I have a confession to make about this product - I use it exclusively on my face and neck. And you know what? It works miracles. I have scars leftover from my acne ridden teenage years and scabs from picking at blemishes and the occasional pimple. After cleansing, I massage this into my face and go to bed. It leaves my skin soft, supple and moisturised in the morning and I just have to splash some cold water, and my skin is ready to apply make up. I think girls with sensitive, problem skin could give this a go on their face too.
WARNING: This product does smell like someone shoved an exotic rainforest up your nostril, not for the fainthearted when it comes to strong scents.

A lot of negative reviews are because the users think this is a hand cream. It is not. It is a hand TREATMENT ! I absolutely love it. I had seriously dry, chapped and flaky white hands because of the cold winter and have used several hand creams. All of these only worked superficially and very temporaraly. This hand salve was the only product that completely releaved and repaired my ultra dry hands - in ONE night ! I love the herbal smell actually, and do not find it overpowering. I also love the packaging, you do not have to squeeze in a tube to get the product out. This is a very concentrated balm, which I apply with my finger tops (I do not put it on my palms). Yes, it is greasy, but in a nice way, not in a vaseline kind of way. You do not need to use a lot of product. Just massage it over your hands and go to bed. I did not even have to wear gloves. There is an immediate sense of relief when you put this product on your skin. The next morning, they felt healed and look great again. I highly recommaend this product as a hand treatment.

I just don't get this... like is it literally supposed to be used on the hand as i would use lotion, or just on my cuticles?
It's cause I don't really mind the smell (sorta minty and like balm which i put on when i'm sick) - but it's too greasy to put on as lotion and too expensive for such a small tin.... it's just sitting in the cabinet :(

I thought this was going to be amazing. It's too heavy and it smells like cardboard. Unfortunately, it's going to remain on my desk at work forever since it's such a lot and I never throw away anything.

Perfect Cuticle/Nail moisturizer. This has the perfect blend of oils to moisturize your cuticles and keep your fingernails nourished and strong, with the added benefits of the beeswax to lock the moisture in place. Smells like Vick's vapo-rub (not so sexy) but I just rub this into my nails and cuticles befor bed. Works like a charm & lasts forever. I love how this is a hard balm and with the heat of your finger it melts immediately into an oil, and spreads easily. I used to use a nail oil and then a seperate moisturizer to seal in the oil. This is the prefect 2 in 1. Plus the small tin makes it easy to stow these babies all over the house, so I'm constantly reminded to use it. Would love if they improved the scent but I wear it for the results not the smell. The only way my nails grow/stay strong is if I CONSTANTLY moisturize them. This does the trick. Wish they would do a vanilla scent in this - I'd buy a tub!

I'm a big simple ingredient product person, and don't like the typical creams that turn out drying since they contain alchohol, (Ex. Lubriderm, Suave, etc.) But Burt's is always organic so the salve is incredible since I need a salve or ointment to keep it feeling moisturized. This is cheap, there's a ton of it, and prefer the jar to a pump. Awesome stuff and, I multi-task it as a eye makeup wiper under the eyes. For the body etc. Get it !

I also got this in a Burt's Bees starter kit and boy does it stink! I just put it on at work and I really wish I didn't. Lol someone described it as a medicine cabinet smell and that's exactly what it is. It is super greasy and makes my hands kinda feel like I put tiger balm on it... a menthol-y smell/sensation. I think they could've done a better job at this. The little tin is small and convenient but I doubt I'll ever buy this again...even if it comes free with something else, i'll just toss it or give it away---that is if someone actually wants the thing!

This product is amazing. My hands and feet are as dry as they get and moisturizer just wasn't penetrating. I bought this on a whim, and I love it. It smells a bit like celery, but the smell is hardly noticeable. I bought it for about ten dollars at the grocery store and I've used it several times. I don't feel it's greasy, it penetrates rather quickly. My skin feels so much better. A complete God send.

Ok, I have mixed opinion about this product.
I first bought this in a small tin, part of the 'Burts Bees trial kit pouch'. THAT product was really good - smelled wonderful, not greasy, easy to rub onto the hands or feet - absolutely great!
That made me buy the larger (3 oz?) tin for 10 bucks. This product was quite different than the trial kit product - same name, same ingredients. I wonder what changed? This salve is super-greasy, smells okay and is NOT moisturizing. There is a difference between moisturizing and greasy. All it does is leave a thick greasy film on the hands. In winter, the salve hardens and has to be dug out of the tin, making it a nasty messy ordeal.
Are trial sizes meant to be 'alluring' and therefore more 'pure' in content so that people can be tricked into buying larger quantities of that product!?

This is not the most elegant product; it feels a little greasy at first and has a slightly medicinal smell. But this is a very useful product to have on hand if you have very dry skin or chapped hands. It's especially good for the winter time. I sometimes put it on before I put on my winter gloves to go outside, or I put it on before I go to bed. You only need a small amount at a time. I like the packaging, too.

I doubt I would have to buy this again for a very long time because it lasts forever but I would. It's the only non medical cream that I use for my eczema that really works. I couldn't believe it. The relief is almost instantaneous. A bit pricey but lasts forever

This hand salve is as unassuming as it gets. It's packaged in a tiny tin, has no strong smell, is loaded with emollients, yet is not sticky or too greasy. It's got a bunch of extracts in it like rosemary and comfrey root, but they are barely noticeable. The salve works quickly and soaks into dry skin and cuticles. Slips easily into a purse or pocket and is very soothing. It's one of those products that you look over at the drug store, but it becomes your best friend once you start using it. Especially nice before bed time. I will keep several in different purses and one in my nightstand drawer.

This stuff is INCREDIBLE. I've used it for years for chapped hands and lips and never realized it could cure my staph-related acne until this week. Normally I take curcumin for this but I'm pregnant and it isn't recommended for pregnant women. Since I've stopped taking it I've struggled to keep the redness around my nostrils and nearby blackheads under control with 20% salicylic acid peels, which while doing wonders for enlarged pores on my cheeks didn't do anything for my nostrils. They just ended up irritated and more red. Well last week the corner of my mouth started to turn red in a tell tale way (staph likes to infect weaker membranes such as near your lips and nose) and I tried another salicylic acid peel and of course it just irritated the area and made it chap and crack. So I got out my Hand Salve yesterday and applied to the corner of my mouth and edges of my nostrils for the chapping and peeling. I wasn't worried about the oil clogging my pores (I use the Oil Cleansing Method with olive oil and castor oil to keep my regular acne under control and it works because I don't get pimples anymore) but I haven't ever applied beeswax to my face so I wasn't sure how my very sensitive skin would react, but I decided to take a chance. I kept applying for the rest of the day (I stayed home) and in the evening the difference was AMAZING. I couldn't believe it, I expected the chapping to improve but was completely surprised at how all the redness had faded to a mild pink. I took a chance and smeared it all over my nose and chin before I went to bed. I woke up and the blackheads on my nose are nearly invisible! OCM and pore strips wouldn't even touch them (they'd come back in a couple of hours) but my nose has been clear all day and I can barely see some pinkness in my nostril creases. And the chapped redness at the corner of my mouth is still pink but is healing very quickly. And I have no acne bumps from applying the salve to my face. I did some research on the ingredients and I think the main contributors are the comfrey root extract and the eucalyptus oil. Comfrey root contains allantoin which increases cell proliferation and thereby speeds skin healing. Eucalyptus oil apparently kills several strains of staph including MRSA (theres a few studies online).

I think this product is great! The smell doesn't bother me, I think it's relaxing. I put it on before bed and put gloves on, and when I wake up my hands are really soft.

The smell seems to be bothering everybody, but as Natural Health Practitioner in training, I can honestly say that the smell is as natural as you can get, I would prefer this scent over a chemically add-in that is harmful to my body.
This moisturizes well, the key is to use a little bit at a time for your hands if you are going to do something right immediately afterwards; if not then enjoy the melty goodness and super moisturization of this product :)

GREAT winter hand salve. North Texas winters are windy and even with gloves my hands get chapped and cracked. This product takes a long time to absorb into the skin but once I use it regularly nothing else even comes close to keeping my skin healthy...just don't put it on and try to handle knives right after. :)

THIS IS GOD SENT! I know a lot of people complain about the smell. But this is natural! You can't expect it to have artificial fragrance added to it? The smell is really nice, IMO, .Very natural, relaxing, relieves my headache and stress.
I have very dry skin, and although it's oily, it's meant for people with severely dry skin (like i used to have until i discovered this). there's other lotions that absorb really well, but after an hour or so, dry flakes start appearing again. this is meant to be oily so that it stays onto your skin and moisture doesn't escape. it's HG for people with dermatitis or ezema like conditions like me... and to be used more as a night treatment, wear cotton gloves after :)
this MELTS into your skin, and just keep rubbing it in before you sleep.
overall an excellent product.

The positives of this product DEFINITELY outweigh the negatives. The only things that I find wrong are the packaging (I have a lip balm in the same type of tin, and I can't get it open anymore. My boyfriend had to bang at it with a small hammer to get the lid off). I fear that the same situation will end up happening to this one. Also, if you get the full sized tin for $9 it's a bit pricey for what you are getting, although I have the 3oz (or .3oz?) mini size, and I can tell it's going to last me through the winter.
Anyway, I work in a coffee shop so I am constantly washing my hands, not to mention BURNING them on hot water and coffee (at least 3 times a week). They get dried out and hurt SO bad. But every night I rub this into my knuckles, around my nail beds, and in the "L" shape in between my thumb and index finger (for some reason, that spot gets SO dry) and then rub my hands together and cover with socks before bed. When I wake up, my hands are SO soft. They stay that way throughout the day until I can come home and repeat treatment. I love this stuff, and I'll definitely get it again!

Super greasy, never really absorbed. Smells absolutely HORRIBLE. Like stomach churning. Smells like you rubbed a cough drop all over your hands. YUCK. I give it 1 lippie for the cute tin.

Blechhhh! This has eucalyptus oil in it as well as other ingredients that make it smell terrible -- like the medicine cabinet at a nursing home! Ack! It is also VERY greasy. I also don't care for the (.30 oz/8.5 g) metal tin packaging one bit. Burt's Bees products are also way too pricey for what they are, IMO! Ick...I don't like it...don't like it one bit!
INGREDIENTS: Sweet almond oil, olive oil, beeswax, tocopheryl acetate and tocopherol (vitamin E), comfrey root extract, rosemary oil & leaf extract, lavandin oil & flower extract, eucalyptus oil.
