Again another fantastic product which Shiseido has discontinued. I don't know if they're trying to piss of and shoo away their loyal clients or what!
Background: Fair East Asian skin. Pretty normal (slightly oily in warmer months, dry cheeks during cooler months). I'm in my mid 20's. I follow my skincare regiment strictly.
I love how this product is simple. It's not like the Bio-Performance discs which have crazy exfoliating chemicals and stuff. For somebody who's young and is very enthusiastic about skin care, they don't need (and may not want) chemical exfoliants.
I found this product is exactly what is says it is: A Polisher (not an exfoliant). This is product that is gentle and effective, even though it doesn't feel like it. I think many persons are used to the "scrubbing" and are not use to being gentle to your skin.
I love this product maybe 1-3 times a week depending. I find it works best on those random rough patches I get on the side of my cheek. Those rough patches are not something I want to exfoliate (because it'll make it worse--already tried and learned). The silk puff is excellent at POLISHING away the rough spots without irritating the skin.
So sad Shiseido is slowly discontinuing all of my FAVORITE products which have kept me loyal to the brand since I started using it, which was when I hit puberty. :*(
If you folks want a great gentle exfoliater: Clarin's Gentle Exfoliating refiner is great!

Don't be off-put by the simplicity of the product. IT WORKS! Dry patches begone!!! No irritating or drying effects either! Be warned - don't scrub too hard because it WILL make your face raw. (Overuse can cause this problem as well.) This product works perfectly for my sensitive skin without any sort of chemicals. Surprisingly inexpensive, too.

As far as I've seen, this really doesn't do much. It doesn't work any better than any of the less expensive things I've tried in the past.

I can't believe some of the reviews that state they didn't see any difference, and the one saying the puff was slimy; that would be your dead skin that's builing up in the fibers. I have been using this for almost five years now and wouldn't be without it, I've got wildly sensitive skin and have never had any type of discomfort from using it. Before my shower I run it under some water to dampen it, then when I'm finished showering it has had time for the fibers of silk to soften a bit.

I'm finally writing a review of this, now that my puff has fallen apart with age and I realize I really miss what it can do for my skin! I had bought it one day when I decided to try a Shiseido skin care regimen. On the whole I was happy with the products, but they're a little pricey so I decided to look for less expensive substitutes (and thanks to MUA, I discovered Paula's Choice!). However, this little silk puff is pretty amazing. Like the last poster, I was surprised that such a soft little thing could actually remove dead skin cells! I use it about twice a week, after washing, and it's amazing how much dead skin flakes off. Especially from my chin area, for some reason. But now that mine is gone and it's been a few weeks since I"ve used it, I can really see the difference in my skin -- I miss that clarity and smoothness that the puff can achieve.
One poster commented that it was too harsh on her skin: as long as you're gentle and don't overdo it, you'll be fine. I'm surprised more people haven't discovered this puff. I find it less harsh and more effective than those facial cloths (which can definitely make my skin red and raw).

this thing is nothing short of a miracle! i never thought this silky smoothe little pad could do anything, but in the winter i get terrible flakes from retin-a. i bought it with the notion of returning it immediately if it did not work. holy cow!!! it is soooo gentle and non- abrasive! and it takes off all the dead flakey skin! it is interesting- you dont use it with soap, you use it AFTER you cleanse your face. while it is still wet, wet the silk pouf and just run it over your face in circles. presto!! and it is only $10 to boot!!

I used this over the summer and remember listening the the SA who strongly recommended not using everyday and when using this only lightly stroking skin with puff. THis is a small oval puff of silk (yes, real silk) that exfoliates your skin. YOu are supposed to use when skin is damp and gently sweep over your skin. Well, the next day I woke up to find an abrasion on my left cheekbone- Yikes! I barely touched my skin and it this little puff rubbed it raw. It took a week to heal and I still recall how horrible it looked as it crusted over. NOT for sensitive skin people!

I bought for about US$5 on ebay. A cute little sponge in a cute green tray. I like how soft it is but Im not sure it's really doing anything for my skin. I'm afraid to use it roughly because the package insert and reviews say it will unravel after a few uses. 5 for packaging because its sooo cute!

I used this product for about a week now. I did not really see any exfoliating "properties" that the product claims. Notwithstanding, it felt good against my skin and I would try it again, before making final judgment.
Update: Would not buy again due to the distasteful texture of the product after about 2 weeks of usage. It felt slimy. A loofah or "poofy" would last longer and do the same job for much less money.

I bought the puff, but ended up only using it once or twice. It didn't seem to do much for me. Not worth the effort and $$, I think.

OK, I don't know if this product really works or not on me. 'cause i've been using the massaging brush and the puff routinely, but still unsure if this thing really helps my skin condition or not. I mean, for $10, it's quiet expensive, considering it will only last you about 2 weeks. I think this is just one of those Shiseido's hypes and I just don't get it.

i guess its okay. doesn't really work but its better than nothing.

Uhh... this thing is pretty weird, frays super fast (I've only used it about 5 times and already it's layers are visibly tearing), and I'm not sure how much it's actually exfoliating. I'm not sure whether I want to return it yet...

??? I really didn't get the point of this product... The packaging was so cute and that was the main reason I bought this. I really didn't see any noticeable trace of improvement after using this "puff". The idea of cleaning your face with silk seems romantic and innovative, but this was one of the most useless purchases I have made. Save your money!

I found this to be an utterly useless product. A palm sized puff made of pure silk, this is meant to cleanse and exfoliate the skin while promoting smoothness. It's simple to use - just run it under lukewarm water and wipe your face gently. It sounded great to me, but in reality this is nothing more than an expensive Buf Puf, though to its credit it doesn't feel quite as harsh or abrasive. The packaging is cumbersome - the sponge has its own little plastic tray which slides into its own little plastic box. I didn't want to leave the tray out in the open for the duration of the life of this product, so I had no choice but to store it in the box. After using this religiously for a couple of months, I can't say my skin feels any different at all.
