pros:
nice coverage, nice smell, doesn't break me out, like the sponge

cons:
does poor job at keeping shine at bay so I have to do touch ups every 1-2 hours if I want to stay matte, the lightest shade is too dark for me and it's way to pricey.

Wouldn't repurchase.

I never really was a foundation user before the last couple months, I have pretty good skin and don't really use it, but I decided to buy a good quality foundation for those special days.
I bought this foundation, and I love it! although I dont really have much to compare it to, it can be cakey if you apply too much so im very careful and try not to use to much product. I dont break out that much from it at all, gives me a good look I think.
The only small things I didnt like was that I had to purchase the compact case seperately for another 6 dollars. The foundation itself is kind of pricey, and the case doesnt even look that nice. I also thought they had a limited selection of colors. Mine matches me, but is slightly darkr than my skin color, I probably couldve gotten a better foundation color somewhere else.
Overall I love this product though!

I have mixed opinions about this. I find it to be too thick for a pressed powder. It looks very cakey on my face. I do like the fact its oil free though, and thus I haven't had any breakouts. I just don't like the way it looks on! Its such a shame because it stays matte the whole day. I just think its way too thick and leaves a funny cast over my face. There are other foundations out there that are both oil free and offer sun protection so I don't think I'll be repurchasing. I might keep this as a backup for those days when I run out of my usual foundation. It might work for some people but it doesn't make the cut for me. But give it a try anyway, you might like it. Good luck.

I don't like this compact powder! It make my oily T-zone (nose) shine after 1 HOUR! And the price is really expensieve! I've paid almost 30 euro for this powder! If it works I don't mind the price. But this was really waste of my money T_T!

I think I will try MAC

I remember being addicted to this fdn 10 years ago when acne suddenly started to plague my life. I was a big fan and I still am. I used this for some time and got so impressed I tried the Pureness skincare line, which is not as impressive as this fdn.

This baby did not cause any allergy or additional break out and must be cheap (otherwise I wouldn't patronize ten years ago). The color range and oil-control was good, coverage is to-die-for and it was quite velvety on my face. Came with a cutesy blue rectangular casing. Now that I run across this thread, I am thinking of buying a refill of this baby for lazy days, just wondering whether they changed the formulation or whether it could fit the casing that comes with Shi's Poreless.

I LOVE the coverage and this doesn't break me out. It makes my skin look flawless but even the lightest shade is too dark :( I wish they'd come up with more shades. By the way, this is a *foundation* powder, not a finishing powder. Of course it would be too thick over another foundation. This powder gives pretty decent coverage.

If they add more shades, please send me a message?

I have tried almost every oil- free compact powder under the sun from Chanel's double perfection to cheap Almay. This is the most coverage i have recieved from an oil- free powder. I actually work as a cosmetics SA and this the ONLY powder that is able to last my sweaty 8 hour shifts. (i have a t-zone that is extremely oily and makes most foundation very grainy looking) I am so suprised that the reviews so far have only been so- so. A lot of MAC SA also agreed with me that this is their number one go to on days wear they dont feel like wearing heavy makeup. This i would say provides medium coverage but this is DEFINITELY BUILDABLE. It also does a wonderful job in concealing my huge pores around my nose area. I finish the powder off with Mac's fix + spray and Voila! you get an instant airbrushed look. I love this powder so much but i wouldn't reccommend this for girls who are residing in windy conditions (no powder type foundation would be able to work for them)

1. ugly packaging (looks like cheap compact powder)..
2. it doesn't really make you looks like wearing any powder.. doesn't cover much
3. vast range of colors
4. stays only for 2 hours

This is my go-to powder whenever I don't need a ton of make up on. Normally I use chanel's double perfection, but this is for those days that I don't need to see a ton of people (like a trip to the nearest super market) This does a really good job at mattifying, very nice and natural coverage. One of the VERY few powders there is that mattifies and DOES NOT break your skin out. This is a cheap price for high quality powder. Main disadvantage for this is color selection :( wish they made this in more colors!

I reviewed this before and although I love the colour and the way my pores dissapear with this make-up, the problem was that it just didn't stay matt for long. After reading recommendations on MUA, I purchased MAC Blot Powder and use this over the top of Shiseido. What a difference! My make-up lasts for ages, it sounds like powder overload but it isn't, my skin looks great when I wear this combo. Oily girls give it a try!

UPDATE: Do not drop the case. I opted for what I thought was the sturdier case, but one day, I accidentally dropped the case and the powder cracked. It's been a mess ever since with powder getting everywhere. I keep my compact in a plastic baggy now. : (

----------------------------------------------
For reference, I have sensitive, combination, acne-prone skin. Before this foundation, I had been using MAC's Studio Fix in C4. It lasted almost a year, but I didn't like how it would make dry, flaky acne scars stand out. Often, the makeup wouldn't blend well with my skin. You could tell I had a layer of makeup on.

When I ran out of MAC's SF, I went to Shiseido and the MA recommended this foundation because I was acne prone and oily.

So far so good! I think it looks more natural on me. It doesn't feel as heavy as the SF. I feel like my skin can breathe more. I still use Laura Mercier's secret concealer to cover up redness and scarring. I find that I get better coverage when I use a sponge (vs. a brush), but I still have to touch up/reapply after a few hours. I also get less stray powder flying up when I use a sponge.

The case is flimsy, though. It looks cheap. I agree with the other reviewers... get the case for their The Makeup line instead. The cost is the same, but The Makeup case is sturdier, looks nicer, and there is a flap that separates the sponge from the foundation.

I am in my 20s, with combination skin. I bought this to cover the shine on my face due to the sunscreen I use. I do not dare to use Mac face powder as it seems to create tiny bumps on my cheeks. Upon application of this powder, it somehow makes my face look really glowy and pretty! I took one star off because it only kept the shine at bay for about a few hours. I will update again to let you know if this causes any sort of breakouts for me.

I have used this off and on for several years. I have oily, acne-prone skin with yellow undertones (Asian). This makeup is pretty long-lasting and covers very well. I can even wear this alone and it covers pimples and uneven patches. The only problem is that the colors are very dark. The lightest shade is too dark for me, and that is why I am currently looking for something new.

For reference: NC40, Asian, combo/oily skin with flakies.
Pros:
- excellent coverage when applied wet.
- powdery at first but settles nicely into the skin about 1 hour later
- oil-free (not sure about breakout though, I'll update later)
- contains spf
- reasonable price

Cons:
- the sponge is right on top of the powder--> not very hygenic
- very limited colour range. ( I use #30)
- doesn't last very long ( starts to melt after 6-8 hours)
- leaves me shiny after 4 hours (nothing a little silk dust can't fix).

Overall, a very nice product for combination & slightly oily skin.

this is the best oil-free foundation i've ever tried! my skin had been breaking out pretty badly for the past 6 months and no matter what i did my skin still kept breaking out. you can imagine how frustrated i was! and i was following Dan Kern's "clear skin regime" (2.5% benzoyl peroxide + oil-free moisturizer twice a day - i use Shiseido Pureness matifying moisturizer) strictly and still saw no improvement. well, my skin actually started to get a LITTLE better since i started using the Pureness matifying moisturizer. but it was still not good enough.

anyways, i was using estee lauder Futurist foundation at that time. too oily. then i switched to Chanel's Double Percetion compact. too cakey. and not helping my breakouts. that was until i found this Pureness foundation compact on strawberrynet.com (it is not available in australia). the first time around i got the wrong color (chose the second lightest then realized it is way too dark! its so hard to choose the right shade looking only at the color swatches on computer!!) but i liked it so much i didnt mind shelling out money for the same product again, this time in Light Ivory (lightest shade).

the first day i used it my colleague commented how "rested" i looked! and for the whole 6 months she never said that tehehe! and my skin is clearing up big time now. i look almost like one of those people who gave testimonials in the ProActiv ads on infomercial hahaha - ok maybe my skin didnt break out THAT badly to begin with but the transformation is amazing!!!!! im loving my skin now... and i know it has something to do with this compact foundation. im not gonna say it is solely because of this foundation though, because if you want clear skin you need to have the right combination of skincare and makeup. i believe it was the 2.5% BP + shiseido pureness matifying moisturizer + pureness compact foundation + Acnil concealer that cleared my skin.

all in all, i will keep purchasing this foundation til the end of time!!! :):):)

im just so happy i've found it. thanks MUA! *mwah*

UPDATE (21 June 2008): still following Dan Kern's regimen (it's been 2.5 years now) and i rarely break out now. so i've switched from Shiseido Pureness to La Prarie (powder foundation) and Jill Stuart (loose powder). i've never been happier :)

The shade didnt match me so well and the powder dried out my face in certain areas like my cheeks. I had to reapply maybe 2-3 times a day because what little coverage it provided me before had completely worn off. And the packaging was different from otheer shiseido products. Most of the compacts have the puff in a seperate "level" to avoid bacteria and germs from the puff getting to the powder. This product had the puff directly ontop

Can't say I'm too impressed with this powder. It matches my neck/arms perfectly, but turns a weird orangey shade with the oil my face. It doesn't come in many shades and the refill falls out of the compact. I love Shiseido products usually. I'm attributing this lack of satisfaction to the limited number of shades. There isn't much for really pale olivey people like me. Any MUA member suggestions for a great oil-controlling powder foundation would be appreciated!

Very expensive, and I find that Mac Blot or cheapie NYC powders work better in keeping my skin oil-free. I like the idea of the added sunscreen though.

I didn't buy this product, but I received it in a swap. I really like this powder foundation. I have it in 10-light ivory. It is actually slightly darker than my skin, but it is great for the summer/fall. I love the texture and coverage, and the color stays true all day on my overly oily skin. When I run out, I will probably look into purchasing more.
