I'm sorry to have to write a negative review for this as i really wanted to like it but i can honestly say i have nothing good to say about it. I find it really strips my skin of moisture without removing eye makeup and stings my eyes. There are so many new formulas of foaming cleansers out there that do a fantastic job of removing makeup while leaving your skin soft that i think this formula has been left to dust, Kiehl's ultra facial cleanser and Jurlique replenishing foaming cleanser are my current faves, i should have just stuck with these two but it was on special so i thought i'd give it a try. For the record i use mary kay washable waterproof mascara, most other cleansers wash it away easily, it comes off in little flakes, this makes the mascara smear and stick under my eyes as if i was washing my face with ordinary bath soap, it's truly awful!

I spend my money very carefully and this is a relatively expensive product for me. However, I love it and have been buying it for literally decades. I like it because it feels good, smells good, and leaves my skin feeling smooth. It removes sunscreen and makeup well. This, along with Shiseido's lip sunscreen, are two of my skin care staples. I use Alpha Hydrox (cheap but effective) and Obagi's trentinoin cream (from Amazon when available) and my 51 year old skin looks fantastic.

It's a very strong cleanser, removes at least non-waterproof makeup and dirt. Some people say that it's very drying but as long as you don't squeeze too much it's fine. I also really love foams so

Shiseido is a quality line, but this cleanser is very drying and seems to leave a film on the skin. One must use a very tiny amount (1/4 of a dime size) and rinse well using a wash cloth. My comment is based on a week's sample. Will not purchase.

Good stuff, strong stuff. I always squeeze out far more than I end up needing -- a little really does go a long way with this product. Does it take off all of your make-up? Absolutely, but it can sometimes prove rather drying. I find it more suited to my skin in the warmer months, but it's always a sure-fire thing to reach for when I need my face thoroughly cleansed in a flash.

There was nothing wrong with this cleanser in my opinion, it did everything just fine. No drying or flaking, or really anything. But it seemed pretty average for its price. I've used other Shiseido products that I liked better. So I won't be purchasing this one again.

This is my all time favorite cleanser period. I have used this off and on for 20 years or more so I know it's even older than that (maybe even add another 10-15 years to that.) This is far from a new, high tech formula. The smallest amount goes a long way so a tube of this will last longer than any cleanser you have ever used. It's enpensive though I just happened upon it at TJ Max for $19.99. I grabbed two. It's been quite long since I used it last and I just got finished using it. That's why I'm reviewing it now. There are little beads of hyaluronate acid (an ingredient which holds hundreds of times its weight in water) which act as a lightweight exfoliator and hydrator at the same time. It will cut through piles of makeup, dirt, oil and sweat in seconds and rinses clean in a snap (a quality I've always loved in that 3 splases of water has you clean as a whistle.) A bit of Shiseido history. Did you know Shiseido invented Hyaluronic Acid (Sodium Hyaluronate?) Every company who wanted this in their product (s) had to pay Sheseido a fee for using it. Even though other companies manufacture it (I think) there are still royalties which go to Shiseido. There has been a newer form of it with a smaller molecular weight (therby it penetrating deeper into the skin and just being more efficient) though Shiseido has invented this newer form. It was first used in eye surgery as it keeps them moist while they are being operated on (probably medical grade as opposed to what's in cosmetics, though don't quote me.) This is why I love Sheseido in general: They're very innovative. I remember the first time I used a product of Shiseido's w/this ingredient. It came in a box and had two seperate eyedropper type bottles, one for day the other night. Purchased in the mid '80's (anyone remember it?) Treat yourself once to this cleanser (I know you're thinking what a boring skincare item to concern yourself with. After all, it just gets washed down the drain.) This is such a great cleanser when you feel what your skin will feel like after it, a single cleanser (this one) will change your mind as to the question: Who cares which cleanser I use as part of my skincare regine? What's important is everything after this first step of skincare/makeup. This cleanser will change your mind. My skin just went aaahhhh, after I wased with it!!! A Treat!!!

I've been trying out Shiseido products lately and I have to say that I get instant results on both skin care and makeup I got. I tried this cleanser and my skin felt SO clean and exfoliated. I have oily skin and I want a cleanser that will really strip off the oils deep down. It's a great cleanser to prep the skin prior to using moisturizer. This cleanser nails it! Smaller than a pea size is enough to create the foamy texture. A full size will last a long time for me. Shiseido is not cheap but worth the money. I won't mind spending on once-in-a-while-splurge with fast results, than spending little by little on products that don't deliver.

This cleanser is absolutely great for oily skin, it doesnot dry out the skin but rather mattifys your skin while cleansing.

I recieved a few samples of this cleanser, I think I would have been angry if I bought it. I don't hate it, but I don't think it's worth it's price tag. Because I had a few samples, I actually got a good perspective about this cleanser.

I have fairly dry skin, and it doesn't dry me out like other dry skinned reviewsers experience, but neither does it cleanse very well. It has a nice consistency, smells nice enough. But my beef is that it doesn't cleanse! I recently realized that the reason I've been getting the occasional pimple is because my skin isn't getting cleaned! So, I won't be buying this product. It doesn't work for me.

Nothing special about this cleanser but the high price. I am the first to invest in skincare, but I do expect the higher end/higher priced products to deliver more than their less expensive counterparts. I have no complaints about this cleanser. It's easy to use, has luxurious foam, subtle scent, cleans well without drying...but so do most cleansers that cost less than half as much. Really good, standard, average cleanser for an over inflated price.

this is a great cleanser, because I like the foaming quality and a little goes a long way. It is, however, a LITTLE drying. A good basic cleanser if you aren't trying to remove a lot of makeup.

I love this cleanser! I like how a little of it can foam up so much. It is really gentle and goes on really smoothly on my skin. I really enjoy the scent because it is quite light and easily accepted. I use this with my Clarisonic Mia and I love the combo! My skin doesn't feel tight or dry, it just feels clean and fresh.

I can see this product working for people who do NOT have dry skin. I got a few samples of this as i asked the SA for a cleanser for very dry skin. I was surprised that she gave me a foam as my first instinct is that foams are the worst for dry skin (together with gelcleansers). She told me it was developed for dry skin though so I tried it anyway. It did a good job cleansing but it left my skin very tight and dry-feeling.

I think if you have normal or slightly oily skin this might be a good cleanser for you because it does work well, it's just too drying for me. I don't understand how they rec this for very dry skin... will not buy again.

I guess I'm in the majority here, but YUCK! This cleanser is horrible! For reference, I am in my 20s and have combination skin that is breakout prone. My skin can get dry in winter, but is oily around the t-zone. whenever I wash my skin with this wash, my skin HURTS because it gets soooo tight and dry!!! It also makes my skin itchy, I think because it strips all the moisture out of my skin. horrible, horrible overpriced cleanser!!!!!

LOVE this stuff! I just endured about six months wasting money on all sorts of cleansers which ended up requiring either two washes to remove make up or stripping my skin of every bit of moisture. With this, you use a TEENY amount and it foams like crazy and removes all traces of grime and make up without drying. I'm done with trying others--I'm sticking with this.

Gently exfoliates, doesn't leave your skin dry like other cleansers, love the tiny beads, smell and texture! Removes all of my make up residue.

It was very drying and gave my skin these strange pink lumps... same with the Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam. The pink lumps go away eventually, or form into a zit. They're painful, and I never had this kind of reaction with a product before.. hence the "strange". lol.
FYI, I have normal/dry skin. I hate that this cleanser causes fine lines on my cheeks.
The product: Light yellow, strong perfume (that smells nice IMO), and foams up easily into a rich lather.
**Ingredients (main ingredients similar to Pureness Deep Cleansing Foam... I would think that if you love this, you can get the cheaper alternative in Pureness. I think Benefiance smells better, though): water, stearic acid, peg-8, myristic acid, glycerin, potassium hydroxide, dipropylene glycol, lauric acid, glyceryl stearate se, sorbitol, cocamidopropyl betaine, polyethylene, sodium methyl cocoyl taurate, phytosteryl macadamiate, phytosteryl/octyldodecyl lauroyl gluatamate, sodium hyaluronate, peg-60 glyceryl isosstearate, talc, trisodium edta, ethylcellulose, tocopherol, sodium benzoate, parfum, ci 77492, cl 77491

I have dry skin and like a foaming cleanser the best. Unfortunately, foaming usually means drying. This is one of the very few foaming cleansers that doesnt dry me out and I have been using this one and off for 20 yrs. I would use this all the time but sometimes I am poor and cant afford the $34 price tag. Like all Shiseido foaming cleansers, you just need the tiniest amount since this foams up a TON. Because of that, each tube does last a LONG time.

IMO, the whole Benefiance line is fab if you have dry skin and do not mind the very STRONG scent of their products. Especially their best-selling Benefiance Eye Cream.
