I got a free sample of this at a salon I go to that carries the Dermalogica line. It smelled perfumey (lavender? essential oil? not sure) and was light and lotion-y (not a thick cream at all.

The small sample barely coated one lower leg.

Not enough to make a true judgement but the high price means I won;t be buying any.

This product does not suit my skin type at all. It is a shame because I had high hopes on it. It“s Dermalogica!

I know that I just got it and usually you need to give it time so that your skin can get used to this new product. However, I can see/feel immediately that this won“t work for me because this is not moisturising enough for my skin. And my skin is really dry right now because of Roaccutane, that I take for acne. I will have to give this creme to someone who is not quite as dry as I am.

Also, the scent is really strong. It smells like ginger. Not pleasant though.

Because of the fact that the product does not do what it claims to do and the scent is really strong. Other things such as packaging is not important.

It's fairly likely I'd buy this product again, but I would not say it satisfied me as a complete package.

Pros: It smells great. I am someone who prefers unscented lotions for overall body use and to only use scented products on very small patches of skin. Strong scents often give me headaches. This is a very "natural" smelling product, very true to Dermalogica's aesthetic. It is obviously a mix of essential oils, yet something about it in a weird way reminds me of those candy dots, but don't let that scare you away because it is probably just a weird case of nose deja vu. The bottle is nice - convenient pump, and a tall/narrow design makes it take up little space on your countertop.

Cons: The lotion is too thin! For the price of this - and Dermalogica seriously robs its customers, IMO, coming from someone who does like their products themselves quite a bit - a lotion this thin is just unreasonable to me. I have to use twice the quantity I do of some other far cheaper products because it just doesn't go far enough. You should not go through a bottle of lotion this price as quickly as I did! I also like exfoliating lotions because I have dry skin that gets itchy and dull; I also still break out somewhat often on my shoulders and back, and find that a good exfoliating lotion tends to help. Not so with this...didn't notice a change at all where I break out. I say this in comparison to products like Alba max dry skin formula - love it, had great results, and a fraction of the cost. Not to mention I probably use half the amount of product. I also found this lotion average in its moisturizing capabilities, at best; honestly, no more moisturizing than a drugstore lotion. That's just unacceptable at this price bracket, especially when it's advertised for dry skin. Maybe it'd be good enough for someone that does not have dry, uncomfortable skin, but for those of us that do, meh. It feels so thin going on and does not leave a smooth, luxurious or comfortable feeling at all.

In short, I'd probably buy it again for the smell. It's soothing. But the rest is disappointing. I'm just a sucker for the brand.

I'm now on my second full size bottle of this lotion, but thats not to say I'm 100% satisfied with it. Still, I'll probably keep purchasing it until I find a better body lotion. They call it a cream, but it's a light lotion that leaves your skin soft and smooth. It's not sticky at all; on the contrary, it leaves a powdery feel on the skin. I could do without whatever ingredient they put in it to make it "powdery" though, it makes it peel off the skin if you try to apply a second layer of it, or even rub your skin too hard while applying the first layer.

I like the initial smell of this lotion, it's very citrusy and fresh, like lemon drop candies. This smell fades pretty quickly though, and you're left with a spicy, herbalish smell that is reminiscent of mens cologne or something - definitely not a sweet or girly smell. I assume the scent is meant to be "unisex", but the base notes seem more masculine than feminine. It's not too bothersome if I only use a small amount and let it sink in completely before getting dressed so the lotion doesn't transfer to my clothing. At least it absorbs quickly, so you won't have to wait too long before getting dressed.

Some reviewers complain that this lotion itches, which is probably due to the exfoliating acids which are known to cause itching, pricking or light burning until your skin gets accustomed to them. Unless you're having an allergic reaction to something in the lotion, it just means it's doing its job in shredding your skin of dead cells, and the itchy feeling will fade as your skin gets used to it. I bought this because I needed a lotion with exfoloating acids, that doesn't contain mineral oil or anything else that clogs pores. Every other body lotion I've tried has either left me with acne like bumps and ingrown hairs due to heavy, pore clogging ingredients, or hasn't moisturized my skin at all. This lotion is great for clearing up ingrown hairs and those nasty bumps I get on my upper arms, and it doesn't give me acne if I apply it to my chest or back like most body lotions do. It also seems to even the tone and texture of my skin. On the downside, it isn't always moisturizing enough when my skin is on drier side, but it can also be used as an exfoliating body serum; apply a thin layer, then wait 10 minutes or so before applying a more moisturizing cream on top of it to allow the exfoliating acids to take effect before diluting them with another cream.

SUMMARY:
+ Contains exfoliating acids
+ Great for keratosis pilaris, ingrown hairs, body acne and uneven skin texture
+ Non-sticky, sinks right in
+ Light enough to be used as a body serum
+ A little goes a long way

- Smells kinda like a guys product
- Not moisturizing enough on its own if you have very dry skin
- Peels off skin if too much is applied
- A little bit on the expensive side side

Despite the name this is a very light lotion. It has a pleasant fresh citrusy/cologne-like scent. It's a delight to use because it leaves you feeling SO fresh and not the least oily or sticky. I'm not mad about the moisturising power though, Dermalogica Body Hydrating Cream certainly won't compare to my HG Biotherm Anti-Drying Body Milk. The packaging quality points go to the 500 ml bottle with a pump. EDIT 12/01/22: Ok I've grown to LOVE this body lotion. If I buy a richer body cream I just end throwing it away because I hate a sticky feel on my skin. When I need a heavier cream I mix this lotion with Dermalogica Stress Relief Treatment Oil - and voilą!

I wish I would have tried a sample of this at the store before I bought it. It smells.....nasty. It has a spicy ick scent. There is something in it that reminds me of Chanel Egoiste. I wish I knew what the note was so that I can avoid it, it is well... sour, stinging, repugnant. That said, lets talk about the hydrating qualities as it is indeed a lotion. I do not feel that cream is an adequate name to this product. It is thin and milky runny in consistency. It made my skin sticky and altogether not so hydrated. In the morning after applying it my legs felt flaky after shaving and I do not even have dry skin. Even if it did wear well I would still throw it out because the smell is so repulsive. It's strong enough not to compliment any fragrance, except well, maybe old spice or egoiste. I swear for those of you that have seen Anchor Man that this is what Sex Panther smells like.

This stuff is the devil. It's hands-down the best lotion I've ever used, and I have sensitive skin that tends to be on the drier side. It smells amazing--light and clean. It's very moisturizing. No petroleum derivitives. No artificial fragrance or color.

Why is it the devil? It's like $40 for 16 oz. I only buy it if I have a gift card.

I have bumps on my upper arms (Keratosis Pelaris) as well as some occasional eczema and have tried everything to get rid of them including La Prairie body cream. nothing really worked as well as this. I've been using this twice a day for only a week so far and already the bumps are gone - my skin has never been better!

I love the weight and texture of this lotion - it's not too heavy, it's not greasy. Even in a tropical country that is absolutely humid I feel nice and fresh. It's a bit more expensive than the usual body lotion but definitely worth it! I am so far impressed with almost all Dermalogica products I've tried and that's saying a lot.

I love this lotion!! I haven't actually bought it because I worked at a salon where I would get samples of it. It really hydrates and is not heavily perfumed. It's more expensive than a drugstore lotion and doesn't do anything special so that's my reason for not buying it. I do like it though. It would be a perfect pamper gift for someone.

Since I now own a hair salon (yay me!), I get this stuff for wholesale. I have paid full price for it though. It smells so yummy and leaves your skin smooth and soft and silky. Have I mentioned the smell? It's herbal and slightly fruity (like a lot of Dermalogica produtcs), but since I don't use this on my face it's OK. Leaves my legs feeling amazing after I shave. Good stuff.

The finish of this lotion is superb. It will leave your skin feeling like silk. It contains only one silicone...Cyclopentasiloxane, which adds to the silky finish, but I think the magic ingredient is the Potato Starch. It makes the skin ubber soft and touchable, and the finish lasts and lasts.
It's also full of numerable botanical extracts which add to the delicious scent and condition of the skin.

Another amazing effect of this lotion, is that it's an exfoliator. It's got glycolic acid (from sugar) and apple (malic) acid, plus a little lactic acid. This keeps uncovering new and healthy skin, and exfoliating the dry cells.

The lotion is only moderately moisturizing, but it's enough for normal skin. I think it would work over a heavier cream to double up on moisture, but I haven't needed to do that even though it's winter. I use it right out of the shower while my skin is still moist, and it works fine at keeping my skin hydrated.

I've only got the 2.5 oz tube of this, and am scouring the net trying to find a cheap full-size version. It's hard because this is super expensive...wish I was independently wealthy! I can see myself going through it relatively fast too because I love it so much and don't want to have to be frugal with it.

Treat yourself and try this...it's wonderful!

This is a great, great product! It moisturizes with plant oils as it exfoliates, my skin feels like silk now! Although it's quite expensive (just under $90 in Norway) a little goes a long way. A few pumps of the cream is enough for my entire body. I've yet to try the combination of this product and Dermalogica's Stress Relief Treatment Oil.

I got this to try out yesterday, as I'm an avid fan of dermalogica products for my face.

Previously I'd tried body shop body butter, which seemed to sit on top of my skin and feel greasy all day. I liked the scent but not that greasy feeling so it wasn't for me...

This stuff is INCREDIBLE!!! I hardly used any and happened to touch my leg later in the day. I couldn't get over how silky smooth and soft the skin felt. Gorgeous!!

I also really like the scent - on me it has a lovely calming scent. I smell lovely and clean / fresh.

I will definitely repurchase this and HIGHLY recommend it.

This body lotion is wonderful for the summer, but not hydrating enough for the winter months. It has a very light consistency that sinks right into my skin. It has a wonderful fresh scent that helps me to jump start my day. I love this product!!!

This cream has a very dry finish and made my skin itchy. It doesn't do much in terms of hydrating and smells like men's products.

The only time I think this product may be of use is if you are planning to play sports in summer.

Based on reviews here and its list of essential oils, etc. I bought the large bottle. Huge, expensive mistake. First, this is not a cream- it is a runny lotion. I do not have particularly dry skin but I find that within hours after applying this- and lots of it- my legs look and feel dry. Geez, I can almost feel my legs getting itchy just thinking about this stuff. Definitely a no-no with colder weather coming on. EESH!

this is one enormous tub of lotion. you get approx. 16 oz for $45 USD. and that's a lot of lotion. i have very thin skin so i wasn't in the market for the thick creamy types as they tend to just "sit" on top of my skin instead of sinking in.

i so don't have a problem w/ this lotion. it was recommended to me by a lovely SA at my local beauty mart. i told her that i need a nice everyday lotion - preferrably non-scented. granted this has a very faint fruity smell but it fades minutes after application.

and the ingredients leave your skin feeling every oh so soft. i originally bought this to combat this nasty cold spell that's wrecking havoc on my skin. but i might just end up using this all year round! p.s. i don't have overly dry skin. and it doesn't interfere w/ my perfume.

I love love love this body cream. Texture is very important to me and this cream has a medium texture, not to rich and easy to apply. It assorbed very quickly as well. It has a very pleasant smell of citrus/lavender and mixture of essential oils. Very hydrating and soothing. I use it alternately with clarins' Energizing Hydra-Wear Express Body Lotion, which is also great. It's a bit costly but comes in 473ml that lasts forever! Highly recommended! :)
