I like the Extra Body version of the Sculpting Foam more than the regular. While the regular is HG for many curlies, I think it works better for those with thick, coarse, tight curls that need a bit more weight. I, on the other hand, have uber fine waves that with love can be encouraged to curls, but a good wind comes, and I am back down to waves. Thus, between the two, Extra Body is my favorite. It still doesn't give as much lift in the crown as other mousse products I have tried (Biolage Whipped, Joico Power Whip), but a very affordable, nice mousse. Despite this being "extra body", it still seems like a bit on the softer side in terms of hold.

I have been using this product for about 5 years now and I absolutely love it! It works wonders on my curly hair and keeps it from being frizzy and losing its curly shape throughout the day. I have tried other over-the-counter products, but none of them work quite as well for my hair. I would highly recommend using this product by scrunching it into your damp hair and then finishing off the job by flipping your hair upside down and using a hair-diffuser to gently dry and set the curls in place. Be careful about the amount that is used; be mindful that you want enough, but not too much because it could leave your hair feeling greasy or hard and crunchy. Definitely finish it off with a light hairspray too if you are prone to frizziness!

This was a nice mousse. Better than many but you could purchase better/more expensive. This product was not good as a leave-in bodifier for when I air-dry my hair, as it leaves it all frizzy. However, if I'm straightening after my hair dries, this product holds it in place decently. Personally, styling cremes tend to work better on my chin-length processed hair so I stick with Kendra styling creme.

I've been using this for a while, and right now I'm just trying to finish the bottle. To me, it wasn't anything special. I feel like it weighed my hair down quite a bit, and didn't really hold it any better than drug store products. I expected more from a more expensive salon brand. I don't think I would repurchase.

Personally, this product didn't really work wonders on my thin asian hair. Maybe it's because volumizing isn't really needed for me. I can never really tell whether my hair is limp or volumized as I have thin and so little hair. This product did not really do much for me as much as I have noticed so I really cannot judge on this product's effectiveness. But when I applied it to my damp hair upside down, I felt the tackiness and that my hair felt "thicker". But other than that, I didn't really see the change after I blow-dried my hair. I think my desire for mousse was to keep my curling-ironed curls to keep in place. Instead, I felt it made my hair heavier than what it is. This was a partial disappointment to me...I probably could have gone with something cheaper or even a better salon brand. Was still nice to work it out but I think I'm not very keen on any PM products anymore.

I am a big fan of Paul Mitchell, I like this product alot and think that it lives up to its name, it definitely give me volume, and I have thick hair. I do find if I use too much, it make my hair feel kinds gross and hay-like, so I just have to watch how much I am using and I am fine. And it smells great too which is always a plus!!

I have used this stuff forever...or at least since my skin began to reacting to the overly-fragranced Aveda products I used on my baby-fine, curly hair. This is not as fabulous for curly girls as the regular PM sculpting foam, but the regular foam is too heavy for my fine hair. This stuff holds well and never weighs my fine hair down. Any crunchiness left over after my hair dries can easily be scrunced out. I know PM doesn't advertise this for curly hair but it works on my fine, curly locks. Another bonus: the fragrance is light and lemony and doesn't linger.

I like this item, but I like the regular sculpting foam better. I can not use much of this my hair will feel gummy and nasty. But I will continue using it until I use it up. Does a great job of holding.

This foam is nothing special. At least not to my hair. My hair is baby-thin and needs a lot of volume and hold to look ok through out the day...but this foam does not give nothing of that! It is not better than my ordinary Wella High Hair mousse....
My hair does just not get that "big" feeling as some products can give...
Won't buy again.

I had been away from Paul Mitchell a long time. When they discontinued the Samy thickening mousse I used I couldn't find one that compared. The new one they put out couldn't compare. I read about the Paul Mitchell extra control on here I wouldn't have tried it. My local Walmart has a hair salon that sells it. I started out with the small one. I loved it!!
I have since gone back and got the large one. I have fine wavy/loose curly hair. I appy when wet, curl dry half wave and they finger curl when dry. PERFECT! I am now going to try the serum for some shine. Thank you MUA!

A girl I work with has similarly curly/wavy hair to mine and she recommend I try this since my regular Aussie mousse wasn't giving me the hold and volume I wanted. She uses this with a couple other PM products, but I just tried this. Unfortunately, it left my hair feeling coated and slightly sticky, and after a few uses, my hair looked and felt dry~not smooth or conditioned like when I used the regular PM sculpting foam (which I now use and love). I actually felt embarrassed that my hair looked so bad and ended up having to put it up in a clip! I'm perplexed as to how her hair looks so good with this, but that's why there are so many products out there~not everything works for everyone. Quite pricey, but there's a discount hair supply store nearby where it's at least a few bucks cheaper than CVS or salons.

love this mousse!!! don't usually buy $$$ mousse but the hairstylist recommended it. thank god cuz i would have never bought paul mitchell! i usually by drugstore brands or anything that's on sale at ulta etc. for bogo. sadly, i think 90's when i think paul mitchell. this mousse made me fall in love with PM again. if you have asian, fine hair, you will love how this mousse doesn't weigh hair down, gives hair volume, doesn't flake, & sufficient hold. most products are sticky where u can feel the stuff on your hands when applying but this u can barely tell it's on your hands. the can is really big and will last a lifetime especially since you don't need much. i also love that PM is against animal cruelty etc. would definitely buy again if i ever run out!

I've never been a big fan of mousse--I guess I always bought into the idea that gel is the only good thing for curly hair! But this product has converted me. My hair is mostly wavy, with a bit of curl. Gel weighs the curl down, but this mousse is perfect! It gives my curls seperation and hold, and they have perfect volume and bounce, without weighing it down. There are a few small crunchy parts, but that is easily scrunched out. I start with "Shiny Silver Ultra Shine Spray" (from Sally's), which is technically for blonde hair but I reccomend it to anyone who wants shiny hair, then I scrunch in this mousse, and then I airdry. My hair comes out perfect every time
UPDATE: After using this for about a month, I've decided it's damaging my hair. I do not brush, blowdry, or flat iron my hair in any way (I even use a satin pillowcase!), but I've been getting terrible split ends and my hair is very dry and fluffy. The problem went away after I stopped using mousse. Back to the search for the perfect curly hair product :(

Awesome mousse! I haven't used professional styling products for a few years now, telling myself that it doesn't make a difference to use the cheap stuff. Using this mousse once and I'm hooked on Paul Mitchell again! And I only use about half the amount that I would have to use of the cheap stuff. I have a lot of hair, but you can't tell because it is super fine and very slick, also I have to wash it everyday because it gets greasy. This mousse did exactly what it said, it gave great body that no other mousse has ever done for me. I will be sticking with this one!

This is my HG mousse!!!!
It doesn't make my thin, fine, color treated hair sticky, doesn't weigh my hair down and is alcohol free. Also, the smell does not linger, just smells fresh when you first apply it and the smell disappears, which I like. Will continue to buy this as long as Paul Mitchell makes it!

I would repurchase this again unless i find something better. its pretty darn good! bought for $17.00 and it really does make your hair have extra body! i have fine, thin straight asian locks and it gave my roots extra oomph for sure. it changed the texture and made it thicker. the only thing i dont like is that it makes my hair super matte looking so i dont have that glossy look anymore. its ok though because i can pin my hair up into all these cute sexy tousled styles now. :) i applied it after the shower and blow dried it. it's been 2 days and my hair is still poufy (its usually an oily mess by now).
