesnt crease, blends easily, smokeys are sooooo pretty when you go for contrast. when I was buying it, I asked SA what would suit my eyes better for the smokeys, as I was choosing bw contrast and some other color ( the second option was sketch I think) and he said contrast for sure, I was surprized as I never thought that blues would go well with green eyes, so I got them both, but it turned out that I use mostly contrast:)and its not really blue-blue, its a deep blacky-blue-self-sufficient colour:)

I bought it a while ago, used it quite a bit and still have a lot in the pot, as is is very pigmented and a little goes a long way.

I tested it in the most severe conditions- at my wedding (ha ha ha) and it was in a hot(+35C) and humid country! I was going crazy with the wedding and forgot all the primers, paint pots and so on... so my make up artist (that I was lucky to find several days before the wedding) had some primers, but all in the jars and as a germaphobic gal (my skin is ultra sensitive) i decided to use only my personal make up. so chanel eye shadows (neutrals) all over the lid, and a subtle smokeys- liner+contrast to emphasize the eyes, it lasted all day! no creasing! and boy it was hot! the ceremony was early in the morning and when I was taking off make-up at night it was looking pretty fresh, I was amazed!

this fall I tried to use contrast over imaginary pait pot-yes in this case it gives you a little shimmer(otherwise its almost matt, velvety-metallicy matt), so using it over imaginary paint pot brings out blue more and gives you more shimmery look. oh, and I tried contrast with a red lip-looks more fresh and interesting then black:)

beautiful colour, texture, will definitely repurchase, and as its a holiday season...will get it for my bestfriend hope she would like it just as much as I do (she has nw30 skin and green-brown eyes)

I just bought this and it looks amazing! i wore a similar color of base from sephora on the bottom to make it stick and pop and it looks so pretty. i did contrast on the lid and copperplate on the crease with a 224 brush and it's sooooooooooooo pretty.. beautiful smokey eye without having to use the black. i paired it with mlle lipstick from MAC. I would definitely repurchase when i ran out!

I love this shadow i am a MAC NC40/42 and i use this as a smokey eye and sometimes all over my lids. Best way to apply this to get the actual navy blue colour on ur lid that you see in the pot is to, use MAC Black Shark Eyes or a Black eyeliner pencil and smudge it all over your lid or where ever you want ti apply Contrast. Then tapp the eyeshadow on to the the desired area and then blend in circles you will get the clout that you see in the pot amazing.

NC42 MAC/ Honey in Bobbi Brown Indian Asian skin.

A must have for indian skin tones. Looks smashing, smokey, deep, mysterious etc! Apply heavily for smokey look, apply lightly near eye line for smudgy effect. Good pop of colour.

I love this eyeshadow as it's unique and beautiful, but I really don't wear it too often. When I do reach for it I like to wear it on the lid with copperplate in the crease and typographic on the outer V for an easy smokey eye. On my fair complexion it shows up more of a muted purple with blueish shimmer. I personally don't find it overly pigmented compared to other shadows from MAC's velvet line, but still a really nice and unique shade.

This is one of my most favorite shadows ever. Nope, this shadow never looked ashy on me and I'm an NC45. I use this over the Painterly paint pot and the color POPS even better than before for a beautiful jewel-toned smoky eye with all the drama of the Black Swan film or something like that! I'll love it forever.

And for the people who are scared of blue eye shadow in general? Try Contrast my dears and I'm sure you won't run away from it!

Contrast was kinda pushed on me in the pan it looks pewter and purple and I knew it would not look right but took the MA advice hardley use because it just looks ashey against my skin it's too light. However the texture is good and smooth nothing wrong in that aspect.

This eyeshadow is as beautiful in the pot as it is on your lids! It's absolutely perfect for a smokey eye. I use it in my crease with electra on the lid and it looks SO gorgeous. It's also wearable during the day too, which I like. It blends so easily and I've had no problems with it creasing, but I do use a primer. If you are a fan of the smokey eye look, this is a must have.
