This is expensive for what you get, that is a nice soothing hydrating serum that removes redness/blotchiness, but does not contain anti-aging ingredients. Also, no hyaluronic acid or sodium PCA. On the plus side, it is a bare-bones, no frills hydrating serum that works very well on my oily, yet dehydrated and acne prone skin, also makes a nice makeup base and for that reason I will continue to shell out the $40 plus. I love the heavy glass container with convenient pump dispenser. Lately, my a.m. routine has been to cleanse with Avene Micellar lotion, follow with a spritz of Avene Thermal Water, pat dry, follow with one squirt of Soothing Serum and a few drops of Darphin Facial Oil, and pat gently into skin. In summer, I will probably skip the facial oil. At night, I use this and follow with either Avene Ystheal Emulsion or Darphin Purifying Balm, depending on the state of my skin that day.

Avene products work wonders on my dry skin which when irritated gets red & flakey. This serum helps out with patches of dryness i get around my nose and works well under my makeup, i also have used it post-aha/bha facewash which can be drying & leaves my skin tight & it worked well . The serum does what it claims to do but personally i feel a moisturiser will do the same, for my skin anyway, so this product wont get a permenant place in *my* skincare regimen but it does what it claims to do and does it well!

I got this in sample form from the counter as the SA said she wouldn't accept returns and £16.50 is a hefty price if it all goes wrong!

Anyway, not sure why I tried this as i'm fairly happy with my routine - but I did and even though its only been a few days i'm pretty pleased.

I put it on under my moisturiser as directed and that was fine - super soft skin and just smoothes out the complextion amazingly. I have also tried it mixed with my moisturiser and that worked just as well. I'm not sure which skin type this is meant for but I am oily/acne prone and sensitive.

Today I went to put on makeup and found that I only needed concealer (woooo!) as my red slodges on my cheeks have almost gone. Now this may be a temporary effect whilst you're using the serum but either way I'm happy! I have a wedding to go to this month and I will be so happy if my skin is still this good. Sounds vain I know but I learnt - sadly - from my own wedding that those photos last a lifetime!

The bottle looks to be hygenic (pump bottle) and transportable. I think it is glass but looks fairly sturdy. The price is high as I mentioned but I think it just might be worth it. May buy it this week if I'm passing the shops.....

UPDATE - put this one to 3 lippies as its caused me millia around my eyes. I read that can happen due to too much protein in a product. I have scaled back on using it to a few times a week and being really careful. Its a shame It causes problems because my husband bought me the full bottle as a gift.

Ok, it's only been one night but I have to rave about how this product saved my skin last night.

I tried some glycolic acid product yesterday morning (which is really stupid of me because I've had trouble with this product in the past) and by the end of the work day, my skin was red and had red bumps sprouting up on my cheeks. I knew it had to be irritation from the product and needed to get something ASAP to calm my skin back down.

All of the Avene products I have are very calming and non-irritating so I thought I'd stop by CVS to see if they had anything to help my problem.

I got this, went home, washed my face with Avene Micellar Lotion (my current cleanser) and put this serum on top of it. I used nothing else on top of the serum and went to bed

When I woke up this morning, the redness is gone, the bumps are going away but they're not red and inflamed anymore. As an added bonus, my skin feels really comfortable and smooth. I am very happy that I found this product.

While I think this serum has great potential I don't understand why it has a fragrance at all. The fragrance really irritated my skin and I'll be returning this product. I've been using the skin recovery line from Avene with success and I thought this would be a good addition. If you have any sensitivity to fragrance, stay away from this product.

This gel has a wonderful moist consistency that is instantly absorbed by my skin. For myself, I find it is best applied after washing with tepid water ( I’m currently using Avene Cold Cream Gel ) and before any other product. My face instantly feels smooth and more elastic, I can make all sorts of faces without any tightness in my cheeks :p

My nasolabial folds are usually the first to turn red after any kind of washing or lotion, and there was zero reaction with this.

For reference I have combination skin that suddenly became quite dry everywhere but the T-zone since the weather started dropping. I was most impressed when I waxed my upper lip and brows yesterday and applied this gel on the tender skin afterwards - it eliminated the irritation. The glass bottle feels solid and the pump makes this much more sanitary than a jar. My only reservation is that the pump mechanism doesn’t allow me to dispense less than a teaspoon at time, no matter how slowly or gently I press down. However that doesn’t warrant the loss of a star at all, I’m far too pleased with this to give it less that 5 stars.

This serum is great though i have to use for a longer period to see results. Funny, my skin reacts very fast to bad products but very slow to react to good products like this.
It hydrates well but the soothing properties are not that strong. I still have reddish patches on cheeks after using for some time.

This product rocks! I had a horrible reaction to something I used, and my entire face turned red, itchy and flaky. I tried the Origins Plantidote cream for three days but, while it contained the flakiness, didn't really soothe the redness and itchiness. I came across the Avene brand in the pharmacy and decided to give it a try. I got this, Skin Recovery Cream and Soothing Mask (forgot the exact name) and my skin looked much better one application of the mask, serum and cream. I continued the process daily and my skin went back to normal by the end of the week. Since then, I have been using the serum and cream daily, and the mask once a week, and I am still loving the effects!

Impressive product, I can see results almost instantly. Helps plump up my skin after just a few uses. Make up goes on smoother and better. I hope this will help with laugh lines as well... but I guess I will need some time to see results

Definitely recommend this to those with dry skins!

I bought this serum when it was on promotion for $35.00 with the anti redness cream. I have combi skin that is dehydrated and I use this as a moisturiser by itself. It's so good that it smooths out my skin and hydrate it so nicely that my pores look smaller too. I don't know about the soothing part but my face does looks less red. It's very pricey at it's original price though, at $50.90. Think I must buy more of the $35.00 deal.

i think this serum is good in humid weathers. when i was in hk, this serum was super nice on my skin since it's humid and hot there. it cools my cheeks after shower.

but when i'm here in north CA, i don't find any results with this serum. therefore, i guess i'll bring this back to hk and use there instead next time.

This serum is great for the skin on my cheeks which can become red, dry and flaky. It instantly soothes them without stinging and the redness goes down in no time. Leaves the skin soft and silky too. The noozle is great as you can control how much you squeeze out. I bought 2 tubes in Japan. Can't seem to find it anywhere else that will deliver to Australia so I have to stock up when I go back to Japan.

Great product, especially for winter. Really reduces the red, blotchiness my skin has seemed to develop each winter over the last couple of years. It's really good to use after skin treatments like masks and scrubs. It's not a moisturizer though. I like to mix it with Avene's Clean-AC moisturizer.
