The Rouge 4 line of lipsticks are just as great as the Lolishines. The Rouge 4 are drier in texture, more like a satin creme formula on the lips. Very pigmented, I usually can only blot on the color on my lips. The nudes I can wear straight from the tube :)

The texture is a cross between a creme and a matte. The lips don't look dry but they aren't shiny either. They look nicely stained when blotted on, and well covered without settling into lines when applied straight from the tube. Little to no scent thankfully. The staying power is ok, will have to be reapplied after eating/drinking. They are not long wearing lipsticks and they don't dry me out, so I don't mind reapplying. Sadly I think the Rouge 4 are being phased out (eventually will be replaced by the Rouge Unlimited according to the Shu MAs) but there are still plenty left at the counters. It will be some time before they completely phase out. I definitely recommend this line lipsticks! I have 145, 938E, and 265 in my stash so far :)

I have this in rouge #544, an orangey shade that can be promising if applied carefully. I do not appreciate the texture of Shu lipsticks though, because it dries the lips and needs lip balm to back it up. There are better lipsticks in the market that better suit your purse and taste. Shu's just not it.

I love the texture of this lipstick. It is creamy and opaque, but goes on smoothly like a sheer or a gloss. It is both shiny and completely non-sticky.

I have it in 148, which is a neutral rosy-red color, with no sparkle.

I am eviewing Rouge 4 in 723, a caramel shade in the orange family. I love this color. It is not nude at all, but the perfect peach for MMM-GGG. It is a refreshing and delectable color from all of my pinks, corals, and nudes. It's great. The texture is amazing. This definitely is pigmented, but I don't get the matte feel of the lipstick like I do from Nars or BB. I wanted to try the Lolishines, but my lips are so pigmented that no matter what color I pick, they will all tend to look the same on me. The Rouge 4 gave me the color and still felt like a soft lip balm. It literally just slides onto my lips, like second skin. Great Buy!!! Will try more colors.

I m reviewing the 956 which is a 'earthy nude' as described by shu website, i have pigmented lips and 956 just makes them look smooth, luscious and naturally better looking. I am unsure if it's moisturizing enough for some as i always use a lip balm underneath first but it isnt horribly drying. However it looks moisturizing and creamy. i am debating a back-up as it does have a wierd taste sometimes and wears off after a meal/ a lot of talking. the 357 which is described as ' Shimmery Strawberry Pink' somehow isnt as creamy as the 956 and is sheerer than i would like. It's quite a task to get it to show on my lips - nude l/l, blotting etc needed but after all the work i love this with smoky eyes. i have fair olive skin BB warmsand 2.5, NC 20++.

I had this lipstick in colour 956. The website describes it as "Earthy nude" but the colour reminds me of sweet adzuki bean paste. Love the way it shows on my lips and the lustrous shine.

I have the Rouge 4 lipstick in color 956 which is a warmer pink in the orange family. I bought this because I have so much trouble finding suitable lip colors for myself and thought this could replace my discontinued Chanel Glossimer in Hacienda. Although the color is fantastic, it's a pretty mediocre lipstick. Not very moisturizing at all (I have to put a heavy waxy balm underneath it), doesn't last very long (eat and drink at all and it's gone) and you can taste it after you apply it. Blegh. I'll finish using this tub just because it's a pretty shade but I'm not buying it again.

I bought this in 524 after admiring the shade in Allure. In the tube, it is a bright Crayola orange. Applied, it is a warm sheer glaze of .... well, orange, but not an obnoxious orange. It's more of a bright coral-apricot. I can only wear this in the summer but I think darker-toned women could get away with it year round. (I'm NC35.) Great smooth texture.

I was so exciting when I saw this color 357 in the Glamour magazine (June). It was so beautiful on the model and exactly the shade that I have been looking for a long time. It look pink but "not bright". I went straight away to Neal Str the next day and was so happy when I saw the color through the clear tube. I bought it without testing. Hugh disappointed! The color is very bright!!! I followed the instruction in the magazine but it can never look like that!! Besides, it disappeard after 10 mins even I did not drink or eat anything. Very upset with the quality, color and price (£12.50). I will never come back Shu Uemura and be very carefull with any suggestion in the magazines. UPDATE: I've known how to fix it: first, apply the lipstick, blot it with tissue then apply the Bourjois 97 Chair Authentic. It looks quite good (still not stay long)

These are close to becoming my favorite lipsticks of all time. (move over, beloved Nars?) Just the right balance between dry and creamy, they are saturated with pigment and stay put w/o bleeding. Color 165 is a stunning frosty red that just barely edges toward rich pink; so perfect with silver grey eye shadow. Red 134 is *the* absolute perfect tomato red. In other words, my this-is-it--stop-looking-for-it red. Packaging is simple, practical and absolutely brilliant.

My makeup bag always has a Shu Uemura lipstick in it. Always. My not-so-secret weapon is the often overlooked S506 (orange), which works for both bride and mother of the bride as a dressier neutral. ;-) The Rouge 4 Line made me drool all the way to the counter. They are creamier and smoother than my standbys, and while there are color similarities between the classic and the new ranges, I find Rouge 4's colors more playful, and the texture more comfortable for regular wear. They taste different, too - almost like watercress or citrus-celery! So far, I have a shimmery sheer plum-brown (797) and a cool micro-glittered red (165).

At last non drying Shu lipstick! I have a tough time looking for a shade to love. I favor: 795E a black red with copper shimmer for that mysterious goth look and 947- a nude mauve-pink for that dewy natural look.

If you're tired of reading my raves for Shu Uemura products, then skip this, because this is certainly a rave for the new Rouge 4 Lipstick range from the brand.

I was perfectly happy with Shu's Lip Rouges of the past, but of course, new innovations and more ways to attract buyers and get them to spend money must always be on the marekting tables at any cosmetic company. Enter the new range of lipsticks called Rouge 4. I'm not sure what Rouge 4 stands for, but I'm guessing that it falls around the 4 catgories that the lipsticks are built: Passion, Inspiration, Emotion, Strength, or: Fire, Air, Water, Earth. I've no idea what constitutes the color groups or how on earth they classified them into those groups - maybe a Japanese-reading MUA member can enlighten me on the matter.

Nonetheless, the new formulation is certainly something worth raving about - absolutely creamy and smooth and soft as silk is the only way to describe it. If you remember the Lip Rouges, they were hard and waxy (which is what I liked about them) and to some, seemed very dry and hard to apply. The Rouge 4 is on the opposite end of the spectrum with soft and emolient being it's qualities.

The colors range from opaque creams, to multi-faceted shimmers, to outright frosts. But most are beautiful colors and much like the colors in the regular Lip Rouge range. The numbering systems is also similar. The numbers I favor most: 276 a deep golden red-plum, 797 a shimmery plummy brown, 565 a frosty coppery orange peach, and 908 a forsty nude gold. There are 24 colors in all, but only 15 are available States side for the moment. The packaging is a bit chubbier than the Lip Rouge, but still has the clear plastic cover to show the color through. Definitely worth the $20.00.
