Regarding AnnR’s excellent review below, I agree 100%! I was also fortunate enough to obtain some of the original Alexis Vogel Cosmetics back in 2004 and the quality was indeed excellent (except for the brushes, as AnnR also mentioned, but you can always get better brushes elsewhere). In March 2005 Alexis Vogel was no longer associated with the people who were running AVC because she did not like the direction the company was heading (one reason was that they apparently wanted to use cheaper ingredients). After Ms. Vogel left the company, the quality of the makeup was not as good as it was previously. There are numerous posts here of what happened to the company after the name was changed to Makeup Connection. In early 2006, Ms. Vogel created a new line called AlexisStyle. Again, the quality of the makeup was excellent, but the line was unfortunately discontinued less than a year later. The reason being was that apparently Ms. Vogel was experiencing similar problems like the ones she experienced when she was with AVC. Like the original AVC products, you may find some of the AlexisStyle products on Ebay. However, you can find similar AlexisStyle lip products on ilovemylips.com as well as on the valeriebeauty.com site. Hopefully Ms. Vogel will come out with another great line soon (perhaps the third time will be the charm)!

This is my first review ever!! I've been on MUA many years. I'm still amazed at how many negatives there are for Alexis Vogel makeup, as I am 52, and have tried LOTS of things, but the original Light Kit, not the reformulated products that have come about since the Alexis Vogel cosmetics were discontinued, well, some of the products are the BEST I've used and can be used to look VERY classy instead of TOO made-up!! . Some people think you have to apply Vogel makeup as if you wanted to look like Pamela Anderson, but these are HIGH quality cosmetics, and you can use them just like you would any other makeup for whatever look you want! I LOVE the Lipstain (it's moisturizing and lasts and lasts and doesn't migrate and is HIGHLY pigmented!) and the gloss in the original light kit, I've tried LOTS of high-end brands, and the texture and pigment is wonderful and it lasts well! The blush is GORGEOUS and so smooth/easy to apply and brightens my complexion. One of the best blushes I've tried. The brushes are NOT good, though. Everything else except the concealer I loved!! The lipgloss has been my favorite gloss as far as how it looks on me, the texture, the pigment, the long lasting power, and the beauty of it, it looks glamorous and pretty, not in a cheap way. The eyeshadows and sparkle dust are GORGEOUS, silky, smooth, pigmented, professional quality! I get kind of tired of the bad things people say about her makeup. Many of the products are such top quality, and celebrities still use her cosmetics and look wonderful, not cheap, but classy and glamorous and pretty. Wasn't she the makeup artist for American Idol? Everyone on there looked very pretty.
However, I am so disappointed at what happened with her company, it was not her fault from what I have heard, and I have "heard" that the "re-formulated" products that www.makeupconnection.com is selling are far inferior, but I don't know that for sure. I have also heard and read on MUA here that another company called www.valeriebeauty.com, I think, sells glosses and lipsticks exactly like Vogel's, so i will check out these products soon : )
I especially don't really like when some people say they hate her cosmetics line and they admit they never even tried anything from her line. I can tell you her "original" formulations of eyeshadows, blushes, lip products, are better than anything I've tried, and I've tried TONS of stuff, and yes, even Mac. Too bad you can't buy her original formulations anymore except maybe Ebay.

I have never even tried this product and I already HATE the brand!!..LOL...I've read on here and on badbusinessbureau.com that they THEY ARE A SCAM! They take people's money and much more negative stuff!! I've never considered trying it because it always looked like a bunch of cheap junk on TV to me. The products still look like junk. They are NOW CALLED 'AVC CARE' ON MAKEUPCONNECTION.COM! I hope they go down because I AM PRETTY SURE THEY STILL ARE A SCAM!! DON'T SUPPORT OR BUY THEIR PRODUCTS! I HOPE THEY GO DOWN!

Paul Monea Owner of Alexis Vogel Cosmetics, and Makeup connection Knowingly charged customers for makeup kits, and goods that were not in stock, and did not ship the products for months if ever.

He discontinued Alexis Vogel Web site, and started Makeup Connection pretending that Alexis Vogel was purchased by another makeup company. It in fact was not he was the owner of the old company, and is pretending he was not.

He also has not been shipping the same cosmetics that customers think that they are purchasing. He has changed formulas, and is passing the cosmetics off as the same formula.

The owner can has laid off all of his employees except for his mother, Gayle Monea, and his girlfriend Gina.

His business is in jeprody due to the high volume of chargebacks he has received, and the fact that the credit card companies are now penalizing him for these chargebacks.

The last three employees that were let go were being paid under the table, since he could not afford to pay the pay roll company ADP to produce real legal paychecks.

Also the last three employees have yet to be paid for their final work week, and for the shortage on their paychecks.

Be ware if he can not pay his employees how can he provide the products he is supposedly shipping?

I purchased this back in March. I've been into makeup ever since I can remember. The DVD will probably be useful for those who want to get the trademark Alexis-glam look. Although I've been wearing makeup for 18 years, I found the DVD helpful for making up my eyes. The bag is a great idea, but I already have something to store my makeup in, so it isn't that useful for me. The foundation did not match my face at all, and something about the smell put me off. The lip color also was not for me---it was an unwearable pink. The brushes are OK---fortunately I have a set of good brushes so these were not essential for me to wear. The chubby pencil, while a pretty color, turned hard and dry after a while, to the point that I couldn't apply it. In addition, the cap of the chubby pencil began to crack and it fell apart. I was disappointed b/c I actually liked the pencil, and now I cant use it. The cake liner is good and I like this almost as much as my BB gel liner. For those are interested in getting the Alexis Vogel look, I would suggest getting the DVD and using your own makeup in conjunction with it. It isnt necessary to purchase this entire kit to get the look. While I would not repurchase from the old Alexis Vogel line, I am interested in trying some products from the new Alexis Style line.

I agree with what others said on here... the products are very hit and miss... I ordered from the new website that is now selling the original kit and it arrived in like 3 days, and they seem to have good customer service now. I had read on their message board that it seems as though they've changed some of the formulations and added fragrances, but it still seemed good quality to me. I did not like the brushes at all though. the buffer brush seemed like it should have been thicker and shorter. the blush brush was okay, and the total eye brush was horrible. the slanted brush (for eyeliner) was way too thick to be detailed enough; it just made a big sloppy mess... even when I blended it better with a q-tip it was WAY too thick of a line... I guess I expected much better quality for the brushes.

I had some better luck with the makeup. The foundation gives you great coverage with a very small amount, and the concealer is some of the best I have ever tried. It covered my undereye circles like nothing else has. The powder was also great. The blush and lipstain looked a lot brighter than they actually are on, but a little goes a LONG way (with all of the makeup actually)... I don't feel I can give a good review of the cakeliner because the brush sucked so much, but I think if I had a good brush it would go on a lot better! the eye crayon and eye shadow were both nice, but you have to put the shadow on over the crayon or it won't stay on very long.

I think the instructional video is more geared toward people who have never used makeup before, but it is a good idea to watch it at least once through to get the most out of her makeup.

Overall, I would buy certain things again, but not all of it.

Ok, let me just say that I have tried everything in the old AV line and like many others here I had hits and misses. Foundation is awesome, powder is great, the eye popper is ok, the chubby pencils are ok, the cake eyeliner is great, the lip stains are weird and all the same awful fuschia (like those 99 cent color change lipsticks from the 80's), the blush is bad.

The customer service is non-existant, you may or may not ever get your order. I used to be a regular on their wedsite's board but too many psychos and angry customers made them shut it down.

Alexis' new line is supposedly awesome but seriously $$$. It's all private label stuff with her name slapped on it. I have used the same products under a different company name for much less money and they are all great so far.

I think Alexis is a super talented lady who hooked up with a shady company that pretty much messed up her image with their lack of ethics.

Her trademark look is super sexy to the hilt, but she did get her training on porn sets. (Her dad was the director of photography!)

DON'T BUY FROM ALEXIS VOGEL! I purchased her whole system about a year ago, because I was fed up with my make-up and I wanted a change. At first I thought that the products were only okay, so I basically settled with them, and began to use them on a daily basis. I'd also mix some other products which weren't hers with her products; I came to the realization that HER products only work well with HER products.
Also, the system was way to expensive for what they actually give you. Yeah, the products are decent, but the DVD isn't too helpful. There aren't really any "tricks" that you don't know or haven't heard of already. I only suggest this system if you're a begginner with make-up. And the size of the containers of make-up they give you? They're tiny. I guess they purposely do that so that you'll just keep on ordering.
So I continued using this system even though I wasn't so satisfied with it, but what really pissed me off was the shipping. They never, ever shipped what I ordered in time. For my final and last purchase, they were a month late and still hadn't shipped it out. I had called several times and I even got my mother to call for me, who demanded money back. After twenty minutes of arguing with the operator, she gave in and said that she'll give us our money back. Turns out, they didn't give me my money back. They actually sent half of my purchase on, and never sent out the rest. I give up. This system is garbage and so is Alexis Vogel! RIP OFF AND A SCAM! DON'T BUY!

Well, I broke down and ordered the system about a month ago and never recieved it...am I still allowed to review it? I'm going to, since they charged my card and sent me a confirmation number. The confirmation number is about all I got, though, and it was not worth the price. I can't get in touch with anyone. I'm automatically forwarded to a voice mail box which is full and won't let me leave a message. No one will respond to my emails. So, screw the Alexis Vogel system it's not worth gambling $120 or however much it cost because you may or may not recieve it. You definitely won't be able to contact customer service if there is any sort of problem. I hope my bank will be able to refund the money somehow.

Ugh! This system is so expensive and the products are so awful! I bought the Alexis Vogel System because I am a sucker for late-night infomercials. I don't know how many times I have to be disappointed by infomercial products before I stop buying them. This one was a very expensive lesson. The products were garish and reminded me of cheesy, low-quality 1920's make-up .... like the bright, un-natural colors my grandma used to wear when I was little - hot pink lipstick, clown pink cheeks, eyeshadow with huge, obvious sparkles (not fine-milled "lumenescent glow" kind of sparkles .... just large hunks of sparkle pieces! Ugh!). The foundation is too dry, and who on earth lines the INSIDE of their eyelids anymore??? That went out in 1979 and should never even have been "in" in the first place... it makes your eyes look smaller. About the only thing that I even have a use for from this system is the plastic travel bag it all came in! And that probably costs all of $1.00 .... nice that I paid $200.00 for a $1.00 plastic bag! Don't waste your money.

I may be in the minority here...but...for a professional and finished look, this kit was great. Well, wait - I couldnt use the lipstick I got, it was a very candy pink - but everything else was great. I love makeup and have been wearing it ever since I could open my sisters bureau drawer where she stashed the Aziza and Bonne Bell. This is a good 32 years of makeup obsession, I have worked at makeup counters, and can do a better makeover than most professionals. This stuff is good. The foundation is among the best and really, really simple to apply (nothing beats Isserlyn but that is time intensive)lasts and does not contain cheap crappy cyclomethicone so it doesnt break me out. Great coverage and glowy finish. The powder is very fine and goes on silky smooth. The blush was shocking pink in the jar and made me laugh but brushed on properly, brought my rather pale, olive skin to life. The eyeliner is the deepest chocolatey black imaginable and goes on super smooth and lasts. The eyeshadows were nice enough - not the best colors for my eyes but the pencil slid on silk then lasted all day long. The highlighter powder is a beautiful peachy gold and lit up my grayish eyes. Lipliner was a great natural tone. Mascara was ok, I like a much lusher look, but was good for a more natural lash. I enjoyed the DVD and finally figured out how to do the whole cat eye thing. The lipgloss is gorgeous. When I used the whole thing, people noticed and in the way you want them to - not your makeup looks great but - you look great today - you look rested - or you look like you're in a good mood - that sort of compliment. The brushes are also a pleasure - the powder brush is firm and soft, the eyeliner brush perfectly angled so I get a perfect line every time. It seems like alot of thought went into this product and I like the results. No problems with delivery, either. Now the website is sort of the fifth circle of hell, not to be a snob but it is the twenty year old K-Mart in a bad neighborhood of websites. Tacky and annoying. But the products are great and I recommend them.

like most infomercials, this one was very convincing-so being a makeup addict i ordered the whole kit expecting "high quality/professional" products, but instead i got a crappy-cheap quality kit for 200 bux ! i liked the dvd and her techniques that's why i didn't give it a 1,but for the products alone-it's absolutely terrible ! the eyeshadows aren't all that especially that overrated masquerade one and the painful eye popper-super soft ? no way it's was so hard my eyes were red ,and she made that for the inner rims of the eye-which is way sensitive ! her brushes are stiff and cheap-the ones from the drugstore like loreal are even better ! her lipglosses are OK but not good or great, the lipstain is pretty good, lipliners are bad and too hard, eyebrow pencil too soft that it smears and melts away in an hour or so, blushes look tacky and garish or too dark,oh and all the eyeshadows are crumbly,CUSTOMER SERVICE IS BAD!,foundation was ok but not a wide range of shades and the tools suck as well-u can get better ones at walgreens-and i hate drugstore brands-i only use professional quality tools and makeup-lol yea i'm a makeup snob, but i want the best ! i just want you all to get your moneys worth and dont be fooled,it's been said by many including her own company -that alexis didn't even help mix the formulas as she claimed,no wonder she's not with that company anymore-i haven't tried her new line yet,but i sure hope it's as good as she says it is and is nothing like this one ! good luck =)

I purchased a complete system early last year. While I really like the AV foundation and concealer, as well as the Bliss lipgloss and shimmer powder, I don't think there is anything in this system that is very remarkable. In fact, the eyeshadows are crumbly, the mascara sucks, the packaging is cheap, and the brushes are nothing to write home about; you can get better ones free from Estee Lauder. Unlike some readers, I did learn something from watching the DVD. I apply eye makeup much differently now, with much better results--more impact.

I would not buy the system again, but I would definitely purchase the foundation and concealer again.

I did not think the kit was too overpriced considering all that came with it.

I am a makeup artist, and I use MAC, Urban Decay and Dior makeup. I decided to try the Alexis Vogel system out of curiosity, and because I was intrigued by their promises of excellent quality.

Don't waste your time with this CRAP!!! I ordered a lot of products off of the website and I had a HORRIBLE time with customer service:
1) Never recived my order. I had to call customer service and then call the shipping company to confirm that they never shipped my items and then I called customer service Again to tell them that they never shipped my items!
2) When I did recieve my order they only sent me half of my items. It took THREE additional calls to customer service to get them to send the rest of my items, and they sent me a buch of stuff I never ordered!
3) Customer service was rude and pretended like they didn't know who I was every time I called even though I talked to the same person six times!

Argghh.. now that I've got that off my chest, on to the products...
The video isn't all that helpful. Unless you are a complete makeup novice you will know how to do everything in the video allready. Also, the "look" that she creates here is very 80's- big hair, soft eyes- very cheesy and "prom queen". If you don't know how to do makeup at all I suggest you get this video from Ebay to learn some basic techniques, and then go see a good MAC makeup artist with a picture of a "look" you want to try.

The products are CRAP. The liners don't glide, the colors aren't good, the eyeshadow goes everywhere except your eye lid and it has no staying power. And this is after I apply lid primer! MAC and Urban decay have much better shadows!

The lip stains are wierd, the colors look garish- sort of like the cheap makeup that little girls play with.

The foundation was actually okay, but the poweder was terrible.

The packaging was very cheap looking, badly made plastic, and after only a week some of the lids on the eyeshadow wouldn't screw back on.

HERE'S THE BEST WAY TO KNOW THESE PRODUCTS SUCK:
ALEXIS VOGEL IS A PROFESSIONAL MAKEUP ARTIST, AND WHEN SHE DOES PAMELA ANDERSON'S MAKEUP FOR A PHOTO SHOOT OR MAKEUP FOR PLAYBOY MAGAZINE SHE DOES NOT USE HER OWN PRODUCTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Biggest waste of money EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Her make up products are hit & miss. When I applied everything on as instructed in her DVD, I think I looked pretty weird. Mascara is no good, pressed powder is EXCELLENT, eye shadow is very nice, eyeliner stick has no staying power & goes on nicely, the lipstick does last but leaves a fuschia pink stain on your lips (as well as her blush) and her brushes are just 'ok', nothing earth-shattering that I couldn't get from your average corner drugstore. The eyeliner was heavily pigmented and good quality. The concealer & foundation made me look plastic. Her techniques are good in the DVD but expect to spend some time. I like her organizing system & still use the clear make up bags to organize my cosmetics to this day. Sorry, but would not buy again.

I bought the AV system because I wanted a different look. I liked the instruction tape. The makeup is okay. The eyeliner and cakeliners are a bit dodgey for contact wearers. Careful if you drop any of the products! They crumble easily.
Once you have the Alexis Vogel's techniques down and run out of her products, you might do better with your own favorites, in my opinion. The customer service phoneline is just awful. As one who works in a call center. I can say Ms. Vogel's company needs a major overhaul. Quick sell and trying to add-on to orders are the name of the game. Buyer beware. If you want to purchase cosmetics and learn how to apply them it might behoove you to visit a fine beauty store. At least you will have someone helping you who represents a make-up company that has built a solid reputation with the store and its' customers.

I have the DVD but use it with my other make-up. I was going to buy the kit but found the DVD on ebay.
I have gotten many more compliments since I started using her techniques. When you think of what it would cost for a make-up session with Alexis I think the kit is well worth the money.I just have so many other MMU products I prefer to use.
Many,Many celebs have their make-up done by AV, it is far from just those who are apart of the adult entertainment industry.
She recently did Avril's make-up for the cover of Cosmo, Carmen Electra for several magazine covers, and numerous other high profile celebs.
She is very talented. If she wasn't would she still be working as a make-up artist with all the stylists in Hollywood competing for jobs?
In all I recommend the DVD for techniques. If you can afford it, buy the whole kit. There's enough AV junkies amongest us who will buy what you don't like.

I love this kit, I just purchased my second one. The only problem I have are the brushes, except the total eye brush. I had to purchase separate brushes because the ones that came with the kit didn't work for me. I will honestly never go back to any other type of make-up. . .except maybe mascara, I didn't like the mascara that comes with the kit. Overall I'm very pleased.
