At first I loved this product, it does produce very good body while helping lock in styling. However, after several months of using this as directed, I noticed that my hair was looking far more damaged than usual, it didn't look smooth anymore, split-ends were out of control, and it was much dryer than ever before. Since this is the only thing I changed in my hair routine, I decided this product must be the culprit, and upon further investigation I realized it was probably due to its very high alcohol content. I should have read the ingredients more carefully, most gels have alcohol, but up until I started using this stuff I was using a minimal amount of hair gel in the front of my part only to keep it straight. It was when I started running this product through my hair everyday that the damage started. Well, I learned my lesson, and after six months of babying my hair it is back to where it was before I used this product. I'm now relying on conditioners to give me body and only use gel on my part like I had done in the past.

This is a great volumizing product! I like it because it gives enough volume without looking like you have some sort of crazy bouffant. It doesn't flake or leave my hair sticky like some other volumizing products I've tried. I hate feeling like I have product in my hair so I love that this is lightweight but still gives results!

This. Is. Awesome. If you have fine, wavy hair that falls flat in an hour, this is the gel for you.

It's not sticky or goopy. It brings out the wave in my hair and gives it a bit of volume on top. I can brush through my hair with no problem. Absolute holy grail. My hair is 100x more manageable and able to style with this stuff. My hair is chin length with bangs and it only takes a dime-size drop. The manufacturers of this deserve a reward.

Good stuff!

This is the best volumizing gel out there.
AND its effectiveness stand alone with any
shampoo/conditioner.
YOu don't need to use the same line shampoo/condition
to get results.

This is very expensive.. but worth it.

First, the pump was completely stuck... it took some doing to get it opened. Once I did.... omg. I have thick, heavy, long hair. This stuff totally lifts up my roots and gives great volume. My hair feels so light and doesn't have that dicky gel feeling to it from the product. It also combined well with my anti frizzled serum. Yay! Overall, love it!!

After I tried Big Sexy Hair Powder - I got trial sizes of the shampoo, conditioner and this gel at CVS. I really love what it does to my hair. Before, my hair was thin and flat and would droop after a few hours. This really keeps its hold!

Yes, this is great product. First it's nice because after I put it on my hair my hands are not greasy or creamy just like after other similar products.... the volume is just unbelievable.. super big.... and I used all kind of volume stuff on market, including Tigi... nothing is good enough....
this one is close to my HG....

I literally just purchased this product today on a whim and felt the need to write a review due to its performance.
I have long, thick blonde hair, but I want even more volume and texture -- can't go wrong with that. I was looking for some type of a volumizing product and this one caught my eye mostly because I also have the hair spray, so I figured why not give this a try despite the face that I avoid using gels or heavy products of any kind.
It looks exactly like it does in the photo - a red bottle with a pump dispenser. The gel inside is clear and doesn't really have a very strong scent; couldn't even tell that it had any at all really.
I washed my hair and towel dryed as usual. Than I applied a heat protectant spray and put small amounts of this gel throughout pieces of my hair, concentrating from the root through the entire strands.
I blow dryed with a large ground brush while lifting at the roots to add extra volume. This product really works. It made my hair more volumized and fluffy (not in a bad frizzy sort of way). My hair definitely feel more textured after using this product; it's that type of feeling when you just get out of the salon and your hair feels big and fabulous.
It is a bit pricey but definitely worth it. You don't need a lot of product to achieve results. I will repuchase this for sure and may even try the shampoo and conditioner if they work as well as this gel.

I use this product after shampooing and conditioning my hair with the "Big sexy hair volumizing shampoo and conditioner". I towel dry my hair a little, apply a couple pumps of the gel starting at the roots, and then I use a wide tooth comb, toss my hair up in a loose bun on top of my head for about 5 minutes, and then I let it down, blow dry it, and style it and it comes out amazing! Best volumizing products I have ever used!

The only thing I don't like, is that I have trouble locking the cap.

Meh - did nothing for my hair other than to make it a bit crunchy and kind of dry looking. Still looking for the HG volumizing product...

I have fine blonde hair and my hairdresser used this product on me. It worked well and I purchased it. What I find is it works well the first time but it doesn't after that. The reason being is it isn't washing out of my hair. It takes about 3 or 4 hair washes before it seems to be completely out. Until it does wash out my hair acts dead and I can't do ANYTHING with it. Disappointing because I find it does give a bit of oomph to my hair on the first use.

Did nothing for volume. I have long, fine hair and combed a quarter size amount from roots to end. After I blow dried, I was suprised that my hair almost looked even flatter than when I don't use anything. My hair didn't feel crunchy or weighed down though.

However, it helped with flyaways. I have been having issues with static and this helped more than anything else I have tried. Pleasant suprise! I will finish the bottle for that purpose, but won't be rebuying for volume.

definitely saw a difference between flat and volumized.
it wasn't dramatically different but wayyyy better how my hair normally looks; flat no volume, no body.
it gives you a natural bounce to your hair. if you want more volume though i suggest hair spray of your choice.
this kind of weighs my hair down.

I am in like/love with this product. I really like it on some days - some days I have this amazing OOMPH and then other days - trying to reproduce the effect - notsomuch. I'm not sure if it's the humidity in the environment, maybe it's me, maybe it's my shampoo/conditioner…I don't know.

Much like 1017 below me, I see how it doesn't do much if you don't blow dry. You're really better off blow drying it and controlling how it dries. I do agree and like that it's a soft feeling gel.

I have noticed that my hair not only volumizes with this gel but it's easier to scrunch & wave my hair (which is fine textured, naturally lightly wavy & color treated).

Some days I love this gel, others it feels so "eh". The biggest plus about this gel is that it leaves your hair SOFT! Absolutely no crunch. And FYI, I think the "blow dry" part is very important. I have never used this and then air dry. That said, I also see what some people say about lack of volume...many days I feel like I have nothing extra. But some days, I get the most amazing oomph. It is something I will always at least have at least a travel sized bottle on hand. I have been trying Brocato Swell mousse and it has the same issue, some days...massive volume...others..."eh". But the Brocato leaves crunch and grit where the SHC Volumizing Gel leaves my hair silky soft with swing and movement...even if it is an "eh" day. The Volumizing Gel would also be great for round brushing your hair...massive volume. I usually wear mine curly (fine, wavy, curly).

PROS: Does volumize somewhat.

CONS: Drying for my dry ends. Makes hair kind of flyaway texture.

ALTERNATES: Much prefer TiGi Cat walk Root boost for roots.

This gel did nothing for me. Left my hair dull, limp and weighed down after a couple of hours. I tried it several times, making sure I didn't use too much, and I did use it with my blow dryer, as instructed, but it just didn't work. I went to my hairdresser and she recommended Tri's Aerogel, which is a spray product that can go in before you style (like a gel), or after (like a hairspray). That stuff is amazing and really does work. The Big Sexy product is going back to the store.

I received this as a gift with the opening of a new Ulta. I never use gel in my hair, so it took me a couple of tries to get the hang of this. First, my hair is long, pretty straight, and I have a lot of it. I found the best way to use this is to use a little less than a quarter size of gel, rub between my hands, and distribute evenly from roots to tips, concentrating more below the roots since I don't want oily hair. I blow it dry and when I am done, I DID notice more volume around my roots, but it was a small change, noticeable only to me. In the end, it was not enough to be worth using because I like to wash my hair every other day, and when I used the gel, it made my hair look too dirty the next day. I would recommend if you washed every day.
