I own around 10 lipsticks now-all of whom have a special place. I am very lazy when it comes to makeup. I pay more so I can do less-meaning you won't see me doing constant retouches during the day as I cannot be bothered!!
Mac lipstick helps me with this as most are so pigmented that during a working day I may reapply twice.
What is great about Mac lipsticks are the in depth colour range, finish variations and (overall) longevity on the lips.
Lustre finishes are great subs for lip gloss: touch being my fav nude (C7/NC50 skin)
Satins are my ultimate Mac finish as they are glossy Mattes that last and last: Rebel is my everything. Verve is my fav nude (C7/NC50)
Mattes: last and last and last on the lips. LE Heroine and the HG Ruby Woo belong to this family. My fav nude is Taupe (C7/NC50)
Frost: retro 90s looking lipstick if I'm honest, but some shades are more subtle like HG Angel and Costa Chic<< on my to try list.
Glaze: slicker than lustres but relevant. Yet to own. Not sure if I will ever.
Even if the £14 price tag seems unreasonable, I suggest to try out at least one shade from *each finish as I guaran

Diss on MAC all you want, but you can't deny that they have something for everyone. They have different lipstick finishes and shades so there should be something there for you. I admire MAC lipsticks since I feel like they were one of the first companies to offer nude/light shades of lipsticks. Other brands often discontinue nude shades or use a undesirable finish therefore they don't cater to all their customers. I dislike the lustre finish though, it has no lasting power at all. I will repurchase.

I found that the formula is too dry and the lasting powder is weak. I have used two lipsticks from mac (one creme one frosty) and I didn't like either of them. Compare it to the HE lipsticks, the packaging quality is more like drugstore brands and there's less product in the tube (the mac lipstick lasted 6 months while my CHANEL allure lipstick lasted 2 years); compare it to the drugstore lipsticks, it doesn't offer a good value for money. Therefore I will not repurchase any lipstick from MAC.

I've tried several different products from MAC and love them all, but their lipsticks I think are something that really stand out to me. Whenever I go to the MAC counter, I always gravitate towards the lipsticks ... I have 6 of them (Russian Red, Please Me, Myth, Pretty Please, Creme Cup, and Plumful) and I think they're all awesome quality and for a higher end brand I think they have an amazing shade range for a decent price. When I look at other high-end brands I usually am not that impressed with the color selections, or at least not enough to shell over that kind of money for them. MAC has warm tones, cool tones, neutral tones; nudes, pinks, corals, oranges, reds, plums, browns, so there's pretty much something for everyone. My personal favorite finishes are the mattes (because they last long) and the lustres (because they're super easy to apply, even without a mirror). Plus I love the light vanilla-like smell and the super sleek black bullet packaging.
Next on my MAC lipstick wish list are: Speed Dial, Pink Plaid, and Syrup. :)

I've acquired over 20 MAC lippies and I love just about every one of them! I think one thing to consider before buying these lipsticks is the finish- I didn't understand the differences and was initially put off by the sheerness of the first lipsticks i bought; they were lusters and that was the point of them! lol once i started reading up on the different finishes, I was better informed when I did returnt o the counter to shop. My fave finishes now are mattes, amplifieds, and satins. for the most part, I dislike lusters and hate frosts. I think it's great that the brand has a such a large selection of permanent colors accross all finishes so that if you like a ligh-brown, for example, you can find one in a sheer finish, an opaque but shiny finish, or a matte finish. I also like the sleek packaging and the light vanilla scent to all their lippies. I am a fan of drugstore lipsticks (especially revlon), but find it difficult to pick the right shades without trying them on- I love that at MAC counters I can try on whatever shades I want and go out into natural light before deciding to buy. Their range is just amazing, they have every possible nude one could need and their reds are just as impressive. I also love that they have the back 2 mac program and that all proceeds from the viva glam line go to aids research. My favorite everyday shades are Viva Glam I, Cherish, Half n Half, Blankety, but I also love their more 'out there' shades like Morange, Up the Amp, and Pink Nouveau.

Love the colors, no question about that.
MAC has many beautiful and orginal shades, to fit every skintone. Many colors I can't find anywere else, for sure not for the same price.
I had- and still have- many MAC products.
But. But. But.
They don't stay on.At all.
You have to constantly apply the color if you want it to stay more than half an hour. If you eat- forget it. The lipstick will be off in a few minutes.I attented too many parties and occasions where my lipstick was off more than it was on.
This is something which bothers me, personally. I need my liptick to be more reliable. I feel ridiculous constantly reapplying. The stick gets used up faster, too.
If this doen't bother you, by all means go ahead and buy MAC lipsticks. The colors are stunning and the prices aren't too bad.

MAC lipsticks are the only lipsticks that tick all the boxes of being: Comfortable to put on and wear, lightweight, breathable, unflavored, no unpleasant tastes, and at least having a slight but forgettable scent that soon disappears and doesn't linger on you. And then of course there are all the different colors MAC provides within all the different lipstick color 'families'.
The only other lipstick out there that ticks those aforementioned boxes almost as well as MAC does is Revlon. Yes at least Revlon's cheaper than MAC and they do have a variety for a drugstore/pharmacy brand but they still don't have MAC's level of variety within all the different color families. But Revlon has managed to avoid flavoring or unpleasant tastes in their lipsticks, and for the most part, any lingering scents.
The most of the other lipsticks both high end and low end are either too perfumed and lingering, or too thick and heavy and 'present'. Or at times they'll be fabulous to look at and feel like at one time Nars, Black Opal, and today Illamasqua, but they have this horrible plastic-metallic chemical taste that you taste all day or especially when you drink hot drinks!
Or the color selection is horrible in general like a lot of the low end brands.

I disagree with most people here about the colour selection of MAC lipsticks. I find MAC's lipsticks either too grey, too brown, or too blue-based. I can't wear any of their famous/infamous reds (Russian Red is blue-red on me) because they look purple on my lips. I actually do not mind the formula of MAC's mattes. If I wear lip balm as a primer, the matte lipsticks do not make my lips peel and I am not allergic to the inoffensive vanilla fragrance -- unlike Estee Lauder's heavily scented lipsticks, which make my lips peel... although I prefer their colour selection. I think MAC's lustre lipsticks may have been reformulated because fifteen years ago I thought they lasted really well on my lips. Now I don't think they last thirty minutes after application.

It's interesting, because I'm not giving MAC lipsticks a rating of 5, but they're my favourite brand of lipstick and I very rarely use anything else. Why? It's simple - first and foremost, the amazing scent. Second, the great selection of shades and formulas. Third, B2M! As for the formulas - some of them are amazingly moisturizing and wear very very comfortably. The Glazes are like yummy tinted lipbalms. Lusters are hit and miss - one of my top favourites is Lustering, which is a Luster and is so creamy and comfortable. On the other hand, one of my least favourites is Marquise D', which is also a Luster, but is thin and just sits on top instead of soaking in and moisturizing. As for the Cremesheens - they're well loved by MUA in general, but they really don't work for me. They're comfortable, but they settle into lines like crazy, which makes them really hard to work with and they don't look flattering. Overall, I love these lipsticks because of the amazing scent - it doesn't seem like scent should be a deciding factor, but I really do love it that much!

I never used to like MAC lipsticks...in fact I used to hate lipsticks fullstop because I have dry lips and I tended to associate lipsticks with making my lips extra dry and that AWFUL look where they bleed, or stay nice and fresh around the edges but fade from the centre outwards...giving that lovely 'natural lip dark edges' look. Not nice.
My MAC lipstick obsession only started recently when I got Innocence Beware from the Venomous Villains collection...and I am in love! I now have over 20 lipsticks from MAC and I can say that they are FANTASTIC. What I love about them is that they have a finish and a shade to suit everybody...and I mean everybody. My personal favourite are Lustres followed by the Cremesheen, then Amplified Creme. I'm not crazy about Frosts (don't like the finish) and have yet to venture into Mattes (my dry lips have kept me from venturing into that territory...). IMHO they fade quite naturally also which is great.
So the best advice I can give is to try try try before you buy! If it is a Cremesheen formula, chances are the colour in the tube is what will end up on your lips. Lustre formulas are a bit more sheer and will be a bit more 'forgiving' if you are scared of really bright colours or want to control the amount of colour you have. With that in mind, Lustres will wear off a lot faster than the cream formulas. But I'd recommend anyone just getting into it to give the Lustres a go first (especially if you are easing into lipsticks from gloss).
I have tried Dior and Chanel lipsticks in the past and I have to say my MAC experience has been cheaper and better. Packaging on MAC is standard and quite chic (at least I think so!), and the LE ones are usually quite cute (although I wouldn't dream of pulling out my Hello Kitty Cutester at work).
There are also lots of websites that have swatches of the lipsticks and reviews are everywhere so even if you can't try the colour in person you should be able to get a good idea of the end result. Blogs also give a great breakdown of the different finishes and the sort of coverage you can get for each formula, which was great when I was just starting my obsession!
Another tip: I'm not huge on MAC lipglosses just because I find them quite sticky and gloopy (just personal preference). I find that my MAC lipsticks go really well with Revlon Super Lustrous lipgloss! In particular shades like Glow Rosy, Nude Lustre and Life's a Peach go fantastically well with a bunch of different MAC shades (and aren't too sparkly either so are very work-appropriate- always a plus for me!). Plus adding a gloss can change up the colour of the lipstick, help with lasting power and reduce any drying effects (a problem I know many people have with MAC). Hope that helps!

I know there are alot of MAC Haters. But everytime I venture away from MAC in regards to color (lipsticks, glosses, eyeshadows), I ALWAYS REGRET IT AND COME BACK TO MAC! Seriously! I buy all these lippies looking for the perfect (fill in the blank). And then I stroll up to the MAC counter and the rep pulls out a little bit of heaven that fits my needs perfectly. Other lipsticks are just paint. Like their eyeshadows, MAC lipsticks transform my whole face. The color is never one dimensional. And it is that multi-dimensional aspect that always makes me come back for more. Their colors aren't just colors..paint. They add flare...oomph...even to the basics. Haters or not, MAC is the BEST choice for color complexity and awesomeness.

Love, Love, Love MAC lipsticks! They are packaged nicely, smell wonderful and come in so many different shades. I think they wear very well - don't slide off in minutes like YSL. My favorite shades at the moment are Syrup, Twig, Viva Glam V.

Good selection of colors, but if I didn't know better, I would think I got it from a drugstore. The formula is not good at all -and like others have said, Revlon has better formulas than MAC. Too bad, because I really like MAC colors.

All MAC's lipstick formulas and tinted lip conditioners irritate my lips and make them peel. My best friend has the same problem. Sad because there are some HG colors, but after a few hours of wear my skin starts to feel tight and sting, almost like sunburn. I've tried to suffer through, but after half a day my lips start to peel and the lipstick looks blotchy and clings to the flakes - less than cute. I've never had this problem with other brands so it's rather disappointing.
