I bought spice with the recommendation from a SA when I bought Mac Angel (which I ended up returning), as well as for my Creme d' Nude. I also wanted it for when I just want to wear a nude/pink gloss on days I want a more natural look. On my pigmented lips, this color came own pretty browny and not that pinkish/nude... I can't imagine it matching Angel with any skin tone but maybe I'm wrong. I didn't think twice about it at the store since I figured she'd know better than me but the next day when I lined my lips, I am NC20, yellow undertones, very pigmented rosy lips, this just came out brown on me. I ended up returning it for Dervish which was recommended to me by another SA who said it would be better suited for my deep pink pigmented lips and she was right. It pretty much matches my lips exactly.

Spice is a beautiful color, don't get me wrong, just wasn't for my lips or the look I was going for. I might buy it again for a fall/winter look if I buy a lipstick that would require that color liner on me.

Ok, so, I get why this is a popular, versatile color on a lot of ppl. What I don't get are all the ppl claiming it's too "orangey," b/c for me, this has too much blue in it. It is a cool leaning neutral. I have very fair, warm toned skin, w/red hair, & this color makes my very pigmented lips look like someone coated them with dirt or ashes. Not necessarily a bad color, but definitely not for me. Subculture is almost my exact natural lip color, maybe a tad lighter, & it's my version of nude.

This is my go to lipliner.
I absolutely love this. I saw this on youtube (pixiwoo), they used this to get a 90's vanessa paradis lip. I love these kind of lips, so I bought it. I pair it with velvet teddy, siss or taupe. Very very nice!

I've had this liner for years and its my favorite! Goes on smoothly and perfectly. Color is so pretty and I think anyone could wear this natural/neutral looking shade. I pair it with Jubilee lipstick for a perfect duo but also use this as a liner and go back over lips with some nude pink lip glosses and its beautiful that way too! So very versatile product and don't be afraid to try with shades outside of the darker brown color family. I've had this for a few years, I don't line my lips everyday so I've still got most of a stick left.

I'm surprised at all the low reviews. This was my first Mac lipliner recommended by the MA. It's nice as an all over lip colour as well as a line for lipsticks that are on the warmer side (eg Mac Mocha, or coral lippies). The colour looks like an orangish brown on me. I don't wear it often but when I do feel in the mood for a more bronzey look this liner is perfect.

Been using this liner for years and love it. Perfect shade for medium pigmented lips. A versatile shade too: can be used with a little light gloss to create a more natural look or with more dramatic colours to keep pigment in place effectively. Highly recommended.

Spice is a pinky cinnamon shade. It lasts all day and doesn't budge or smear. I like it paired with nude lipstick the best.

This is and has always been my favorite lip pencil. I have been using this since I was about 15 and I have not found a better liner that goes with my skin tone. I like to wear this a clear gloss or with my NARS barbarella lipstick or pretty much any neutral/peach toned lipstick. I will definitely repurchase.

i'm nw 43 in mac. i bought this hoping it would be a lighter version of chesnut for my lighter lipsticks. as others have mentioned it has orange undertones. my lips didn't look that great with it. it sort of stood out. i need to try it with some other lipsticks but so far i'm feeling like this one is a dud. the shade is just wrong for me and even the pic here makes it look more brown than it is on me. it may be okay if i use it in addition to my chesnut. i never thought of wearing 2 liners until the mac girl showed me this but that may help me salvage this color. the one good thing about it is it's soft. no tugging. it seems softer that my other mac lipliners even. i bought this online when i was buying my online only bloggers collection lipglass. if i'd tried it on in the store i wouldn't have bought it. i'll keep it in my stash since i do makeup for other people too. i'm sure i'll use it up but i wouldn't repurchase it for me based on how it's been for me so far.
*** update *** when combined with chestnut it's a good liner under a gloss for a neutral lip on my skin tone. it softens the darkness of chesnut and adds a pop of color. i think i'd buy this again now. it sort of reminds me of a shade of lipstick called freckle. for those that didn't like it i would recommend using it just inside a liner you do like and see how that works for you.

Beautiful on display and looks nude enough to go with any lipstick or gloss...WRONG! I am NC45 and this l/l is so off to me. I am sure its about the colors I/s l/g that I own...I am a peach, light pink, nude colors kind of girl and this l/l is just to pinkish brown to compliment those colors. In my opinion, anything worn with spice would have to be darker than the l/l. So I will see how it works in the Fall/Winter when I go darker.

I don't understand why this l/l is a staple. The colour is way too dark and brown to be even close to nude. Nudes for me are like the Naked Liner. I could see Spice working with darker skin tones, but for an NC-20 girl, this is definitely not my colour.

Found out recently that a lipliner is a must even for pigmented lips...so went to MAC nearby and was recommended Spice lip liner for my NC43-44 skin...the pencil goes on so smooth and is very easy to use (even for a beginner). The reason it doesn't get 5 lippies is cuz i expected a darker colour but this works fine for slightly darker lipsticks...

UPDATE: WOULD NOT CONSIDER DUE TO ANIMAL TESTING FOR CHINESE MARKET 17/02/2012 For medium to dark lips this liner is great with almost every lipstick except pinkish hues. I beleive it's a bestseller for MAC and no wonder, it's a great neutral. I've bene using it for years and even a couple of times as a total lip color when I had forgoten my lipstick.

This has been my go to lip liner for at least five years now. As several reviewers have stated, this liner matches most colors. I am N5 with M.A.C. and this lip liner has always delivered for me. I use it with Viva Glam II lipstick and it looks very pretty.

I was looking for a pink-ish brown nude liner...this is not it. I have tried this liner under almost every lipstick I own, and I can't find one that it works well under. It is too pink-ish orange.

This was my very first lipliner purchased from MAC. I had gone in to find a nice lipliner that would look natural. This was perfect. I'm sure I can find other lipliners like it in other brands, but this has been my daily liner since 2006. It looks great for medium to darker lips, but would probably be too harsh for people with naturally lighter lip colors.

GROAN........bought this and off I went, having made up in the evening in dimmish light....at the restaurant, I realised that I had a harsh brown line all around my lips and hurriedly rubbed it off....avoid at all costs unless you have naturally darker hued skin. I am blond/fair and this is harsh and not at all natural. An expensive mistake.

MAC's quality is great, but this color looked awful on my olive skin tone. It was too dark and didn't compliment any of my lipsticks. Good quality, good product, just not for me.

This was my first and only MAC liner, I do agree that lipliner's from the drugstore are just as good so I'd rather save money of course. Spice is a pinky brown and it goes well with most lipstick shades. It lasts and applies smoothly. The only reason I wouldn't repurchase is because of the price. NYX, L'Oreal, and Maybelline all make lipliner's of equal quality IMO.
