I am trying to find a replacement for the old formulation of Redken All Soft shampoo and conditioner, which Redken changed last year (the new formula of that is terrible).
I have tried many product lines already, from cheap to expensive, but I haven't found anything even halfway as good as the All Soft used to be for my particular kind of hair.
About 20 years ago, for about one year, I used Nexxus Therappe Shampoo and the companion Nexxus Humectress conditioner. It was pretty good for my hair, but not great, and I moved on to other product lines. I have not used this brand since then, so last week I decided to give it a whirl.
Unfortunately, it was not good for my hair. Worse than it I remember it having been 20 years ago.
My chin-length dark blonde hair is "virgin" hair (not color treated, not chemically treated, not even been subjected to a hairdryer or heated styling tools in the last 2 years!)
The Nexxus made my hair:
-darker in color
-brittle and straw-like
-frizzy, rough-feeling
-dull in the light
I then looked up customer reviews of Nexxus Therappe and Humectress on Amazon, and I learned that Nexxus REFORMULATED this product line last year. Apparently the old formula, which was superior, had a grey bottle cap and the new, inferior formula has a black bottle cap.
Unfortunately, so many consumer goods companies are reformulating their products to make them cheaper to produce and cheaper in price. It's a shame, because the quality is taking a nosedive. And so many companies are doing this at the same time, which leaves few good product lines left for disappointed customers to migrate to.
If anyone knows of a good shampoo/conditioner product line that matches the effects of the OLD Redken All Soft line (before it was reformulated at the beginning of 2012), please send me a message via this site.

I really like this shampoo. I never thought I'd use a moisturizing shampoo on my fine, healthy hair. But I've started using dandruff shampoos about four days a week (alternating between Neutrogena T-Sal and Neutrogena Daily Control 2-in-1 Dandruff Shampoo Plus Conditioner), and they can be drying. Dr. Cynthia Bailey recommends shampooing with a non-medicated shampoo before using dandruff shampoo, so I started using Nexxus Therappe, and it works great. It's lightly moisturizing without having a bunch of oils to trigger the seborrheic dermatitis that I battle on my scalp. It lathers well, cleans effectively, rinses easily, and doesn't weigh down my hair. I buy a huge 44-ounce bottle (which lasts forever) at Costco for around $15, which means it doesn't cost much more than many drugstore brands. At first the banana note in the tropical fragrance really annoyed me (I hate bananas), but now I don't even notice it. The shampoo just smells generically fruity, which is fine by me, because now I can keep using this great shampoo.

I fell in love with this shampoo back in the 1980s, when I started going to the salon with my mom on a semi-regular basis. I could never really afford it, or its companion conditioner "Humectress", but I always treated myself to a bottle of each, when I could, since they seemed to make my thick, curly hair more supple (and of course, they both smelled delicious in their own way). ;-)
Today I use Therappe on a regular basis, even though I know it's been reformulated at least 2 or 3 times in the past decade. The famous pina colada scent seems to be the same as I remember it, though I honestly can't say if it's a better or worse shampoo today than it was pre-reformulations.
Looking at the new/old lists of ingredients, it's clear that many of the shampoo's most touted ingredients have been moved way down to the end of the list, when once upon a time they were near the top. It's still a good shampoo, and it's much more affordable than it once was (is that because of the reformulations? I hope not) so I will continue to use it. I will NOT, however, EVER purchase Humectress conditioner again, due to the fact that the formula was completely changed and the once yummy apricot scent changed to something totally boring.
So, can I recommend Therappe today? Maybe. It's not exactly the same Therappe I grew up with. But, excepting 5 or 6 ingredients, the ingredient list for the older and newest formulas are essentially the same; the ingredients are just in a different order! As with anything, your miles may vary, so try it. At least they didn't add anything bad to the new formula like Sodium LAURYL Sulfate, so that's something to be thankful for!
NEWEST FORMULA? (2012?):
Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Sodium Laureth 6 Carboxylate, Glycol Distearate, Polyquaternium 10, Cocamide MEA, PEG 6 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Fragrance (Parfum), Disodium EDTA, Coumarin, Panthenol, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Sodium Chloride, Hydrolyzed Keratin, Methylisothiazolinone, Magnesium Citrate, Honey (Mel), Allantoin (Comfrey Root), Propylene Glycol, Polyglyceryl 3 Diisostearate, Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract (Nettle), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract (Rosemary), Quilaja Saponaria Bark Extract, Polysorbate 60, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract (Matricaria), Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Myristic Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Flour Lipids (Wheat), Persea Gratissima Oil (Avocado), Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Glycene Soja (Soybean) Sterols (Soybean), Alpha Glucan Oligosaccharide, Ceramide 3, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
OLDER FORMULA (PRE-2009):
Water (Aqua), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamide DEA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Matricaria (Chamomilla Recutita) Extract, Nettle (Urtica Dioica) Extract, Rosemary (Rosemarinus Officinalis) Extract, Quillaja Saponaria Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate, Keratin Amino Acids, Panthenol, Avocado (Persea Gratissima) Oil, Allantoin, Soybean (Glycine Soja) Sterol, Honey (Mel), Ceramide 3, Wheat Flour (Triticum Vulgare) Lipids, Polyquaternium-10, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Styrene/Methacrylic Acid/Itaconic Acid Polymer, Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Magnesium Citrate, Sodium Chloride, Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Polysorbate 60, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Citric Acid, Propylene Glycol, Propylparaben, Methylparaben, Fragrance (Parfum).

I recently moved to a city with extremely hard water. Sulfate-free shampoos do NOT seem to work in hard water, and my hair got progressively greasier and drier at the same time. Had to switch to a shampoo with sulfates and this does the trick. I still pre-condition with coconut oil, and use an ACV rinse after my shampoo, but this way, I can actually rinse the shampoo out of my hair - even if it takes an eternity.
This hasn't transformed my hair but so far so good. It's sufficiently moisturizing and doesn't irritate my scalp. My hair is left shiny and bouncy.

I am always getting compliments on my hair and people always ask me what shampoo i use. This is my favourite shampoo it is absolutely amazing. The price is super cheap because the quality of the shampoo is stunning. It literally leaves my hair shinier, thicker, and believe it or not it help my hair grow faster and i have hair past my hips. Definetely a product to splurge on.

No complaints here. Although previously I was using Joico K-pak which made my hair extremely dry and brittle. Switching to this I can really tell the differance in how moisturizing this is. Would buy it again!

I noticed there might be a production issue - the travel size I own is significantly different in texture, appearance and smell than the full size bottle. The travel size is creamier, has a stronger banana smell, and seems more moisturizing than the full size. Not real sure what is up with that. I bought the full size based on my experience with the travel size. For the full size bottle - I find that this is a great clarifying shampoo. Doesn't make my scalp itchy and it gets rid of the "oil production dandruff". It also makes my hair smell like banana Now and Later candies (which I kinda dig). I can't use it every day because, like other reviewers experienced, it makes my hair dry if I use it more than once a week.

I LOVED the old formula and would have gave it 5 lippies. It was so moisturizing! But, if you haven't noticed yet, they have changed the formula! Now its barely moisturizing at all! It doesn't work any better than most cheap shampoos! You're better off to leave this product sit on the shelf, and buy the Suave version of it! Its way cheaper and actually works better! I don't know why they always have to mess with things when they were perfect the way they were!

I started using this shampoo about 2 months ago and I'm very impressed with it. It is probably the first shampoo I've ever used that moisturizes my hair and leaves a great shine but there is never any greasy buildup. Most moisturizing shampoos generally end up making your hair oily but not this one. It's great for colored hair too. Cleans well and leaves your hair soft and manageable. As I said, I'm also impressed with the shine. I follow with Nexxus conditioner but not very much of it. This combo is perfect for me. I should also add that my hair is really long and quite damaged at the ends. Will repurchase.
Edit: I'm editing my review because I have found that this shampoo does buildup and make my hair oily. I still like it but use it less often, alternating with a dryer shampoo.

I absolutely LOVE this! It works amazingly! If your hair cant offord to be dried out by a shampoo, this is your product. The smell of this shampoo brings a smile to my face. The first time I used this is reminded me of my grandmothers banana bread which I could eat all day! It really cleans your hair and puts it into good condition. Mostly women use this, but if there is a man looking to keep his hair in good condition or put it there buy this. I would recommend this to anybody. It possibly is the best shampoo I have ever used in my entire life. And it is now 2012, even if they changed the formula it is great.

This shampoo cleans well without drying or stripping my color. It has a delicious coconut smell and rich lather. I have thick, curly, color treated hair and it's perfect for me. I get a big (44oz) bottle at Costco (with a pump) for $14 (using their coupon).
Regarding the previous review, I believe she is reviewing the Humectress conditioner and not the Therappe shampoo.

ATTENTION: all good reviews were posted before 2010.. that means, those reviews correspond to the old nexxus formula!!!
Ive had used this conditioner for more than 6 years, but in 2009-2010 Nexxus changed the fomula, and now is just an average conditioner.. Is not as great as it used to be, so disappointed that the formula is completely different and cheaply reformulated. This new formula conditioner does nothing beyond any cheap drugstore conditioner. is basically crap!
i heard there is a very similar to the old formula, also from nexxus "phyto organics humectin".. i will try it and update later..
ok. noooooooooooo! it is just another average conditioner! dont even spend your money in humecting trying to find a substitute to your old favorite humectress.
I even wrote to them, complaining for substituting such a great, extremely effective product to a crappy one! what a shame!
I was in a mission to find a replacement for my HG humectress conditioner, and the best so far is "Tigi-catwalk honey and oatmeal conditioner" is really moisturizing and gives me a similar (not exactly) effect than my discontinued old formula humectress. Shiny, smooth, strong hair, with a touch of volume. Make it look really healthy when is not!
Try it if you are unhappy with new humectress!

I heard so many people spoke about this product so I bought it. The first couple of days it was fine just like any other shampoo. A week later my hair gets really flat because of the build up. I like the way this shampoo smells though but I won't buy it again. I have oily scalp and oily hair at the roots so this shampoo makes it more oily.

I bought this for $15 at Wal-Mart. My hair is long, curly, and naturally dry, and I'm trying to grow it out even longer. I hate shampoos, and I always wrote them off as the same--I could never find anything that would moisturize my hair and clean it as well. I figured I would give this one a try, and it is amazing. The shampoo itself is very creamy, and it lathers well (it contains sodium laureth sulfate). I highly recommend this if you have dry hair that seeks intense moisture.

My hair was drying out with a volumizing shampoo I was using and my scalp was getting oily, so I decided to switch to a moisturizing shampoo. I tried this and I loved it. My ends are no longer dry and I rarely see split ends. The only thing I have noticed because I've used it for two months now is that it causes some build-up on the scalp. SO I may be switching to another shampoo but this did help my hair become shinier fuller and reduced the amount of split ends (I have fine hair)

I liked this better than the humectress conditioner I bought to go along with it. This shampoo cleans without overdrying my hair and it smells amazing, reminds me of banana popsicles and a mild coconut scent, really nice. It lathers up easily and seems to get the job done. I am in general not impressed with most shampoos, they either clean my hair and leave it dry, clean it and leave it ok (but not tolerable with a conditioner) or they don't leave it clean. This one is number 2, it's left clean and ok. Would consider repurchasing but I am not impressed by anything but the scent.

I purchased this product 1 week ago, cause my hair seemed to always be oily and dry. I have to say i was very pleased with this prodcut, moisturised and cleansed my hair and left it looking great. Its best to purchase online, as in the shop they sell for around $30.00. I purchased from this site ozhair and beauty, and got it for 19.99. I purchased this along with the Hydra Sleek conditioner when it was on sale for 9.99 CAD each. Normally they are quite pricey for a Drugstore shampoo/conditioner (especially the conditioners).
I had a great experience with a Nexxus shampoo that I used at a friend's maybe two years ago. It left my hair feeling silky smooth and shiny like never before. So when I finally purchased it, I had high expectations.
I was a bit let down, it wasn't epic-ly silky. It does give my hair a soft feeling, but I notice a lot of frizz throughout the day.
I wouldn't purchase this again, and I'm still on a quest for the perfect shampoo that leaves my hair soft and silky!

I purchased this product along with the Humectress Conditioner and Emergencee, because my hair was in need of some serious help. I will review each product separately but out of the three, I liked the shampoo okay. I'm not a terribly big fan of shampoos, which I suspect was the culprit to destroying my hair previously. This one lathered a lot and smelled just like Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen. I was taken a bit back by that. The condition of my hair after shampooing was a little stripped and moderately tangled, but not "squeaky" clean (that level of clean the most unhealthy thing ever). I might purchase this again in a pinch, but I'm off in search of greener pastures.
